Reaper of Rome chapter 18 – revenge match and mad science
This chapter will cover Renji's battle against the brother of the first arancar he killed and Ichigo getting his chance to battle Grimmjow with my own stuff mixed in
I will cover episodes 161-167
And stop before the Shusuke Amagai filler arc.
But I will use elements of both his filler arc and the bount arc in later in the story post arancar arc but I will deal with that later on
Renji pov
I started the battle against the arrancar and started with my bankai. But right as I tried the attack was canceled out. Then he revealed he knew how to counter my bankai from his brother, the one I defeated a few months ago. He then revealed I no longer have a way to escape or counter him. it wasn't much longer, that I felt Rukia's power spike and then saw a reaction on the glasses arrancar's face as i could tell Rukia won her battle and the person, she defeated shock this man.
I then used that shock to try and attack with my shikai but learned it was useless against him, the man showed me how useless my moves were against him. it wasn't long after that, minion came out and revealed Rukia fought and defeated an espada and that she gained a new power to do so. I could only guess the stab Ichigo gave Rukia infused his power into her.
Ichigo pov
As I ran, I knew Rukia had won her battle using what had to be the hollow powers she gained from both the twins and I and they had been mixed with the powers of what had to be her godly parent. I knew Rukia was alive but didn't really have the energy to fight. I also knew somebody had killed the arancar I had recently fought. I But as soon as I figured this out the black and white arrancar stood before me. I somehow knew his name was Ulquiorra as he talked to my level. He then told mem he forced Orihime to the world of the hollows. I then attacked him that not to work and then released my bankai and hoped that would do the trick. I knew it was best to try and get to Rukia as soon as I could. But doing so would require getting past this guy. It was using my mask that finally pushed the guy back and made him acknowledge me. but he kept countering each attack I used but I was able to win the fight and thankfully after I was done Nel used her spit to heal me up.
But after I was healed the arrancar got up and fired at an attack at me that blew me out of the room and into a sunlight area. I barely managed to keep myself and Nel alive, but I knew I couldn't use my mask for a little while. It was when the arrancar came close, I learned he was the number four among the group as he plunged his hand into my chest and I knew if Nel didn't get to me soon it could be bad
Orihime pov
It was when I thought Rukia was hurt for a moment, I was happy and guessed I could have a chance to be his lover but if the love goddess told the truth she would be fine. It was next I knew Ichigo was in danger and soon after two female arrancar came and seemed to not have good intentions. I knew they were like the girls that bullied me before Tatsuki became my savior. I also wasn't sure I could protect myself from when with how I was feeling now.
Then girls taunted me about everything I had received and soon began to attack me for all the attention I was getting and prepared to get nastier. As they insulted me as they prepared to do more. They asked me to talk, and I asked them to leave but that made them angrier at me. the dark-haired girl then slapped me, I could tell they clearly thought Arrancar were stronger than humans but at the last minute Grimmjow came to save me.
The two then attacked the male arrancar but he soon killed the two girls as they thought Aizen would defend them. when I asked the arrancar why he said it was for me bringing his arm back. he the asked me to help him with a favor as I wondered what it could be.
Renji pov
Even know the arrancar said I couldn't win; I kept trying but was able to make little ground against the glasses donning man. It wasn't long before he summoned minions to aid him and revealed said minions were hollows, he modified and had Aizen convert to arrancars. I was struggling against the large hallow as I couldn't use my bankai.
I was able to do a little to the large hollow but that only seemed to put him into a rage state. But soon Uryu arrived to take out the hollow and I hoped we could win as a team. It was then the skinny hollow that was Nel's friend revealed himself hiding in the wall. When the glasses arrancar learned Uryu was a quincy he just laughed as he knew he could fight him.
But when Uryu got behind the man, I just hoped he could do some damage as he shot the man with an arrow of light. But it seemed to do nothing as the man just laughed the quincy off. as it seemed he had a counter for Uryu as well. Then when the large hollow got up it revealed that Uryu's attacks did nothing to it. as his light bow vanished and I had to defend him. then asked for help to turn this fight around.
Orihime pov
I agreed to help him as long as I could revive the two girls he just attacked. The dark-haired wasn't happy I did so. But even more shocked as I brought back her dead friend then she looked at me like a monster and I shouldn't be able to do that. I knew my skill was unnatural and a step under what the gods could do, I wasn't even sure if I should completely bring a person back from a state of death again and part of me knew trying it in the living world could end in my death. Ichigo recommended the tale of the argonauts to me, and I remembered Asclepius and the fate he suffered for bringing people back from death.
Renji pov
The two of us prepared to try Uryu's gambit and he asked me "how long can you stall?" I replied with twenty second max." but he said that should be enough. I just hoped it would work and we could win. it seemed around us part of that distraction was starting to form with Nel's two honorary brothers. I also used my shikai to wrap up the arrancar so I could get in close enough to use a Hado spell at close range and was able to hurt the man at the very least. But was close to passing out.
But with the last my strength I got to see Uryu's gambit further hurt the damaged arrancar. i hoped it killed him. I then heard that Uryu used western symbols to help make a symbol to draw out enough power to hopefully win. but as we turned around, we learned he was still alive and cursing our names. He revealed his study of the Quincy's power could reduce the damage from fatal to painful. Then he devoured one of his minions to heal himself then he left to change his close and give us a chance to try and figure out a new way to win and more ways for himself to kill us.
Ichigo pov
I woke up in intense pain after Nel used her drool to stabilize me at the very least. Then the next thing I saw was Grimmjow standing over me for and preparing to kill me. but he seemed to want a good fight and had Orihime with him to fully heal me. at first Orihime was having trouble healing me but soon I was able fully wake up and Ulquiorra came to finish me off. before Orihime could finish. But to my luck Grimmjow had enough desire to fight me alone that he would let me be healed and hold off the other espada before.
The two clashed and Grimmjow managed to seal the higher ranked espada away for a limited time. It was after that our battle began, but after the first clash I promised Nel and Orihime I would win this battle. It was during the battle, I learned just how different the two of us were, he wanted revenge while I just wanted to save Orihime and get the rest of my friends out of here and back home. I really wanted to end this entire war and return to camp and finish my time as a legionnaire.
He talked about fighting to live and I would do that, but I just didn't want to fight like him. He wanted me to use my mask, to push me to that level he fired his ultimate Cero at Orihime and Nel, so I had to use my mask to boost my power. but what he didn't figure was in the sand I mixed Moon silver in and used that to attack him. it was after that, I made sure to have Orihime use her strongest shield to defend her but I added a little moon silver dust around as extra insurance.
But at the same time, I told her that Grimmjow unleashed his zanpakuto to take on a cat boy form. but what he didn't know was while focusing on the battle I was chanting my special hado in my head just in case. At the same time of our battle, I could clearly tell we had an audience of some of the female arrancar in the area. I knew I had to try and keep this hado up while trying to defend my mask and the levels of focus were unlike anything I had done before. It was when we hit the dirt, I used the hado I created called thirty pieces of silver to bind the espada. Doing so shattered my mask but I at least had him bound enough time to try and recharge. But sadly, the chains of silver were taking too long to fully bind my enemy. I knew this spell turned his sins against him but it took time and sins and I wasn't sure at this point how really evil as the binding kept slowing him down.
I could tell as the fight kept going that Orihime saw her hollowed brother in me, but I had to try and defend her as I was taking damage, and the chains weren't slowing him down nearly enough. What soon began to help was the screams of Nel. Then soon after Orihime joined and the shouting of the two girls gave me the strength I needed to fuel the chains with my spirit power and fully bind Grimmjow then I used my blade to stab through what I had to be his liver and hoped that would put him down. I then went to the girls but was soon faced with a new arrancar ready to attack me but even I knew I was too spent to fight him now.

As I said I will skip the New Captain of the 3rd Division filler arc but use parts of it for later story to come. I did make some changes to the fight near the end to set up elements coming in the next arc after this
Next chapter will have a secret revealed as help Ichigo and Uryu and Renji have to struggle
But first Katerina and White and team Chaldea will have to deal with the problem of singularities starting to emerge before they can enter the India lostbelt
