Spiritual Energy Exhaustion is a pain in the ass.
It's the kind of exhaustion that somehow is everywhere in my body. From the roots of my hair, to the tips of my toes, everything feels like I just used it for hours.
Admittedly, my arms got practice because I kept doing the archery pose all day, but the rest of my body didn't move that much.
I spent nearly the whole day doing that practice until I literally couldn't anymore. Only then did Jugram dub it 'enough' and let me rest.
Askin and Gérard are already back and gave in half their reward. Gérard is in the back, practicing his sword with Jugram -I may have begged them to keep it down to not destroy the city-, and Askin is lounging around somewhere.
As for me, I was at the front desk reading through the magic book. It was pretty interesting and revealed a lot, honestly. My Schrift may not help with training, but it helps with this.
Apparently, all living beings have magic in them. It's just that the ability to USE Magic isn't that common, which is why most of the world population is normal people.
Magic can help living beings protect themselves by making them more durable or more prone to adapting to their environment.
If Spiritual Energy is... Well, Spiritual, then Magical Energy is more physical.
I guess that explains why the people of this world are durable, and how Fairy Tail was never held accountable for casualties despite the amount of property damage they do.
As for the concept of using magic, the book had a small introduction to it. It didn't have a detailed description of the forms of magic, since it was just an introduction to Magic as a whole for beginners, but still enough for me to get an understanding of the concept.
I would test if I could pull off the basic spells in the book, but I'm literally too exhausted to even try.
Hearing the door get opened, I looked up and saw Liltotto walk in. "Welcome back. Had a nice meal?" I greeted.
She shrugged her shoulders. "Meh, it wasn't the worst thing I had. Bears tend to be chewie, though," she commented as she walked towards one of the couches and sat down.
"Well, just remember to turn in half your reward. We need the money to make this place liveable," I stated, turning back to the book.
Liltotto sighed and got off the couch. Walking closer, she pulled out a bag and took out half her reward from it, placing it on the table. As she did that, she looked at the book in my hands. "What are you reading now, teacher's pet?"
"An introduction to Magic. Since this world is full of it, I'd like to learn about it," I explained.
"Didn't you start Quincy training today?"
I raised an eyebrow at her. "Well, yeah."
"Then you should probably avoid spreading yourself thin," Liltotto shrugged and went back to sitting on one of couches. "Not that it's any of my business, but your Schrift only helps you learn stuff, not train on them. You should focus on one field of training at a time."
I frowned in thought. She wasn't wrong. My Schrift helps me learn things instantly, but training is something that I'll need to work on myself, meaning that I really shouldn't spread myself thin.
"I guess I'll stick to Quincy training for now. Even so, I'll still be researching this stuff," I said, turning back to my book. "Knowing how magic works is arguably as useful as being able to use it. Since I can't stretch myself thin when it comes to learning, I'll try to learn as much as I can."
One of the biggest threats in this world, Zeref, is considered dangerous not because of his power alone, but because of how good he is at Magic and using it.
When you understand how Magic works, you can pretty much do anything with it. Regardless of whether or not you have the power to back it up.
It's basically a medium Swordsman with a big sword vs. A skilled Swordsman with a small sword. Sure, the size of the weapon makes a difference, but the bigger difference is caused by the skills.
The door was opened again and Bazz B walked in. "Hey, had fun?" I asked.
"Burned down an old building, so yeah, kind of," he admitted, placing his hands in his pockets.
"I hate to say this as soon as you got back, but do you mind turning in half your reward?" I requested awkwardly.
Bazz B scowled but still walked closer to turn in the Jewels. "How did training go?"
I blinked at him. "Uh... do you actually care?"
"Hell no!" Bazz B immediately barked back. "Just making sure Jugram didn't put any ideas of worshipping the ground Yhwach walks on!"
"Oh, uh, no, he didn't," I replied.
I mean, technically, he did tell me to be thankful to Yhwach for the Quincy cross, but to be fair, that is something worth being thankful for. I wouldn't have found another Quincy cross in this world unless maybe if I custom order from a jewellery store or something.
"Quite paranoid of you, Bazz B," Jugram said as he came in from the hall leading to the backyard.
"You never know with you," Bazz B retorted, glaring at Jugram.
"Hey!" I immediately stood up and got their attention. "We got a few stuff for dinner. Who wants to give a hand at cooking?"
They all stared at me. Probably surprise at the blatant attempt at defusing the situation. Eventually, Bazz B sighed. "Fine. I guess I can do it."
I couldn't stop blinking at him. "You cook?"
"The hell's that supposed to mean?!" Bazz B barked at me.
I raised my hands in mock surrender. "I'm just asking. I don't know everything about you. How the hell am I supposed to know if you can cook?"
Bazz B clicked his tongue. "Where's the kitchen?" He asked
I pointed with my thumb to the hall behind the counter. "Go down there and it's the door on the left."
Bazz B walked past me and into the hallway. It wasn't long after that when he heard him yelling. "Holy- This is the ugliest kitchen I've ever seen!"
"Told you," I said to Liltotto, who just rolled her eyes at me. Immediately after that, I turned to Jugram. "Okay, seriously, can he cook?"
"Bazz B is actually quite the capable cook," Jugram replied.
Just then, we saw a flash obviously from fire coming from the direction of the kitchen followed by very concerning laughter. "Let's get cooking!"
"... Despite the impression he gives," Jugram added.
I just slowly sat back down and placed my hands on the table. I couldn't even go back to reading from how concerned I was that the place would burn down, so I just drumming my finger on the table.
Soul King, give me strength.
