This isn't happening. This just plain isn't happening.
"Repeating that will not make it true," the strong voice of the only other person -and I'm using person VERY loosely here- echoed through the area.
Ignore him. He's not real. None of this is. I'm just going crazy.
"Are you under the impression that being in denial for long enough will change reality? If not, cease this foolishness at once."
I groaned as I heard the voice speak again and actually looked up. I was sitting on the forest ground and leaning back on a large tree, and the person that talked was standing in front of me, casting a shadow over the moonlight.
It was a middle aged man. Pitch-black, long hair fell halfway across his back and red eyes stared at me. He had a thick mustache and clean shave for a beard. He was wearing a white military uniform under a black cloak that was held by a silver, five-pointed cross medal.
I, of course, knew who he was. Yhwach, the King of Quincy, and son of the Soul King.
"You're not real," I groaned, putting both my hands on my face and groaning. "You... You can't be."
"Regardless of whether or not you believe so, this situation is very real, and I grew tired of your constant repetition of denying it," Yhwach stated, irritation clear in his voice.
I just groaned, removed my hands from my head, and glared at him. "Then why don't you just kill me and prove it's real?"
"If I was able to, do you really think you'd be breathing now?" Yhwach's glared back, and my own glare broke as I tried to shuffle away from the sheer pressure of his look. "I had already attempted to take both your arms at your first at denying what is currently happening, however..."
He trailed off as he reached for something in his cloak before pulling out a sword and slashing at me. I gasped and jumped back, but, of course, I was too slow, and the sword flashed across my neck.
However, no blood came out. The sword just... passed through my neck without actual touching it.
"Hehe... Hahaha!" I began laughing hysterically, pointing at him. "See?! You're not real! I'm just insane!"
"You are insane for actually daring to point your finger at me," my hand immediately dropped, the tone of Yhwach's voice scaring away any defiance in me. "I am simply unable to physically or spiritually affect you, but that does not mean I am not real."
"Well, then what the hell are-" I was about to actually start yelling at the King of Quincy, which is probably the stupidest thing I've ever done, when something happened.
A screen popped up in front of me.
Greetings! I'm sure you're very confused!
"You don't say?!" I sarcastically replied.
I'll cut to the chase. You know me by the name Nyarlathotep.
"... What?" I couldn't even tell the emotion in my own voice.
Was it dread? Exhaustion? Exasperation? All of them?
I'm bored. I picked some random idiot, that is you, and placed them here, in the world of Fairy Tail. To add fuel to the fire, I decided to make you the babysitter of Quincy here.
"This... This is a joke, right?" I was outright begging, not asking.
Long story short, I want chaotic fun. So, you'll be starting a Guild with the Quincy I give you.
"I... What?!"
You could refuse, of course. But, just know that I'll kill you if you do. And, knowing my kind, I'm sure you can imagine that your death will not be pretty.
"That's a fucking understatement," I mumbled.
Nyarlathotep -if this really IS who and/or what they claim to be- can give me fates worse than death. One of which is showing me its True Form. There's a reason they're called Eldritch Horrors.
Glad you're intelligent enough to value your life. Now, the game here is simple. I will give you power to Summon Quincy into the world while also controlling whether they can actually exist, or be stuck in a state of existence and non-existence like Yhwach here.
"Ah, so that's why he can't touch me?" I mumbled, understanding that Yhwach both exists and doesn't at the moment.
I think...
Your mission is to struggle. I want you to start a Guild, a LEGAL Guild and somehow manage it with the Sternritters alone. Right now, you have the ability to Summon five Quincies here. Every few weeks or so, I'll give you the ability to Summon another one. Make sure to keep me entertained. I'll be keeping an eye on you.
Until I find something more interesting.
"... Great, just..." I leaned back as the screen vanished and somehow managed to even shrink deeper into a fatal position. "The King of Quincy wasn't enough, huh? It had to be the manifestation of Eldritch Chaos himself playing a prank on me."
"Who is this 'Nyarlathotep'?" Yhwach's voice actually managed to get me to raise my head. "What kind of being, other than my father, could possibly possess enough power to even overrule my Almighty?"
"I guess you saw that screen? And that you tried to use your powers to cancel what it did?" I asked and Yhwach hummed in confirmation. Sighing, I ran my hand over my hair. "Well... to summarise it, Nyarlathotep is chaos. Not metaphorically, literally, theoretically, or even conceptionally. Its just... pure chaos. It's a kind of creature that is called Eldritch Gods."
"Even a god cannot overrule my authority," Yhwach's voice was filled with confidence. Not arrogance, just pure confidence, enough that I didn't doubt the statement he just made. "My eyes see all. Do you dare to claim they're beyond even my grasp?"
"Well, they're called 'Gods', but that's just because a few idiots think of them as idols of worship. They're actually not divine beings," I said and Yhwach raised an eyebrow. "They're... things that simply do not exist, but at the same time, they do. If I have to guess, the reason you're Almighty doesn't work or see them, is because they have no future for you to control or see. They have no past, present, or future. They simply... are. They don't even have 'authority', at least not our definition of it. They simply... Have power. So much power that they can do literally whatever they want, unbound by ANY laws. They exist, but at the same time, you can't prove they do, even with the results of their actions."
"Are you enunciating that these things do not operate under any laws of existence?" Yhwach's eyes were obviously skeptical. "Such beings cannot exist in any world."
"You're right, they don't exist in any world. They come from outside," I began further explaining. "Eldritch Beings come from the nothingness outside the universe. That's why no laws apply to them. Because they have nothing binding them to such laws," groaning, I stood up and wiped the dirt off my clothes.
"Where do you plan to head?" Yhwach asked me.
"Honestly? Literally anywhere that isn't in the middle of the forest. If this IS the world of Fairy Tail, there's definitely a town nearby," I said, but before I turned and walked away, another screen popped up.
Give Yhwach a full state of existence?
Yes
No
It was like the options on a phone. Both me and the King of Quincy looked deeply into the screen before he turned his gaze at me.
"Do it," he ordered, his eyes firm. I didn't do anything, mainly because I knew he'd probably kill me the instant I gave him existence. "Do. It."
His order was more firm this time, and I almost gave in to the sheer pressure of his voice and stare. It was intensity that you probably wouldn't find in anyone but true royalty.
Somehow, I managed to stop myself from giving in. "N-No," but I didn't stop my voice from stuttering. "N-Not yet. I'd rather be s-safe than s-sorry."
After I said that, I immediately turned around and began walking away. I can actually feeling Yhwach's glare at me from behind, like he was trying to kill me with a mere look.
The scariest part was that, without Nyarlathotep's 'protection': He actually can.
