Voltron You Can NOT Defend
ESKK: Hey folks a new EVA Voltron story after the monumental failure that was my original attempt. This one will be modeled from Neon Genesis Voltron that relies on the original Voltron story. You can consider this story the Rebuild version of his story so get ready for WILLE and Misato being Gendo 2.0. Now let's get this story started.

Disclaimer: I do not own Voltron Legendary Defender or Evangelion. If I did own either of those, I would make sure Voltron ended with Kallura (Kallura is a constant) and had replaced Rebuild with an adaptation of Evangelion Anima. Now let's get this started.
(Start Misato Wundur Command Deck)
Misato Katsuragi sighed as she woke up on the uncomfortable bed of her quarters on the Wundur. Rising from her bed Misato rubbed her eyes to remove the sleep from them. It had been 14 years since that faithful day 14 years since the two Impacts and the loss of Shinji and Rei during the battle against the final angel.
Misato still recalled what had happened when NERV's true colors had been exposed. Once of those reasons was what happened after Unit-01 had awoken that day. When Misato and the infant WILLE had gone to liberate Asuka, they only found an empty pod and Asuka nowhere to be seen. It was like she had vanished and in the coming years it was clear NERV did not have her. On that same day Toji Suzuhara, Kensuke Aida, and Hikari Horaki had all vanished leaving everyone confused.
It was the general belief that they had died during the event leaving Sakura Suzuhara distraught over the loss of her brother. Rei had returned or as WILLE came to realize one of her clones had returned and had since been piloting her EVA for NERV. Misato knew that there was things to do and one of those things was to retrieve the fuel source to make the Wundur whole from space.
As Misato recalled what had happened that day the memories replayed in her mind as if to taunt her. "You can do it, Shinji!" The memory taunted Misato as she tried to ignore it. "Do it because this is what you want!" It continued as Misato growled trying to ignore it.
"I should never have said those words." Misato said reminding herself that there was much bigger issues to deal with. WILLE was NOT doing as well as she had hoped in recent times. The Wundur was their last best shot seeing as they only had ONE EVA Pilot fighting for them against NERV's near endless supply of EVA Units.
Retrieving Unit-02 was an issue but they manage to retrieve it in the end. But when they managed to get it was forced into serving as a backup EVA for Mari for a time. It was logical in case her current go too was damaged enough they had a backup. Regardless they needed to retrieve Unit-01 ASAP and that meant putting everything on Mari.
Thankfully, they had managed to find a replacement pilot for Unit-02 in time. She was a young girl named Mana Kirishima. The girl was fully ready and willing and at the moment she was all they had to fight off NERV with Mari. Mana had a strange resemblance to Asuka, but it was only in passing and at the moment beggars can't be choosers. Still Mana was able to synch with Unit-02 and thus was made its pilot for the foreseeable future. Of course, the girl was not exactly happy when she was forced to wear the DSS choker. Misato didn't like it either, but they had to stop any and all EVA Pilots from awakening their EVA Units like Shinji did.
Steeling herself Misato knew it was time to begin so prepped and ready she left the room. She knew her role, but WILLE needed an enemy to unite against. It had to be done, and Shinji was the only one who could serve as that enemy. Unknown to Misato her sins were about to come home to roost.
(Scene Break high atmospheric orbit)
"Pursuit Squadron-01, report both Evangelion and NEVEC NEOS current orbital positions."
"Pod-02 Dash now reaching orbital altitude…. 02-Dash is now in target orbit."
"Pod-08? What of Pilot Illustrious?"
"Well, I had some orbital problems yeah, but-"
"Problems were unseen in orbit due to lack of rising altitude, though Unit-08 shall be within range shortly."
"Acknowledged; Pod 02-Dash will have to solo the operation, with Pod-08 as support."
"Transitioning now from shift 10 to 07."
"Pod 02-Dash now passing the point of return."
"And NEOS?"
"That old wreck? Still broken in the old orbital blockade, ma'am. Though we've still activated our Short Range EMP System in case they've planned a sneak attack."
"Pod 02-Dash now entering Orbital Area-88!"
"Acknowledged; Operation-U.S is a go!"
"Understood. Pod 02-Dash has now entered her final operational orbit."
"Now transferring engine power to deceleration."
"RCS now active…. Activation confirmed!"
Stage-01 ignition is a go!"
"Posture-Control Systems is green light, no problems in the machine."
More and more voices barked orders and rose to attention as a single star shaped object, black and shield like came to life with aboard engine fire. Its energy echoes across the black abyss, high above the red Earth's sea. "The S1C's combustion was a success!"
"Contact rings now ready for separation… Success!"
Metal split away from the large star body as Operation U.S came to life rapidly, with several voices going silent and other continuing on to give orders. Its engines flashes for a moment, turning the star as smaller parts hovered off the armor.
The object split somewhat in half, revealing the center piece which held two large points together like a shield. In the back of the triangles, held by thin metal bars, were large cells with gun grey and crimson red armor blocks and pieces holding them in place.
On the inside the pilot sat as the Entry Plug flared and roared to life, finally displaying the close planet. It still laid there, dormant, silent, red, and still so full of death like before. Hands clenched to the controls as a voice, female yet full of the most extremist of stoic, spoke out. "Unit-02 Dash is on intercept course with target; I.D confirmed by MAGI, it's Unit-01. Eighty meters to contact."
"Reconfirm the target."
"Contact point is unchanged."
"Maintain Shift-M, no other casualties."
"02-Dash has prepared for rendezvous point. Pod-08 will only be able to give ninety-six second support, so make this quick, Shikinami."
The pilot silently nodded on their helmet, eyeing the far object under their visor. It was obsidian black, shaped like a cross with a disturbing silence surrounding its frame.
"Reflective waves appearing across the targets area."
"Is it NEOS? Or…. The other one?"
"No, this is different. Whatever it is, machine or not, it's jamming us!"
"It must be that wrecks old auto defense array." Mari said as the glasses wearing girl sat inside her EVA. Flashes of light passed by Pod 02-Dash, exploding in the distance as it continued across the night. "Don't worry! I ain't alone on this little ride, nya~!" Mari added with a grin on her face.
Explosions returned around Pod 02, shaking it but not damaging it. "Burst shockwaves incoming in: Three…! Two…! One!" Voice of the command crew reported just as Pod 02-Dash's pilot shook somewhat as the surrounding A.T Field arose, the explosions seemingly hitting the space surrounding it as another voice came to pass. "Second wave incoming-Pattern Blue confirmed!" Another tech reported showing that their troubles were far from over.
"Oh; dear me, what troublesome bunch, eh new girl." Mari said ready to fight against these new foes from NERV.
"Preparing to engage the enemy." Mana said as she was ready for any possible threats.
"Object scanned and identified- it's the Mark.04, Alpha-Type."
The Mark.04, from a far perspective, could be seen as a UFO. It was a rather dainty disk with purple "wings" and yellow linings, as well as four needle shaped legs that sliced at anything in its path. Say, for example. Pod 02's A.T Field, as it was now doing. "Bastard has an Anti-A.T Field?!" the pilot growled, watching with worry as the Mark.04-A's cut through the hexagon like shield around Pod 02-Dash.
Just at the legs retract, small inner energy cannons fired a barrage of bullets which melted into the star-like shield around Pod 02, whose pilot finally snapped in frustration. "To hell with this! Half of this shit is useless!" Mana growled before she decided to get rid of the shield.
The shielding fell away as the pod revealed its cargo: and huge, 100-meter red, black, yellow, and white humanoid like mecha, and Evangelion-no, the Evangelion Unit-02 Dash in all its divine glory. The only few key differences being it's Gatling gun left arm, painted black and red to match its color coding.
Unit-02 Dash's A.T Field returned in a flash, and the Mark.04-A quick to the offense began trying to cut through the Field before it was send back by a powerful burst of energy. "Dammit." Mana cursed as she saw that she was in trouble. "Makinami, I need support!" Mana cried out knowing she needed the help as she looked down at her so called "help": a secondary Evangelion laying on one of the shields like a chair.
This Evangelion was different however, with a light pink coloring and white, yellow, green paneling with a white eight green-eyed horned helm. "Funny, you're usually 3 seconds ahead of the final run, Kirishima!" The pilot proclaimed cockily, her blue and pink helmet standing out inside the Entry Plug walls. "It's a little thing us adults call Adaption, new girl." Mari boasted with a smile on her face. "Learn it, then try to keep up with little old me!" Mari called out knowing the mission's completion was now withing reach.
Mana then focused her attention back to the situation. "I've passed the Fullerene Shift, now entering the Final Defense, Area designation is eighty-nine! Target is on the move!" Mana reported as she grew closer to her destination.
Closer and closer did the cross come, spilling rapidly as it did. "No time for obit correction!" Mana cried out, jutting the controls, and aiming her EVA's grapple cannon-arm. "Guess I'll just have to brute this." Mana said knowing that this was her only chance.

One.
However, before she could launch her grapplers something happened. An alert came on Mana's sensors catching her by surprise. "New Contact detected!" The Crew on Earth reported and just in time as the cross shaped container was suddenly hit by energy beams knocking it off course.
Mana was wide eyed as she was thrown off course. She was able to fix herself in time to see what hit the Container. From there she saw what looked to a group of large ships exiting a portal and leading them out was what appeared to be robot lions. The design was completely alien to Mana and watching how the Lions continued to fire onto the container they clearly had some sort of grudge with the target.
"Commander, we have a new situation!" Mana cried out hoping they saw what she was seeing. "First contact we are NOT alone!" Mana called out as all eyes would be looking to what may be a historic event or the final chapter of the human race.
(Back with WILLE command deck)
"What is this?" Ritsuko asked shocked when she saw the alien vessels appear on their screens and sensors.
"I don't believe it aliens now?!" A member of the bridge crew cried out in frustration. Earth was not in any condition to be welcoming visitors especially if they are hostiles.
"Are those… robot cats?" Midori asked as the pinkette was surprised by the five brightly colored cats.
"No those aren't cats far too big to be those." Hideki said as he saw them flying through space. "Listen to them roar… they're lions…" Hideki added as he watched the black, red, blue, yellow, and green lions fly around the combat venue firing down on the container before Midori detected something on her console.
"Hey! We're picking up coms! They're using an old NERV communication frequency." Midori reported which was why they were able to acquire the signal.
"Put it through now!" Misato called out as she needed to know who or what exactly they were dealing with in this battle here.
"Yes ma'am!" Midori said and thus began to put the communication links on speaker for Misato.
"Is this actually Earth?!" Came a voice from the green lion that was vaguely familiar to Misato.
"The coordinates are correct this is Earth." Came a voice from the Blue Lion that was very much familiar, it sounded almost exactly like Rei Ayanami.
"If that's the case wonder girl why is the planet red now?!" Came the voice of none other than Asuka much to Misato's shock.
"Yeah last, I check didn't Earth have green landmasses scattered around?" Came the older voice of Toji from the Yellow Lion.
"Toji?" Sakura Suzuhara asked shocked to hear her older brothers voice after fourteen years.
"I don't know but if it's like this we're already short on time as is." Rei said making it clear that they had to act fast. "Shinji-kun if Unit-01 is here and the Earth is red now then we need to destroy Unit-01 before it could be used to make the damage permanent." Rei said much to the WILLE crews shock.
"Shinji?!" Misato nearly gasped as this was bad this was really bad.
"I know, as much as it might hurt taking this EVA out is better than the alternative." Shinji said his voice sounded an octave or two higher than his fathers. More so the tone he used it was a commanding tone suggesting that Shinji had grown up in more than age.
"Then what's the play!?" Asuka asked ready for some action.
"Weapons hot focus fire on the container we need to make sure that the EVA is destroyed at all costs." Shinji ordered much to the shock to all the members of the Wundur's command crew.
"RIGHT!" came the responses from the four other robot lions. They saw the Lions move in to attack the container that contained Unit-01 inside it.
"Commander, what are your orders?" Hyuga asked, glancing to the stunned Misato who did not except this to ever happen.
However, Misato refocused her thoughts and got down to business. "Have Mana and Mari intercept them and stop them at all costs!" Misato ordered knowing they had to prevent the destruction of Unit-01 if they wanted a power source for the Wundur to take flight.
"Yes ma'am!" Came Midori who was grinning at the thought of being able to snuff out the idiotic genocidal bastard who took everything from her.
(Back to the space battle)
Shinji had grown up after 14 years of being lost in space and piloting Voltron. He grew into the role of the leader of Voltron leading his team to many victories both total and hollow. Now that they had built up a sizable level of allies, they were able to return to Earth to save it from NERV and their true masters. Of course, what Shinji had hoped to come back too was in fact a parody of its original self.
The Earth was completely red now and no doubt like the sea could not support life as it was. The Planetary scan had showed that there was life in small patches, but this made the situation all the dire. Taking out Unit-01 might make them the enemy of NERV but denying their enemies that monster was the only chance they had for an edge.
The Lions flew around the container holding Unit-01 and fired off their beams at it from their maws. They tore through the container with each wave flying around to get every bit so they can get an opening to the EVA inside. The container was tough that much was certain, but their lions were tougher. So, with this in mind they continued their assault up until they were fired upon by the approaching EVA Units.
"Shit!" Asuka cursed as she saw that the EVA units were attacking them right now.
"Why they firing on us?" Kensuke asked caught by surprise by this event.
"Doesn't matter, evasive maneuvers keep conflict to disarmament only." Shinji ordered making sure his team knew that they had to go non-lethal against the attacking EVA Pilots.
"Right." The others responded and in turn they began their counterattack. Flying around open space it was clear the Lions had the upper hand against these EVA's despite the pilots being unaware of events that had been happening on Earth. Flying about the EVA Units could not get a proper targeting formula on the lions and thus most if not all their shots had missed.
Just then the red lion zoomed in was on Unit-02 Dash before it can attack. What followed was the red EVA having its arm bit down on as the red lion attempted to disarm its attack. "Shit!" Mana cursed as she felt the phantom pain travelling through her body from the lion as it attacked. "Mari get this thing off me!" Mana called but looking away she saw a different issue with her mission partner.
"I'm busy at the moment." Mari cursed as the blue lion was attacking her at the moment. It seemed to have an ice beam at its disposal for the fight.
Meanwhile Shinji, Toji, and Kensuke went after the container as they prepared to end this war once and for all. "This is for the Earth!" Shinji snarled and in turn had his next order. "Focus fire find the core and shatter it!" Shinji ordered and thus Toji and Kensuke understood.
"Right." Toji and Kensuke both responded before the black, yellow, and green lions all proceeded to open fire on the container holding Unit-01 inside it. The beams hit and for a moment it seemed like all would be lost now.
(Meanwhile over with WILLE command)
"No!" Misato cursed realizing that if they lose Unit-01 the Wundur would lose any chance of taking flight. "Establish contact with them now!" Misato ordered as she didn't know if this was Shinji or not but if it was, she had to stop him. But in the minds of WILLE mainly the younger generations they intend to make Shinji answer for his crimes against humanity.
"We're trying but." Midori began until a new alert popped up.
"New enemy contact the container was booby trapped!" Hideki called out and thus all eyes went to the screens.
(Back to the combat zone)
Two parts of the container began to unfold and attack the three lions forcing them to move out of the way. "Dammit." Shinji cursed as they dodged the oncoming attack.
"That thing had an angel attached to it!?" Kensuke asked shocked at what he saw.
"Of course, Gendo wouldn't let anything happen to his prized asset." Shinji growled and knew they needed to change plans.
"Just give the word Shinji!" Toji said ready for what came next.
With a nod Shinji open the comm links to contact the others. "Asuka, Rei pull off from your attack." Shinji began before glaring at the angel before him. "It's time." He finished and thus all five of the pilots knew what this meant.
(Back over on the Wundur)
"What are they doing?" Ritsuko asked as the red and blue lions pulled off from their attacked and regrouped with the other three lions.
"Regrouping but why?" Midori asked trying to figure out why the Lions would focus on the angel attached to the container.
"We're about to find out." Misato said knowing they could only watch at this point. "Have support sent to the pilots and be ready to stop them." Misato said knowing that Shinji was trying to destroy Unit-01 and WILLE had to stop him from it.
(Back to the Space Battle)
"Alright Paladins on me FORM VOLTRON!" Shinji ordered and thus with a roar the Black Lion began to glow in which the other four followed suit. The Black Lion was the leader of this pride and in turn lead the four as they flew away to make themselves some room.
(Back over on the Wundur)
"They're flying away?" Sumire asked in confusion as the lions flew high into the open space.
"No this is something else." Misato said realizing that more was at work here. Just then the five lions exploded in brilliant light. "Zoom in! Show what's happening!" Misato ordered, and the monitor zoomed in on what was happening.
(Back to the space battle)
The Lions reached the apex and soon began what would be the first stage in Earths counterattack. With a blast of light something new began to take shape.
(Forming Voltron)
Black Lion roared out as it flew forward with its arms folding into the needed sections. First it folded backward before folding into the container units and once secured Black Lion began to take on a more humanoid look. Then Green and Red Lion flew in as they flew upward leaving behind a trail of energy in there colors as when they did their legs began to fold up and secure themselves to form the arms of Voltron as once, they did they flew off to continue the formation.
Next up was Yellow and Blue Lion as they flew in and began to fold up their legs to be secured and become more leg like themselves as once, they were secured they now looked more like legs. They were now ready for the finishing touches as they got ready to form up with their prides leader the Black Lion. Red Lion attached first as once it was in the socket a connecter shot out and not only secured the arm but also made sure it was usable as this caused the Red Lion to extend a bit to be the right arm of Voltron.
Green Lion was the next to connect as its back shield was now the shoulder pad for Voltron as once Green Lion was in the socket the connection was made and secured in turn allowed the arm to extend a bit to better form the arm like with Red Lion. As this was done Green Lion roared out. Once this was done Blue and Yellow Lions began to form the legs as when they did it was shown that once the Black Lions rear legs were inside Blue and Yellow Lions it began to seal up to both connect and secure the connection as once it did and both legs were secured the transformation was almost done.
Now that the body was formed Black Lion's head was now ready as the yellow eyes then flashed as the maw opened up as first the crown formed and in turn the maw opened up to reveal the face of Voltron as soon Voltron formation was done. When the formation was done Voltron then crashed the mass of Red and Yellow Lions before splitting them apart while a current of energy went through them. Voltron then struck a pose with legs and wings spread and the right arm pointed upward before releasing a burst of Quintessence that formed the Galaxy behind it in turn as Voltron was ready for battle.
(End formation)
The Robot called Voltron entered the battle as Mana and Mari were both shocked at what they were seeing here. The five robot lions had combined to form a giant robot that was now flying through space. Voltron and the Angel glared each other down with Voltron staying out of the Angels reach and the Angels form circling around Unit-01 protecting it. WILLE had dealt with the previous defenses and now this Angel was the last line of defense to protect Unit-01. Alas the angel has never faced a foe like Voltron, and it was about to learn that the hard way.
The Angel made the first move and sent its tendrils at Voltron. Voltron spun and avoided the attacks with ease showing that unlike the EVA, it can easily maneuver itself in space. This could also be argued that the superior technology that made Voltron gave him the edge in battle. Voltron then proceeded to move in opting for the Angel to attack the giant robots. Voltron then held both hands forward, the red and green lions, and fired a beam from both maws into the Angel causing it great pain before it could form its AT-Field.
"We need to end this thing now." Shinji said knowing full well that as long as Unit-01 exists then reality itself was in danger. "FORM SWORD!" Shinji roared and thus inserting a handle like weapon into a slot in his cockpit Shinji turned it like a key in the ignition. Voltron in response slammed the red and green lions together before moving outward with energy forming between them. Soon a single edged sword was formed that's edge was giving off a neon blue glow.
With a roar the pilots charged in and cleaved through the angel with the sword taking it out with each slice. Cut down to size the Angel did not last long against Voltron before the robot arrived at the container holding Unit-01 inside of it.
WILLE was then reminded of what Voltron was here to do when the robot switched his grip on his sword to a reverse grip. The blade no pointed downward with Voltron standing on the cross shaped container ready to skewer it and the target inside.
(At the same time WILLE)
"Midori is communication linked yet?!" Misato asked as she knew they had to stop them before it was too late. Mana and Mari were too far away to intercept, and words were literally their last method to stop this robot.
"I switched to an open channel call them now!" Midori called out and thus Misato hoped they would listen to her.
"SHINJI STOP DON'T DO IT!" Misato yelled just as Voltron thrusted. Thankfully, it seems the communication link went through as the tip of Voltron's blade stopped inches away from the container holding the EVA.
"Misato?" Came the voice of Shinji on the other end of the line surprising Misato.
All was quiet for a bit as Misato wasn't sure how to respond to Shinji. Ritsuko seeing this knew Misato had to keep Shinji talking or at least talk him out of what he was about to do. "Are you going to answer him?" Ritsuko asked as she nudged Misato.
Misato blinked before taking the mic. "Shinji? Is that really you?" Misato asked regaining her tone as a commanding officer.
"Yeah, and whatever NERV thinks its doing letting Unit-01 remain is a mistake." Shinji said making it clear he was here to destroy the EVA. "We need to destroy it before Gendo can use it for his goals." Shinji said but had more to say. "I know what I'm saying goes against all you think NERV is but." Shinji began but then Misato cut him off.
"Shinji we're not NERV." Misato almost snapped but had to keep her cool to remind herself that Shinji has been away for a long time.
"What?" Asuka's voice was heard this time as she was surprised when Misato said this.
"We're WILLE our mission is to destroy NERV and its EVA Units." Misato explained to Shinji hoping Mari and Mana can move in to intercept Voltron and the container.
On the screen Voltron eased back but kept his sword drawn ready to slice into the Container and destroy it. "If that's the case then why are you trying to stop us from destroying Unit-01?" Shinji asked wanting answers here. Clearly there was a loss of information between the two sides before Toji's voice cut in.
"I'd answer before we just go ahead and sliced the giant purple end bringer in two." Toji said making it clear they would do it without a moment's hesitation.
"Big brother?" Sakura asked shocked to hear her Toji's voice after her elder brother had vanished during the near third impact over fourteen years ago.
"We don't have time to explain but we need you to stand down and let us take the EVA." Misato said silently signaling the crew to pay attention to her.
All was silent for a moment as for a moment it seemed that Voltron was going to end it regardless. Mana and Mari were almost within range of attack and Misato looked ready to issue the order to the pair. But then Shinji's next words caught her and WILLE by surprise.
"Alright." Shinji said catching everyone off guard. Misato gave a signal to cancel the attack order with her hand sliding across her neck. "Send over the coordinates we'll aid in delivering the cargo to its destination." Shinji said much to the crews utter shock. "But once we land… we're going to talk." Shinji said making it clear that discussion was going to be had.
"Very well, sending coordinates now." Misato said and in turn made one last sigh. "See you soon." Misato finished and in turn ended the call. On their screen they saw Voltron split back into the five lions and fly around the container taking a position around it to ease the transport of it to Earth.
At the same time the Red Lion flew towards Unit-01 while the Blue Lion went for Mari and her EVA to help them safely land on the planets surface. It looked like a convoy but for many it looked like the two lions were carrying the EVA's like they were cubs. It would have been funny if the situation were not as it was here.
"Misato are you sure about this?" Ritsuko asked as they cannot afford to make a mistake about this.
"I want a security team ready to accompany me, we'll take them down and capture those machines." Misato said making it clear that even though Shinji was helping them they cannot trust him not after the near third Impact fourteen years ago.
"I see, the teams will be ready for retrieval." Ritsuko said and in turn Misato knew they needed to get answers out of these arrivals.
(Scene Break the landing sight)
Several hours later WILLE forces had arrived at the scene of the landing sight. The Castle ship had landed not too far from the scene while the Lions were sitting in a circle. At the center of it Misato saw that it was Shinji, Asuka, Rei, Toji, and Kensuke. All of them had aged these past 14 years and were now likely 28 years old. They were each dressed in white armor sleek and smooth and from what Misato saw they were color coded to match the lions they piloted.
Asuka seemed to be wearing an eye patch suggesting she still had the angel inside her. But something was not right about it, in fact the eye patch almost looked like it served no purpose beyond display for the girl. Rei's hair had grown a great deal while Shinji's own had grown enough to make a tail from it. Toji seemed to have shortened his hair a tad while Kensuke seemed more or less the same.
Nothing came from the castle for the time being, but Misato could see that clearly more was at work here. Regardless they had an EVA to retrieve and now possibly a fugitive to apprehend. The plan would be simple Misato would meet with them first and then security teams would come out to apprehend Shinji and the other pilots. Misato needed to know that Toji, Kensuke, and Asuka were no threats before letting them go but Rei and Shinji extra measures needed to be taken.
The VTOLS landed and from there Misato stepped out and got the groups attention on her. "Misato." Shinji said as he approached Misato. "Its good to see you again." Shinji said his demeanor showed a confidence that he did not have fourteen years ago.
"You've grown." Misato said surprised at how much Shinji grew.
"Yeah, it took us Fourteen years, but we made it back." Asuka said with a smirk on her face showing she was happy to be back on Earth… or what she is assuming is Earth.
"Speaking of… can someone explain to me why the Planet surface is as red as mars?" Shinji asked with concern for what had happened in these past fourteen years. When Shinji had asked his question, the tension had suddenly thickened as Misato knew that it was now time to act.
"About that… that why we need to apprehend you, Shinji." Misato said and just then the vehicles opened up and security teams came out with weapons on the group. Shinji was wide eyed by this, but it seems the Paladins were quick on the uptake.
Asuka activated a weapon that formed not a whip which she used to nab one of the soldiers guns and threw it to Rei. Rei had the rifle trained while Asuka's weapon in a flash shifted to one, she had used against Clockiel when she first arrived in Japan fourteen years ago.
Panic set in as Toji gained his own weapon in a flash which turned out to be a minigun after he kicked away a few WILLE soldiers. Kensuke had what appeared to be some sort of launcher on his arm that he pointed around ready to fight. Shinji's weapon formed into a side arm as he aimed it with intention to defend himself from any possible assault here.
The Tension increased as clearly WILLE was not as friendly as the group thought them to be. Misato found the gun pointed at her as she had her gun pointed at Shinji. The others had their own weapons armed as clearly this had become a Mexican standoff between both sides.
"Drop it." Asuka ordered as she was ready to fight her way out of their current situation.
"You, first." A soldier from WILLE responded but he could not fire as Shinji had Misato at gunpoint and vice versa.
"Misato what is going on here?" Shinji asked as he took a good look at Misato and seeing someone, he did not want to see in her.
"Your being brought in for your role in the near Third Impact." Misato said as she avoided using Shinji's name.
"Near Third Impact?" Asuka asked as Rei tensed from that.
"Back up Shinji didn't cause Third Impact he couldn't have." Toji said as Shinji was with them when the alleged Impact incident had taken place.
"Of course, he couldn't have." Asuka said with a growl as from her tone she did not like the fact Shinji had guns pointed at him.
"We all saw you so don't you dare try to lie!" A soldier snapped as then Rei spoke up.
"We?" Shinji asked glaring at the soldier finding his words to be hollow.
"He means Misato and the command staff of WILLE." Ritsuko said as she appeared on the scene. "As well as one of our pilots." Ritsuko said as Shinji began to put the pieces together.
"That's rich coming from you." Rei suddenly said as all eyes fell to her. "If Shinji had triggered the Impact, then it was activated but not controlled by Shinji." Rei said as she stepped up to the plate. "Shinji, Asuka, Toji, Kensuke-kun, and I were transported halfway across the Universe when the Impact took place." Rei said making it clear what had happened. "If it had truly happened then Shinji only turned it on, the EVA did the rest by itself without his input." Rei said but had more to say. "But Shinji is hardly guilty of the Impact." Rei said adding in the fact that Misato was clearly withholding information from them.
"What are you talking about?" Misato asked but then Rei showed her.
"You can do it, Shinji!" Rei said repeating Misato's words from all that time ago. Misato froze, her eyes going wide as all eyes were on her for a moment. "Do it because this is what you want!" She continued before changing her tone to her normal one. "He lost consciousness for a time, but I did not, and I heard all that you said." Rei said revealing that she was aware of what happened that day or had a good idea at least.
The WILLE soldiers were now nervous as Misato looked shocked for a moment when those words were said.
The group saw Misato's hand falter, twitching slightly as various emotions ran across her face. She narrowed her eyes and reaffirmed her grip on her gun.
"Don't you dare try to lay this at my feet." Misato whispered viciously to Rei. "What happened with Unit 01 was Shinji's fault and his fault alone. If I had known…." Misato began but Rei cut her off again.
"But you did know! You were at the ground zero of Second Impact so of course you would recognize the same situation from back then." Rei countered revealing that she knew of that as well. "Despite that you still gave Shinji the approval." Rei said which forced Misato to stay quiet no longer able to counter.
"Be that as it may he was still." Ritsuko began but it was Asuka who spoke next.
"It was still you who gave him the EVA to begin with." Asuka said glaring at Ritsuko now. "You designed the damn thing, you worked on it; and considering you were sleeping with his father you knew what the EVA was able to do." Asuka said now putting Ritsuko on the fire.
"You take that back!" Maya snapped revealing she was part of the group to meet them.
"Truth hurts, doesn't it?" Asuka taunted as it was clear a firefight was about to take place between the sides.
Shinji then looked at Misato in the eyes and through the goggles she did not see Misato… instead he saw Gendo. Knowing he had to stop a needless fight Shinji had to make the hard call for the team.
"Paladins stand down." Shinji ordered much to everyone's shock.
"Wait what?" Toji asked shocked by the order.
"Shinji!" Rei added wanting to argue against this decision.
"We can't afford any conflict right now." Shinji said making it clear that they had bigger issues to worry about. "If us surrendering keeps the peace fine but we have refuges on the ship that are in need of aid." Shinji said making it clear that he was only surrendering to help keep said peace. "We'll go quietly but those refugees need help and most of all we need to have a talk." Shinji said making it clear that this was not up for negotiation.
Seeing that Shinji made the call the group proceeded to call off their weapons and put their hands up to surrender. Shinji has not lead them astray so they had no reason to believe that he would do so now. But as Shinji glared at Misato, he could not help but feel pity and rage for her. Pity that she was becoming more like his father and rage that he turned her into a scapegoat. Still with Voltron on Earth they can now stand a fighting chance against the true masters that controlled NERV.
