Kai POV: I didn't sleep for very long, maybe around an hour, because my stomach started to ache badly. I think it was just the medication Zane had given me messing with it, but it hurt really bad. So bad that I just laid there as the pain was wreaking my gut. I groaned and closed my eyes, trying to focus on something else. However, soon someone gently knocked on my door.

"Kai, I'm coming in." I could tell that it was Zane. As he walked in I pushed myself up. Which he immediately helped me with.

"Do you need something?" I asked, and flinched a little from the obvious pain in my voice.

Zane raised an eyebrow and answered me. "I was going to ask if you were okay. However, it seems that you have already answered my question."

He wasn't wrong, but did he need to point that out. "It's just the meds. They're making my stomach hurt. I'll get over it."

But he didn't believe me. "Kai, even if it's the medication I would prefer that you inform me if you require assistance."

"But it's really not that bad…" I tried to counter, but Zane had already got to work.

He went over to grab some painkillers and injected them into the IV they set up for me. It wasn't an instant relief, but the pain didn't get worse. And he didn't stop there. Zane also scanned me, focusing more on my known problems before finally stopping.

"It seems your system and body are still a bit weak. We'll have to be extra careful with the stronger medication until you have regained more strength. In the meantime, normal painkillers should be enough to keep your pain at tolerable levels." He explained and I nodded. I thought he was done, but he continued with some other things.

"As for your other injuries. The stab wound is healing at a quicker rate than I had expected, which is a good thing. Though, your arms…" He trailed off and looked at them.

I lifted them up a little and examined them myself. They were still shaky and just moving them an inch really hurt, and they felt tight too. I don't even want to think about the pain that comes when the bandages come off. And the worst part was the fact that I still can't remember why they hurt.

I set them down and asked, "Well? Are they getting better?"

He cleared his throat and answered me. "They are healing slowly, but I strongly believe they will recover. However, I am unsure at this moment whether there will be scarring or not." I nodded, not really surprised. It wouldn't be the first time something like this happened. But there was one thing though.

"Zane, be honest with me. What exactly happened? How did I get hurt?" He immediately looked away when I asked.

"At this time, you should focus on recovering instead of other things." He responded after a few moments of silence, basically ignoring my question.

I groaned and said, "Come on, I deserve to know." But he just shook his head.

"Kai, your health is more important right now. Let's focus on that. Besides, I do not think that Nya or anyone else would appreciate it if I tell without their knowledge." He crossed his arms, making it clear that he wasn't going to budge.

I groaned in response and flopped back. It hurt, but I didn't let that show. Plus, I could also see his point. It sucks, but I guess I could a little bit, even if I really didn't want to. However, there was something I wasn't willing to let go.

I sat back up to continue. "Then at least let me walk around."

"Kai…" He rubbed his eyes, but I didn't stop.

"Come on, it's my arms that are injured. Not my legs and I proved that on the Bounty, didn't I?"

He looked at me before reminding me, "And as I recall you couldn't return to the med-bay without assistance. Not to mention how your stab wound reopened without you noticing."

"That was the adrenaline, not my injuries. So it won't be the same." I retorted, and he started thinking it over. For a lot longer than I would like.

But finally he sighed and said, "Alright, but only for a short time. And I will be accompanying you, just in case."

"Deal." I moved my legs, making him rush to help me. But he made me go slow as I stood up, even though I was fine. Maybe a little unsteady on my feet, but that's because I haven't been on them for a while. That's it and nothing else.

Though Zane did have to open my door since I couldn't and we walked in silence as he stayed close. He clearly wasn't comfortable with this, but I didn't say anything. It just felt so good to not be laying around doing nothing. Though, soon, Nya and Lloyd turned the corner in front of us. They were both shocked by what I was doing.

"Kai! You're supposed to be in bed." Nya stated, with them both rushing over to me. But I waved them back a little.

"It's fine, it's just a little walk." I tried to say, but that just earned a glare from the both of them.

"You. Are. Hurt. You need to be resting, not risking your recovery." Lloyd responded, firmly while trying to use his 'leader' face. Not that it would work on me.

Thankfully, and unexpectedly, Zane spoke up for me. "I am making sure that he is alright. And we both agreed that this would be a short walk. There is nothing to worry about."

They both shared a look, clearly still not comfortable with this. But they weren't going to argue with Zane. It wouldn't work no matter what they tried.

Nya sighed and said, "Fine, but we're coming with you. Just in case Kai tries anything."

"Seriously? You think I would?" I asked, smirking a little.

She just rolled her eyes and scoffed. While Lloyd said, "Of course you would. You're the biggest hothead we know."

I chuckled, but when I took another step I heard an echoey laugh from behind me. My blood went cold and I turned to look. But no one was there, absolutely no one. Yet… it didn't like it should be. They all noticed this and were immediately concerned again.

"Kai, are you alright? Your heartbeat has accelerated slightly." Zane asked, and I drew a shaky breath.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's just keep going." I tried to sound fine, but a part of me wasn't. And by the looks on their faces, they knew it.

But they didn't push it and we kept walking. Nya kept a hand on my good shoulder, which helped me stay calm. But I kept thinking about what I heard. It was human somewhat, but also dark and evil. But that's not what gave me the intense feeling of dread.

It was the fact that I recognized that laugh, and knew that it belonged to someone dangerous.
