My Sister

"You realize there is very little chance for her to wake up with any memories, Mr Kusanagi." The Doctor stated with a grim voice, largely hoping to broom this bag of meat that he is being forced to care for in exchange for a more...valuable patient. "I mean the damage is extensive enough that I doubt she will ever wake up..."

"..." Jun Kusanagi just sat staring at the limp form in the hospital bed, not saying a word.

"Quite honestly she could end up with all the mental abilities of a child," The Doctor continued at the brat's attempt to ignore his good advice. "she could even emerge in a deranged fantasy that is someone else, or even wake up with her memories and no ability to communicate. Which I admit is very doubtful with how much damage was done to the part of her brain that contains memories..."

"..." Jun continued to stare at the form in the bed, his face grim.

"Are you really willing to live your life knowing the person who wakes up in your sister's body would be nothing more than a stranger!?" The Doctor decided to lay it out bluntly for this boy, Tyger Claw or not. He was just wasting their eddies and his time on a fantasy. "This isn't even a human being, just a pile of useless-"

What happened next was brutal, it was violent, and it was final. The Doctor no longer talked down to Jun, he in fact couldn't talk to anyone anymore.

"Fell better..." Fujiwara asked as he walked into the room, his gaze drifting over the corpse of the doctor with a detached calm.

"I won't give up on her..." Jun replied. "It doesn't matter if she wakes up a crazed Cyber Psycho, she will always be my sister."

"...Alright," Fujiwara replied. "we will take care of her, and no one will touch her under our watch,"

"...Thank you sir." Jun replied, not looking at his boss. Not wanting to show the weakness in his eyes, or how truly vulnerable he was right now.

"No need to thank me." Fujiwara stated, knowing that the form in bed will likely never wake, but Jun was a valuable employee and a legacy member of the Tyger Claws. So if it cost some eddies just to keep her stable and in the hospital, it was a small sacrifice to make.

It was doubtful that she would ever wake up, and eventually the boy will realize that she wasn't coming back by himself.

Looking at the frail form in the wheelchair, who looked at him without recognition... Was painful, but not as painful as her absence.

It didn't matter what kind of person his sister had become, what kind of delusions, fantasies, or even alternate personality she may have. He would be here for her, he wouldn't fail again.

She could think she is some kind of Net Runner trapped in the wrong body, she could think she is the reincarnation of Johnny Silverhand, or even some kind of Ai replacement. But he will be here for her, he will pretend to believe whatever she wants him to, but she will always be his sister.

He won't fail her again, NO ONE will Hurt her again...

He promises...

Yeah, this is my idea of what Jun thinks and why he takes Motoko at face value. He knows that she couldn't come back the same, that she is unlikely to regain her memories, but she is still his sister. He will protect her, and if that means humoring wild conspiracy theories she may have, or even thinking she is actually someone else...

Well he will play along, nod his head, and just be happy she is here.
