2. Chapter 2

Reaper of Rome chapter 2- battles, falls and rises

This chapter will cover ichigo's fight with Renji and Byakuya and the aftermath and road to next journey.

I will cover the events of 16[back [part]-20

Rukia pov

I was faced by Renji, a man a thought was my old friend until he swung a zanpakuto at me. he seemed to want to kill me as he called me too lax and as he asked about Ichigo. As I denied the fact, I gave my powers to the boy I may or may not love. He kept asking about my gigai as he called out to my brother. I soon turned around to see the very man behind me. my red-haired former friend then told me that giving my powers was sin worthy of death and said that they were going to execute me. Renji then was prepared to attack me if I didn't tell him where Ichigo really was. I then kept dodging his attacks until a light arrow came streaking past his head as Uryu prepared to defend me. As the glasses boy prepared to defend me, my had to be former friend prepared to kill us both.

Ichigo pov

I then worried about Rukia as was about to go to sleep. As I heard noises from Kon and found him behind my toilet and then he revealed Rukia left and left a note on my desk. He pretty much said Rukia left for good. I then checked her not to find it pretty much unreadable until I noticed it was a code and that I had to figure out said code. I then decoded it to learn that Rukia had to leave, and I had to hide and burn the letter. Kon then figured she must be in trouble with the soul society. I then I to battle Kon over the pill to eject my soul so I could prepare to save Rukia. But before I had to get the pill out of Kon, a strange man with an equally strange hat helped eject my soul.

Rukia pov

The battle between the quincy and Renji didn't end well with my former friend not taking very long to bring him down. but before he could deal the fatal blow to either of us Ichigo came in to defend me. Right away Renji asked who Ichigo was and why his blade was so large. Renji then confirmed what I only guessed in the fact that his blade was so large because Ichigo has so much spirit energy. Then Renji soon figured Ichigo took my powers and began to attack my friend. Ichigo started to put up a good fight, but Renji won with speed alone. As the red-haired soul reaper got a good hit on my orange haired companion. He then pretty much stated that Rukia came alone to protect me and started to boast but Ichigo used the time to get a good hit on Renji's chin.

It was then my brother talked about all Ichigo did as Renji wasn't sure he could really fight back or do what he did. But as Ichigo seemed to gain ground Renji released his blade and attacked his stronger blade. Then he seemed to bring Ichigo down with a bloody slash across his back and shoulder. Renji also revealed to me his blade was named Zabimaru. It made me wonder how he advanced past me in zanpakuto level. I knew I was close to shikai but in my current state hadn't made much progress. As Ichigo fell, I wondered why he never gained shikai.

Ichigo pov

As I tried to recover from the last attack, Rukia tried to use her body to defend me as the moonlight washed over my body and helped it recover, but Rukia just wanted to be run. But my hunter's instincts gave me more power. Then I managed to get two good attacks on the red-haired boy. I knew my mother was helping by flooding my body with just enough power to fight and this was all she could do to help me. the man then showed me the power of his zanpakuto and that it could extend but with the power boost I was getting it was moving slowly. But right when I was about to win, I noticed my zanpakuto was missing most of its length.

It took me a breath to figure out that the dark-haired man broke my blade and was about to attack me. He then moved at high speed and then I noticed the attack that seemed to hit me in a few places at once. As the man called me slow then Renji insinuated that he could have defeated me on his own. Then when Rukia tried to save me again Renji nearly put her in a chock hold as I was barely holding on. The very last thing I heard was the dark-haired man Rukia called brother say, "this young man does indeed look like him."

Rukia pov

It was then I wondered if how closely Ichigo looked like the man, I knew that he got up and tried to fight my brother all over again. but I knew the best way to save him now as my brother prepared to attack again was to kick Ichigo off him myself and openly reject him no matter how much it hurt my heart. How much it hurt to call him a lowly human. How much it hurt to ask to be taken back my force. How much it hurt to say I would never forgive him if he chased me back. but I also wanted him to save me to see if he could gain the power to do so. I wanted the chance to say know if I loved him or not.

Ichigo pov

As I couldn't move, I watched Rukia and the other two walk through the strange Japanese mansion door and wanted to try and chase after, I wanted that moment alone to learn who the man mentioned was and if Rukia meant what she said. I then cried in my own powerlessness as the main began to fall. The last thing I saw before passing out was the man with the strange hat and wood shoes looking over me with an umbrella.

The next thing I felt was my body free of pain then the next thing I saw was a dark-skinned man was a stash and glasses. He then confirmed I was okay as I got up in pain. I then learned the man's name was Urahara and that he saved me. Then I asked what happened to Uryu to learn he was okay enough to walk home on his own. Then I learned that Uryu wanted me to save Rukia, but I wasn't sure if I really could do so. The man then revealed he could help me get to the soul society to help Rukia on the condition that he trained me to really fight and save Rukia.

The man then said to me "you can't win as you are now, but I will help you integrate your legion training with the power you have as a soul reaper. Also don't worry, I met with Lupa to tell her you won't be able to return to help Jason finish his mission. But Jason's is mostly support, the real person that needs to win is in New York city." I then wondered what he meant as the cane seemed to turn into a blade. He then told me I was weak and had at least a month to train and try and save Rukia. Then he said "if you are really lucky you may have time to return to Rome and see Jason before the summer ends. He said "ten days for training, seven days for me to recover while I wait for him to open the gate and two weeks to save Rukia. He said those ten days I would be brought between the lines of life and death.

Before I got into my training, I returned to normal school life to know I would start training soon. Then at the end of the day I called the praetors, and they told me "Try and be back as soon as possible. If you can't use your full power, you will likely die in the raid on the titans' base. If you heart isn't in it, you would be just as useless."

It wasn't long after that, I saw Orihime and Chad meet with a cat that seemed to be talking and then Chad told me said cat would train them. I learned both had gained powers but not what their powers were or how they worked. I also wondered if either one or both were the demigod or legacy Lupa had smelled.

Rukia pov

My return to the soul society ended up being locked up and learning of Renji's promotion. I was taunting my former friend by not eating. I knew I would have to eat sooner or later. But I also got confirmation that I would be executed, part of me knew I should be for what I did to Kaien.I mostly knew I wanted to see if Ichigo would return my feelings. Renji wasn't completely sure if I would die or not.

But a few days later, I learned in twenty-five days I would be killed, and I learned it from my own brother. I knew I would die in a way that would stop reincarnation but part of me wondered why they were going so far to get rid of me. I also overheard, the other captains taking about how my brother wasn't upset and I began to wonder if he really was upset or not as captain Zarakitried to bait him.

Ichigo pov

After school was out for summer break, I went to the shop and learned Urahara had a much larger space under the shop to train. Then we began the first stage of training by removing my soul and forcing me to battle with what looked like a little girl but after one attack she revealed she wasn't just a little girl and a few clashes helped return my ability to run faster and made it easier to breath as a soul and restored my spirit energy.

It was then revealed my second test was having my chain of fate cut and I would have to regain my soul reaper powers or became a hollow. I would have seventy-two hours to try to regain my soul reaper powers in time. I then spent the first day trying to climb out of the pit with no real progress. I could tell only tell time based on the moon but other than that I had no idea.

It was a little later that the red-haired boy in the shop came down and told me I was on my last two hours and after saying that I started to become a hollow. I began to feel intense pain as I tried to hold out with every last bit of power I could. I could tell from what the hat clad man said that what I was doing was working due to how the hollow transformation was happening. It wasn't much longer that I whited out.

Then on waking up, I was on the side of a build with a man clad in black with long hair and black glasses before. He claimed to be crying out to me, but I couldn't hear, and I wondered who he was or where I was now. I soon figured I couldn't float as the man confirmed I had my own soul reaper powers and I needed to find it before the world I was in. which I soon confirmed was my soul world completely shattered. It was then I sank into water and had to try and find the right box before it was soon late. I saw a few gold boxes that seemed to hold my godly powers, but I was sure they weren't what I needed. I then remembered what Uryu held me and that I needed to find a red box much like the red spirit ribbon he showed me before our battle against the hollows. When I did the man showed up again and I figured he was likely the spirit of my zanpakuto as he said I would hear his name soon.

The next moment later I came out of the pit with a mask on my face and then used my zanpakuto to break it off me. it was then Urahara said I completed the lesson, and I then punched his face as he said "lesson three would be to knock off his hat with my blade. I was sure using my godly powers with my newly regained spirit powers I could take the hat off in five minutes' time. But it wasn't long until he revealed his cane was a sword as well. At first, I thought it wasn't a zanpakuto but soon I learned it really was one. When the man cut my mask and then he revealed much like Renji he could change his blade's form by saying its name as well. it changed into a blade what was half black and half white. It was then Urahara revealed each zanpakuto has its own name and i then assumed that the old man was the spirit of mine, and he had a name I couldn't hear yet.

It was then he cut through my zanpakuto and slashed my blade again as he revealed without knowing the blade's name, I couldn't fully use its power. I then kept running as and calling myself pathetic until, I was in my inner world again and the man in black faced me again. I then could tell he was my zanpakuto and I needed to face my fear to be able to hear his name. he told me "Abandon your fear and turn to face him." I then heard his name loud and clear in my head as Zangetsu and shouted it out loud. Said name made me wonder if the connect to the moon. It had to mean I was meant to cut with the moon.

I then let out its power and nearly removed the man's hat. It was a blade much like something I learned barbicans would have a sword without a real hilt. I then prepared to unleash my spirit energy in a burst I couldn't fully control to remove that hat. If the formally hat clad man didn't use the power of his blade, I would have killed him instead of removing the hat. But said burst of power ended up draining me as I passed out.

I later woke up to the taste of chocolate and cod and then figured I was given ambrosia to heal me. when I fully came to the glasses clad man told me, "Did you know imperial gold, moon silver and celestial bronze all can harm spirit beings like hollows and soul reapers. But you would still need to deal the lethal blow with your zanpakuto to purify them. Also, you can freely use the powers of your divine mother even as a soul. I then recounted all the powers I had to change normal objects into blades for my personal use, to use the moonlight to enhance myself like I did in the battle with Renji, ability to talk with animals and to shift my gender at will. I liked being male, but I had changed it a few times to use other baths and bathrooms or get out of other issues as needed. It was after that; I had the night off for the festival and then would spend the next week training with Urahara. As he showed how to battle with my newly released Zangetsu a little bit and said "I can train you a little, but your best training will be when you return to camp. I am sure your mother will have a gift just waiting for you."

After that, I only ended up getting two more days off before the man sent me a message in the form of a blood balloon told me to come right away to the shop. Then my father left me a charm from my mortal mother. When I made it to the shop, I was greeted by Uryu, Chad and Orihime and learned each had trained and gained their own abilities to battle in the soul society. It was after that , the hat clad man revealed a stone gate and that we had only four minutes to get into the soul society or be lost forever.

Next chapter will have Ichigo and his team enter the soul society and make new friends including another crossover character, while learning of their next hurdle to save Rukia.

I decided to return to my index story due to its ease to write and flexibility

But first Toma and Mashiro will have to deal with a new problem in the form of evil magicians plotting in academy city.
