Once Lorenzo left, Spencer hurried into the office.
"So what do you have on Esme?" Spencer asked.
"Nice to see you too, Spencer," Kellie replied.
Spencer looked mildly chagrined and annoyed at Kellie.
"Spencer, I know you were also raised to be polite," Kellie said.
"That's beside the point," Spencer said, "So…anything on Esme yet?"
"I haven't found anything we don't already know," Kellie said.
"There has to be something," Spencer groaned.
"I'll keep looking," Kellie said, "But unless something new happens with Esme, I don't think the answer is in her past. So just be a big brother to Ace."
"But that means," Spencer protested.
"Just being a brother to him," Kellie said, interrupting, "and keeping an eye on him to make sure he is safe, happy, and loved which I think he is right now. If something happens to change that, we can revisit this discussion."
"But there has to be something more," Spencer whined.
"And we're doing it," Kellie said, "Sometimes what you do is wait. Believe me I know it's incredibly hard especially if it doesn't seem fair or just. In the meantime, do you want you tell me what got you even more twisted up about the situation?"
Spencer gave Kellie an irritated look and flopped down in a chair.
"I asked Aunt Alexis for legal advice," Spencer huffed, "and not only did she basically tell me what you did, she also thought it was an opportune time to ask me what I'm planning to do with my life. I mean, really, how can I focus on that right now?"
"I can see how Alexis kind of has a point," Kellie said, "It should be something you focus on now rather than later."
"But I have to run Cassadine industries at some point," Spencer said, "My future is already decided."
"What have you done to prepare for that role?" Kellie asked, "It'll be easier to take that over if you've done things now to prepare you for that experience."
Spencer just shrugged.
"Beyond boarding school have you taken any college classes," Kellie asked, "maybe some business classes."
"Why would I want to see through boring lectures?" Spencer scoffed.
"Who says you have to sit in a classroom?" Kellie said, "I certainly didn't to get my business degree. I took advantage of the online schools."
"What you got your degree?" Spencer asked.
"Yeah, I wanted to prove that I could get it," Kellie said.
"Of course, you would," Spencer said, rolling his eyes, "It doesn't mean I have to go to college."
"No, it doesn't," Kellie said, "But it's something that help the people you would eventually work with have more confidence in your skills and abilities. And you might learn some things that would help you."
"Do I have to study business?" Spencer asked.
"Honestly, you could study whatever you want," Kellie said, "You'd still get skills and knowledge that could be transferred to running Cassadine Industries. In your case, maybe getting a degree in anything you want regardless of the Cassadine expectations would be good for you."
"I'll think about it," Spencer conceded.
"The other thing I'd suggest you think about," Kellie said, "Some kind of job."
"But I have money," Spencer said.
"Not about the money," Kellie said, "Again skills and experience. Also, if at some point things change with Esme and Ace, you'll want to already have established yourself as stable and responsible. A job will help with that."
Spencer looked annoyingly resigned to Kellie's point.
"When I said I wanted to learn from you this wasn't exactly what I had in mind," Spencer said.
"That's part of my mystique or whatever you want to call it," Kellie smirked.
"So can you find me a job?" Spencer asked.
"Nope," Kellie said, "I think you are capable of looking for and applying for jobs. Now if you want me to look over the applications or resumes before you send them in or help you prepare for an interview, that I can do.
"But it's my first job since Kelly's," Spencer said.
"Spencer, you can do this," Kellie said, "Once you find some jobs to apply for, I can go through them with you and we discuss the options."
"Fine," Spencer said, "So can I come over for dinner tonight?"
"Sure," Kellie said.
