Episode XXIV (24): Hellfire in Paris!
Natius began to have a dream about seeing Snow White again.
He asked his ancestress, "What are you doing here?"
"Ignatius," she addressed in a kind voice, "the time has come for you to know the elements that are dormant within you: courage, kindness, devotion, and discipline."
Natius noticed four wooden pallets that depict a crimson stylized oriental flower bud, a light brown weight that had the Chinese symbol for discipline, a flame orange stylized dagger with wings for the hilt, and finally a stylized fireball that was a bright red like an ember.
Snow White explained, "The flower represents kindness, The weight is the one of two weights that your father's ancestor used. This one in particular represented discipline at the time it was used, the dagger with the winged hilt symbolizes devotion, and that flaming meteor represents the courage that your paternal ancestress had demonstrated when she saved her nation from a hostile murderer. I have to warn you that murderer will try to kill you."
However you have to travel to a land called Prydain first before you would begin the trials of courage and discipline."
Natius knew who she was referring to and he asked confused, "What?! What does that have to do with these elements?"
"You'll meet a friend once you arrive there," she informed him. "If you can help him discover the element within himself, you'll prove yourself ready."
Natius sighed. "What do I have to do?"
"For now, you must discover for yourself what it means to be kind and to be devoted," she answered.
Natius asked, "Is the new friend, Ken?"
Snow White answered, "No. His name is Brandon Kyle."
Natius protested, "Why him?"
"You may not see him as your friend right now," she was saying, "but that is all part of learning about kindness. If you can learn to see through him, you'll prove yourself deserving of my element. In the end, it's your choice whether or not you want to help him. However, do not dwell on what he did to you. Instead, think about what you can do for him."
Natius asked Snow White, "Is it true that you took up the name Grimhllde? What if Brandon calls me that?"
Snow White was silent for a minute, then she answered, "Yes, but sadly, my stepmother's name died after my generation. You may embrace her name if you wish or you can think of it as just a name. If you allow Brandon to torment you, it may give him the impression that my stepmother's name may mean something to you. But if you agree with his insults-,"
"I'll just be like him and drag the name through the mud," Natius concluded.
Natius laughed, "That'd be one way to punish your stepmother."
"Be the better person, Ignatius," Snow White advised him. "And do not feel hate for those who've passed. Let them go."
Natius asked Snow White, "What can I do to punish Frollo? I hate the thought of him killing my new friends. I don't want him to kill any of my former classmates like Darius or Matthias."
Snow White advised, "You need to understand there are some things you cannot change."
"But, Snow White-,"
"Ignatius, there are some people who can learn from their sins and regrettably, some who can't. The minister may be the kind who can't, but a cruel punishment is not the solution. Besides, a method like that does more harm than good and hardens the heart even more."
Natius thought about what she was saying and thought it made sense. Over time, people lost their hearts because of the cruel punishments they were forced to endure from their sins and that only made things worse.
Natius commented, "I don't know if the minister even has a heart. If he has one, it is consumed by lust and it's made of stone, unfortunately. Some of my friends are terrified of him. I have no idea what to do by this point."
"You'll know when the time is right," she promised him.
Natius asked, "What do you mean?"
"I mean as I say," she stated. "I can't give you the answers all the time. You have to trust in yourself."
Natius stated, "I understand."
Anakin's dream was different as the boy found himself in a chapel different from the cathedral. His attention was directed to a stained-glass window containing the image of a boy surrounded by various bugs. There was a centipede, a grasshopper, an earthworm, a ladybug, a spider, and a glowworm. What really caught Anakin's attention was a symbol above the boy. It was a stylized eye in a beautiful shade of blue.
"This can't be part of Notre Dame," Anakin whispered to himself, seeing as such an image didn't exist in the cathedral.
Anakin heard a familiar voice as it sounded like an older man with an English accent who stated, "This is not Notre Dame."
The voice belonged to an old man with graying auburn hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black coat covering a white shirt, black pants and boots.
The man introduced himself, "I am James Henry Trotter. This is a sanctuary of those who have awakened the element of friendship from the past, present and future."
Anakin looked at the window and the man with complete confusion.
He asked, "Do you know how I ended up uncorrupted like many other unfortunate children that were killed in the past?"
"I was the one who rescued you before you could meet that fate," James answered.
Anakin asked, "Why rescue me? What did you see in me?"
James gave a warm smile. "The element of friendship. That is why you are here."
Anakin asked, "Why did the element pick me?"
"When you met the Beast, you did not fear him," James was saying. "Instead, you saw his pain and loneliness and reached out to him and could tell he really needed a friend. Anakin, friendship is not always about spending time with people you like. The true miracle in it is being a friend to someone who needs a friend and being there for those you care about."
Anakin began to think for a minute about what the Holy Mother, St. Mary had told him about his physical body being in good hands.
He asked, "What did the Lady of Cardigan mean when she told me my physical body is in good hands?"
James answered, "Your father placed you in a hospital that had dealt with cases like yours."
Anakin thought back to when he and the Beast first met. It was true that the boy did not fear him and instead saw someone with a troubled soul.
He then remembered what Princess Aurora said to him regarding when he was attacked. "Princess Aurora told me a kitten deceived me. Is that true?"
James answered, "Yes."
James added, "Your soul had a strong will. Like a lion. That's a huge contribution that prevented your corruption. You were very fortunate as not many would live through a harrowing experience."
Anakin asked, "How did you find me? How did you know about me?"
James answered, "A good friend of mine has informed of an unusual case of a soul and mind lost in the shadows."
Anakin inquired, "Did that kitten do this to me?"
James answered, "That kitten stole the gloves from the Dark Masters. These gloves were created by Turbo, but Maleficent and Grimhilde forbade Turbo from using them because the concept of removing the soul and mind of a human was unheard of at that point."
Anakin had one last question. "Do you know how my mind and soul can reunite with my body?"
James answered, "Not only must you keep the memories of those you cherished alive, but you also must stay alive while travelling through the worlds. I must warn you that the pain that you feel will not only reflect on your mortal shell, but it will also amplify the longer you are imprisoned in the Disney Kingdom."
Anakin looked at him in confusion.
"I'm sure you've already realized that you can feel pain in these worlds," James assumed. "That means your body can take damage in the process as well."
This left Anakin with one fearful question. "Do you mean that if I were to die here-,"
"Your body would never recover," James finished.
Anakin was at a loss of words as he fell to his knees recalling the time that he almost killed by bandits.
"I have one last piece of advice that may be helpful to you," James offered. "When in doubt, try looking at things another way."
Anakin stated, "Thanks."
Anakin noticed James was fading away and he heard a bell booming its powerful chime and he tried to ask why James was fading, but the man had faded away.
Anakin began to wonder if he was speaking to a ghost of a man who had passed away.
Anakin began to question himself, "Is that boy hospitalized in Wales the real me?"
"Hey," Nausicaä said, gently nudging him. "How are you feeling?"
Anakin awoke and he asked, "Nausicaä?"
The marten's eyes vision to clear and he saw the golden eagle, Nausicaä.
Natius started coming to.
Danyal stated, "I warned you two boys about the incense."
Zander asked, "Why were you out there?"
"Saint Michael," the rat grumbled.
Danyal asked, "Excuse me? You mean you were trying to pray to Saint Michael?"
"Yeah," the rat groaned.
Nausicaä asked Anakin, "Why did you head out there?"
Anakin answered, "I was hoping that the Our Lady of Cardigan would answer my question on what she meant my physical body is in good hands."
Vandela asked, "Did you get the answer to your question?"
Anakin was trying to remember. "I did," he answered. "My body is in a hospital. Doctors are taking care of me."
Nausicaä was relieved to hear that.
Out on the roof of the tower, Emily was looking down on the city. Brutus found her. He was about to say something, but she sensed his presence and asked, "You have questions, I presume?"
Brutus asked, "Were you able to see anything in Danyal after her rant on Frollo last night?"
"Are you asking me if I looked inside his heart?" she wondered.
Brutus nodded. "Did you see anything?"
"I saw a lot of things," she was saying. "Lust, impurity, corruption, and darkness."
Brutus smirked. "I thought as much."
Emily wasn't finished. "But looking a little deeper, I saw pain and suffering. I assume a lot of it has to do with his past."
As Brutus looked at her eyes, he could sense a bit of sadness in her eyes. "Do you feel pity for that man?"
She looked at him and asked, "Do you think that's wrong?"
He was silent for a minute, unsure of how to answer.
"Brutus, it's not easy, but sometimes we have to look a little deeper. We may be surprised at what we may find. And sometimes, we should feel a little even towards those who seek to harm us and do wrong to us."
"And Danyal," Brutus asked again. "What did you see in her?"
"Her thoughts and feelings are understandable and not entirely wrong," said Emily.
Brutus began to think about his encounter with Natius when he was younger.
He asked, "Do you think that the Great Spirits can help me with the element of love?"
Brutus asked, "Do you think that Natius will mind his tongue in the Court of Miracles? During the festival, I had to give him a hard lecture of accountability. Especially when he tried to run towards a small group of rats that were near the tomato cart."
"One question at a time," she told him.
"Sorry," said Brutus. "Actually, regarding the element of love, how did it choose you?"
"I don't even know," she answered truthfully. "All I knew was someone I loved needed my help and I felt I had to do something. Not long after, I looked into the hearts of those who've tried to harm us and underneath all the evil I saw, there was a little light. That's how I've learned to be more forgiving of others."
"Do you just not like feeling hate?" Brutus asked. "Have you ever wanted to get even?"
"Brutus," Emily was saying, "nothing good can come from getting even or wanting to hurt someone. Doing wrong to them in return won't teach them their lessons."
Brutus asked, "Do you think that Natius will mind his tongue in the Court of Miracles? During the festival, I had to give him a hard lecture of accountability. Especially when he tried to run towards a small group of rats that were near the tomato cart."
"I can't control his behavior nor can I predict what he will do," Emily answered.
"What else can you tell me about the element of love?" Brutus asked.
The blonde looked at him. "Many think that love is mostly about romance and passion and finding that one special other. It's really so much more than that. Love also means being willing to put your own feelings aside for someone you care about or someone you know who needs your help. Sometimes we also have to learn to show love not just to people who deserve it, but people who need it too because some people have never had anyone to show them love."
"I bet the minister is like that," Brutus grumbled. He spoke clearly and asked, "Do you think the great spirits could help me?"
"Of that, I don't know," Emily answered honestly. "You would have to find a way to go to Kenai's world."
Brutus took out his family's necklace and he began to think about the day he first met Natius when he was a bear.
Looking at it, he also wondered what love was. He loved his brother, of course, but what more was there? How could he find it within himself to show love to anyone he didn't like?
Brutus began thinking about Natius.
Brutus asked, "What do you see in that beech marten who was from Wales?"
Emily looked at Anakin. "In his heart, there is much confusion for the self. But I also see great loyalty for his comrades. Despite his uncertainties, he's willing to put himself out for others by being the friend he knows he can be."
Brutus commented, "I bet that you looked at Natius's heart and saw a shadow and a flame."
She looked at the rat. "Not quite," she replied. "In his heart, there is an imbalance, as though there is another being within him. Natius believes in what is right, yet he allows his anger to cloud his judgement."
She looked back at Brutus. "I'm sure he means well with his ideas of punishing those who have done wrong, but his ideas make him no better." She looked at the rat again. "It seems he has much to learn about kindness and understanding."
Brutus asked, "What do you mean by another being?"
"That's what everyone tells him," said Brutus.
"Other than that, he's very courageous and has the heart of a warrior," Emily added.
"I mean as I say," she was telling him. "In my efforts to look inside Natius's heart, I've seen another heart. It's like another soul inhabits his body."
Brutus asked, "Who is the other heart?"
"A divine entity," Emily said. "One with a heart of a fiery rage."
Brutus laughed nervously. "Nothing." He cleared his throat. "When you look at me, do you think I'm..." he paused, trying to find the right choice of words.
But Emily was already looking inside his heart. She knew that for years, people have seen bears as savage creatures not just for their intimidating appearances and brute strength, but for the way they ferociously fight their enemies. But many have also failed to realize that bears only attacked when they felt threatened.
Looking inside, she saw someone who was very loving, but still had much to learn just like herself. But she also saw a hint of rage.
Finally, she spoke. "Brutus, you're not a monster nor a savage. You are very much capable of love. But it's not fully open because you're careful of who to trust. There's also a bit of rage in you. One that could take a wrong turn." She looked at him directly. "Brutus, I need you to promise me something."
"What, Princess?"
"Whatever may happen or whatever Frollo may do, promise me you will not give in to your rage."
Brutus was outraged. "What?"
Emily took her hands in his, surprising him. "I'm begging you for your sake," she said. "If you attack him out of anger and hate, you'll be making the same mistake Kenai made when he rejected his element and killed Koda's mother."
Brutus understood what she was asking. She didn't want him to fail the element of love just as his ancestor did in the beginning before he was turned into a bear. He inhaled sharply and sighed. "I promise," he said reluctantly.
"Thank you," she said gratefully.
Natius scurried to the roof of the bell tower, and he noticed the two and he stated, "Snow White visited me last night."
Emily asked, "What?"
Brutus didn't believe him. "Your mind wasn't clear."
"It wasn't my imagination," Natius protested.
Brutus pointed out, "You thought Nausicaä was a crow."
Brutus added, "It even got to the point that you started screaming for Zander to save you. I take that he's like an older brother to you."
In a sense, Natius felt that way towards Zander because he was the one who had helped Natius when he was bit by that rattlesnake.
Curious, Emily asked, "Do you remember what Snow White said to you?"
Natius answered, "I have to go to Prydain to find Brandon Kyle as part of a test."
Brutus growled and he muttered, "That little sneak! If he sets foot near my enclosure, I'll alert the zookeepers because I have a dislike for his attitude."
He asked Natius, "Did the princess say anything else to you?"
"She said to be the better person," Natius answered. "Regarding what, I don't know."
"I don't think it should matter," said Emily. "It's expected of all of us no matter what situation we find ourselves in."
"What kind of land is Prydain?" Brutus asked.
"It's a mythological Wales," Natius explained. "And it's the home world of Taran."
"The assistant pig-keeper," Emily said, having watched The Black Cauldron and reading the Chronicles of Prydain series.
"Why do you have to meet this Brandon person in Prydain?" Emily wondered.
"Snow White said that to prove if I'm worthy of the element of kindness, I have to help Brandon discover the element within himself."
"You know about the elements too?" the blonde asked.
Natius explained, "Figaro has been explaining to me what they are."
Brutus warned, "I have to warn you that Brandon will trick Taran into siding with him for that fiasco with the rattlesnake. He'll also call you Grimhilde just to mock your heritage."
Natius replied, "That name died with Snow White's generation. That's what I plan to tell him."
Natius added, "Snow White unfortunately took the name while marrying Harald."
"Why?" Brutus asked.
Natius sighed in disappointment. "Sadly, to Snow White, Grimhilde was the closest she ever had to a mother. So I guess she didn't want the memory of her stepmother to be a bad one.
Brutus stated, "That's heartbreaking."
Danyal flew up to see the trio and she stated, "We need to have a brief conference. It's regarding a certain minister. About those words, I'm sorry about saying-"
Emily interrupted Danyal, "I can see your point."
Danyal asked, "Excuse me?"
"I don't judge your point of view on him in any," she said. "Anyone can hate him because of who he is and the things he's done. After all, he is a hypocrite; prejudiced, misguided in his ideals, and a murderer."
Danyal stated, "All right. To be honest the look on Frollo's face would be priceless if I told him that rant."
"Not a good idea," Brutus advised. "If he sees the two of you together, he'll have another reason to call the princess a witch."
Danyal realized he was right as she recalled that magpies were considered birds of witchcraft at the time.
She was now at a loss as she had no idea on how to deal with a person who wouldn't comprehend mental disorders.
Brutus pounded his fist against the railing. "If I were a bear, I'd maul him until he couldn't stand."
"Have you already forgotten what you promised me?" Emily asked. "You mustn't give in to your feelings of anger and hate or you'll fail the element of love." She paused, then added, Like me."
Brutus was surprised to hear her use herself as an example. "How can you say you failed?" he asked out of curiosity.
Emily explained herself. "One time when my friends and I battled Frollo, he got wounded. Rather than finish him off, we chose to spare his life. I then used my magic to heal him, hoping my actions would at least teach him something about love or to even look inside himself. But seeing he hasn't learned anything and that he refuses to change his ways, I wasn't able to help him at all. And because of who he is and the things he's done, I don't think I could bring myself to feel love for such a kind of person."
"That's why you think you failed love," said Brutus. She nodded in response.
Natius wanted to protest, but he decided to speak in a kinder manner. "You know, last night, Snow White said that there are some people who can learn from their sins and some who can't. You shouldn't put youself down and say you failed love just because that stupid minister doesn't want to accept what you're trying to show him. He's the one who really failed, not you."
Danyal agreed, "That demon would get a major F in bible studies. He missed out on a commandment: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
"And if you had failed, you wouldn't have taught me all the things you did just now," Brutus added.
It felt good to hear her friends say differently, but at the same time, Emily felt humbled. "Still, I'm no expert. A person can still have a lot to learn about his or her element."
Natius smiled. "Well, last I checked, nobody is perfect."
Danyal stated, "He's got a point."
It was a true fact, indeed. Sadly, it was also a fact that was constantly ignored as people continued to boast and brag about their talents and their abilities. But the friends tried not to let it bother them so much. They decided to head inside the tower.
Inside, they saw their friends playing, talking, and getting to know each other.
Zander asked, "Natius, did you get an answer from Saint Michael?"
Natius narrowed his eyes. "I didn't even get a chance to pray to him before the incense got to me."
Danyal stated, "But he did get some advice from Snow White."
Bianca asked, "What did she tell you Natius?"
Natius told his friends about the dream he had and the advice his ancestress gave him.
Zander asked as he heard Brandon Kyle's name, "Why him?"
Natius replied, "I have to help him discover his element. He might've learned something from that fiasco."
Danyal stated, "I haven't met this boy, but his attitude sucks."
Bianca narrowed her eyes. "I don't suppose Snow White happened to mention what element Brandon has within him?"
Natius shook his head. "She didn't. As for why the land in question is Prydain, I have no idea."
Rebecca shrugged. "Maybe he just needs a journey of self-discovery like we did when we wound up here. We have no connections to this world, yet we ended up here."
Natius looked away. "It just seems so-"
"Mysterious," Mahad interrupted. "I know, but sometimes, coincidences do happen."
Zander asked, "Did you guys know that I dragged Brandon to the principal's office by his ear?"
"You mentioned that," said Mahad.
Darius asked, "Why would he be chosen?"
"I told you, I don't know," said Natius.
Bianca commented, "If that arrogant boy ends up here, the Dark Masters will bait him with terrible rewards."
Danyal asked Natius, "Did you read that verse in Proverbs?"
Natius asked, "Which one? The verse about humility or the one about pride?"
"But if the Dark Masters see Brandon with us, they'll see him as a traitor and kill him," Jeanette pointed out.
Bianca asked, "Why?"
Natius answered, "I saw him with Turbo."
Bianca asked, "What?"
Brutus asked, "Who is Turbo? I'm sorry if I asked at a bad time."
Danyal answered, "Turbo was a Dark Master and was defeated for his transgressions."
Natius looked back at her. "I have read both verses in Proverbs. Why do you ask?"
Danyal stated, "You can quote them if Brandon gives you a hard time. Also Taran is prideful."
Natius also remembered a phrase his grandmother often said: Pride comes before demise. He would be sure to inform Brandon of the same phrase if he ever needed to.
Darius ranted, "What element would Taran possess? He was an arrogant little brat! If anything, Taran is the butt of jokes among heroes in the history of Disney animation. His story almost killed the company."
Zander shrugged. "I guess we won't know until we go to Prydain."
"And to get there, we have to-" but Jeanette was interrupted by the sound of Lopmon's cries.
"The whole city is ablaze!'"
Danyal yelled, "That minister has become more monster than man!"
She looked at Bianca and the rabbit asked, "If he was to kill my grandfather in a fire. Would that mean that my grandfather died because of me? That's what that demon said."
Bianca started crying!
"This is happening because of me," Emily said, horrified at the sight.
Natius replied, "No. Frollo made this choice and therefore is at fault for this. He has been consumed by his lust and should face Saint Michael."
Gatomon rubbed herself against her partner's legs. "He's right. Stop beating yourself up so much. Besides, Frollo probably doesn't realize you're still here."
"It doesn't matter if he thinks we're still here or if we escaped with Esmeralda," said Téa. "He'd still be destroying the city either way."
"I still feel like this is my fault," said Emily. "Our friends are out there and there's nothing we can do because we're stuck here and it's because of me that we're stuck here."
Darius had enough. He raised his hand and slapped her across her face, shocking everyone. "Will you get it together? None of this is your fault."
Danyal agreed, "He's right. That minister has caused his own downfall. He has crossed a line and now he has lost sympathy from me and he's lost to the darkness."
Bianca listened to them as she thought about her question. It didn't take long for her to understand that it wouldn't be her fault if her grandfather was killed in a fire.
Danyal turned to Darius and scolded, "You, on the other hand need to work on that attitude of yours. If you want to slap someone, slap Frollo!"
"I just couldn't stand hearing her talk like that anymore," he stated. "I admire her sense of humility, but she shouldn't blame herself for that monster's actions; even if she is the one he's obsessed with."
Danyal began to understand what he was saying, and she stated, "We need to form a plan to bring Frollo to justice."
Nausicaä signaled Anakin to follow her into a corner of the bell tower, and the marten scurried to the golden eagle.
Anakin asked, "Why do you want to see me in this time?"
Nausicaä replied, "I just need to know more about that dream you had last night. Who visited you this time, was it Our Lady of Cardigan again?"
Anakin answered, "No."
Nausicaä asked, "Who was it?"
"It was James," he answered. "You know, James Henry Trotter. Except he looked so much older. Anyway, he came to me because he said the element of friendship is within me."
At first, Nausicaä almost didn't believe him, because James wasn't a direct ancestor to either of them. At least, neither of them were related to him by blood. But then she remembered that James had a connection to their family.
Nausicaä stated, "He was friends with our grandfather and became a godfather to our father. He was crushed to hear that our mum was killed."
Anakin asked confused, "What? My mum died?"
Nausicaä answered, "From what my father told me, she sacrificed her life to protect her husband as she did not want to marry the man who would murder her husband. I'm so sorry."
Anakin fell to the floor on his knees and his paws were on the floor of the tower and started crying.
Quasimodo heard the sobbing and he asked, "What's wrong?"
Matthias noticed the marten crying in sadness.
Maria asked, "Are you Arthur Marshall?"
Anakin replied, "I don't know anymore."
Téa came by and saw Anakin crying on the floor. It pained her to see him look so sad and hurt and she could tell he needed a friend to comfort him. She got down on her knees and gently placed her hand over his back and began rubbing it just like how a friend would rub someone else's back or shoulder to soothe them. "We're all here for you, Anakin."
Anakin confessed what Nausicaä told him about what happened to his mother.
Téa stated, "Your mother's sacrifice makes me think of Kisara when she sacrificed her life to protect her lover, Seto."
"Kisara?" Lopmon asked in confusion.
"Emily told me about her," Téa explained. "She was one of the Children of Millennia. She represented the element of light."
"That's right," said Mokuba. "My brother said when his ancestor was in danger, Kisara gave up her power and her life to save him. Then she entrusted her power to him so he could use it to protect their friends."
That was when Quasimodo remembered. He came back with a storybook his friends gave to him a long time ago; one about the Children of Millennia and their adventures. "I saw it here somewhere," he said, looking through the pages. He found the right page and set the book down for everyone to see.
Natius stated as he noticed the illustration of Kisara, "It's really heartbreaking that they persecuted her because of her physical appearance. If she was in China, they would show her as much respect as their dragons."
As he looked closely at the illustration, he commented, "I have a neighbor who almost looks like her. However, her hair is black and she has grey eyes."
"At least the royals were kind to Kisara and her little cousin Freya," said Emily.
"Joey mentioned her. The one who represented hope, right?" Téa asked.
Emily nodded. "She made the same sacrifice to save her love."
Darius asked Maria, "Who's Arthur Marshall?"
Maria confessed, "I have been reading news articles about that boy from Wales. His case has a similar attitude with Dorothy Gale's case."
Darius was familiar with Dorothy Gale, having seen The Wizard of Oz. He was also familiar with the incidents their father talked about regarding missing children from various places.
Anakin asked Maria, "What do you mean by that?"
Maria explained, "According to what my father told me, a boy was in an accident, putting him in a comatose state. When Dorothy lost consciousness, she dreamed about being in another world. She felt like she was actually there when really, she was back home."
She looked at Anakin. "I think that boy is you, Anakin. You feel like you're really here when your body is really back in your home."
Nausicaä confessed, "My father called an ambulance after Arthur was unresponsive for 20 minutes. He knew that something was wrong with his son, so he had the boy taken to a hospital that deals with cases like this. Aeson Olympios told me about my brother's soul being lost in the Disney Kingdom. He sent me to the Disney Kingdom so I could see if I could find my brother there."
This was a lot for Anakin to take in. Still, what Nausicaä was saying made sense. When he looked into the Mirror of Recollections back at Adam's castle, the last thing he saw was himself being attacked by a dark figure.
Anakin confessed, "I found out more information. That servant, Elvira stole the gloves from the Dark Masters. These gloves were created by Turbo, but Maleficent forbade Turbo from using them because the concept of removing the soul and mind was out of the question after an incident with a boy from an alternate world."
Danyal muttered, "Koichi Kimura."
Darius stated, "Are you talking about Koji's older twin?"
Danyal answered, "Yes. His story arc is to me a reflection of what Dorothy would become had she been corrupted by the Wicked Witch."
Rebecca remembered an incident as such. "I don't suppose you mean that kid Koichi from the Digimon season about the legendary warriors?"
Anakin thought back. "You know, I had forgotten, but that was his name. What do you know?"
Rebecca recalled what happened. "Koichi recieved a call from a celestial Digimon named Ophanimon to come to the Digital World like the other kids. On the way, he followed his twin brother, Koji, whom he had never met before, only to have heard about him from his ill grandmother. Anyway, Koichi followed Koji, but didn't make it to the Digital World the same way his brother did."
"What happened?" Maria asked.
Darius interrupted Rebecca and told the rest of the story. "Koichi had an accident and took a fatal fall. After that, his mind and soul were transported to the Digital World. I guess it was his will and determination to meet Koji that made it possible."
"It doesn't end there," Rebecca chimed in. "Another celestial Digimon named Cherubimon found Koichi and convinced him to use the power of the element of darkness for evil."
Téa looked at her partner, remembering that Cherubimon was her mega form. "Lopmon?"
"It had to have been a different Cherubimon," said the rabbit.
"It was," said Darius. "This one was corrupted and filled with evil. But the legendary warriors were able to unite and stop him and rescue Koichi and help him remember who he was."
Natius stated to Anakin, "You were fortunate not to end up meeting a similar fate."
Anakin asked, "What makes you say that?"
"Well, look at yourself," Natius was telling him. "You're not on the path of evil. You're here as a friend and comrade."
Anakin began to reflect on the conversation that he had with Adam.
Danyal stated, "There's a story of a man who was thrown into a den of lions and he survived. You have endured abuse at the hands of the Dark Masters, but someone saved you from becoming a lost chosen child."
"Are you referring to the Biblical story of Daniel?" Emily wondered.
Danyal answered, "Yes."
Anakin asked, "What does he have to do with Koichi and myself?"
Natius didn't understand either. Daniel didn't walk on the path of evil or turn away from the Lord when he was thrown into the lion's den. In fact, it was his faith that saved him.
Danyal answered, "The way I see it, when Koichi was battling that mirror image of Cherubimon, I have always thought that Koichi was facing lions in his own mind. One lion symbolizing the guilt of the stigma of being corrupted by evil, one symbolizing his inner demons that followed him shortly after being freed from the control of Cherubimon, while the third lion representing the deathless courage of the animal itself. Koichi displayed that bravery by using the darkness with a lion motif to combat those who affiliate themselves with Lucemon. Ultimately, Koichi had faith that his brother would defeat Lucemon when he sacrificed himself to protect his friends."
Natius and Anakin looked at each other. "That actually makes sense," said Anakin. "The both of them also remembered what Adam said to them about having the heart of a lion.
Danyal stated, "We need to formulate a plan to take Frollo down."
Mana asked, "What can we do?"
Darius found Emily in the main room looking at the figurines. Maria stood by him to urge him to talk to her. He cleared his throat to get her attention. She looked at him and he said, "I apologize for my behavior earlier."
She turned away. "You don't have to apologize for anything," she insisted. "I know you and the others are disgusted that I would feel sadness and pity for Frollo instead of hate."
"Why do you?" Darius asked out of curiosity.
She sighed and said, "In my humble opinion, it's better to pity someone who doesn't understand love than it is to hate him." She set the figurine down. "It's tragic, really. I represent love, yet I can't teach him anything."
Darius sat beside her. "Maybe you're not meant to. Maybe it was already too late for him before the two of you met. But that doesn't mean you failed your element."
Emily managed to smile. "You know, since I came to this world, I've felt like I was always being tested when it came to my element."
That was when it made sense to Darius and Maria. Emily was facing one trial of love after another. It hadn't dawned on either of them that that was another possible reason why she was refusing to give in to hate despite being aware of who the minister was and the things he did.
Maria smiled at Emily. "You have a good heart, Emily. The way you strive to be true to your element proves it. And to me, that makes you beautiful inside and out."
Emily lightly blushed, feeling humbled by Maria's kind words. "Do you really think so?"
She did. "In my opinion, anyone with a good heart is beautiful inside and out."
Brutus stated, "She's right."
Anakin grabbed the Frollo figurine, and Darius began laughing as he watched the marten tie the Frollo doll's neck to the hangman's noose.
Bianca began to laugh at this.
A deep voice stated, "I would rather see Frollo face Master Yen Sid."
Nausicaä turned to see Aeson Olympios and she cried in a grateful, "Aeson. Thank you for helping me in finding my brother."
Aeson was surprised to see Nausicaä in the form of an eagle.
Nausicaä smiled. "You look surprised. Surely Master Yen Sid would have told you we'd be disguised as animals while we were here." But she was also surprised to see him. How was he able to come here while the church was still surrounded with guards?
Aeson smiled as he took out the amulet of his ancestor, "I asked Mickey to provide me a secret portal to here and I avoided the guards by telling them that I have travelled from Greece to see the cathedral. I have come here to give Vandela a scroll she can use outside the tower. I would like to make one rule clear. We do not kill Frollo. We are to incapacitate and have him stand trial."
Natius asked Aeson, "Can I ask you something about the dagger?"
Aeson replied, "You can ask, but there's no guarantee that I'll answer your question."
Natius asked, "What if I cut Frollo's hand in self-defense?"
Aeson looked at the dagger. "If you were only trying to protect yourself or any of your comrades instead of using the weapon to exact your anger, it could have a different effect."
Bianca asked, "What makes you say that?"
"Before the dagger was corrupted by Grimhilde, it was actually a weapon that could wound, but not kill," Aeson explained. "In its state, anyone cut by its blade would be condemned to the lowest depths of Hades' dominion wearing red hot shoes. But if the dagger was to be used for a more righteous purpose, that effect would be negated."
Natius asked, "Is that why I saw a pure red light in the dagger? I had a dream about Mr. Virgil using it on himself."
Of that, Aeson did not know. "I don't know why you would see a light, but I would advise you to keep that weapon away from your teacher to prevent him from using it."
Aeson handed a scroll that had the power to transport any villain regardless of rank to the courtroom of King Mickey to Vandela.
He warned her, "Frollo is a dangerous man, so be very careful with him."
Vandela asked, "So this scroll will send Frollo to King Mickey's courtroom?"
Aeson answered, "Yes."
He turned his attention to the others. "I never thought I'd actually see real Digimon here. It's also just as amazing to meet heroes from the Warner Domain."
Téa asked as she noticed his shield, "What is that?"
Aeson looked down at his shield. "This shield has the power to release a light capable of temporarily paralyzing my enemies. It also turns recent bad memories into nightmares."
"Aeson was the one who rescued us from the Dark Masters' castle," said Vandela.
Leon asked, "Who was your ancestor?"
Aeson smiled proudly. "Hercules - warrior of strength and son of Zeus."
Téa's smile brightened up. "Hey, my friend Tristan represents the element of strength."
Aeson cautioned, "The Disney Kingdom is not safe at this time. So, you can't bring him here."
Téa asked, "Why?"
Emily looked at her. "He's right. These worlds are still threatened by the Dark Masters. Aside from that, we actually haven't found a way to visit any of these other worlds."
"But we're in the home world of a-"
Leon pulled her dress to get her attention. "Girls, ix-nay on the ark-day aster-may," he said through his teeth.
Danyal added, "We will explain to you once we take Frollo down for his disgusting terrorism. You can see us in our true forms."
Lopmon asked Danyal, "What if you imitate Maleficent to scare Frollo? He's terrified of her."
Danyal answered, "Magpies are unfortunately associated with witchcraft in this era."
Lopmon stated, "That's unfair."
"Brutus already explained the risk of that," said Emily. "It would give Frollo one more reason to call me a witch."
Zander stated, "You are almost like Natius. Wanting to get back at those who wronged, but neglect to realize the consequences will catch up to you."
8Lopmon looked at Zander. "I'm sorry, were you telling me that?"
ander answered, "Yes. You've got lucky."
Lopmon turned away, not wanting to start an argument. She hadn't realized the danger of what she was suggesting.
"I must go now," said Aeson. "Your friend should be coming to this tower soon."
Bianca was about to ask Aeson some questions, but he already had left.
Jeanette asked, "What friend is he talking about?"
Her question was answered as they all heard Esmeralda's voice. "Quasi? Téa? Emily? Everybody?"
Natius stated, "Quasi, we need to get something to help Phoebus."
"Who?" he asked in confusion.
"The soldier you drove away last night," Leon clarified.
Téa and Emily and their Digimon came downstairs and saw Esmeralda along with another gypsy with a wounded and unconscious Phoebus. Gatomon gasped as she saw the wound. "What happened to him?"
Esmeralda explained, saying a miller and his family were about to be burned alive for being accused of harboring gypsies. Phoebus charged in and saved the family and was about to be sentenced to death. The captain escaped, but was shot down by a barrage of arrows fired by the soldiers and wounded in the shoulder.
Everyone brought Phoebus upstairs and laid him down on his back. He quickly came to and the first person he saw was Esmeralda. She hushed him and said, "You'll hide here until your strong enough to move," and began treating his wound.
Emily looked to the window. "I should go stand watch."
"I'd better join you," Nausicaä suggested. With her keen sight, she'd be able to spot any enemies fast.
Mana commented, "With that guy's actions, he'd be a firefighter."
Darius ranted, "If that minister would pull this crap in Los Angeles, that would come back to bite him in the ass. Because I would send not just my Dalmatians, but also three police dogs to hunt him down."
"Hey, language," Matthias scolded.
"Sorry," Darius replied. "But you have to admit, the idea is funny."
"Don't forget, our father was a fireman before he was chief of police," said Maria.
Darius commented, "I remember that dad told me once he would take a small trio of Dalmatian units to find any victims to remove from the fire."
Esmeralda finished mending Phoebus's wound. "It seems fortune was with you," she said to him. "That arrow almost pierced your heart."
Phoebus took her hand and placed it against his chest. "I'm not so sure it didn't," he replied. The two of them looked into each other's eyes and shared a kiss. Quasimodo looked on and was heartbroken that Esmeralda loved Phoebus instead of him. Lopmon saw that he was hurt and walked up to him to comfort him.
Nausicaä noticed Frollo's carriage stopping towards the church!
She cried, "Demon alert! Demon alert!"
Danyal felt so much anger towards the minister as she saw him coming to the door of the church and she flew up into a bell, hoping that the bell would shield her from the upcoming outburst.
Zander climbed up to join her!
Nausicaä caught Anakin burning the bottom of the Frollo figurine, she swooped down and grabbed her brother.
She asked, "What are you thinking?"
"Come on," he groaned.
"We don't have time for such childish antics," she scolded him.
Quasimodo pulled himself together and said to Esmeralda, "You must leave."
She understood, but she didn't want to leave without her friends again. "Téa, Emily, please come with me. I don't want Frollo to catch you or hurt you."
The girls looked at each other, then back at the hunchback. "You should go with her," he told them.
"But we don't want to leave you," Gatomon protested.
"There's no time to argue," said Rebecca. "Go now while you have the chance."
"But what about the rest of you?" Emily asked.
"We'll be fine," Mokuba assured her. "We can help with Phoebus."
So the girls decided to go with their friend. "All of you be careful," Téa said, holding Lopmon in her arms.
"Promise you won't let anything happen to him," Esmeralda pleaded.
"We promise," said Leon.
"Thank you." And the girls took their leave.
Bianca hopped behind the statue of Saint Melangell with Natius who urged her to hide with him.
Zander noticed Danyal was looking anxious and he asked her, "Are you okay?"
Danyal replied, "I'm losing my patience with that bigoted pig."
"We all are," he told her.
Mokuba, Rebecca, and Leon lifted Phoebus and slid him under the table and concealed him with the tablecloth. They didn't want to hide, knowing Frollo would likely do something to hurt Quasimodo, but they reluctantly went upstairs to avoid being seen by the minister.
The minister walked up to the bell tower, startling Quasimodo.
Jeanette hid under a bell that was next to the bell that Danyal and Zander were hiding in, standing on the clapper in disgust with Frollo being called master.
No one seemed to be more nervous than Quasimodo. It was hard for him not to be nervous around his master; especially this time. Frollo casually looked around the bell tower, as though expecting Mokuba, Rebecca, and Leon to come out and give him a hard time as usual.
To his surprise, he found no one.
Natius felt a burning anger as he felt an urge to roast Frollo . Bianca was fearful for Natius's life.
Bianca held him in an embrace!
Natius was shocked at the rabbit's actions as he felt her around him.
Natius refrained from gasping at the touch of Bianca's embrace. He knew if he made a sound, they would be discovered. Phoebus wasn't making the situation easier either by groaning and waking up. At least Quasimodo was able to silence him.
Bianca whispered, "I'm here for you just as Snow White was there for Aurora after her story flunked."
Frollo asked, "What's different in here?"
"Nothing, sir," Quasimodo answered.
Frollo began looking around again. His attention was directed to two unfamiliar figurines on the table. "Aren't these new? They're awfully good. This one looks very much like the gypsy girl. And the other looks like the young princess."
Mokuba silently gasped, having not realized he forgot to grab the figurines.
"I know you helped them escape!" Frollo shouted. "And now all of Paris is burning because of you!"
"They were kind to me, Master," Quasimodo said weakly.
"You idiot!" Frollo yelled. "The princess is a witch! She has you under a spell! And the gypsy girl is no better! Neither of them are capable of real love! Think, boy, think of your mother!"
Zander whispered to Danyal, "You can burn that minister's figurine for good measure."
Mokuba couldn't stand it anymore. He came out of hiding and charged up to Frollo, pulling on the man to get him to release his friend. Frollo pushed the boy back and he fell across the floor.
"Mokuba!" cried Quasimodo.
"Mokuba," Frollo echoed. "If you're here, Leon and Rebecca must be here too."
That was when they came out to help their friends. Mokuba got up and looked at the minister with eyes full of anger.
"I thought I told the three of you to stay out of my way," he growled.
"Yes, you did," Mokuba replied. "But I couldn't stand by anymore and let you keep hurting my friend."
"We've had enough of the way you've been treating us, Frollo," Rebecca cried. "You've been tormenting me and my friends and you've been cruel and abusive to Quasimodo for too long!"
"And those horrible things you said about Esmeralda and Emily are nothing but lies!" Leon shouted.
Frollo backhanded Leon across the face, leaving gashes from his rings.
"Leon, no!" his friends cried.
Frollo cried, "You children are under a spell!"
Leon placed his hand against his cheek and looked at him with tears in his eyes.
Mokuba helped him up. "Leon."
"I'm fine, Mokuba," he insisted.
Quasimodo held Rebecca protectively, not wanting to see his master strike her too.
Frollo suddenly calmed himself. "You three have been a thorn in my side since you came to this world. But no matter. Those two witches will soon be out of our lives."
"What do you mean?" Quasimodo asked.
Frollo drew a dagger from his sleeve and plunged it into the figurine of Esmeralda. "Listen carefully, all of you," he was saying, setting the figurine on fire. "I've discovered where the gypsy girl is hiding. And no doubt the young princess and her friends are with her. Tomorrow at dawn, I attack with a thousand men." He did the same thing to the figurine of Emily and added, "And no one will stop me."
Mokuba, Leon, and Rebecca all felt their blood turn into ice. They had underestimated Frollo. They knew he had lustful desires for Emily, but neither of them knew he would go this far and want to kill her.
As soon as Frollo left, Leon felt tears streaming from his face..
Danyal told Leon, "Get a grip on yourself. That cruel demon has done a lot worse than that childish tantrum."
Leon knew that, but it still hurt getting struck like that.
Danyal looked at him with understanding, "I'm sorry for yelling like that. It's just that this minister is really starting to irritate me."
Natius scurried to the trio and he stated, "We need to think of a plan of attack."
He grabbed the Frollo figurine and he noticed the burn marks and he asked, "Why are there burns on the figurine?"
"I placed the figurine over the candle's flame," Anakin answered.
"You guys are still crazy for facing Frollo like that," said Mahad. "Even if it was to stand up for your friend."
Natius smiled. "At least you were able to tell him off about how annoyed you were with him."
Maria commented, "I would have slapped him in the face and tell him to stop this nonsense in the style of my grandmother."
Darius stated, "I would've given him a reason you suck speech."
"So why didn't any of you guys come out of hiding like we did?" Rebecca asked.
"Things were going bad enough already," said Matthias.
Maria stated, "He's got a point."
Natius asked Bianca, "Why'd you embrace me?"
Bianca replied, "I have a feeling that you dealt with people like this. I understood that you were becoming increasingly irritated with that minister."
Mokuba couldn't stand it either. That was why he charged in like that. He knew what it was like to be mistreated like that. He deeply empathized with the hunchback.
Toboé walked up to Mokuba and he stated, "You know, I saw a similar symbol like your crest in my dreams. It was being held by a ragdoll figure."
Mokuba asked, "Who was that figure?"
"She said her name was Sally," Toboé answered.
The children were familiar with the name Sally. It was the name of the girl who empathized with Jack Skellington and had feelings for him.
Bianca asked, "Why would she reach out to you?"
Toboé replied, "After my first transformation, I thought that I was becoming a monster."
"Sally is from Halloween Town," Leon recalled. "It's a world of monsters."
Danyal speculated, "It's possible Sally saw something in your heart."
Mokuba looked down at his wooden pallet below his neck. "What are you saying, Toboé? Do you think Sally represents empathy just like I do?"
Toboé replied, "Yes."
It was mysterious to Mokuba, but he didn't have time to think about this. Right now, finding the Court of Miracles was more important.
Matthias looked at the gashes on Leon's cheek.
"We should get that bandaged," he suggested.
"No, I'm fine," Leon insisted.
Brutus stated, "If Frollo plans to kill her, then I will die in her stead."
Danyal asked Brutus, "Why?"
Brutus replied, "There is no greater love than to lay down his life for those he cares about."
Bianca smirked. "Are you saying you're in love with the princess?"
"I never said that," Brutus told her.
Phoebus came out from under the table. "Well, if you're going to look for the Court of Miracles, then I'm going with you."
"Are you sure?" Mokuba asked. "Your wound hasn't fully healed yet."
"I've been through worse, trust me," he said, grinning.
Mokuba believed him. This man has been through the terrors of war, aftee all. He looked to the hunchback. "Quasi, we have to go."
Quasimodo looked away. "We can't."
"What?" Mokuba asked. "But our friends-"
"I've put you in enough danger already," Quasimodo interrupted. "If your brother found out what happened just now, he'd never forgive me. How can I help anyone else when I can't even defend my own friends?"
Mokuba took a minute to think about what Quasimodo was feeling. The boy realized he was hurt, confused, and afraid of disobeying his master again. The hunchback was also afraid he wouldn't be able to protect his friends again because of his loyalty to his master.
That wasn't the only thing that tormented Quasimodo. His friends were always standing up for him and defending him when he thought it should be the other way around.
Rebecca spoke up. "Well, I'd rather take a hit than allow that bully to hurt you or any of my friends."
Brutus stated, "I know you mean well, but I do not want this demon to execute her."
Natius took the figure of Frollo and just as he was about to light the figure on fire, Danyal swooped down and snatched the figure out of the rat's paws and dropped it into a bucket of water.
Anakin cried, "We need to figure out where to go from here."
Danyal stated, "Like I said, I will not be meeting you in the Court of Miracles. However, I can send a message."
Hearing Danyal say that made an idea click in Mokuba's mind. "Of course, why didn't I think of this? I can get a message to my brother." He went to the table and got a piece of parchment and a quill and ink and began writing. When he finished, he waited for the ink to dry before folding the message. "I need someone to go to the inn my brother is staying at and give him this."
"Where's the inn?" Nausicaä asked.
"Across the square and around the corner from the bakery," he instructed.
Nausicaä stated, "All right. Danyal, let's head out."
Danyal commented, "That minister is going to be in for a nasty surprise."
The birds began to fly into the sky.
As they flew to the inn, they began looking through the windows, hoping someone would still be awake. Nausicaä looked through a window and saw a dimly lit room with three young men. Surely one of them had to be Mokuba's brother. She tapped the window with her beak to get their attention.
The window was opened by a brunette. "An eagle and a magpie," he commented.
Nausicaä showed him the parchment in her beak. Joey took it and unfolded it. "It's from Mokuba. He says he needs our help."
"What?" Kaiba asked. He took the note and read the contents. "Oh, no," he groaned. "That damned minister has plotted another attack."
Danyal stated, "I can't go with you because magpies are associated with witchcraft in that era."
Joey jumped back and yelped. "You can talk?"
"No time to explain," said Nausicaä. "You've got to hurry."
The trio agreed. They grabbed their weapons, dressed themselves in hooded cloaks, and left the inn.
Nausicaä asked, "Danyal?"
Danyal replied, "I will not a let that disgraceful bigot massacre innocent people. I'm going to find other crows and magpies that can help us in dealing with his disgusting barbarism. Wish me luck on that."
Nausicaä nodded in understanding. She began leading the trio to the cemetery while Danyal took another path.
Joey asked the eagle, "Who are you?"
"My name is Nausicaä," she replied. "And I've heard a lot about you three from Mokuba and his friends."
Yugi asked, "Are there others who will join us?"
"Yes," she answered. "You'll be seeing many various animals along with the hunchback, Captain Phoebus, Mokuba and his friends, and a few other humans."
Yugi nodded in understanding. "Hopefully, once we find the Court of Miracles, we'll find Téa and Emily."
"Keep your voices down," Kaiba said silently. "Frollo could still have soldiers patrolling the city."
Everyone understood and continued on their way.
They made it to the cemetary and waited for the others. As Nausicaä said, Mokuba, Rebecca, and Leon arrived along with Natius and his friends, and Phoebus and Quasimodo. It took some time and effort, but the hunchback was finally convinced to join everyone and warn the gypsies of Frollo's plan of attack.
Chuck smiled, "Now this is getting interesting."
"The champions of Duel Monsters," Darius said with glee.
"The rest of the Heroes of Millennia," whispered Quasimodo.
Phoebus was surprised to hear that. "The Heroes of Millennia?"
He had heard of them, but thought they were a legend.
Matthias noticed Danyal wasn't with Nausicaä and he asked, "Where did Danyal fly off to?"
"She went to go get help," the eagle answered.
"Leon, what happened to your face?" Yugi asked, noticing the bandages on his cheek.
"Don't worry about me," he said. "Let's just find the entrance to the Court."
Natius stated to Joey, "You missed Mr. Olympios."
"Who?" Joey asked.
Rebecca waved to call for everyone's attention. "Guys, I think I found it."
Everyone surrounded a large tomb. Leon inspected it and felt a groove under the slab. "Give me a hand, guys."
Quasimodo helped out and moved the slab, revealing a flight of stairs.
"It leads underground," Kaiba observed. He looked to Toboé. "You, wolf. Stay out here and keep watch for any spies."
Toboé stated, "I have a family name of Talbot."
Kaiba ordered, "Okay, Talbot. Make sure you give any spies a real scare."
Meanwhile, Danyal had flown thirty kilometers south of the cemetery and to her luck, she found a tree that had a parliament of magpies and a small murder of crows that were perched on the branches of the tree discussing about the chaos that Frollo had caused. One crow noticed a magpie that was flying towards their tree.
Danyal perched onto a branch, and she introduced herself, "My name is Danyal and I have come here to inform you that Frollo is going to massacre innocent people who have committed no crime to earn the death penalty."
A skeptical raven stated, "One problem. Frollo will think of us as birds of evil and our presence will only make things worse."
Danyal then remembered what happened back at the dwarves' cottage when Snow White's bird friends attacked Grimhilde when she was disguised as an old peddler woman. Snow White shooed the birds away and came to her wicked stepmother's aid. Maybe this plan wasn't a good one.
She stated, "Sorry guys, but I have a good question. What birds would be considered good spirits like angels? Are there any doves?"
One magpie looked towards Notre Dame. "The Saints usually keep them in the cathedral."
Danyal asked, "Do you know where in the cathedral?"
"We don't," the same magpie answered. "Even if you were to fly there and find a few doves, I doubt you would make it back in time to help your friends."
Danyal flew away in despair, unable to find potential reinforcements she prayed, "Lord, I need your help in this dark hour. I don't like the thought of colleagues getting killed because of having differences whether its religion, race, gender, or whatever differences that others have trouble getting along with."
Back in the cemetery, Toboé paced around. He stopped as a strange scent filled his nostrils. He could tell someone was nearby. He growled ferociously, as though giving a warning.
Down in the underground, Leon asked Mokuba, "Do you think Esmeralda remembered to tell Clopin and the others about us like she said she would?"
"I hope so," he answered. "I hope the leader of the gypsies will hear us out and not quickly accuse us of being spies."
Toboé started smelling a small amount of incense.
Clopin cried, "We have been waiting for you children. I was waiting for a magpie to make a rant on Frollo. I was wondering, when can I hear that?"
Bianca stated, "Sorry Clopin, but that will have to wait."
The other Gypsies were astonished.
"Clopin, listen to me," Mokuba pleaded. "You and your people are in terrible danger."
"Frollo's coming," Leon said in alarm. "He told us he knows where you're hiding and he's attacking at dawn with a thousand men."
Esmeralda cried, "We must waste no time. We must leave immediately."
The gypsies recieved the alert and began packing to leave. Téa and Emily and their Digimon broke through the crowds and made their way to their friends and began embracing them. "Boy, are we glad to see you guys," Téa said, hugging Yugi.
"It's great to see you girls," Joey said, hugging Emily. "I still can't believe you've been here all this time."
"We'll tell you about it later," said Emily. "Where are Danyal and Toboé?"
"Danyal went to get more help and Toboé is outside standing guard," Brutus answered.
"Well, you all certainly took a terrible risk coming here. It may not exactly show, but we're grateful," Esmeralda said, hugging Phoebus.
The former captain saw Quasimodo and Brutus looking awkwardly at each other. He freed himself and said, "Don't thank me. Thank Quasimodo and the children and all their friends. They're the real heroes."
Emily smiled. "I think we know that better than anyone else.'
Phoebus nodded. "Without their help, I would have never found my way here."
"Nor would I," boomed Frollo's voice. Everyone saw him standing at the entrance and began to panic as soldiers blocked off all means of escape and began to seize them.
The heroes were circled by rows of spears!
Frollo smiled, "At last, after all these years of searching the Court of Miracles is mine."
Brutus looked around for Toboé. "But I thought-"
Frollo paid him no mind. He triumphantly walked towards the heroes. "Dear Quasimodo, I always knew you would someday be of use to me," he said, stroking his hair.
"No," the hunchback gasped.
"What are you talking about?" Esmeralda asked.
"Why, he led me right to you, my dear," the minister said.
"Liar!" Rebecca accused. "You followed us here!"
Frollo looked towards the children. "Rebecca, Mokuba, and Leon. You children have been a nuisance, but at least you proved yourselves useful by helping Quasimodo bring me to the people I've been after."
"Frollo!" Kaiba shouted. "Touch my brother and I'll break your neck!"
The minister turned his attention to the others and his smile broadened. "And will the surprises never cease? The legendary Heroes of Millennia. Another miracle, indeed."
Chuck yelled, "Frollo, you are a disgrace to the Cross! You have shamed the Catholic Church!"
The Gypsies muttered, "Oooh."
They began to laugh at the minister
The minister looked at Chuck, Maria, Darius, and Matthias and removed their hoods from their faces. His eyes widened as he looked at them, then back at his captives. The resemblances were striking. Then it made sense to him. These people were descendants of the heroes of this world.
He asked Chuck, "What brings you heathens here?"
"None of your business, you evil man!" Darius barked.
As Frollo was going to announce the bonfire to burn Esmeralda and Emily at the stake. He heard a voice yell, "Wait!"
Brutus walked in front of Emily; his arms were outstretched as if wanting to shield her, "I will die in her stead!"
Frollo asked, "Why? Are you in love with her?"
Brutus answered, "No, but I have a secret to tell you. I am the bear that you sought out."
Frollo made up his decision to execute Brutus instead of Emily and he stated to the princess, "You've got lucky, princess."
"Brutus, no," Emily protested. "I won't let you lay down your life for me. It's not worth it to."
"Princess, you've taught me so much about love," Brutus said to her.
"If you die, it will be for nothing," she told him. "And you'll never become who you're meant to be. Selfish as this may sound, I'd rather die than allow someone else to pay the price for me."
Brutus was touched by her words. "Frollo, look at this girl," he said with his voice raised. "How can you call her someone who doesn't understand real love?"
The minister grinned. "You don't realize it, do you? She's bewitching you. That is why she must be removed."
"What?" Brutus asked in disbelief. "But you said-"
"The young princess has made up her mind," said Frollo. "She will pay for her crimes against God with her very life."
"You can't do this!" Brutus shouted.
Frollo grinned at him. "Since you care about her so much, I'll let you join her. It will be a pleasure destroying two warriors of love."
Yugi struggled against the grips of the soldiers. "Blast it, Frollo! She is not a witch and you know it!"
Bianca had enough and she started to viciously bite and scratch Frollo!
"Bianca!" Rebecca cried.
Frollo looked down at the rabbit. "Bianca?" He got her off of him and finally noticed the other animals. "Of course. I should have known you brats would have taken on the forms of animals. Maleficent was right. All this time, you were hiding right under my nose.
Frollo asked, "Where is that mentally unstable magpie?"
"Right back at you," Natius snapped. "What have you done with Toboé?"
Frollo answered, "Incense has it's uses. That wolf took a small sniff of it and he fled to find a magpie."
Emily gasped. "Danyal."
Frollo was astonished to hear her say the magpie's true name. "So you know who I'm referring to. You really are a witch, young princess."
"No, I'm not," she argued. "What I do is called magic, not witchcraft."
"What's the difference? he asked, not really caring.
"I use my magical powers for good," she answered. "Why don't I tell everyone here what you really are?"
He gave a stern glare. "You wouldn't."
"Emily, don't," Leon cried, fearful she would reveal that he was a Dark Master.
But while she was tempted to do so, she said something else. "Quasimodo isn't the real monster here; you are!"
Frollo gritted his teeth in anger. "You're as mentally unstable as that magpie!" And he slapped her across her face.
"Princess!" her friends cried.
Frollo grabbed her and lifted her by her hair. She winced from the pain as she looked at him. "You have disgraced me, humiliated me, and like the rest of your friends, insulted me. You will die, Princess, and no one, not even the Lord will save you; not after the crimes you committed against Him."
Emily breathed sharply through her teeth, but said nothing. She was too angry to speak and his grip on her was hurting her.
Natius stated, "You better beware because the crows know what you have done. You're the mentally unstable one here. Do you know what Jesus said to his Disciples? Go ye into the whole world and preach the gospel to every living creature."
Zander added, "Also, the Lord is forgiving. I heard her say a prayer for forgiveness last night. You have judged others by the color of their skin, but tonight you will learn that we are all the same color on the inside."
"Be silent, both of you!" Frollo ordered. "I still plan on taking you and your friends back to Maleficent."
"She'll kill you for putting us aside," Anakin warned him.
"No, she won't," said Frollo. "I spoke with her. She's given me permission to deal with the girl."
Meanwhile Danyal realized she was too late, and she started to feel despair and she asked, "Lord what do I do?! I don't know if I'm doing the right thing!"
Danyal started her way back and she noticed a parliament of magpies flying to her
She asked, "What are you-"
One magpie stated, "It's time that we punish the minister for his lies."
Danyal asked as tears were brimming in her eyes, "What can we do?! Nothing!"
She started to sob for her friends.
One magpie placed his wing over Danyal. "It's never too late to do what's right."
"But you said you'd only make things worse," Danyal cried. "And you're right. Because Frollo is so obsessed with Esmeralda and Emily, if he sees a flock of magpies, he'll likely blame them and say they used their witchcraft to conjure you."
Another magpie spoke up. "That's why we sent our comrades to the cathedral to seek help from the pigeons and doves that roost there. If the citizens see them instead of us, they won't support the execution."
Danyal stated, "Let's get to work and free the doves."
