Origins: Record Maker

The sun shone brightly upon the uneven rocks, yet with the strong winds it was still frigid. Keyboard strokes could be heard over the whistling wind. A boy with black pants and a gray shirt covered by a leather jacket sat halfway in the passenger seat of a blue rally car

'Looks like the time to beat is 5 minutes and roughly 23 seconds. Should be easy with my new booster. I bet this'll get a lot of views too' thought the brown haired boy. He shut his laptop and stood up before fixing his leather jacket and closing his passenger side door. Circling around the front of his blue car, he opened the driver side door and grabbed his black racing helmet. He put it on, his brown eyes visible through the visor, before sitting down, and shutting the door, thankful to be out of the cold. Turning the ignition key, his engine whirred to life.

He pulled forward to line up with the start of the wide dirt path before braking. He reached up to the top of his dashboard and pressed a small button, turning on a small windshield camera. Slowly putting his right hand on his shifter while keeping his left on the steering wheel, he calmed his nerves and began a mental countdown.

'3…'

'2…'

'1…'

'Go!'

He slammed his foot down on the gas pedal and turned right to begin his attempt at the downhill speed record on Mt. Rocky.

'Damn, I won't make it at this rate. That record is tighter than I thought!' The driver thought, as he slid around another corner, looking for a place to save some time. 'The record didn't require that we stay on the road, maybe I can find a shortcut.' There was a break in the pine trees up ahead. 'Perfect!' He thought, as he turned the front of the car to the right while still moving in the previous direction. Once his momentum shifted enough and his car lined up with the gap, he pressed the small red button on his steering wheel.

His engine became louder than ever as his car began to glow light blue. He shot forward through the small clearing, cutting off a large section of the trail as his wheels caught fire, leaving small orange flames along his path. He briefly looked at his speedometer to see that it was a little over 300 mph, before watching out for anything in his way. He saw light at the other end of the forest of trees,

and he emerged unscathed.

He, however, did not see the lack of ground that accompanied the light. He realized he was going to crash and was powerless to do anything. He definitely did not shriek like a little girl, it was totally a manly yell. It also took him a moment to notice the large purple and green portal that he was barreling toward. Before he could even process the odd phenomenon, he, his car, and the portal vanished in a bright flash upon contact.
