When Dex goes to rescue sophie and fitz, an elf named Cirah sneaks into the light beam with them. She uses her Guster power to stop the neverseen. Umber and Ruy leap away. Gethen remains, and he tries to attack Cirah, but sophie grabs onto him, enhancing him in the process. Gethen's enhanced powers lets him break into Cirah's mind, and create a new powerful elf to change the game.

In a world where Talentless have no worth, Rex decides to change things. He isn't going to let that slide, and he definitely won't let any "distractions" get in his way.
