Foreward
Hello everyone. With great pleasure, I present the first Alien x Regular Show crossover (to my knowledge; correct me if I'm wrong): "Regular Show: The Last Voyage of the Faunus." Since I am sure this is the first of its kind, I thought I'd provide some background information about how I wrote this story and background lore for the events of this story. I have had this idea for a long time now and am now getting around to writing it since I want to be more creative than when I first started writing fan fiction. I first got the idea for the story when I thought there were similarities between some characters in Alien and Regular Show. For example, I thought Pops and Lambert were similar in that they were both rather timid and unassuming, especially when stuff started to get serious. I imagine Pops having a nervous breakdown once the Alien starts picking everyone off. I decided not to make Pops the mighty demigod he is in later seasons. Instead, he is the jovial yet naïve old man he was through most of the show. I made this decision to make more sense in the grander story. Also, Muscle Man and High Five Ghost are similar to Parker and Brett, respectively. Muscle Man and Parker are energetic, hands-on, and love joking around. They both can also come across as rude and abrasive, though their hearts are in the right places. Their partners are also more reserved and down-to-earth. Once I noticed these similarities, it wasn't long before I began to imagine how this situation from Alien would play out with the cast of Regular Show. I even had fun imagining how somebody would bring the Alien on board. I won't tell who brings it on, but if you are all familiar with the show, there is a good chance you know who it is. From there, I knew a crossover between Alien and Regular Show would be a golden opportunity. I might even be a trendsetter because I am the first author to write a crossover of these two media. Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I could not find any other story of the sort.
While this story closely follows the first Alien film, I took some liberties to make the story match with the universe of Regular Show. For example, I decided to rename the ship to something more fitting for a craft under the employment of Park and Forestry Services (the employer in place of Weyland-Yutani Corp). I initially settled on Demeter in reference to the Ancient Greek nature goddess. It would also be nice to give a shout-out to that recent Dracula film. Both stories are even centered around being trapped aboard a ship with a monster. However, I changed the name because Demeter was more strictly related to agriculture rather than nature itself. I eventually settled on naming the ship after Faunus, the Roman god of nature, including forests and fields, making it more fitting for park-related work. Also, in the original film, the Nostromo was tugging mineral ore back to Earth. In this story, the Faunus is transporting park-related materials to the Park in San Diego (after carefully examining the show, I concluded that's the show's setting). These materials include hundreds of bags of dirt and mulch, and exotic plants and trees to be displayed at the Park once the crew arrives back home (Spoiler Alert: That will never happen). The Faunus is not tugging the payload separate from the ship as the Nostromo did in the movie. Instead, the materials are stored on the ship itself, inside of an atmosphere-proof greenhouse. I decided to make this change because I thought it would provide an incredible backdrop for various moments in the story, such as when the Alien makes its first appearance sans the chestburster scene.
Finally, I want to warn you all that this story is not suitable for all audiences. It would be interesting to have the characters swear, mainly in reference to the swearing in the original airings of Regular Show. Aside from the foul language, this story is incredibly intense for a Regular Show fanfic. It starts in the same jovial yet sardonic fashion as a typical Regular Show episode, yet it becomes more dark and horrific as the story progresses. This is in the style of the original Alien film, arguably THE quintessential sci-fi/horror film, and I match the grim tone as best as I am able. I even have most of the cast killed off in bloody fashion until there is one man standing. I won't spoil anything else, but I would advise you all to proceed cautiously. This is not a story for the faint of heart. If anyone is particularly squeamish about violent, bloody deaths, especially for what I'm positive are beloved characters for you all, I would advise you to read no more beyond this forward. If you think your are brave enough to stay, please enjoy it as best as you can, but beware! You have been warned!
Background Lore
With that out of the way, it would be beneficial to provide a backdrop to this story's universe. Ever since man first looked up at the sky, he was curious about what lies beyond this world. This curiosity has led to some of history's important inventions and innovations. The astrolabe has been used to measure the stars, and the works of Copernicus and Galileo have done much work to determine the nature of the relationship between the Sun and Earth. However, the most important event that helped unravel the great mystery of the universe was the advent of space travel in the mid-twentieth century, culminating with the landing of the first man on the moon in July of 1969. This event tantalized the human drive for exploration, reinvigorating our desire to explore beyond the pale of our known world. As the centuries passed, more enterprises have been made to explore the stars. Various corporations were established to help pave the way for exploration into outer space. It was not long before these corporations established routes and pathways through space not only for ease of travel but also to allow for greater profits. New solar systems allowed for new materials to be extracted. These companies spearheaded resource extraction operations for the benefit of scientists eager to study these exotic specimens. Many prospectors were keen to join these operations since they could claim the honor of discovering a new species and receiving an exorbitant raise in pay as specified in their contract with a corporation. Along key areas within our solar system and beyond, the corporations established intergalactic space stations to cater to the needs of the various space travelers, for a price set by the corporation. While these corporations received criticism for this Usery, they continued to help humanity branch out through the far corners of space.
As space flight became more sophisticated, it led to various key innovations, the most important of which is temporal stasis, or hypersleep, as it was more commonly called. This allowed spacefarers to sleep in perfect stasis through the comparatively slow and laborious journey through space. This meant that a traveler could travel thousands of light years and awaken in the same condition as when they entered hypersleep. As expected, stasis allowed humanity to travel further into space than possible in several lifetimes.
This vast expansion led to a keen interest in many new materials and lifeforms discovered throughout the universe. Many people saw how these items from space could be used to benefit humanity further. According to many, answers to various questions, such as renewable energy, could be found out there. By the time the story is set, 2122, many preexisting organizations developed their space programs to find ways in which the vast resources of space could be used to benefit them. One of these was the United States Parks and Forestry Service. They used their space wing to explore the galaxy for exotic flora be studied or even displayed in parks for public recreation. Our story begins aboard one of these vessels: The USPFS Faunus. After another successful extraction and more exotic forestry to demonstrate to the excited masses, the Faunus again found itself slowly drifting toward Earth.
