Kai POV: I don't know how long I was asleep, I just know that I felt… safe. That's the word I'm going to use. And when I opened my eyes the window in my room was dark. I immediately noticed that Lloyd was still in his chair, with his arms crossed and sleeping. It was kind of funny because he was snoring, which is something that he was adamant that he doesn't do. I also noticed that Nya had her arms tightly around me as she also slept. Like she was afraid to let me go. Not that I can blame her, given how bad it got earlier.

I sighed and rubbed my face without disturbing her. I don't know why I acted like that, but it was like I wasn't really in control anymore. Like I was on autopilot and I was slowly shutting down until I just passed out. Not to mention the underlying anxiety that I have right now. I'm usually not an anxious person, but this time… is different in a way that scares me. I don't want to keep feeling this way, but at the same time I know that all of this is going to happen again. I can just feel it and I hate it. And I hope that I'm wrong and this is just a one time thing.

I sighed again and had to fight the urge to sit up. Nya and Lloyd are definitely going to wake up if I do, and they both clearly needed to sleep. So I'm stuck like this until they do, which might be awhile. But I know that I would be doing the same thing if our places were traded, so I'm not going to complain right now. Even if I am hoping that they wake up sooner than I think. I'm starting to really need to use the bathroom.

After a few minutes my door opened up and someone walked over to me after closing it, it was Zane. He was a little surprised to see that I was okay, but that quickly faded. He kneeled next to me and whispered, "Did you sleep well? Were there any more disturbances or nightmares?"

"No, I didn't have any dreams actually." I whispered back, and he nodded.

"That is good, however they may return again. I don't want to distress you with that, but I also wish to prepare you for that as well." He explained, and groaned a little. I know that he isn't wrong, but why did he have to point it out?

"For now, can't we focus on the positive?" I asked, ignoring how I sound like I'm begging. And thankfully he nodded.

But unfortunately, us talking made the other two start to wake up. Nya slowly loosened her grip to rub her eyes. "What's going on?" She asked, grumbling really.

"Nothing of immediate concern. I was just checking in since I got a notification that Kai had woken up." Zane explained to her. But that made her shoot up and look at me.

"Kai? Are you okay? Do you need anything?" She asked quickly, and I sat up as best as I could.

"I'm fine, I just woke up is all, I promise." I tried to comfort her, but now Lloyd was jumping in. Since he was also now wide awake.

"Are you sure? You weren't looking so good before you fell asleep." He commented. His voice was dripping with worry and his face reflected that too. I hate that look on his face.

So I nodded and said, "I am, I just had a rough nightmare that's over now. And some uneventful sleep really helped."

"Proper rest is good for the healing process." Zane added in support. Thank you so very much.

Nya and Lloyd relaxed a little and Nya turned to Zane, "And what do you mean that you got a notification?"

"After you all fell asleep I came to check on you all and once I determined that everything was fine I set up a device to monitor Kai, just in case another incident were to occur." Zane explained causally, like it was nothing.

"So you're going to be spying on me? I don't need that." I argued, but he just shook his head.

"It is not spying, as you say. I am simply watching over your sleeping patterns to improve our response time in the case something similar happens when none of us present. It is for your security and safety." Okay, I guess that is a valid statement, but it's still a little creepy.

I was going to keep arguing, but Lloyd stopped me and said, "It's just while you're sleeping. You can live with that."

"So, I'm supposed to be okay with being watched?" That was a rhetorical question, but they all said, "Yes."

I huffed and laid back, but that made me flinch from the pain that followed. I hadn't noticed it at first, but my shoulder and arms were killing me. And that reminded me of what I saw. My burned arms… I'm not even sure how I feel about that fact. I know that I should know how they got like that, but I just don't. It's a frustrating cycle that I really hate.

But they all noticed the flinch and Zane asked me, "Kai, are you in pain?"

"I think that's obvious, but yeah. My major injuries aren't feeling nice right now." I answered, and that made Nya sigh.

"And you were going to mention that, when?" She asked, getting off my bed.

"I just started feeling it, okay. That's the truth." I defended myself, but she rolled her eyes.

Zane, without saying anything, went over to his supplies that he left and grabbed everything. When he came back he stated what he was doing. "It is an appropriate time to reclean your wound before possible infections."

I nodded and held them out. Nya went to help with my left as Zane started on the right. Lloyd sat back down and just watched. I really didn't want an audience, but I get how he feels. And I guess it was comforting, having him here.

But I felt my anxiety rise as they finished unwrapping. My arms were bloody or as red as last night, but they were still bad. The swelling, angry-looking chain-like marks were very clear and my burned hands hurt even more now that they were exposed. I wanted to look away, but I couldn't. Though it did help that Zane and Nya were working fast and gentle with the medicine.

However, as they were wrapping them again I felt the anxiety getting worse. To the point that I could faintly feel my heart beating in my chest. And somehow Zane noticed this as he looked at my face. But he didn't point it out.

He just calmly turned to Lloyd and asked, "Can you retrieve a cup of tea for Kai? I believe that it would do him some good."

"Sure, you want me to grab some herbal tea?" He stood up, and Zane nodded in response.

As he was leaving Zane then turned to Nya and told her. "And can you please check on Jay and Cole. They were planning on getting up early to make breakfast and they could use the reminder."

She laughed a little and nodded. She gently squeezed the good part of my arm and left too. The second she closed the door Zane stood up and grasped my good shoulder.

"Kai, your stress levels have risen to a concerning point. Are you alright?" He asked, and I finally let out the shaky breath I didn't even know I was holding in. Where did that come from? And why-

That's when my chest suddenly grew tight and it was hard to breathe. I started gasping and Zane jumped into action. He moved my legs and gently pushed my head down, all while saying comforting words. It was hard to hear him over the deafening sound of my heartbeat, but whatever he was doing was actually helping. Painfully slow, but helping. And eventually I calmed down and he let me lift my head up, but now I was even more tired than before. What the heck was going on?

"I don't wish to overwhelm you, but I also know that you will wish to know what just transpired." He spoke up after a few more moments of peaceful quiet.

"That's an understatement. It was so fast and I felt like I couldn't breathe. Is that another surprise injury?" I responded, but he just shook his head.

"No… I believe that you just had an anxiety attack." That made my heart drop.

"What? Why would that happen? I was feeling just fine?" I was so confused, and Zane not answering the question was making this so much worse.

What the heck is happening to me?
