Chapter 32: Unnecessary Judgment
/
Michael had hassled and corralled Jack the next day while Raku was with John, in the Headmaster's little lair. Thankfully this time, only Michael's father was present and not Grey. John rocked his knee nervously as Raku looked at his knees, unhappily.
The white hair of this male reminded him of the real Marcus's gmfsther; the elven style of gown and dress as well as the splendor of being a high official to the council then, this one was similar.
As if Lothos were telling the truth, then this entire experience was a repeat of him falling further into dark distress as Lilu had made the boy suffer.
John had seen and read plenty to know that the "infection" had bypassed Adam's protections and now, they were all in trouble.
"Your last year here, and the rest you claim is due to his failing…-
"I've taken the liberty of freelance in Denmark." John lied. "It's a long trip and the schools there are going to better him as well, after the deaths so far…"
"Adam, you mean? And the thing that you claim still roams these halls, Constantine?" The council staff rubbed his chin tactically. "Your child in my eyes dies not seem so thrilled on the prospect of a new classroom."
"I'm his guardian, so it goes without saying, "John countered. "Then again, including your boy making a ruckus before my charge was ever settled…"
"This is not about him, yet about you both." The headmaster cut them off quite quick. "Raku's testing is in a way, almost ubiquitous of that of someone of another era. If this us the case, his records won't all need to be relinquished. Yet, you need enough to continue in your teaching –
"Am I being kicked off campus?? My colleague Adam was murdered and I will gladly appeal this is Azrial if you dare pass that blame on any other warlock! Why not Grey? Every time that man is present, something shatters. He even has secrets, wouldn't-
"John." Raku put up a palm. "I'd like to speak, on my own behalf."
/
Jack was tossed into the restroom to chat with Michael as he had a wand in one hand, spellbound in the other. "I took the liberty of examining the bare facts. You cannot be real, was my first guess. The very fact that your aura is similar in fact –
"How can you tell, bloke?" Jack frowned. "What ability let you see the real us?"
"Us?"
"Well, I am a twin. Jen is definitely not pleased as punch about how you've been acting when I'm here, and our cousin Raku –
"Exactly why I know you're finding!" The wand was pointed as Jack huffed a breath. "Really? Go along with it, tell me all about your "extraordinary" discoveries." He egged the boy to say his piece as Michael looked as bright as a light bulb about their heads in such a small space. "Well. Firstly, you are….how do I put this…you act, speak and walk as a certain person in this school. You even dare I add in, look like him by his hair and eyes! As if an exact replica from some crummy novel in a book - shoppe. I would also like to say, your spells don't require a wand."
"Some do, others –
"You're advanced enough not to." Michael crossed his arms. "So, why here? So… if you had to come to class at all, you're certainly not as you appear to be. Yet , as another. A Constantine."
"Jen is my –
"I've seen a similar "lady or lass" walking about after that hooligan – she's from Australia. Energy as bolts of lightening. You'd be shocked to know my network as the child prodigy of this academy."
"Are you just a bit uptight because of Raku? He's a genius compared to whatever you've told us you are." Snorted the dirty blonde. The silver haired blonde magi only clicked his tongue. Pacing away, a shadow in the corner of the room.
"Look out!!"
As he sent his wand to it, the serpentine eyes shut.
"Did you summon it??"
"N – NO!" Michael shook his head. "I don't summon creatures, let alone demons!"
"Then, who did it?? Did you little adventure turn into a fight, and as far as my aura? I'm bloody pure! You're the one that needs a full cleansing!" Jack stomped for the door as Michael stayed behind. All alone, the door never opened again as if it had any need, and Amber stepped from behind Michael with devil horns and all.
"You really have no idea what to do….ah, annnd what of that is a mini - John's clone?" Amber giggled out of her desire to see him suffer.
"It has to be a ruse."Michael stomped his foot angrily. "This school is a cover up then for whatever these filthy magi are up to. I want to know, Amber!" He gripped her hands as she grinned even wider with even more destructive glee. "Tell that boy to meet me after his classes. I have one more theory." He proposed as she made an exiled "o" with her mouth.
"Did you have anything in mind for that, humblest "Prince of the academy?" She teased. "I know a guy, if you'll allow me to get back in connection…?"
/
Zee looked over her missed curriculum line up while sighing over her desk. "I am going to need neuro – therapy after I am back in the circus. –
"Sorry to intrude, Miss?"
She looked up to see the last person as apologetic – and…
She saw Grey and wanted to punch his lights out for some reason. His brown hair was no longer as John had said but with vigor and great vitality to it. Each was held back by a long tail that was draped over his shoulder. He wore small circular spectacles atop the bridge if his nose, while she …
"What do you want." She finally gathered to ask.
"You were in by yourself…I apologize. If we, could simply have a moment –
"Why should I have anything to say back to a shrew that works with him, hurting us was enough. I know about the disguise. You swapped w-
"And he never let me realize it. I was saved by the council head! I have it all wrong. Adam felt terrible and even offered to find my recovery here. I was given a curse, just as you by that…" As he acted out the part of a victim, the scene in front of Zatanna made her gut quake.
"You're not to be trusted, so no. I'm fixing my part. You, can go back to class now."
"If, that is what you wish –
"I want." Zee redirected. "I never wish for anything I can't manifest on my own. Whatever it was that the old you lost, there was a reason for it. Whatever you were given back as payment, I know he's expecting you to pay up the rest with our lives, souls."
"My, is that what you truly think of me?"
"I do."
"Then, do not."
Atticus slowly removed his glasses as blood red orbs gazed back at her solid green. "Wh – you're in there?? In him!" She pointed and stood up.
"I am, you're pretty weak minded to not have noticed. We even slept together, or…had you forgotten my scent?"
"The damned….Jan.. it or." She gasped before shaking her head. "No! I got it under control with Ra's, and any other big magi in this universe. You don't…."
She was sure it stunk all of a sudden of red miasma. A thick odor that puffed out an era of carnage. Zee half her mouth shut and slapped a palm over it.
"I can hurt you…I can take back whatever you did to us!" She mustered without grabbing thrash by her desk.
"Perchance, be it in a dream, my lovely?"
The fig overtook her as she coughed.
And coughed.
And….
/
The demon's grin woke her as college style papers pooled to the ground. The students in her class all loudly whispered while Amber came up to prod the witch's shoulder. "Are you alright??" She looked to care, yet over shoulder, Zee saw the truth and got up quickly to excuse herself out into the hall. When she did, a face a few steps to the next hall woke her from a seeded gaze. Cat eyes of tan and brass, and braids pulled back while she still had on a suit, heels and a wicked anger below her pride.
"Where is the office, sorceress?"
Zee stuttered as Sarah Santiago nudged her neck for Zee to hurry it along.
"Downstairs…" Zee seeped. "Let me –
"Keep your cover, and for gods' sakes be careful. I can sense an evil energy within this entire compound."
"Compound?"
"Below these floorboards were the efforts of old wars. Britain's history and the academy still standing is due to its dedication for many years after." Sarah told the green-eyed woman. "Go. The students will start to worry."
Zee nodded and found her bearings as she opened the door, stepping back in with a plastered on but nervous grin.
"Sorry! I had a minute to simply breathe. There is nothing to worry about. We'll begin to –
Sarah smirked as she went for the room where the Headmaster had his eye on the real prodigy of this school.
Both he, and his father.
~ John, you did not wait.~ She telepathically scolded him.
~ Bit hard to with so many eyes watching, Love. ~ Feeling tense, John shifted in his seat. ~ Two floors, it's a bit of a dip. If you see a selfie boy, ignore it. He's a bit lost in the woodwork.~
~ Ghosts…?~ Sarah snorted and hopped on her way to the next stairwell. ~ What an interesting place to be drained of a life. Adam never warned you about a damn thing. Was this all preordained to happen? ~
~ How should I know? I hasn't seen the damned angel since I pissed of Azriel in Rome. Do you know how angry the pope has to be to pull a knife on one if his bloody kids? Anyway, we are here. It has only been thirty somewhat minutes. Raku looks to be speaking out so I can jabber.~
~ Jabber, we shall.~ Nodded Sarah as the students all had faces gawking at the counterpart of Inanna's. If she was love, Astarte was full on faux feminine to the next decade. War. Yet her war wasn't so easily won.
~ Lothos went through Lilu's hurdles to earn his stripes. Nothing but a demonic tyrant trying to relive the glory days.~
~ Yet is he not unbound by your mortal restrictions and laws, Constantine? A council member of your plane or our own must be allowing these transgressions to not be penalized; even your own Atticus Grey is a well known anarchist in Magi records. ~
John sighed through his nose as the paperwork was made up for, he and Raku to thin through. ~ The documents here stare that Raku is owned through the council's action fir his protection. It's nothing but a con on magical welfare. We can't-
The door swung open as Raku sighed in a fatigued way. "Aunt Sarah…you were such a start –
"What is this?"
"WHO." Michael's father stood from his seat, came shaking at his arm. "You, have such an energy about you that rivals a –
"Power play is nothing to you, however. I am a legal representative of this boy and his remaining true family. I will see to the documents with my associates."
"On what grounds might we ever allow this??"
"Allowance accepted." Michael's father shut up the headmaster. "See it as you will. Print out another set of documents."
/
Astarte never gave away her military title in the USA. Let them guess, it was a risk she'd have the gall to commit to as Raku watched aptly from the side.
"So, your status is as the aunt twice removed, yet you hold n –
"Racial bias on this case…accounts for the fact that I am half a black north African citizen at one time, and middle eastern by that partial description, ( She's saying how Astarte was not fully middle eastern but sge had African roots more northland die to her history with countries that worked alongside the Egyptians in that past. Raku however is integrated by his mother with the other use " Suliman" ( will research that much better. Kind of rusty) so that it makes sense by his origin in old world Iraq and Iran despite Solomon being Israeli. He's with only lighter because the fact was he was saved from death by Isis during his trial to stay in Azag's world, sort of the case where he lost his mortality so his palor changed through each transformation. Into Roku, he was able to morph into someone more acceptable in Asia after he defeated a dragon elemental and turned the place over. After that, he was literally stopped and banished while he took over later Catalina's husband and possessed him to get to her He was again banished and recovered thanks to A, who wanted him to overcome his darkness, this Lori was the perfect lesson. It failed and he literally after eons and Aiden, finally reverted as we know him now to start his life from scratch. ( with Latino roots to another parent's side. Is this an oddity of a culture not blindsided by hate, sir?"
She was quick to shoved THAT down their throats, John gulped.
"I simply meant his confidence. How close were you exactly?"
"When his mother left this world, I acted a benefactor while he kept to his studies. Johnathan was there to assist the boy when his powers became controversial upon entering middle school."
"A bit late for any showing. My child was from the beginning, a true warlock. What makes him any less than you somehow fear?"
"You fear, yet cannot understand. Where there is chaos, order must adjust to balance and so on. There."
She handed back the second document that was the copy and pushed a braide from her ear to dictate her findings in this deceptively written contract work.
"He's to be monitored, yet it states little as to the real reasons for this. Only that his power is not under record and undocumented by your teams and staff. I'll gladly shed light on this topic. Raku holds the power of entities that control matter and time. If he so wished, this world could do cartwheels and fall to ruin. Or, he could heal that twitch in your upper lip with the slightest lift a pinkie. I'm to be sure that no intention of studying his behavior will go unpunished should the boy not be truly willing to comply. Thus, I can scratch up with my team a new contract." She placed the unsigned item back onto the headmaster's desk. "The only offer we have is that he stay. If he needs accommodation-
"My child, does have autism from his mother." She lied, partly.
"Oh…that…we'll gladly have a neurologist take that into account if you allow it."
"Only if I'm able to pick the one he's seen from the diagnosis at age twelve. They are in practice in San Diego."
"Bring us the slips and –
"AND." She put up a finger. A bodyguard could be necessary. I might have sources to this through the fact, that I'm not just a legal advocate. I run a naval unit. Stars from here to Mumbai."
She was telling them?? Raku looked at how tightly Michael's father was gritting his jaw. Oh, she had…
"My mission is to protect meta and he falls into this category. The fact that your faction promised inclusiveness to my nephew and you stole ghat when this Adam passed on? Where is his first signature." She put out a palm as the headmaster opened a drawer and pulled out the box that had "poxed" John.
"Drop that, Sir."
Raku told the male." That won't help us."
"Why does the boy know about that box, just what-
John swished with a coat and slammed the thing off the desk. The thing stayed intact as it rattled into the molding. John huffed and glared at the headmaster, his lip turned up well beyond his own selfless acts to control. That was…
"It was cursed." John cooled his head with a frown. "I had investigated this room after Adam's death. Had a warrant, so no firing my title. Whatever it was, it didn't likely take a key... it was… Alive, yet it cursed me until Raku helped us to handle its curse on my mugshot. Handed an illness to whomever tried to open, that." He nodded and let go a whistle through his nose. "Is never supposed to even open with a mortal finger. It's a God's little ploy, or…a demon's."
/
Astarte's glare was violent as her lip cursed up. "Foul play?? In a place of study no less??"
"I…please! We couldn't remove it! I was just-
"It was in that drawer, not within the records sector?" Michael's father asked.
"I….it was there to keep us out of –
"Why was the box untapped, why could you touch it??" John pointed a finger as the Headmaster fell to his face and wept openly about the accusations. "Please!! He's going to gut my like a trout! Don't make this harder for a damned stand in!! Those children need to be safe from what I'm keeping at bay…"
"Who is "he?" Raku shook at the thought of the perversions of Lothos entering their classroom.
"Oh, just….an old soul that watches out for what HE is. We know. A djinn boy, right?? Not like we couldn't have figured it out."
"Who?" John padded.
"A representative in the middle east. He seems to know of that power and assured that Adam could allow the boy to enroll. John, you were only introducing him, I'm afraid."
John sat back down, yet Astarte stood her ground as a proud lioness. "You'll give us a way to contact this mystery representative. If not, there will be a ruling, I can assure…"
Michael's father grunted before pulling out what looked to be a slip of paper as he wrote down a number. The headmaster was useless as he glared to the side at the male, leaning over his desk to show that he wasn't happy. This all would have gone so well, hand someone not mucked up their chance to win the council with evidence of a reincarnation in modern day life.
A God's offspring, and his new start.
/
So, they are and are NOT on Lothos's side? Big twist coming. You thought that they'd end up with a traitor, but wait until you see who the real culprit is! Or was? Find out!! And Astarte is the Rhianna in Camo stereotypical with long braids and her goddess mentality because of her background as the goddess or war in the past. Similar to Isa coming back, or Verra. A same thing, so?
