12. Chapter 12: Origins 8

Origins: A Cyber's Drive

A soft glow emanated from the large flat screen TV, displaying a large 1st on the screen. He had finally completed every race in Brisk Beach Drive, widely known as BBR, a niche racing game, overshadowed by Drive or Die 4. Putting down his sweaty Maroon controller, he got up from his couch. After playing for 2 hours straight, he needed a break.

Walking into his 'kitchen' and grabbing an energy drink, he cracked it open, the caffeinated blue drink tasting like strawberries. Realizing that he was out of drinks, and low on spare batteries, he realized that he would actually have to leave his apartment this month.

Walking down to the lobby of the complex and going to the parking garage, he walked up to the sleek black car. Sitting down and closing the door, he grabbed a controller from the glove box, pushing the steering wheel down. Turning on the car with the press of a button, a red bar on the front lit up, and rgb lights lit up inside. Pulling the right trigger, he drove out onto the street.

'I wonder if my gaming skills will translate to real driving.' He thought, deciding to go to the edge of the city to test his theory before going shopping. After all, he won some 'Nitrox' in a competition months ago, and it was time that he tried it out.

Finally reaching a large area, he readied his thumbs and squeezed his triggers, his car giving a rumble. Accelerating forward, he spun around quickly, before deciding to see how his prize handled. Inputting a button combo into his controller, his car began to glow light blue. His engine roared, giving him a burst of speed and leaving flames behind him. Reaching 300 mph, something weird happened.

The space ahead of him distorted, warping like plastic in heat before tearing open into a purple and green portal. Intrigued by the strange thing, he decided to go to it.

*Clang*

Before he could reach the portal, he began to spin out of control. Pulling his left trigger to stop, he looked around. Reorienting himself, he saw 6 police vehicles speeding past him.

'What happened?' He thought.
