A Cake for Mallow

Summary: Lillie wanted to surprise her girlfriend with a home baked cake for her birthday. Too bad she doesn't know how.
"Let's see: Eggs? Check. Milk? Check. Flour? Check!"
Lillie surveyed the gathered ingredients, making sure she had everything she needed. Once she was satisfied, she turned to Hobbes.
"Thanks for getting everything. This is bound to be the best cake ever!"
"Are you sure you don't want my help?" Her butler asked, but Lillie shook her head.
"Thanks, but I want to do this on my own."
"Very well, then," Hobbes said, leaving with a bow. Once she was alone, Lillie turned to the gathered ingredients.
"Alright, time to make Mallow the best cake ever!"
Of course, Lillie had never baked a cake before. In fact, she had never prepared food of any kind before, aside from a simple sandwich. But that wasn't going to stop her from baking her girlfriend the best birthday cake ever.
"Vul!"
Lillie smiled as Snowy hopped up onto the counter beside her.
"Aw, do you want to be my assistant baker?"
Snowy nodded, smiling as Lillie stroked her fur.
"Alright then, let's bake her a cake to remember!"
"Vul!"
A while later, Lillie had her cake in the oven, and was working on the buttercream frosting.
"Alright, once this is whipped up, it says I need to chill it. Snowy, that's where you come in!"
Snowy nodded. Suddenly, the oven timer went off.
"Already? Wow, time flies."
Lillie opened the oven door, and was just about to pull the cake out when a glob of batter hit her on the cheek. Confused, she turned to find the bowl of frosting spinning around wildly, the mixer still going at full blast.
"Oh!"
Forgetting all about the cake, she slammed the oven shut and ran to the mixer, quickly setting it right and ending the stream of batter flying everywhere. Once everything was set straight, both Lillie and Snowy breathed a sigh of relief.
"Phew! That was a close one."
"Vul."
They didn't get to relax for too long, because the smoke alarm soon went off, jolting Lillie awake.
"AH, the cake!"
"VUL!"
Mallow whistled happily as she reached Lillie's mansion. Her girlfriend had texted her earlier to come there at 3 for her birthday surprise, and she couldn't wait. She didn't know what it could be, but considering it was Lillie, she knew it was great.
But as she entered the building, she heard crying coming from the kitchen. Very familiar crying…
"Lillie? Lillie!"
In a panic, she rushed into the kitchen to find it a mess. Cake batter was everywhere, scorched pans littered the sink, and in the center of it all was Lillie, her hair messed up as she sobbed uncontrollably, Snowy doing her best to comfort her. In an instant, Mallow swooped in, pulling Lillie into her arms and letting the blonde haired girl cry into her chest until she could collect her thoughts.
"Shhh, shhh, It's okay, I'm here. Just let it all out."
"Oh Mallow, it's horrible! I wanted to surprise you with a cake for your birthday, but everything went so wrong!"
"You tried to bake a cake?"
"Uh huh."
"Why didn't you buy one from the store? Or have Hobbes make you one?"
"Because I wanted to surprise you! You're always making such delicious food for me, I wanted to do this for you for a change. It's your birthday and all, I wanted to make it special."
"You did all of this for me?"
Lillie nodded.
"But now your surprise is ruined…"
Mallow smiled, and pulled Lillie into a passionate kiss. After they pulled away, she gently wiped away the rest of Lillie's tears.
"I appreciate it, really. I'm sure the cake would've been great, but I'm not upset that it's ruined."
"You're not?"
"Of course not! Why would I be upset that my beautiful girlfriend tried to do something for my birthday?"
Lillie smiled, as laughed as Mallow helped her to her feet.
"Tell you what, tomorrow you and I can bake a cake together, the proper way. Then I can teach you how to bake other things. It'll be our new thing!"
"I'd love that."
"Great! But there's one rule."
"What's that?"
"You are not allowed anywhere near a kitchen without supervision until I say so.."
Lillie chuckled, and kissed her on the cheek.
"As long as I have you as a teacher, I'm sure it won't be a problem."
