I managed to get back in my Outrunner without any trouble from bullymongs or psychos jumping from behind. I hopped back in my vehicle with the power core on my lap. On the way back to Sanctuary, Handsome Jack made an echo announcement.

"This is a message to Sanctuary, 'the last stronghold of the resistance.' Pandora as you knew it - the chaos, the bandits - that time has passed. If you let it, this could be an era of order, of peace! Just turn yourselves in, and I promise: your deaths will be quick."

Then Handsome Jack called me.

" Hey, y'like my speech?"

"It sucks."

"Well, I was lying about the last part. I'm going to torture all of you bandits so long and son difference ways that I'm even considering publishing a book about it."

"Have you ever considered that you're the villain?"

"No, I'm the hero of the story, and you're just some weird pigtail girl with a stupid death machine who I'm going to enjoy torturing because, ah, I shouldn't say anymore. I've got a little secret that I, uh - you know what? You don't need to hear it. It'll probably just confuse ya. Ciao!"

A secret? That can't be good; whatever plan that ego manic has, I have to look out for and try to find that secret. In the meantime, I got a power core to deliver.

I drove back to Sanctuary and got to the intercom, but Lt. Davis came on the intercom.

"Roland, is that you?! Oh, it's the Vault Hunter, get in quick!"

"What's wrong? What happened to Roland?"

"Roland's ECHO communicator went dead; we need your help."

Ah, great, I can't relax for one moment. The gate opened, and I returned to the outrunner and drove into Sanctuary.

Then Handsome Jack echoed me, "Made it to Banditville, huh? Well done! It'll be nice to see a friendly face when I'm burning that place to the ground. Oh, and I have decided that I will tell you my secret later on. Once you've earned it." And he was gone.

How did he know I was Sanctuary? He must have something watching me. Creepy.

I stopped the outrunner when I saw someone in crimson lance armor waving at me from a small building. I ran over with the power core. This must be Lt. Davis.

"You're the one Commander Roland was talkin' about. The one who faced Jack and lived?" said Lt. Davis.

"Yeah that's me," I said

"Look, we need your help, bad, but first thing's first - plug that power core into the shield generator."

I took out the old power core and replaced it with the new one. I looked up to a shield above Sanctuary.

"Good. That oughtta last us a day or two. Roland was supposed to bring us some intel on how to stop Jack—with him missing, we really need your help. Talk to Private Jessup at the gate; he'll let you into the city." then shouted. "JESSUP! Stand up straight. We got a Vault Hunter headed your way!"

I was walking over to Sanctuary when I heard Lt. Davis shout.

"Hyperion moonshot blitz."

I saw the Hyperion moon space station start firing shots at Sanctuary, but the shield blocked the shots. I sighed for relief and went to the gate, where Pvt. Jessup waited for me.

"Commander Roland never came back from his secret reconnaissance mission. He left very specific orders for this contingency, which you can help carry out."

"Which is?"

"Not sure but the town mechanic knows it. Go meet with him."

"Roger."

"Let me get the gate for you."

Angel must have heard about Roland's disappearance and said, " I mean, uh... darn. Roland needs your help. Without you, the Crimson Raiders don't stand a chance against Jack. Please find out where Roland's gone."

"Don't worry Angel I got this."

Pvt. Jessup opened the gate of Sanctuary, and I set foot in the town. I looked around to see regular people walking around the town, with some crimson raider guards keeping watch. But I did see old Dahl signs and Dahl products.

I asked Angel if she was still listening, "Hey Angel, what is this town?"

" Sanctuary. Built on the ruins of the Dahl corporation's finest interplanetary mining ship, now the last refuge for thieves, murderers and outcasts. Welcome home."

"How comforting."

I spotted the mechanic shop and walked to see a man in dirty green clothing and a trucker hat with a large woman symbol on it. He was sitting in a chair with his feet kicked up on a bunch of tires, trying to sleep until I walked in.

"Oh, crap, is you Hyperion? I heard all of you are robots and you eat metal out of the garbage and stuff."

What?

"Knew you wired death machines would be coming for me once Roland went missing. Now, if you're here to kill me."

Huh?

He jumped up on the tires, "You'll never take me alive, you robotic sumbitch." He waved his wrench around

"Um, I'm not a Hyperion robot, and are you Scooter?"

I think Scooter realized that, "Wait a minute! Ha! Well, hang me upside down from a telephone pole, cover me in honey, and leave me to a slow death at the hands of hungry spiderants. you're a Vault Hunter, huh?! That's like a unicorn!"

"That's an oddly nice complaint, I guess."

"I thought you would be much taller and spiked leather."

"Spiked leather?"

"Ah, just some rumors. Anyway Now, you gon' help us out with this Roland situation? I heard them Crimson Raider dudes talkin' about it. Roland told me if he ever disappeared, I was supposed to initiate Plan B - or, as I like to call it."

"What's Plan B?"

"Turn-this-city-into-a-floatin'-ass-fortress-of-airborne-awesomeness, ha-ha! B. I got some fuel cells around here."

A floating city? This I got to see.

I looked around Scooter's place for fuel cells and found one under a couple of tools and the other in a pile of old tires. I returned to Scooter with them.

"Great Well, let's head to the center a' town and plug those two fuel cells into the ignition primers. You gon' need a third, here is this cool rock called Eridium."

He handed me the Eridium, a glowing rock that looked like a gold bar.

"What is this?"

"Not sure, but it's worth a lot, and there is a guy in town who has the third fuel cell. His name is Earl, and he is crazy; one time, I saw him eat a car. The whole thing with a fork and nothing else."

Alright, I'll just get a fuel cell from a guy named Crazy Earl, who ate a car. This is my life now. I headed to Crazy Earl's shop; there was no door knob. I knocked on the door, and the door slit open to where I could see Earl's eyes. Even his eyes, I can tell he was crazy.

"Whatchu want?"

"I'm here to buy a power cell."

"Got any of Eridium?"

"Yeah I got some here." I pulled out the Eridium

"Great, I'll even throw in this junk with the fuel cell."

Another slot opens in the middle of the door, and I put the Eridium through. Earl put through the fuel cell and a strange Bandit pistol.

"Now scram missy."

That went better than I thought. I headed back to the center of town, and I installed the first fuel cell. Then Handsome Jack got on the Echo.

"Bandits of Sanctuary: I hear a new Vault Hunter has arrived in your city. So just turn 'em in to me, and you'll be rewarded."

Pvt. Jessup, call me up. "Jessup: Don't worry. Nobody's going to turn you in. You're our only hope of stopping Jack."

"Yeah, he's right he really wanted to meet ya. Raiders ain't gonna last without some new blood, and given how you shot them bandits up. You're the extra blood bag Roland. Shame he really wanted to meet you."

I put the two fuel cells into the center of the town, and Scooter was at the council.

"Fucking A let's see if this works Now, to see the fruits of your loins - this city's gonna FLY!"

I was excited as I felt the city was starting to lifted off the ground until it slammed back into the ground.

"I guess it didn't work."

"Ah shit, we're really into deep crap. I think Roland left ya a message in the raider HQ. Maybe it'll help with finding Roland."

Let's just hope because right now Sanctuary might need a new name.
