In the early 20th century, a strange virus swept through the world, transforming various vertebrate species into the Moreau. From then to the modern day, mankind lived in relative harmony with these strange new beast men, the descendants of those infected by the so-called "Moreau Virus". However, in modern times, in the city of Etterton, a mysterious organization has been supplying local criminals with strange items known as "Gene Keys", transforming them into monstrous creatures known as Twisters. Mercifully, with the aid of Deox Inc, a group of soldiers have been created to defend the city from these monsters: the DN-Geneers. And now, with the arrival of two new recruits, the battle against the Twisters and the mysterious benefactor is about to take a wild turn. This is the story of DN-Gen Helix

Malpractice

Ollie was rushing around the kitchen of the house he and Gos Ivy shared as he endeavored to put together a proper snack plate for his boss who had just shown up. Issac was in his usual casual attire and said, "Its ok Ollie, you really don't need to do this." Ollie didn't stop and so Issac turned to Gos and said, "Since Ollie is clearly not hearing me, just let him know that both of you have to get some physicals at Etterton Hospital before you can really start work. It's a standard business practice apparently, I don't really handle that part of things." He put some papers on the coffee table and left, just as Ollie came out with a decent spread of snacks and some coffee. Gos Ivy didn't really react beyond looking at his partner, primarily because he didn't know how to react.

Etterton Hospital was a rather standard building for a hospital, a big campus full of things to treat every type of injury and had a surprisingly good cafeteria that strangely did not translate into reliably good food for the patient dining services, all that stuff. Ollie had spent a great deal of time in hospitals during the transition period so he expertly guided Gos around the campus to where they were meant to go for their physicals.

As they walked through the halls Gos noticed something strange. Namely that a Candiru doctor was carrying his stuff with him in a box. The doctor was muttering to himself, "Twenty years of loyal service and they fire me like it was nothing. And for what? Convincing people to get lipo? Everybody wants to be thinner. They haven't heard the last of Lyman Kreech."

Gos was interested in this man, and said, "Hey, good luck with your new phase of life." Lyman was confused and annoyed by Gos and walked away grumbling about young people. Ollie grabbed Gos and dragged him away to the physicals.

As Kreech muttered dark things, he started to make plans to get vengeance upon the ingrates that dared to fire him after such a long portion of his life devoted to their institution. It was then that an opportunity practically fell into his lap. For suddenly in front of him was a man wearing armor that mixed elements of a futuristic mercenary with dinosaur elements. Lyman Kreech wasn't in the mood to handle any weirdos, he just barely resisted snapping at that mouse.

Instead he said, "Out of the way, unless you have a way for me to get my vengeance than I don't want to hear it." The figure chuckled and said, "It just so happens I am here to give you the means to get just that." He held up an orange key thing with the word "Fire" written on it. Kreech's eyes widened and he asked, "Is that what I think it is?" DN-Gen Lazarus, for it could be no one else, nodded and flung to key to the former doctor. The doc caught it and, after putting his stuff down, inserted it into his chest and turned it.

After a whirlwind of fire, the Wicking Pishtaco stood before Lazarus. The upper body of the twister resembled a melted candle with a large sack growing from its back. Its arms had built in flame throwers, from its face game whiskers in the form of a pair of wicks and a long stinger tail that seemed ready to strike. Lazarus looked at its legs and muttered, "Huh, I expected spider legs or something."

Then louder Lazarus said, "now go and achieve your vengeance." The Twister cackled madly and yelled, "No worry there! They will regret the day they stepped on Lyman Kreech!"

Ollie and Gos's physicals went by without any true eventfulness, and soon they were waiting in the waiting room for the results. It was in the waiting room that they saw Sam, it was unusual to see the Irish Settler Moreau without the hyperkinetic rabbity thing that was Max and Gos could not help himself. He walked over and said, "Hi Sam! Where's Max?"

Sam chuckled and said, "Hey Gos, it's been, what, four hours since we last met?" Ollie came over and nodded. For the question, Sam sighed and said, "Max ate the bathtub again." Ollie blinked slightly then said, "If we were talking about literally anyone else I'd think you were joking." Sam nodded and replied, "My husband is high maintenance to say the least. And if you don't expect the completely unexpected and take every possibility into account when dealing with him, well." It was at that moment that a man wearing doctor scrubs ran out screaming like a madman. Sam pointed to the newly insane person and said, "That will happen."

Sam got up and it he picked up a nearby dog crate and said, "Welp, time to get Max into his carrying crate. See you later guys." Sam walked off and from the distance Sam said, "Come on Max, spit out that nurse. You don't know where she's been." A yowling more appropriate from a feral cat than a lagomorph was heard and Sam said, "Oh stop it, you love the pet carrier." Crashing and banging was heard and Sam yelled, "What are you gonna do with that potato!" Hideous yells of pain emitted from one of the medical professionals held hostage by Max. Never was Ollie so grateful to be called to the reception desk than he was at that moment.

Deep in Etterton hospital lay a room containing everything removed from patients, from organs to fat. The reasons varied as to why they were kept here, and they were all kept separate to avoid things like bio-contamination. It was in this room that the Wicking Pishtaco was stealing fat for ammo; instinctively knowing that his flamethrowers required fat to fire, and so he was taking it from here

One might wonder why the Wickling Pishtaco was stealing the fat from these storage rooms rather than taking it directly from innocents. It was not a matter of morality but rather of simple logistics. As a doctor whose malpractice was primarily forcing/cajoling people into unnecessary lipo, Lyman Kreech knew just how much fat was in the average human and Moreau, and even if he drained one person entirely, it would not be enough to get even a single charge for its fire powers.

So it was merely pragmaticism, not morality that made him target the already sucked fat first. As the last drops of said harvested substance. The sack on his back reached full and ominously the twister said, "Let's get fired up!"

Just when Ollie was about to call a cab for him and Gos to go home, a scream rang out, "There's a monster staring fires!" Since it was clearly a nurse screaming and they were nowhere near the psych ward, Ollie knew that it was something to be taken seriously. He nodded to Gos who nodded back before turning into his Gene-Key form and being inserted into the DN-Gen System. They morphed as they ran, and upon confronting the Twister they yelled out the morphing call, "Ignition, on! Human! Mouse! The Molecular Powerhouse, DN-Gen Helix!"

The Wickling Pishtaco was unimpressed, and said, "Oh yeah, hero?" How are you gonna stop me and save those innocents!" Then he opened fire, not at the hero but at the nearby furniture. He ran off, knowing that the morality of Ollie and Gos would mean they would try and stop the fires first. And the Twister was right, but little did the Wicking Pishtaco know that extinguishing the fires was not as difficult as he predicted.

Helix inserted a Water Gene Key into the system and in a flash they had become a new form; this one resembling a lumberjack mixed with a beaver. The form was armed with a wrist mounted chainsaw on one hand and in the other was a mud launching hand cannon with a switch on the side to change its ammo to water charged with Morphin Grid energy to fight any conceivable fire. The two components of the hero began the roll call, alternating as usual; "Ignition, on! Mouse! Water! The River Buster, Hydro Beaver!"

Switching the cannon to water mode Hydro Beaver systematically extinguished each fire as he chased the Twister, but it was difficult to keep up given the fact that he had to systematically extinguish the fires started. Soon the Twister was outside and preparing to torch the entire hospital. He cackled and yelled, "This hospital will go up in flames! So say-eth Lyman Kreech!"

Just as this threat was about to be enacted a highly unexpected event happened that saved the countless innocents within. Namely, DN-Lazarus suddenly sliced the tail off of the twister, the monster yelling in pain. The Wickling Pishtaco yelled, "What'd ya do that for?!" Lazarus cooly replied, "Unlike many in my business I have standards."

He pointed to Helix and yelled, "Keep putting out the fires!" Helix glared at Lazarus, managing to convey the sentiment that he was doing so not because the wanted criminal told him to but because of the sheer foolishness that not putting out the fires would entail. As such he continued to extinguish the fires. The Wicking Pishtaco turned its rage onto Lazarus, launching waves of fire and streams of fireballs with ease.

Then something different happened, the flamethrowers clicked like a gun without a round. The Twister looked behind him and realized that the stored fat he had in the sack was wasted. It was then he realized that Lazarus had planned this. He cut off the stinger to prevent him from reloading and then made him waste all his ammo.

Lazarus nodded to Helix and said, "I leave the details of dealing with this guy to you. Now I take my leave." He did one of the super jumps more associated with a ranger villain, and the Wickling Pishtaco let out a sheepish laugh before trying to run. However, a shot from the mud canon stopped him in his tracks.

However, just as Hydro Beaver was about to unleash his finisher, a new pair of voices cried out their own rollcall, alternating like Ollie and Gos did, "Ignition, on! Human! Cat! The Claws of Justice, DN-Gen GCAT!" With only that as a warning, a blue and white colored cat ninja armored being pounced upon the defenseless Twister.

The two veteran DN-Geneers yelled in unison, "Overdrive Slash!" Their claw gauntlets were charged with energy and they sliced through the Wickling Pishtaco, causing the monster to spark and explode. GCAT gave Helix a friendly slap on the back before saying, "Thanks for warming it up for me." Helix decided that it wasn't worth protesting as they both demorphed.

As Lyman Kreech lay dazed, Sam cuffed him and said, "Lyman Kreech, you are under arrest for Twister activity and for aggressive malpractice." Kreech said, "Come on! Everyone wants to be thinner! What's the problem?" Max, from the dog carrier, said, "Hey, we don't make the laws. We just violently enforce them."

As the Freelance Police cuffed and put Lyman Kreech in the back of the Desoto, Sam handed a slightly burnt book to the DN-Geneers saying, "I think this might be of interest to you." The (slightly singed) sign in sheets showed something that confused the DN-Geneers. Lazarus's name was on their repeatedly, at least once a week for at least a year. This was however the first time Lazarus had ever sold a Gene Key to anyone in the hospital. It seemed the mystery surrounding Lazarus only deepened.
