So I had an idea and just rolled with it. I can't remember the songs exactly that I was listening to that made the idea form, but I hope you all enjoy. This will be Dawn's introduction and I think the next chapter I'll have it as Ash's. But I only own the idea, not the characters of Pokemon only any OCs.
Having left an abusive marriage and looking to start again, Dawn Berlitz moves back to her hometown with her child. There, she meets Ash Ketchum who has recently moved to Sinnoh after his wife left. Can the two of them heal one another and combine their two families?
A young woman with sapphire blue hair and eyes to match laid awake in the middle of the night. She laid as still as she could so she wouldn't disturb the man asleep beside her. Her name was Dawn Berlitz and the man was her husband, Paul.
She couldn't believe what had happened tonight. She had always found ways to excuse the behavior. The things that were thrown and narrowly missing her: she had always said he wouldn't ever hit her with it on purpose. The way he would corner her and get in her face and trap her: she had always told herself it was to get his point across. Whenever he would raise his hand: his hand never hit her because he would never do that. He loved her so he wouldn't harm her.
But tonight. Tonight he had. Thank Arceus her son had been asleep so he hadn't seen what happened. Tonight didn't go how she had planned for it to.
She had recently gone to the doctor and had found out they were expecting another baby; well twins to be exact. That news hadn't gone over well for him and he had lost his temper. She was cornered and berated as to why her birth control had failed. That she must not have taken it right because they had been careful. But apparently not careful enough and now were expecting twins.
She had been trying her hardest to deescalate the situation, but it had only made him angrier. Before she knew what was happening, his hand was around her throat and she was being lifted off the ground. She had clawed at his hand and cried. Her attempts to get him to let her go were pointless.
The only reason she hadn't passed out had been because of his phone ringing.
"Get rid of those." he had said.
She was on the floor, her hand on her throat as she gasped for air. She stared at him in shock.
"Or I will."
He walked away and pulled out his phone. The look in his eyes and the tone...That hadn't been just a threat. It was a promise.
The rest of the night, she had kept herself busy and made sure she stayed away from him.
While he had been busy doing whatever, she had snuck into her son's room and packed a duffle bag of his things. Then she had did the same to her own things. She would leave tonight. She wouldn't risk her safety or her children.
She was pulled out of the memory by a shift on the bed. She glanced over at the man and sighed in relief as she saw he was still fast asleep.
She reached over and grabbed her phone to see the time which showed that it was three in the morning.
It had been long enough. He was deep asleep and shouldn't wake up at anything.
She slipped out from the bed and hurried out of the bedroom. She crept to her son's room and held her breath as she hoped the door wouldn't creak tonight. She released her breath, and thanked Arceus that it remained quiet and walked into the room.
"Sweetie?" she said, softly and shook his shoulder.
"Mommy?"
"Hey. Come on baby, we need to go."
"What? Why?"
"Shh...just slide your slippers on and be quiet. We're gonna go see Granna."
Sleepily nodding his head, he obeyed and sat up. As he hopped off his bed, she grabbed the two duffle bags.
"Ready?" she asked.
He nodded and followed along after her.
"What about Dad?"
"Dad's got work, sweetie."
As she walked out of the house and towards the car, she looked back over her shoulder once at the house and the life she was about to leave behind.
"I have to protect my children. They can't be next." she said softly.
She made sure that her son was buckled up safely before she tossed the bags in the trunk.
As she pulled out of the driveway, she dialed her mom.
"Dawn?" her mom's sleepy voice answered on the second ring.
"Hey mom, sorry to wake you."
"Sweetie, it's late. What's wrong?"
"I'm coming to see you with Chase. We need to come and stay."
"Dawn, is everything okay?"
"I'll see you in a few hours, mom. I'm gonna turn my phone off so I won't be able to call. But I wanted to let you know before we got there."
Her mom must have heard something in her voice because her tone changed with what she said next. She was still worried, but she knew that Dawn couldn't be on the phone. "Okay Dawn, I'll see you in a few hours. Be safe and I love you."
"I love you, mom."
She ended the call and as she stopped at the stop sign to leave the neighborhood, she picked up her phone and turned it off. As she drove and got onto the highway, she tossed the phone out her window.
Glancing in the rearview she saw that Chase had fallen back asleep. His sapphire blue hair was falling into his eyes and his mouth was slightly parted as he slept.
He couldn't continue to grow up and see the fighting and she couldn't let him see her getting hurt. She wouldn't let him be next, either.
Chase was still young, so hopefully he wouldn't be impacted too much by what he had seen. He was seven already and she didn't want him to grow up seeing anything else or to suffer from his father's hands. She wanted him to be able to be a big brother to his twin siblings. Dawn would do everything she could to make sure all three were kept safe from harm.
At about five fifteen, Dawn was pulling into the driveway of her mother's home. She had arrived back to her hometown of Twinleaf Town. A small little town with not many people, but big enough that if you needed help the community came together like a village.
She parked her car and got out to stretch her body before she went to get Chase. The front door opened and she saw her mom walk out in her pajamas and her robe.
"Here, I'll help you get your things inside." her mom said as she walked to the trunk.
Dawn gently woke Chase up.
"Hey, we're here at Granna's. Let's get inside and you can go back to sleep."
He nodded his head and hopped out of the car. He waved sleepily to his Granna and walked up to the front door. Dawn grabbed her purse from the front and shut the doors and locked her car. Her mom was following behind her with the duffle bags in her hands.
"I'm gonna get him situated in the room then I'll be back down." Dawn said as her mom nodded.
Dawn walked into the room where Chase was and kissed his forehead.
"Get some sleep, baby. I love you,"
"I love you, momma."
Dawn closed the door and walked back downstairs and found her mom on the couch with two mugs of tea on the coffee table.
Dawn sighed and flopped down on the couch before she leaned up to reach for one of the mugs.
Her mother gasped.
"Dawn..." she said softly.
Dawn looked over and saw that her mom's eyes were on her neck.
"Did...He...Paul...That..."
Shock and anger showed on her mom's face.
"Tell me everything."
Dawn sighed and leaned back against the cushions of the couch and took a sip of the tea.
"I always knew he had anger issues, but I always excused all the instances before."
"There were more?!"
Her mom looked livid.
"None like this. Just throwing things that would never hit me. He cornered me and yelled at me. Slapping the counters or punching the walls. A lot of things were my fault."
Dawn grabbed her purse and rummaged through it. She pulled out the positive pregnancy test and showed her mom.
"This is what set him over the edge. I'm pregnant with twins. He was so angry and before I knew what was happening he had me pinned to the wall and I couldn't breathe. The only thing that saved me from passing out was a phone call on his cell. He told me I had to get rid of them or he would. I knew I had to get out. I couldn't risk him hurting me again or worse. Hurting these babies or Chase."
Dawn looked at her mom and broke down, finally letting the tears fall freely.
"Shhh..." her mother said and hugged her close.
"We'll go to the police. We'll get you a lawyer and custody. We'll go to the doctor too and make sure the babies are safe, too."
Her mom wiped the tears from her daughter's face.
"We do need to probably get some pictures in case any of these markings fade. Although it's most likely going to bruise."
"I probably have some of his DNA under my nails, too."
"We need to go to the police right away then so nothing is lost. We're going to need everything to get him."
"But Chase..."
"Give me just a moment and I'll have someone over here to watch him."
Dawn nodded her head.
