UA Multiverse Peek
Chapter 42
Okay, time for this little tale. Or rather paths to new tales if I feel like following them. One's going to be a little awkward for it's start given the seriousness of how it all begins. But I hope you'll like a number of these ideas and one extension of an idea. On with the show.
(No POV)
Most of the audience was still mummering to themselves about what all of the previews from the last video were about. "So, we've got Midoriya training with some guy called Jackie Chan-Black. Then another where he's become….. even more badass than his normal self. And another where there's a bunch of people who can fly around with some machines on their legs?"
"Sounds about right Shitt- Kirishima. And from the look on Nezu's face, even he's stumped." Bakugo answered his somewhat friend while reclining in his seat. The mouse like principal nodded slightly before chuckling. "If I had more data I might be able to make some guesses. But those previews have just been teasing us! And it's quite exciting that way!"
Izuku was curious on what his counterparts were getting themselves into trouble with in these universes. "Not to mention how many of them are me getting dragged to another universe?" he thought aloud while thinking back on the final preview.
Pony and Melissa meanwhile were wondering what was going on with that universe that showed New York. "The strange devices aside, you didn't have your hooves. And it looked like an old Noir film." Melissa said in English while thinking about the cars and some of the styles shown.
"Yeah. It's almost like that world of monsters thing. But different. I wonder if I'll get some bigger role with all of it?" Pony responded in English as well. To the slight chagrin on her classmates who were still trying to learn the language and follow their conversation.
Itsuka, Rin, and Ojiro though were interested in the first universe shown. "Guy did seem to be an impressive martial artist from the little shown. I wonder if his quirk helps in that regard?" Ojiro considers and the countdown continues.
"I'm just kind of glad my homeland is getting some more representation. Even if arbitrary." Rin said while thinking about the fighting styles Chan-Black had been practicing. And his fellow 1-B student agreed and was considering adding the styles to her own repertoire. Settling in as the screen lights up with the first universe.
Magical Martial Arts Adventures
"Hmm… This is interesting," a woman says while looking at a screen in an impressive underground base. She is a bit older, her hair silver, but still possessing a bit of a build that said she could throw down. Even if she might throw something out. "Has anyone seen Jackie?" she asked with a light squint of her brown eyes. "Last I saw he was in the training room ma'am," an agent said while checking a different screen. One observing a few crimes in progress.
"Odd. Seems to be something of a law enforcement or similar group. But what do this have to do with Midoriya-san?" Nezu questioned. He wasn't the only one curious as the rest of the audience was befuddled as well. Though Melissa was quite interested in the various pieces of equipment seen in the base. Tetsutetsu and Kirishima meanwhile were nodding at the idea of whoever the agent they were going to follow was still training.
The woman sighed before heading towards the training room in question. "Jackie? Jackie Shilong Chan-Black! Where are you?!" she asked in some annoyance. "Up here Aunt Jade," she heard above her. Hanging from the ceiling was a young man with tan complexion, red hair, and green eyes. He was doing sit ups while hanging from a pipe.
While the hard heads and even a few others admitted that Chan-Black was "manly" based on how he was training, Rin was more wide eyed and smiling at the apparent name of the major character. "So, we have a Chinese fellow here. Good to see my home somewhat represented." Rin said while looking on intently.
Jade rolled her eyes before saying, "get down here! We have a mission for you." The man looks down again before gripping the pipe and flipping slightly off of it. Deftly hopping from a few other foot holds along the walls and some of the machines to land before his aunt.
The woman let out a groan before getting down to business. "There's been an odd report coming in from the Far East. Or rather Japan. Mustafa. A boy reported a few crimes that he shouldn't have known. And it's been proven he doesn't have a quirk."
"Manly again. Yeah but why do all of that? Why else; he wanted to really show what he could do! The skill and dexterity he showed while jumping down. To bad you don't have that skill, right Deku? I'm getting better!" a number of teen say and converse while watching the scene unfold.
Nezu meanwhile was curious about what the probable link could be to Izuku, and then pieced it together as Jade explained what the mission entailed. "I see. So we might be seeing another story like that." Nezu said with a smile growing on his face.
"Okay, is there anything else to suggest more to it?" Jackie asked with a raised eyebrow. His aunt leaned back before saying, "Menwa mentioned having the willies around the time this happened, and we noted something interesting with the boy. Take a look at the birth year." The agent hummed before seeing what his aunt was getting at and asking if he had a flight booked. At a nod, the agent was set to go to Mustafa Japan.
Heads were tilted to the side a few of the comments and confusion abounds. Most curious on what all of this could mean for Izuku and all of them. With Nezu putting a few of the last pieces together upon the discussion of birth years.
And to find Midoriya Izuku. Who himself was confused on however he knew about those crimes. "They keep telling me it's not a quirk, and yet I know something is off. But what is it?" the ten-year-old asked himself while on his way home.
Just as he was turning to go home, he heard a couple of people in an alley. A larger pair of thugs (one woman, one man, both taller than All Might) were intimidating a nervous family. All of them blonde and seemed to be quietly talking in French. Izuku gulped before taking out his phone and snapping a photo of the group. As well as calling the police.
Aizawa nodded and said, "good. Rather than a headlong rush that might not work and possibly get him killed, Midoriya went with using evidence and calling the police." Izuku blushed at that. Both because it was a compliment and a slight insult to his other selves where they rushed in to save someone with little forethought. Aoyama though was surprised to see himself and his family and thanked the other Midoriya for trying to help them.
As he announced that, the large woman turned back towards him with a snarl. Threatening to break the boy. "Not gonna happen bitch. You and your buddy are going down." Jackie says while walking up behind Izuku. He pushes the boy back slightly to keep him out of the range of the coming attack, his smile never wavering. "What do you think you can do huh?!" the woman shouts before throwing a punch the man's way. And Chan-Black easily flips over the attack and double kicks the woman in the face midair.
Upon seeing the move from the agent, a "manly" was shouted out by the hard heads and the martial artists fist pumped at the skill Jackie had shown. "He even used his opponent's attack against them. Just like a proper fighter should." Rin said with a big smile across his face. Aizawa agreed and considered trying to replicate the move himself when fighting larger foes.
This surprises everyone around as the woman falls to the ground before coughing. Spitting out a tooth after the kick. She roars, "YOU'RE DEAD!" before getting up to attack again. Jackie's smile doesn't fade though as he slips under her legs and into a handstand kick to the woman's knees. Making her fall slightly before striking a few points in her back and sides making her right arm go limp.
She takes another swing with her other arm but Jackie flips over that and kicks her in the side of the head. To finish the fight, the man teases the woman about her stature and her likely ego being wounded by a guy who wasn't even using powers. As she starts to stand and attack again, Jackie grabs a pair of trash can lids and chucks them at a few points in the alley. Making them bounce around and impact either side of her head. Disorienting her enough that she's at eye level with Jackie. Who takes her down with a solid punch to the villain's face.
The various fighters and martial artist cheer as Chan-Black keeps away from the villain. Some taking note of the use of pressure points again to disable an opponent. Shinso smiles as he hears the taunting the agent used to throw his opponent off balance. "Huh. He did kind of similar to what I do with my quirk. But his is without needing it." Nirengeki said as he watches the trash can lids bounce around alley. And the hardheads say, "manly again" as Jackie punches his foe in the face to finish the fight.
However, the man doesn't come away unscathed and he's shaking his hand after the impact. "Damn. Guess it figures that would hurt. Now then." Jackie says before keeping a close eye on the other villain. The heftier man growls before charging at the agent. Who grumbles before dodging again and again. Leaping from wall to wall and even causing the fire escape of one building to smack the villain in the face. But again, he can't dodge everything, and his foot gets caught. And is then promptly thrown into a wall. "Ow," is all he says as he pulls himself out but he's clearly hurting.
A few chuckles were had at Jackie's punch coming back to hurt him but faces got serious when the other villain decided to get involved. Though not without a laugh as he used the fire escape to smack his foe. "He got a bit too confident and look where that led him." Monoma comments after seeing the hero thrown into a wall.
He barely dodges in time before looking over to a couple on the street. One was carrying clearly large pipes for a project. So, the agent runs over to borrow them. "I'm sorry, I'll bring these back later, thank you!" he says while snatching a heavy pipe. And then using it to daze the other villain with a strong blow to the top of his opponent's head. While the man was dazed, Jackie bounced back slightly before trying to bring the pipe around for a blow to the stomach. But his aim is off, and he nails the villain in the crotch.
Ida lambasts the man for stealing another person's property. "Even in this dangerous situation, he should have used something else!" he shouts with a furious chop of his hands. Rin winces slightly before saying, "in this case, it might be… oooh! That'll hurt tomorrooo! Never mind. He's going to be feeling that for a week." As he was commenting, each of Jackie's attacks landed on the villain. Causing a mix of winces and blanche facing at the sight.
"Oops. My bad." Jackie says as the villain falls to the side. It is around this time that a few heroes and police arrive in response to Izuku's call. So Jackie takes the moment to return the pipe he borrowed. Or rather pay for a new one as the one he borrowed was badly dented.
As the villains were being led away, Izuku and the Aoyama family (as the agent and boy learned their names) were giving statements. "You did well in trying to scare the villains off slightly young man. But you should be more careful." Death Arms says with a pat to Izuku's shoulder.
"Well….. I suppose that is better." Ida comments with a nod. Momo chuckles before saying, "he did say he'd bring them back later." Izuku meanwhile was looking down and remembering the sludge villain incident and how he was lectured and Bakugo was praised. But in this case it was more praise for him so it lifted his spirits slightly.
"Now then. We need to address the vigilante here taking matters into his own hands." Kamui Woods says while looking at Jackie. Who gives him a raised eyebrow before asking, "and what was illegal in the way I dealt with those punks?" Death Arms and Kamui commended the man in helping those in need. "However, we can't abide people using their quirks illegally."
"5000 yen says this guy is going to point out that he doesn't have a quirk!" Kaminari comments and a few people take him up on the bet. Izuku doesn't but he has a counter to that bet. "I'm going with he'll say he's not illegal. After all, he's just a police officer or similar. So he doesn't have to have a license to fight criminals." Izuku says before shaking Kaminari's hand and a few others take his bet.
Jackie facepalms before bringing two things to light. "First, I'm not illegal in the way you are thinking. Here," he says before bringing out his badge. Though not his Section 13 badge. Instead, it was an Interpol badge for certain matters. Upon seeing his rank, several officers saluted and apologized to the man. Making Death Arms and Kamui blush at the fact a police officer saved someone before they did.
Izuku's smile widens before holding out a hand to collect some of the money a few had bet. With Bakugo himself grumbling at the fact. Mic and Midnight though grumble at the way their fellow heroes are reacting to being shown up by a cop. "I mean, it makes sense. We have kind of programed ourselves to think we're superior to them due to our use of quirks." Aizawa notes. Making him think back on the various problems brought up about quirks in other universes. And the implications for their world.
"Second, I don't have a quirk. I'm just a martial artist. A good one but still. Ow. Speaking of any chance someone's got a healing power? The guy threw me into a wall." Jackie said with a crack of his back. This dumbfounds the heroes again as an officer with a light healing power that helps to deal with some of Jackie's broken bones.
A few people winced, including Izuku, at that statement and Kaminari got a pretty good pay out. "I mean it's pretty common in a lot of these videos so far. At least a lot of the ones involving other versions of Midoriya." Kaminari said with a shrug. Nezu nodded and said, "indeed. And it often brings up many of the problems and similar to quirks. Rather than celebrating them or seeing them as a path to being a hero like most have believed."
Once the healing was done, Jackie took the moment to turn back and speak to Izuku. "I actually came here to talk with you kid. This uh, was not the way I wanted to meet you. Bit of a bad day," the agent said with a small wink. Izuku was confused and said he needed to meet with his parents. "That's fine. Frankly I needed to talk with them as well." Jackie said with a shrug.
Once back at Izuku's apartment, the agent could explain what brought him to Japan. Namely, Izuku having reported on a few incidents that he couldn't have known unless he was in the room or could read minds. "But they said I couldn't have read minds because they didn't pick up a quirk."
"Well they're correct. It's not a quirk. It's magic. A rather unusual one." Jackie said nonchalantly. Shocking the Midoriyas and starting a mumble spree of confusion for Izuku. Jackie clapped once before bringing the focus back to him. "This is quite a tale, so buckle up."
"And there is what I was expecting." Nezu said with a smile. Many of the others were surprised, but less so compared to other times this factor has been introduced. "How does it work though? Maybe some kind of thought projection? Dream reading? How about we shut up and just let it play!" the teens say as the agent begins his tale.
The man regaled the family of the tale of the Demon Sorcerers. Elemental beings that ruled various regions of the world in the ancient past. And how they had at one point were defeated by Eight Immortal warriors and sealed in the Netherrealm.
"However, one was clever and found a way to escape. Shendu. The draconic sorcerer of China and the embodiment of fire." To illustrate, Jackie took out a small stone, set it on the table and began chanting. After a few chants, an image of the monstrous beast was shown.
At the sight of the various demons, Eri hid herself away and the teens were shocked and a bit frightened by the story of the demons. Especially the visage of Shendu as Jackie chanted to illustrate what could exist in their world.
"Shendu gained even more power thanks to a special set of objects he created. The Twelve Talismans. Each one granting powers born from the twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac." Chan-Black explained as the insignias of each were shown.
Eyes continued to widen as the story continued. With Momo concluding that the other Izuku had one of the powers. "But which one and how does it relate to the Chinese zodiac?" she thought aloud. And she wasn't the only one contemplating this. Nezu himself wasn't certain, nor was Izuku, Ida, Juzo or anyone else. So, Bakugo just shouted, "let's stop thinking about it and just watch. He'll probably tell everyone what power Deku got.
He then noted that his family had been fighting against these evils for centuries. And had even stolen back the powers of the Talismans from Shendu and kept him sealed in the Netherrealm. "But thanks to the chaos of quirks, we lost the powers. Although technology and magic had a hand too." Jackie said with some annoyance.
Recounting that as quirks were awakening around the world, some had broken into the law enforcement agency he was truly a part of. Not only that, but a dangerous magic user and the technology at Section 13 was used on the Talismans. Destroying the objects being fought over.
Cheers were had at seeing the demon defeated by Chan-Black's family in the distant past. But their jubilation was cut short by the mention that quirks had caused the powers to fall into the wrong hands. Or they would have, if it weren't for the talismans being destroyed. "So, now these powers are in random humans? But why are they just showing up now? And what criteria could mumble mutter…." Izuku started before muttering incomprehensibly.
"Now normally, we assumed that the powers would go to the noble animals. However, that was not the case. In fact, we believe something new might have come into play." Jackie said before looking at Izuku. When he is questioned on what he means, Jackie brought up what Izuku had reported. Noting that there was a very real possible reason he could know those things. "I believe, you were astral projecting," the man said with a nod.
He brought out a data terminal and showed Izuku's birthday on it. Focusing on the year specifically. "It's been a little lost to time, but you see….. you were born in the year of the sheep. And the power of the Sheep Talisman, is astral projection." To help illustrate the man's point, Jackie quickly claps in front of Izuku's face. Causing the boy to faint.
Or so it seemed. In fact, he startled the boy so much that he unconsciously activated the power of the Sheep Talisman. Freaking out as he suddenly was separated from his body.
"So it was what I believed!" Reiko said with a small smile. Tokoyami frowned as he had though Izuku had a dream reading power from one of the talismans. Shock and surprise on his and everyone's faces as the other Izuku was startled into activating the power. Aizawa though started thinking about the factor Jackie had mentioned. "If the birth years are the key, and Midoriya is the sheep….. then that would mean that those older than him would be the ones to unlock the other powers," the man surmised while watching the events unfold.
Once he returned to his body, Izuku had one thing to say: "What the Hell was that?!" Jackie had a little laugh before apologizing for the scare. "But listen, the one who originally tried to steal the powers. They got away and they could return. And if the mages in my family felt the awakening of your power, chances are the dark mages have felt it as well," the agent's face growing more severe as he explained.
Worried looks were given to the screen as that was said. "He's got a target on his back or rather inside him." Shoto said with a narrowed gaze. All Might agreed and said, "indeed. I can imagine a number of people would like to have certain powers. Especially because these powers could act as amplifiers for quirks."
He then offered to have the Midoriya's moved to Section 13 for the time being. "Until we can either catch the one who would steal the powers or remove them from you, it would be best to stay close. And besides. What would you say to becoming a fighter like me kid?" Jackie said with a little gleam in his eyes. And the screen cuts to black.
Tetsu and Kirishima cried out before saying, "aw man! He teased us with a training montage but we don't get to see it!" Nezu and the teachers meanwhile complimented Jackie's pragmatism. "It's a little like how we brought the students to live on campus with the growing danger of the LOV." Mic said with a nod. All Might meanwhile was curious on what all the agent could teach Izuku. Those thoughts though were interrupted by the next story being shown.
Undefeated Saga
As Izuku started flying and impacted on a floating island, he and the man with him started thinking back on what led to the pair meeting. Namely, a sad day when the boy had basically been through too much.
(Izuku POV)
Useless. Wish things could be different. Weakling. Realistic. Was there ever a point to me being here in this world? A world where 80% of the population has superpowers. And I'm the dwindling minority that isn't born with a quirk. Despite both of my parents having quirks of their own.
"Again, I feel like all of us with quirks are being seen as monsters." Shoji says with a downtrodden look. Many of the other students agree and look to the side in shame. Melissa and Izuku rub the back of their necks and All Might seems sheepish. Nezu though brings up a point that most hadn't considered.
"I believe this is more about the fact we've focused too much on quirks. And not the individual. Even the terms in Japanese are far too degrading. Seeing the quirk as the "individuality" and those without as having "no individuality" or even "soulless". This is a problem I believe we all need to address. And take steps to realize our follies and arrogance."
And ever since I was a child, the only thing I dreamed of or hoped to become was a hero. To save people with an awesome power all my own. But I can't. Because I'm a genetic anomaly… oh who am I kidding. I'm basically a freak in our world. A thing that shouldn't exist anymore with how prominent quirks are.
The pangs of guilt grew even more as the other Izuku was thinking and crying. Bakugo himself feeling as though he was being stabbed over and over. Izuku himself having a few tears fall as he thought about the likely same day this happened. Shoji himself looked down and thought, 'sure we with mutant types are seen as monsters. But perhaps we aren't that different given the way plenty of people would treat those without quirks. Let alone what happens if someone loses their quirk or something related to it. We see them as weak or unable to do anything.'
I wanted to hold onto that dream with whatever hope I had left. Even as Kacchan and everyone around me said to give up. All of them berating me for wishing to be a hero even though I have no power of my own. And now…. The hero I and everyone idolized for years, All Might, the number one hero I met by chance….. he even told me that it wasn't possible to be a hero without a quirk.
All Might grit his teeth as he knew when this happened and what he had said to Izuku at the time. 'I wish I could have told him that he could be a hero on that rooftop. And I wish I hadn't felt so defeated thanks to this injury. That or maybe meeting him earlier and I could have helped young Midoriya grow even more before offering him OFA.' All Might thinks as the scene plays on.
"I'm sorry mom. But…. at least you won't have to worry or be burdened by me anymore." I'm scared while looking down from the building All Might and I talked. Though what else is left for me? Guess Kacchan was right. This is about the only way I can hope for a quirk.
That is enough for some and they either puke or start bawling their eyes out. Izuku, ironically, not being one of the ones to cry the most. With Bakugo being one of the ones to puke before taking a punch from Mina and Ochaco for his words and actions against their Izuku and what many other versions had likely done. 'Not like I don't deserve it,' he thought while wiping some of the bile from his lips.
As I let go of the railing, I'm not sure if it's a calm or something else I feel as gravity takes over. I'm still scared as I'm going down, but I also feel something like relief as it's happening. And a weightlessness… wait. That's wrong. And this is taking longer than I thought.
The tears fell harder, and some reached out for the screen as the other Izuku let go of the railing and went over the edge. Breaths of relief being let out seeing that someone was saving the sad scared young man.
"Easy there kid. I've got you. How about we talk for a moment before you get more drastic?" I hear behind me. I turn and see…. A man wearing all black clothing across his muscled physique and aviator sunglasses covering his eyes. Though he brings those up onto his slicked black hair as he starts flying me and himself up. And back onto the rooftop.
"Huh. He looks similar to the Svoboda character." Mic noted with a tilt of his head. Midnight agreed but said, "well, I think this version is a bit older. And he doesn't seem quite as bulky as that boy." Izuku meanwhile was recovering and was glad to see that someone could save his other self. 'And then later train me somehow to fly. Among other things?' Izuku thinks with some fascination.
I looked down dejectedly before crying some more about how I failed to even end my suffering. "Okay this is deeper than I initially thought. I meant what I said. Let's talk," he says again as I keep crying from everything that has happened today and for all the years since I was diagnosed.
I even got his name. Zenshou Muhai. Kinda weird but whatever. "I take it you weren't up here by choice. Or that you… well, let's just keep talking about you. And what's happened in your life."
Not sure how long we sat there on the rooftop, but I just started pouring everything out. My condition, what everyone had said or done to me for years, the last thing Kacchan had said before school let out. And then All Might's words to me. I'm not even sure why I'm saying all of this to him, but I just can't stop. And neither do the tears.
While a few complained about the impromptu counseling session happening in the other world, many were glad to see it. Though many felt like Izuku himself as some of their tears kept running down their cheeks as the other Izuku vented. With several comforting their Izuku after they noticed he didn't seem surprised by the things the other version said.
I hear a sniff and look up to see Muhai-san is crying too. "You've had to put up with too much. Especially when you are more human than everyone else down there. More human than me. But…. I think you need to hear this more than anything."
Most of the teens winced at Muhai saying Izuku was more human because he didn't have a quirk. But after a few of their experiences and what they had seen in a variety of other worlds, they couldn't completely disagree with his point. Shoji, Koda, Bondo, and Jurota feeling almost disgusted by said agreement.
He puts both of his hands on my shoulders and looks me in the eye before saying, "you are stronger than you think. And stronger than any of them will ever believe or understand." I can see it in his eyes. He's not just saying that. He really believes it as the tears start again and I grip onto his shirt as he hugs me. And a large amount of the pain I'd been holding onto starts to flow out.
Midnight wipes a few tears from her eyes before saying, "that is a damn good man right there. And no I'm not trying to eye bang him….. for once. I really do mean that. We could use more like him." Mic, Vlad, and Aizawa agreed while hoping that they could do similar for their own students if needed.
(No POV shift)
Not long after this, Izuku would meet with Muhai again and explain who he was. An alien wanderer from a faraway galaxy. And a planet called Voltissia He'd arrived on Earth a little before the quirk phenomenon had begun and tried to help those he could with his abilities. With flight, strength, speed, and other abilities far greater than even All Might.
"Oooh! An alien! Me likey!" Mina calls out after wiping her tears and blowing her nose. Kaminari snapped his fingers and Mineta asked what was wrong. "I should have put up a bet about this guy being an alien! We seen a lot of those so far!" Mineta gave him a flat look before saying, "remember what almost happened to your counterpart in that Italian story? You sure you want to keep making crazy bets?" This causes Kaminari to face fault and look to the side sheepishly.
It was also around this time that he detailed a factor Izuku was not aware of. Namely, that genetically he was closer to that of the Voltissian. Especially compared to anyone with a quirk as they had extra "junk" DNA themselves.
The calling of their quirks the result of "junk" DNA hurt the feelings of most of the audience. At the same time, they were more curious about how Izuku not having a quirk could lead him to something more. Melissa and Izuku most of all. 'Is it like the true meta thing? Where I have more potential deep down that isn't really related to genetics?' Izuku questioned to himself as the video continued.
"Meaning, it's very possible that you could unlock the potential of a Voltissian like myself." Muhai explained to the boy. To do that though, the man needed to bring Izuku somewhere he was uneasy about. His home world of Voltissia. But after seeing the conviction in Izuku's eyes, the man was willing to open a portal back to his world. And discovered that Izuku did have the potential to become empowered by his home. The boy floating in the air not long after he'd arrived.
Spit takes were fired at seeing the alien man create a portal to another world but not as violently as previous instances. And a few more were fired as the other Izuku had started floating without trying to. "Huh. That's wild. Wonder what it would do to any of us?" Mirio questioned while recovering from his spit take.
But he didn't have control of his new abilities yet. "Nor any of the density of a Voltissian. That might just take time." Muhai said to himself as he was gently pulling the boy out of the island he'd impacted. Setting him down on some stones to reset any broken bones. "Well, he can only go up from here." Muhai said as the screen faded to black.
Ochaco chuckled before saying, "I guess that could be something of a story of your life Deku." Before realizing that what she said was a little insensitive and apologized. "It's…. mostly okay Uraraka. I know what you mean. It seems like he's going to be building me up in that universe." Izuku said before the next image burst onto the screen.
Witches and Warlock Heroes
Izuku was gently pulling Pony along as the two of them and Hatsume Mei were walking through New York City. But not one they had seen on the news. "This city looks like it should be the 1930s or 40s!" Pony said while wincing at the pain in her feet. Mostly because she no longer had her hooves or horns.
"Hm. Interesting. We have another loss of quirks story here." Nezu says with a scratch of his chin. Pony meanwhile was curious about how she, Izuku and Mei ended up there. "And what were those engine thingies at the end of the last video?" she questioned aloud.
Mei herself no longer had eyes that let her zoom in on points and Izuku could no longer feel the presence of his own quirk. "What is going on?" Izuku thought aloud while looking up at a sign. One showing a young woman wearing engine like structures on her legs. Noting about signing up or joining the war effort and hopes that more "witches" would join.
Nezu's intrigue continued to be peeked as the video continued. Questioning who the Americans were fighting in this war. 'My first assumption would be well... Japan among others. And that could be a problem for the children,' he thought with a narrowed gaze.
Everyone else though was curious about the matter involving the witches themselves. With Mineta taking note of one very important detail. "Hey! She's not wearing a skirt! Just pantiesssdf," he said before his nose started bleeding again (still hadn't recovered after the Nemuri Rabbit bits). All of the girls did a double take and realized he was correct. The witch on the billboard did not have pants, a skirt, or anything other than her uniform top and panties on. Causing them all to blush.
This puzzled the teens again as they thought back on some of what led to the moment. Namely, a strange circle of light appearing beneath the feet of a number of teens during a special exercise. Mei herself having been a part of it to act as simulated tech support in a mock disaster at the USJ.
"Ah I see. A decent reason to have a few others outside of the hero class show up." All Might says with a nod. Melissa herself noting that she had done similar things at I Academy to help the hero course. "The weird circles are a big part of the problem though. Why did they show up?" Momo asked and her fellow students wondered the same.
Suddenly the light engulfed all of them and they awoke in this strange land. "So, they call this country the United States of Liberion? And there's some war happening on the other side of the world?" Izuku asked Pony while resting her feet and gathering themselves. The girl nodded and said, "yeah. They also seem to speak and understand a lot more languages compared to ours. Like that donut vendor over there started speaking perfect Japanese! I still can't speak that."
Pony blushed and pouted hearing that. Saying, "seriously?! They don't have any problem and I still missay things!" Itsuka chuckled before saying, "it doesn't help that Monoma tries to teach you the wrong types of words to say."
While the blonde boy was grumbling, the teachers were contemplating the name of this other world version of the USA was. "And what is different in that world besides these witches?" Mic thought aloud while feeling the urge to talk like an old fashioned radio reporter.
The girl was pouting at this while Izuku let out a sigh. Suddenly, said donut vendor caught their attention. "Hey there little missy. Your feet are looking pretty rough. Guessing you lost your shoes, right?" Pony blushed and looked down while bringing up her feet. He man gave a big laugh before telling his son Ryan to take a little money and pick up some sturdy shoes at a shop nearby.
"Oh well that's nice. Yeah. Doesn't look like they have much though. And yet this guy is still willing to help some random girl out on the street. Those donuts look good too. I'm more surprised that this guy doesn't have a problem with them being Japanese. Wasn't that a big deal back during these times?" were some of the comments tossed around as the scene played out.
Pony tries to say he didn't need to do that, but the man wouldn't have it. "We should be helping each other out in these times. I know that's why my girl Joe left." The teens look up at him at that before Pony asked what he meant. "My daughter is a witch. And they're the best hope we've got for beating the Neuroi. Not like it'll be easy though. Damn aliens have taken over most of Europe, half of Asia, parts of Africa and a bunch of those islands south of Fuso."
Upon hearing that the enemy humanity was facing were aliens, spit takes were fired again and now it was Mina's turn to pout. "Guess it figures that we get evil aliens after the nice one." Sero joked while getting a glare from Mina. Nezu though starts to piece together some of possibilities that could come with this story. Including how the salesman described the areas taken by the Neuroi. "Hm… perhaps they took the place of the Axis?" he thought aloud but still quietly.
When Ryan returned with the shoes, Pony was still blushing but thanked the boy all the same. The shoes weren't perfect, but they'd keep Pony's feet from getting cut or similar. "Huh. Not sure about the ladies given they might have magic potential, but I might have an idea for you son if you want to help the war effort. And make a bit of money," the vendor said while looking to Izuku.
He noted that there were plenty of scrapyards and the like that would be needing able bodies. "You can't really help out in the war otherwise after all. Not until you're 18." This statement makes Izuku freeze slightly. But he passed it off before thanking the man and looking down sadly. Asking where the yards in question were.
The Izuku watching freezes at that statement as well while looking down. Pony and Ochaco though did try to bring him up a bit. The former saying, "he did say that only girls had the magic. So, it's not just you. All of the guys can't." Ochaco meanwhile said, "you might not be able to help right away, but maybe you could analyze these Neuroi things and help us!" Izuku winces and smiles at the attempts to help before focusing back on the story.
He looked at the girls and asked if they wanted to see what they could do, but neither of them seemed ready to leave Izuku's side. "Things are weird as is Midoriya. It's probably better we stick together." Mei said without her usual smile. With that, the group headed up north towards a place mentioned that was breaking down even old "strikers".
The contemplative types hum at this before Tsuyu says, "I think strikers are those things the witches wear on their legs. But I wonder how they work?" Most agreed with Momo questioning what they would be fueled by and how it would help in battle. "Not to mention what these Neuroi things are." Sato says with a rub of his head.
Once there, the group noticed there was no one really working in the yard. The sign out front said they were open, but no one was there to meet them. The group made their way in and looked around at all the old hardware and cars that were either half taken apart or not even really scrapped. They suddenly heard a crash, sparks flying, and what sounded like a small explosion happening in a hanger.
"Oh, I think I realized why Hatsume may be in this universe. She's just as prone to explosions." Ida says with an annoyed blue shade over his eyes. Izuku and Ochaco chuckled while noting that he had a point. "But this time it wasn't an explosion she caused." Izuku defended.
They ran over and saw a boy, possibly a year younger than Izuku and the rest, coughing and using a fire extinguisher on some sort of machine. "Great. Another failure," he said before turning to address the group at his door. He was of African descent based upon his skin tone and hair. He sighed before asking if they were there to drop off scrap or something else.
A chorus of "huhs" were said upon seeing the boy as he dismissed the counterparts. "Why's a kid just working in a scrapyard?" Awase questioned with some suspicion. "It wasn't uncommon in those times for children to bring metal to these types of places for pay or bonds. This wasn't long after the Great Depression after all." All Might explained while buffed up.
"Wow! Thise baby looks awesome!" Mei shouted before running up to the machine in question. It looked a bit like a robot or some kind of armor possibly. The boy grumbled before asking who they were. "Uh sorry. She really likes machines. Can build some impressive ones if given materials and opportunities." Izuku says before introducing himself and the others with him.
The boy just says his name is Eddy Davis. "Now are you here to buy scrap or something else?" he says tersely. Pony shakes her head before saying they wanted to work. "And maybe learn more about what's going on in Europe?" Eddy looked at her funny and was about to ask how she didn't know about the Neuroi War, when Mei interrupted with ideas on ways to improve his armor.
A few laughed at the way the other Mei started coming up with ideas the second she saw what the boy was working on. "It does look cool though. Probably doesn't work though. Yeah the technology might not be capable of the same things ours can," a few of the teens note while looking on. Hearing the name of the boy though puts a small smile on All Might's face. Thinking of a historic group from that era and wondering if this boy had something to do with it.
Eddy was wide eyed at all of Mei's ideas and suggestions and asked if she really could help him improve his machine. "Well I'm not sure what its for, but it does look like it could use a bit of love to finish fixing it! And I know just how to do it!" Mei says before looking for some tools to get started.
The other two in the room were unsure about their situation. At least until a man came in. He was obviously Eddy's brother and suggested that they could help him with some of the scrap. Gesturing with his stump of an arm and introducing himself as Oliver.
The laughs at Mei's enthusiasm continued while also being curious about what she could do with the machine they all saw the boy working on. Upon introduction to Oliver though, most gasped at seeing the stump of an arm he had.
Upon seeing their wide-eyed reactions to his arm, Oliver gave a slight chuckle. "Yeah. Lost it during the war. I came out better than most infantry men against the Neuroi and their beams though. Let alone what happened to Benjy." Oliver looked down at that. Something Izuku caught on and questioned between moving metal around the yard.
Nezu fired out a spit take upon hearing the term "beam" as the weapon of the Neuroi. "*cough!* I suppose I should have suspected, but still. To think these people are fighting alien monsters with World War II era tech and their enemies have beam weapons!" Nezu says while a smile grows on his face. All Might meanwhile caught the name that Oliver mentioned and lowered his head in respect.
The man sighed before noting that their only sister had been a witch. "She signed up to fight when she was thirteen and her magic and familiar came in. I had already signed up myself so I was hoping we'd both come out okay. Maybe me being put in the back and far away from the miasma though things let out, and her not having potential. Turned out she did have a lot of potential and I was needed on the frontlines."
He described his sister as possessing an "inherent magic" that granted her eyes to see the weaknesses of the Neuroi. Their cores and other weak points. Not to mention having the capability to see things happening in slow motion. "Didn't stop her from getting shot down over Pas de Calais though." Oliver said while looking at one of the engine units that was sitting in a kind of shrine or memorial. With a picture of Benjamina Davis above the units.
Upon seeing the size of some of the Neuroi, the hearts of most of the teens dropped. "I couldn't handle some of those even with my quirk. I might even die before I could get close to attack. I wonder if my flames would do much? I know I'd be stuck blasting from way back myself. My navel laser might do some serious damage! Though I doubt I'd have it there. Those things don't even look like they have genders, let alone breathing. Hard to say if a full powered shout would do much to them." All of the heroes contemplate what they could possibly do to the alien threat, but a number of them just say that even with their quirks they'd have no chance against the invaders.
Focusing back on the heroic sister of the brothers though, the teens were impressed by the young girl's skills in flight with her unit and her accuracy as she battled the monsters and protected those who were retreating. All Might and Pony standing to salute the girl as she was bombarded by beams while holding up a shield to guard evacuation ships.
Izuku and Pony teared up hearing the whole story and what both brothers were left with in the wake of the injuries and death. "Mom had invested in this scrapyard before she died, so we were given the place to run. Business would be better if Eddy wouldn't keep putting scrap and money into that project of his." Oliver said with a sigh.
"He might be trying to find a way to help the witches in the field." Aizawa said while looking at the boy. Remembering how he pushed himself a bit harder after the death of his best friend. And Mic was much the same for a time.
Mei had also asked what the armor was over the days working with the boy on his project. Both noting that the machine was a way to try and improve the survival rates of anyone on the battlefield. "A normal pilot has a one in one hundred chance of surviving. And it's just as bad or worse for infantry. So, I want to try and bridge some of the gaps for average soldiers compared to witches with this. If we can get the magic circuit working and a power source maybe it would work. Your ideas have been a big help with that Mei." Eddy said after the teens had been living and working at the scrapyard for a week.
Aizawa, Mic, and Midnight nodded and respected how the boy was grieving in his own way. "Hm. I wonder if this tech could be useful outside of war. Like imagine making a suit to help with construction or disaster relief." Izuku noted upon seeing the refined version of the armor. Most of the teens though went white at the survival rates for the soldiers against the Neuroi in that world. "What could those monsters even be after?" Bondo wondered aloud and a few others mirrored his question.
The invention nut gave him a big smile and said she was glad to help. With her help, the armor was slimmed down without compromising the structure and strength of the unit. At the same time, she was able to make better power transfer cables to stabilize output in the machine. With Izuku being used as a guinea pig to see if it would actually move and operate. And only getting a few….. dozen shocks that left his hair sticking out straight for a day.
Laughs from Bakugo and a few other guys were had as images were shown of Izuku testing out the armor Mei had built. "Guess you end up on the wrong end with her machines more than ever Midoriya." Ida said with a pity filled pat on Izuku's shoulder. With the boy himself groaning at what his counterpart had to go through.
The big issue though was that the machine still needed a generator or similar power source. And Mei couldn't make anything from their world to bridge the gap and make it more functional. "The hardware in this world is….. it's advanced in a weird way and not one I can make sense of." Mei explained to Izuku and Pony while the group were relaxing in their rooms after a day of work.
She mentioned that the world was over three hundred years in the past from what she knew, so she couldn't just make any of the energy cells or similar batteries that could power impressive tech in their old world. "At the same time, even if I could I don't know how long or well they'd last in prolonged combat."
"That does make sense. After all, power cells and other batteries from our world work very differently. And a number of them even use elements that are hard to replicate. Especially with the limited technology there." Nezu analyzes as the other Mei describes the problems. "So then how do those witches operate their strikers?" Toru asked with some confusion. Momo contemplated a moment before saying, "maybe it has to do with their magic? They transfer their power to the machine somehow and it lets it operate like an engine on a normal plane?"
A strange breakthrough though would occur in the strangest way. A knock was heard at the window to Eddy's workshop. He went over and saw that a bald eagle was flying just outside. "Again? Why do you keep coming back? It's not like the stuff I give you is that good," the boy said before getting a few slices of ham from an ice box he had in the shop.
Pony smiled at seeing the animal that represented her nation and saluted it. Koda though found the animal's behavior strange. "A raptor like that one would avoid contact with humans. Let alone actually know to knock on a window to be let in. What's going on?" he asked with a tilt of his rocky head.
At the same time, Izuku and Pony had noticed some strange animals that didn't seem to be afraid of all the noises coming from the scrapyard. Pony noticing, of all things, a Clydesdale horse that seemed a bit wild and yet curious. Izuku meanwhile had seen a very quick animal running around the bushes and trees.
"Wonder if it'll be a rabbit? I mean it would make sense for Deku, with what his first costume looked like. It wasn't supposed to be rabbit ears! Those big horses aren't ones that normally roam wild right? No, and at this point in history they would be a type that isn't used too often. Because more people used machines rather than animals right? Wonder what this all has to do with the group at the scrapyard."
After two weeks working (and getting Izuku some medical attention after a few failures) the armor was mostly ready for greater testing. "The problem is, we still can't make or have a decent power supply for this thing." Eddy complained while kicking the toe of the machine. Mei scratched her head and agreed. "Too bad we don't have some magic to work with. That supposed to be a major supply of power, right?" Mei noted with a look to the men.
Momo nodded and Nezu complemented the girl on the forethought. "I do have to wonder how they know when a young lady is a witch though." Nezu questioned with a sip of his tea. Midnight wonders the same and also questioned what the other rules pertaining to the magic of the witches are. "I mean, if they have all this power and potential, shouldn't they be running more things?" she said while leaning back slightly.
Aizawa and surprisingly Kaminari bring up some points though. "It could be that those women with magic potential are fairly rare. Like what quirkle….. I mean like when it comes to quirks back in the day." Aizawa says with a cough and looking away from Izuku and Melissa. Kaminari then says, "maybe they have a time limit or something like a burnout." He explained by using his quirk as an example. How it would short out his brain if he used too much power. "Not to mention possibly damaging my body. Maybe the witches have a similar drawback in that they run out of magic eventually with too much use," he explained with a shrug.
Jiro and many others were surprised by his insight before Nezu chuckled and complimented the boy. "I believe that might be the case as well. From the few images seen, none of the women seem to be over twenty years of age. Meaning, a witch has a limited life span. Let alone the possibility of dying." Midnight and a number of the girls gulped at that and were worried for their counterparts. Especially if they had magic.
Oliver nodded while getting used to the new limb Eddy and Mei had made for him. "Yeah. Most witches do exhaust their power by the time they turn twenty, but a familiar and witch's power can do a lot of things." Before any more talks could be had though, the knocking on the window was heard again. With Eddy grumbling once more at the eagle's arrival. It flying in and landed on his outstretched arm.
Kaminari lit up at hearing Oliver confirmed his suspicion while most of the other teen's had their jaws on the ground. Melissa and Izuku though were glad to see that the man had gotten a new limb thanks to Mei's engineering skill. But everyone was curious to see what would happen with the eagle and what significance it had.
"Uh….. Eddy? What or who are you talking to?" Oliver asked in confusion. Mei also seemed confused by her partner's actions. He looked at the pair in confusion, as did Pony and Izuku. "You two don't see the impressive bald eagle on his arm?" Pony asked with some surprise. A surprise Izuku mirrored.
Eyes were a bit wide at hearing Oliver's question and Nezu himself started spilling his tea over the sides of his mouth. Before cackling at a high pitch and choking on the tea he was drinking. Izuku and the others didn't understand what was going on and asked the principal to explain. "You ha.. hahahdaha. You shall see soon enough." Nezu said while catching his breath.
The stunned looks from Mei and Oliver told the pair they couldn't, and Eddy was just as confused. Suddenly, the eagle took off from the boy's arm and flew at his armor. The systems within lit up and power flowed through the suit. Coming from the back were a pair of impressive wings and a flash of yellow covering the helmet section as the back opened. Eddy was slack jawed at all of this as he slowly stepped forward. Slipping into the machine as it started showing more things to him. Including how to fly.
Spit takes created a rainbow in the room and a few were coughing up the snacks they started as the eagle took flight in the armor with the boy in it. Nejire lighting up and wishing she could fly with the pair as well. Nezu nodded and was happy to see he was correct in his theory. Momo and many of the girls were slack jawed at seeing this. "Maybe it's not just girls anymore that can use magic." Itsuka numbly muttered.
As the boy rocketed out of the workshop, the rest at the scrapyard followed. And then two more beasts appeared. The Clydesdale suddenly started running at Pony and just as it was about to run her over, it disappeared. Leaving her with a new tail from her backside and horse ears from her head. Izuku meanwhile was knocked to the ground by a creature that surprised him. It looked like a Hokaido wolf as it sat on his chest. Cocking it's head back and forth a few times.
Pony choked once more as the horse charged her counterpart and then suddenly became a part of her. While also seemingly buffing her body up. 'Maybe it's because of the breed? Still.' Pony thought while looking down at her own arms. "Aw really? I thought for sure it'd be a rabbit! Why does that bastard get a badass wolf for a partner!? It was so fast! Think he'll get some superspeed while in the armor?" a number of teens commented. Izuku meanwhile was excited at the idea he could have the power to save possibly thousands of people in another world.
And after Eddy had returned to the ground, the eagle left the machine and the wolf jumped in. With Izuku being beckoned to step in. And he suddenly had a speed he could only compare to when he would use his quirk. Not to mention dexterity and strength increases. Pony meanwhile discovered that she had greater strength than before. Oliver offhandedly commenting that she could probably handle the biggest ordnance in the military by herself.
A whistle was let out at seeing Pony lift a pair of tractors by herself in the other world. And only looking slightly strained in the effort before tossing them aside. "Damn. Now she's looking a bit like All Might's kid. With the way that horse built up her arms!" Mineta commented while looking at the somewhat ripped form of Pony on the screen. Making the version he was near blush before shooting a pair of horns at him.
This set of successes would shake up the world and start a new hope for those under the threat of the Neuroi. With the various hero students of UA being able to become heroes and help liberate the regions taken by the alien invaders. As the screen cut to black one last time.
"Quite the interesting turn of events there. It could be that you all were brought to that world to help them in the midst of the greater crisis on their Earth. And I hope you would protect it as if it were your own." Nezu says with a nod towards the screen.
All of the girls smile and acknowledge that they would and do their school proud with their efforts. Most of the boys though were uneasy as they wouldn't be allowed to do anything given only those with magic at their age would have a chance. "Hey, it could be that any of us who get pulled there could become like Midoriya. So, we'd have a chance." Mineta noted after coming back from dodging Pony's attack.
Before anyone could comment, the screen showed Roger and Shorty again before the fifteen minute timer was brought up once more. Giving everyone time to take a break before the next series of videoes.
So this was long. And yeah, I decided to use the Tuskegee Airmen and later Air Force general Benjamin O Davis as the girl who died. I didn't have much luck finding his sisters' names so I just made some up. Anyway, the last and first ones are possible stories I could do at some point. While the middle is one that is already up. Undefeated Saga in a Quirky World. It's on AO3 only though. Hopefully, you all enjoy this set of tales. Please review!
