Sorry for my bad English.
Happy New Year.
I decide to start the year with another chapter of this fanfiction I did not expect to be this popular compared to the others I have. I just wish my OC based fanfiction was this popular but I will not annoy you guys again with this.
Volume 10 still is not greelit as far as I know and after watching the volume 9, I have my doubt if it will ever be. It was not a bad volume but was not so good either. Bubblebee becoming official did not appear to me when it comes to the plot and I think I mentioned this before, but I'm with the group who would rather have Jaune continue as a adult. I felt this would be more interesting to the plot somehow.
For the anonymous review who spoke about Chibi Oobleck I say: Dammit! I had the chance to use him again and I let it slip.
Well, that's all for now. To the fic!
Beacon
Arena
A month before the first fight of the Challenge.
-Miss me! Miss me! Miss me! -Chocolat taunted which each dodged.
-Stay still, dammit! -Ruby cursed, swinging her scythe over and over.
At some point, Chocolat was able to get on Ruby's personal space, hit the back of the reaper's hand with the handle of her pistol, and before Crescent Rose hit the floor, Chocolat took and was on Ruby's back with the scythe's blade near her neck.
-That's the match. -Goodwitch stated.
A week before the fight with Koro.
Ruby grunted with each swing of her scythe, cursing under her breath as Chocolat continued to dodge each of her strikes. She pointed her sniper against Chocolat but was surprised when the moment she pulled the trigger, the brunette kicked the barrel away and the bullet hit the wall.
With Ruby still holding her scythe, Chocolat put both her hands on Crescent Rose and put both her feet on Ruby's belly before rolling to her back and throwing Ruby away. She lost the grip on her weapon in the process and she rolled to her knees, she was greeted with a pistol aimed at her face.
-I believe it is enough. -Goodwitch stated.
As Chocolat put her guns back, Ruby puffed her cheeks.
The day Ryan and Cardin fought against the Three Pigs
With her hands on her back and a smile on her glossy lips, Chocolat dodged the frantic moves from Ruby as she tried to take her opponent down with her scythe. Aiming a cut to the legs, Ruby aimed her scythe at Chocolat's ankles. Chocolat however gave a little leape and with both her feet, pushed the scythe down.
-Oh, now you have done it! -Ruby shouted.
Putting dirty soles on her precious baby was a serious offense.
Ruby went to use her semblance, running a circle around Chocolat. The brunette, however, pointed one of her guns below her armpit and pulled the trigger. The bullet hit Ruby in midair and she was sent flying back to the ground, Crescent Rose a few feet away. She tried to take her weapon back but a shot close to her hand stopped her from reaching her weapon.
-The match is over. -Goodwitch spoke.
Ruby growled while Chocolat chuckled at her reaction.
Three days before the second fight of the Challenge.
Ruby didn't even know how she ended up like that. Her right arm was wrapping her neck her wrist being held by Chocolat, who was back to back with the redhead.
-How... this is even... possible? -Ruby asked, struggling to breathe.
-That's enough, Ms. Cream. -Goodwitch spoke. -The victory is yours.
-Better luck next time Ruby. -Chocolat said, releasing her friend.
-Nooooo... -Ruby whined.
Present day
The Duo's Room
-You want me to do what? -Ryan asked.
-I want you to train me like you have been training Jaune. -Ruby repeated.
-Uh, Ruby, where did this come from? -Jaune asked.
-I need to become stronger and defeat my rival! -Ruby exclaimed.
-And your rival is...? -Ryan asked.
-CHOCOLAT! -Ruby exclaimed.
-Uuuh, what? -Jaune asked.
-Ruby, how about some context? -Ryan asked.
-Since the first time we fought, she got the best of me over and over again. -Ruby explained. -It is like she's always a step ahead of me.
-She is a step ahead of you. -Ryan said. -Her semblance allows her to see the future. So she must have focused her fighting style on dodging and waiting for an opening. This makes the perfect counter to your dashing and charging fighting style. The same could happen if were with your sister fighting her.
-See? -Ruby began. -You already got a gist of how she fights and explained what is wrong with my way of fighting her. You are the perfect person to teach me and help me improve!
-Ruby, why don't you ask Ms. Goodwitch for help? -Jaune asked.
-She's always too busy praising Weiss and Pyrrha for how well they are doing. -Ruby answered. -And when she has time, she just says to look for myself where I going wrong.
-How did she get this job? -Ryan thought bitterly.
-So please, help me! Pleeease~! -She begged, her eyes widen.
Ryan was in a pickle here. He's been helping Jaune improve, sure. But he also needed to work on his skills as well since they don't know who they will face in the third round. But Ruby seemed desperate and he knew how it is when someone sees someone else as a rival. Russell keep challenging him and one of his friends in Vacuo, Brawls, once surprised him in the bathroom by screaming 'let's fight'.
Not his proudest moment.
But then again, Ruby could benefit from some extra skills given the problems she and her team are getting from what he heard from Jaune. He still didn't know why not let experienced huntsmen deal with the problem but the look in Blake's eyes told him she had no interest in putting someone else in this pickle.
But back to his pickle.
-I guess I have something for you. -Ryan said and Ruby cheered.
Jaune could only smile. If continues like this, Ryan sure has a future as a combat instructor. And he felt his partner would do a better job than Goodwitch.
Glynda's office
For some reason, Glynda felt like punishing Jaune for insulting her.
This could be left for later as for now, she needed to focus on her choice for the Challenge. Arc would not be much of a problem but she wanted to make sure he would not make it to the end. She already has someone in mind for him.
Forest on the other hand would be ironically, challenging for her.
His supernatural strength coupled with his unpredictable fighting style and the variety his semblance gives to him make it hard for her to choose the most suitable adversary to take him down.
The worst is he was among Pyrrha, Yang, and other two students from the first year to yet lost a match in her class. How come someone who can't walk in a straight line is so hard to fight against is a mystery to her.
Looking at the computer, she sees the profile of the best students from the third year. Most of the top students are out on missions and would not make it until the next fight. Some missions take a lot of time to complete after all.
She thought about having someone whose semblance could rival the variety of Ryan's semblance, but only someone with a semblance like Weiss and Koro could be a match.
But perhaps, someone else with a different type of semblance could reach the result she expects.
With the decision made, she contacted the said students and asked them to come to her office.
Combat Arena
There were a few things that could make Ruby anxious.
After Ryan agreed to help her with her training, he put on his sandals and left his room with Jaune. Their destination was the combat arena. While he was kind of vague about what they were going to do, he at least said he wanted to show something.
So there they were, in one of the arenas, empty except for one single soul standing alone in the center.
-Is it Chocolat? -Ruby asked pointing to the arena.
The duo looked to where she was pointing and saw the brunette gunslinger standing completely still in the middle of the arena, eyes closed, guns in hands, and the arms crossed with her weapons pointing to the ground.
She stood completely still, and Ruby along with Jaune were wondering if she was even conscious. The gunslinger of the duo, on the other hand, had an idea about what she was doing.
The answer came when she opened her eyes, glaring ahead as if she was facing an enemy, and pointed her guns to head. As she pulled the triggers, they were surprised to hear nothing from the guns, except for the clicking sound of unloaded guns.
Then she pointed each gun to both sides and pulled again the triggers. She gave a spun and put both guns next to each other and pulled again the triggers. She crossed her arms, pointed each gun to the sides again, and pulled the triggers. With one arm above the shoulder and the other pointing ahead, she pulled the triggers.
-What is she doing? -Ruby asked.
-Vision training. -Ryan answered.
-Vision training? -Jaune followed with a question.
-It is like she's facing enemies only she can see. -Ryan began. -She first focuses on the type of enemies she wants to face, then her mind creates them and her imagination does the rest. Next, she must think in one second what movement they will do and think in the same second how to counter.
-But will not be easy for her to think since she's the one planning the move of those invisible enemies? -Ruby asked.
-It is not as simple as people think. -Ryan explained. -What she's doing with this is improving her reaction time and movement by making her mind work in the most suitable move to use during a certain situation. You see an enemy comes with a vertical swing of a sword but there are a lot of ways to counter that. But the time you spend thinking about what move to use may hold you back, even for a second. Yes, she thinks about what movement her 'enemy' will do, but the hard part is to choose as fast as possible the movement she will do. And there are opponents whose the same move won't work twice so she needs to think on something else in a short period. This is what this type of training will help you with.
-Help me? -Ruby asked.
-You move fast but it seems your mind can't keep up with your body. -Ryan explained. -You repeat a lot of the movements you use because you move too fast to think properly. I was planning to have you do the same thing.
-Oh, I see! -Ruby said with her eyes sparkling. -If I use my rival's abilities against her, I'm sure will get her by surprise. She will never see that coming!
-Technically she will, and it was not exactly my point but whatever makes you happy. -Ryan thought.
-What are you guys doing? -Chocolat asked approaching Ruby and the duo.
Ruby immediately leaped over Ryan's back and covered his mouth.
-Oh, nothing! Nothing usual! Really! -Ruby said and chuckled nervously. Chocolat raised an eyebrow but shrugged.
-So, you guys want to hang out? -Chocolat offered and they all agreed.
But after three steps, Chocolat stopped in her tracks, her eyes distant like she was staring into nothingness.
-Uh, Chocolat? -Jaune asked.
Chocolat blinked a few times before turning to the blonde.
-What's up? -She asked.
-What were you looking at? -Jaune asked.
-Oh, just one of those random future visions I have. -Chocolat answered. -By the way, Ms. Goodwitch seems angry at you so, let's avoid the cafeteria.
Jaune didn't know how to feel, impressed with the idea of Chocolat seeing further in the future or fear for whatever reason Goodwitch wanted his bacon this time.
End of the chapter.
Ever saw That's so Raven? It is basically what Chocolat do whe she have those future visions. I just notice that after a while. The idea for her semblance came when I was watching the web series Death Battle. Can you tell from what character I got the idea?
That's all folks. See you next time.
