I didn't have anything to post yesterday, so I had more time to work on this, as last week, I really had to work my ass off to get this done on time. I'm starting this first, and then I'll work on that chapter for the commissioned story. However, I'm starting to realize I had things easy last semester: I wasn't registered because I made an error earlier in the year. I had a lot more free time, and now, that is no longer the case as my schedule's gotten much more jammed now that I need to fit in studying, note-taking, online classes, etc.

With this chapter, I was tempted, really seriously tempted, to have that lake day stuff here as it would have been easy and a little fun to write it, as I could draw on…well, all of anime for inspiration on how to write that, while even having bits where Kaminari and Mineta know they're having fun and yet are stuck going through drills with Ms. Muscles and Granny. Like I said, I was tempted but ultimately decided to leave it to all of you to envision that so I could move on.

Chapter 52: Welcome to I-Island

Kendo's last couple of weeks had been a rollercoaster. Leading up to finals, Aizawa-sensei unleashed one of his "logical deceptions," warning that any student who failed would be barred from summer camp—a declaration that naturally sent her classmates into a panic. Kendo, however, felt little fear.

In the midterms, she had secured the second-highest score in class, trailing only behind the academic genius Yaomomo. Bakugo, who finished third, had become annoyed, though he had grown unusually silent since the Festival and their internships. She suspected his simmering anger was far from resolved—merely building pressure.

Kendo was not one to slack off. Being a competitive girl, she aimed to clinch the top spot in the finals. Despite the anxiety and despair among many of her peers, she found hope in seeing even modest improvements among those striving to improve. After all, any progress was progress—a lesson she had embraced long before meeting All Might. While some classmates accepted Yaomomo's offer of study help, she joined a smaller group that prepared with the sister class, determined to hone her skills.

Their study sessions often took them to a place that felt like Midoriya's second home—a sanctuary where he'd clearly forged his character. There, they pushed themselves, helped those in need, and even received guidance from some older residents. When finals arrived, Kendo was confident about her written exam, but the practical exam proved disastrous.

The practical exam was a true test of nerves and teamwork. Not only did they have to contend with teachers as opponents, but fate had paired Kendo with Bakugo against none other than All Might. While others may have stumbled, at least they had cooperative teammates. In contrast, Bakugo remained obstinate; he refused to communicate before the match and, once it began, charged at All Might, ignoring every instruction Kendo offered. Going so far as to try and fail to strike her when she put her foot down.

Reflecting on the match later, Kendo cringed at the memory. Their chaotic performance was one for the history books—a perfect example of what not to do. All Might, though their formidable opponent, seemed to relish the spectacle, his bemused smile oscillating between amusement and arrogance. Their miscommunication made it look like a two-man clown act for much of the match. Miraculously, Kendo managed to corral Bakugo into a semblance of cooperation just long enough to secure a narrow escape by mere seconds.

Her disappointment lingered when they returned, only to learn that not only had their performance been the worst among the groups but also that Aizawa-sensei's ominous threat about missing summer camp was nothing more than a total bull.

When the class planned a trip to the mall for camp supplies, things looked up. Bakugo and Todoroki skipped out—Bakugo for his usual inscrutability and Todoroki to visit his mother, which she found encouraging. She was glad Todoroki was improving his relationship with his estranged mom.

The day started at the mall as she and Uraraka wandered, collecting various items. That is until Uraraka blushed and ran off yelling about needing bug spray, giving Shigaraki frickin Tomura, of all people, a chance to slide up like he was asking for a date which, thank God, he wasn't. Though she didn't disparage people who did, she just didn't see the appeal in hero/villain romances when 9 out of 10 were a bloody murder waiting to happen. Frankly, Shigaraki reminded her too much of Bakugo for her comfort.

Before long, their pleasant outing devolved into an intense discussion about conviction, actions, and symbols as Shigaraki's presence threatened further chaos. The debate only subsided when he finally left, leaving behind an uneasy sense of relief—and the lingering fear as he made himself clear: Next time they met, he would try and kill her. That left her feeling drained as she spent most of the afternoon and evening being questioned by the police. It was the same as the rest before she was picked up by her parents and allowed to return home.

They nearly barred her from their lake day, but Itsuka convinced them, mainly because it was private land so no villains or other bad actors could deal with. It came true when Midoriya met the girls at the entrance and explained the interesting request he got from Mineta and Kaminari right after he heard the girls' request and how he had planned a bit of a surprise for them.

She could admit watching the two goofs panic and nearly soil themselves as Midoriya led them along by using their little lie against them before shunting them off for hours of training was funnier than she should have been. Her good mood didn't fall even when Kirishima and Bakugo eventually arrived, having managed to get lost on the way there…despite just the one road leading up to the place.

She relished the chance to relax after all the stress, getting some time under the sun, having fun in the water where they got to use their quirks how they used and receive some creative results in their games and races, and even interacting with class B more, learning more about her sister class. She even enjoyed conversing with Kenmikoto, the large fox-woman being just a treat to spend time with, though for a woman her senior, she was incredibly shy, which made the fact she was dating Midoriya, all the stranger, the two clearly cared for one another so she wouldn't judge.

The experience meant that just about everyone went home feeling refreshed and happy, so when Kendo and some other members of class A had their special summer classes the following week, which ended with them just being left flabbergasted at All Might feeling the scene of the crime, she and rest weren't as angry as they could have been. It certainly gave her whiplash when, halfway home, All Might literally rushed her with a surprise offer.

"Will you stop?"

All Might asked for that, which felt like the 10th time, but it was to no effect, as Kendo had been laughing for the better part of 15 minutes. The girl relaxed as she sat beside her mentor aboard a private jet that cruised over the vast, clear waters of the South Pacific Ocean. Neither was wearing uniforms or their hero costume. Still, more casual clothing, though as always, All Might's was made for his muscle form and thus hung off his frail, skinny frame.

Kendo finally calmed herself enough to speak; wiping a tear away, she responded. "How can I? You're the one that told me I had 10 minutes to pack my bags to take a 3-day overseas trip with you." All Might had surprised her on her way home not even 2 days ago, revealing that he had a ticket and extra for the coming I-expo; when he asked if she wanted to attend, she had jumped at the chance only for All Might to say she should get packing as his jet was gassed up and waiting.

"It was a joke; you have the entire evening to pack and explain things to your parents." All Might sighed, though he couldn't wipe away the smile on his face.

"We're lucky that I already got the invite, but with how much had happened since the festival, it totally slipped my mind," Kendo replied, as it would have been impossible to convince her parents otherwise to let her go, even though All Might's civilian form was a trusted member of U.A. and All Might's staff, her parents still looked at All Might with suspicions for how much she spends her time with him.

"Your father seemed like the type who would have reminded you, young Kendo." All Might noted, as her father had come in clutch with that, even if the man eyed him like he was seconds away from throwing the first punch or calling the cops.

He couldn't blame them, man; he would probably have the same response if his daughter was hanging out with a much older man, though the whispered comment to Kendo about him being a former trigger addict was uncalled for.

Their pilot, a trusted person under All Might's employ, announced they'd land soon. Hearing that, Kendo looked out the window and could see in the distance that near-white outer wall encircled the island, its many buildings and sights. "I still can't believe it, a floating island just cruising through the world's oceans like it's no big deal. Sounds like something out of science fiction if you ask me."

All Might enjoyed how giddy Kendo was about this. She was often a little too mature for her age, a fact that he was proud of, but she deserved moments like this when she could act like a kid. "You seem real excited about this. I'm glad."

Kendo frowned when she heard that, looking back at All Might in concern. "Listen, All Might. Was it wise to invite me? I was already going to come here; surely someone else could have taken the spot."

All Might rubbed in the chin in faux, though. "You're right about that, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Besides, as my successor, you and I share something thicker than blood. It's only right that I help introduce you to the big names in the hero and support world. Being number one doesn't mean working alone; you'll need solid ties with many important people."

Kendo thought about their shared quirk, the power she inherited from him: One for All. It was an awesome power; she couldn't deny that as with it, she was well and truly the top of her class, top of her grade even, and she hadn't even fully mastered it.

All Might, seeing that she understood that, stopped up. "This is going to be monumentality exhausting, but I'll need to hold my hero form for the entire time we're out in public." He finished, having sucked it up, and returned to his muscle form, removing his civilian clothing to reveal he had been wearing his hero costume underneath it. Seeing that, Kendo smiled and let out another laugh.

"Something funny, young Kendo?" A bemused All Might asked.

"Nothing, All Might, just that," Kendo pointed at him. "You really should have bought a larger private jet; you look like a dad playing in his kid's playhouse."

All Might blinked before he looked at his situation. True to her observation, he was so large in his muscle form that he couldn't even stand up straight in the middle of the aisle.

"Oh well, I rarely use it, so it slips my mind." All Might replied, though these days, he hadn't made the change as his time as a hero was already numbered; soon enough, he wouldn't be able to hold his muscle form for a couple minutes at a time. "But never mind that you should get changed as well; you'll want to put your best foot forward."

20 minutes later, Kendo had changed into her hero custom, and they had landed on I-island; as they went through customs, which was nearly entirely automated, All Might decided to test his student. "Let's have some fun by testing your trivia, young lady. Why was this artificial island created?"

"I learned about this; it was because…" Kendo thought about it, as she was sure they brought this up in middle school history. When she recalled it, she snapped her fingers.

"It was built because the world's brightest minds could gather here to research quirks and create the latest support items. The artificial island proposal was chosen so that no one country could have a land claim to it and because there was some serious international tension 70 years ago that nearly brought the world to the brink."

As they talked, neither moved. Instead, they stood on a conveyor belt on the floor, controlling their pace as the many systems scanned their luggage and persons to confirm that their data matched their IDs and that those IDs weren't on some list that would require further search to be detained and deported.

All Might flashed her a thumbs up. "Correct, though word to the wise from someone who has been around a lot since quirks came along, the whole 'brought to the brink' lost meaning after the 4th crisis in 15 years, and not all of them were caused by villains, just the unrest that quirks caused society."

All Might could look back on it now and laugh. Still, at the time, it was terrifying when something so minor could be blown out of proportion in ways that made the Cuban Missile Crisis seem like a yearly thing, or as his mother described it, a dick-measuring contest.

"I'm just glad we haven't had one in years." Kendo was happy she didn't live in a world like that anymore.

"That's not just because of my, young Kendo, but the result of hard work done by thousands, no-tens of thousands of good people across the world, heroes or not." All Might reminded her as they reached the end of customs and were allowed into the airport proper. As they walked, a lady's voice over the speakers informed them that the island was holding the pre-opening of the I-expo, which was closed to the general public, which was why only people like them, with invitations, were allowed to attend early.

Most of it flew over Kendo's head as she exited the airport and saw I-island in all its splendor. And it was everything she imagined and more. The center area was well decorated, but it wasn't that that drew her eye. It was the dozens of attractions, big and small, from rides to what seemed to be massive bubbles carrying entire families to a water feature that could spell out words and even form pictures mid-air. Most of them use the latest tech and knowledge to work or are controlled by quirks. All of them produced an atmosphere of joy and laughter that was infectious.

"I didn't expect to see so many people," All Might noted, as the plan seemed too packed already, and the expo hadn't even opened to the public yet.

"The pictures really undersell this place; it's like a fantasy wonderland," Kendo muttered in awe.

"Unlike back home, people are free to use their quirks here however they like." All Might explained as they saw performers hosting shows using their quirks in ways that seemed close to magic. The pavilions are jam-packed with demonstrations and performances; we should enjoy a few while here."

"Already on it, All Might." Kendo patted her camera, or more accurately, her dad's, as he wanted her to take as many pictures as she could, preferably with her in them, for the family album. Ascending from the airport, All Might looked about but saw nothing like a hotel.

"Now let's see. The hotel should be nearby…" he wondered aloud, which drew the attention of one of the island's staff members placed there to help with such matters.

"Welcome to I-island. Would you like some, my God? Is that you, All Might!?" Her grasp drew attention from others, who up until now had just not noticed All Might. With their eyes on him, more people saw them and started to crowd him, Kendo wisely stepping back.

"I'll leave you to your fans." With that, she took their staff and took off before people started crowding her to ask questions.

Having somehow managed to escape the thralls of people who wanted to talk to, interview, thank, or, in the case of many women, kiss him and through in a multitude of ways to pass him their number, All Might and his successor found themselves in an empty park where All Might could wipe away the many…many marks left by those affection women.

"With that much attention, I can see why Todoroki thought I was your secret love child." Kendo dryly commented as if All Might was even a fraction the perv Mineta was, or just indulged in the woman that threw themselves at him, he could have a few illegitimate kids running around.

"He wasn't the only one." All Might muttered, recalling his conversation with a certain jade collector.

"What was that?" Kendo asked.

"Nothing, but we shouldn't toddle; we'll be late. I wanted to meet an old friend; that was a big reason I accepted the invitation." All Might changed the topic. "I was hoping that you'll come along."

Kendo didn't need to think about it before she agreed to it. "I don't mind. I've only met Gran Torino. It would be nice to meet someone that doesn't scare you half to death." She joked as All Might grumbled that he wasn't scared; he was logically cautious. Really, she didn't see it. Sure, GT was a strict trainer, having stepped in in the months she trained with All Might before U.A., but she wouldn't call him a terror. In fact, they got along just great.

All Might ignored the comment and leaned low to whisper to her. "By the way, I haven't told them about One for All, so it would be appreciated if you keep that on the down-low."

"Why not? Don't you trust them?" Kendo asked him.

"With my life, but danger seems to have a bad habit of following those who know the truth." All Might retorted.

"Sure…" Kendo agreed though All Might could tell she wasn't happy with it. He wasn't either, and truth be told, he had been planning to tell Dave about it before the school year started, but with All for One's death no longer a certainty with the League still active, it wouldn't sit right with him to do so now.

Their conversation was interrupted when they heard a pogo stick in the distance. Looking up the stairs, they saw someone approaching, a young blonde riding the most advanced-looking pogo stick Kendo had ever seen. "There you are, uncle, finally!" she yelled as she approached, jumping off the stick and into All Might's arms as the man turned with a hearty laugh. "Welcome, Uncle Might!"

Kendo was left out of the loop as All Might and this girl seemed to get along like white on rice, leaving her wondering about the nature of their relationship, the girl mentioning her age and how it had been years since they had seen one another.

'Wait…is this his old friend? She just said she's only 17. Did they meet when she was a kid?' Kendo thought, as maybe she was a secret love child, as she was blue-eyed and blonde like her mentor, but she didn't entertain the idea long as one. She knew All Might wasn't the type, and if this resulted from a love that turned sour, she was pretty sure All Might would have told her about it by now…right?

All Might recalled that she was there and coughed into his fist before he introduced the two. "Young Kendo, allow me to introduce you to my friend, Dave's daughter, Melissa?"

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Melissa Shield?" The newly introduced Melissa happily offered her hand to shake.

"You know, that makes more sense; I thought that you were All Might's old friend," Kendo laughed it off and grasped the confused Melissa's hand in a firm handshake. "Kendo Itsuka, a first-year student at U.A. High. It's a pleasure."

"Oh, come now. You act like I don't have friends my own age," All Might said as Kendo looked at him funny.

"Wouldn't they all be in retirement homes them?" All Might tripped over his response to just how blasé Kendo sounded with that comment.

"So cruel, and in front of Melissa." All Might frowned, though the two girls could tell he wasn't as hurt as he pretended to be.

"Well, you are getting up there in the years, Uncle Might. Are you sure you don't need some dye to keep those locks blonde?" Melissa asked, pointing to her own young, blonde locks. The two girls giggled at the expense of the number one.

"You said you're from U.A., right? Are you in the hero course?" Melissa decided to give her uncle a break, turning back to Kendo, who nodded at the question, leading to her clapping. "So that's how you know Uncle Might. I heard he took a teaching job there, but he doesn't discuss it much in his emails."

"Yeah, he's often busy-" Kendo started.

And as one, Melissa and she finished the statement. "Doing hero work." Melissa gave All Might a knowing look before she turned back to Kendo. "Believe me, I know. He would forget to eat and sleep if he didn't have people to remind him. Like my dad, I figured that was why they became such good friends."

"So, what kind of quirk do you have?" She asked.

"It's nothing much; it's a power/augmentation type called Big Fist," Kendo demonstrated, allowing her right hand to grow to its maximum size. At the same time, she tapped into 5% of One for All. Orange electricity jumped off her now and then. Still, it wasn't any stronger than static electricity. Melissa barely felt it when it arched onto her as she explored around Kendo.

"It's pretty self-explanatory, though I recently unlocked a new form of it where I can access a stockpiled mass of power; my best guess is that it's the same power behind my fists growing in size," Kendo explained. However, it seemed like Mellisa didn't hear her, the girl muttering under her breath about her costume, lack of support items, and possible improvements she could make to it all.

"You're really invested in my costume," Melissa stopped when she finally heard Kendo looking up; she only grew more flustered when Kendo wasn't even offended, more curious than anything. "Any tips?"

"Oh, sorry about that! That was incredibly rude!" Melissa backed off before she rushed off to grab her pogo stick, which glowed with a press of a button before it shrunk into a mere wristband that she put on. "If we hurry, we can surprise papa in his office. Come on, let's go!"

After the surprise that was All Might just appearing, Melissa and Kendo left the adults to catch up, with Mellisa leading her down the large halls of the building. Kendo wondered what was up with fancy establishments and massive halls, as the place was even larger than U.A.'s.

"So, what do you want me to call you? Do I use your real name for do you already have a hero name?" Melissa asked as Kendo had arrived in her hero costume, so she would assume.

"Well, we're friends, so let's stick to Kendo for now; it still feels weird when people refer to it as Battle Fist," Kendo replied, as she had accepted that she would stand at the top one day and that came with some baggage but for now, she would take the normalcy that was her family name.

"Well, you'll need to get used to it sooner or later, but if we're keeping it casual, you can stick to Melissa for me." Melissa smiled as she continued giving Kendo a tour of the island, where the two saw all the sights I-island had to offer.

Kendo struggled to take it all in as they walked through the place. "I still can't believe the entire island is man-made; it's insane."

"And there's normal city stuff, about everything you could need. But it does come with the downside that the scientists and their families can't leave." Melissa pointed out a few stores that Kendo recognized and others that she didn't. They were probably local places for other countries.

"Not even on vacations?" Kendo asked, as the place was nice, but if you stayed there long enough, surely you'd get tired of it and long for something new. Despite being an island, they didn't have a beach; how could they?

"Well, the scientists live and work here because their research is super important and, for some, top secret. It'll be a risk if they or their families are attacked or kidnapped abroad. You can ask for permission, but they rarely grant it." Melissa stated as they heard a monstrous roar. Looking down the road, they saw what could only be called a monster straight out of an old-school monster movie approaching.

Yet no one was screaming or fleeing for their lives. Why would they when it was just a Godzilla, a well-known hero who, as he walked by, smiled and gave a peace sign to the cameras?

"Nice, I bet a sponsor flew him out here for the big event." Melissa smiled as she saw that.

"I hope he can shrink to normal size like Mt. Lady." Kendo joked, leaving Melissa confused.

"Who?"

"She's a heroine back in Japan, pretty new to the scene, but her quirk lets her grow into a giant," Kendo explained, to which the blonde nodded before she continued the tour. She pointed out several other heroes as they went, some conversing with other heroes, others with fans or taking pictures. A few wore gear they typically didn't as they signed autographs for people.

"Well, your bond to find plenty of heroes here. They invite people worldwide to try out new items and costumes, drawing in more people. Pros also use it as an unofficial meet spot to talk shop," Mellisa explained as she pointed it out.

"Would they be attending that big party tonight?" Kendo asked.

"That's right, you'll be attending with Uncle Might?" Melissa nodded.

"Well, it would be weird if I didn't when I brought along a dress for it." Kendo was happy she could get it, though her mother and she had to make an emergency shopping trip hours before her trip as she didn't own anything close to this level.

"Look, over here!" Kendo saw Mellisa run ahead and point toward a large convention hall. "You definitely need to check his place out!" Leading her inside, Kendo saw it as blue inside as outside. However, they could still see things well enough, so they probably installed blue light bulbs to keep the underwater theme. However, her attention was on the support items that Melissa showed her, which included a plane/submarine combo, a deep sea dive suit, and a helmet with so many sensors you'll need to be invisible to sneak up on the user.

"What the support course back home wouldn't give to be here…" Kendo uttered in awe, seeing that and so much more out of place, so much that could be used in just about every environment from artic rescue to dogged villain battles in the middle of the arid desert. "All of this stuff is insane…how did they even make half of them?"

"Yeah, I sometimes get that feeling, too. It feels like you stepped into the distant future, but it's real." Melissa couldn't admit that she felt that much. "I would know since everything here was made thanks to inventions Papa patented."

Kendo heard the shift in Mellisa's tone and smiled. "You must be proud."

"Of course I am; these hero items will help heroes across the world save lives; how could I not be proud knowing my father helped to save those lives, even if indirectly?" Melissa asked, stars in her eyes as it was that, not the recognition or copious amounts of royalty money that Melissa loved the most about her father's work. When she would watch the news about some far-off hero who saved even one person, she saw them using a piece of gear that she knew her papa had a part in making.

"Indirectly or not, it's still helping people and saving lives. I would say he and All Might are a big reason things are so peaceful." Kendo leaned close to her.

"Pretty sure Uncle Might could be doing just a little more." Melissa chuckled.

"He couldn't do it naked; Professor Shield develops costumes that can keep up with him," Kendo reminded her, to which Mellisa gaged.

"Oh my God, don't put that thought in my head." She laughed as she pushed the younger girl, though Kendo, who was stronger, hardly moved and just went along.

"Have no fear, citizens, for I, Nude Might, is here!" Kendo pretended to speak in All Might's voice but wasn't doing a good job with how much she failed to keep her laughter in check. "Pretty sure most villains would surrender the fight a naked guy."

The two continued to share some jokes, not just about All Might but about basic things in their lives and other comedic moments about their parents. David was a good man but tended to be scatterbrained, while Papa Kendo was the opposite. The man was a human scheduling machine, always on time and always planned.

"By the way, you know I'm a U.A. student, but I don't know where you study. Is there a school on the island?" Kendo asked as the two looked over what looked to be the superpowered younger brother of the robots that U.A. used.

"Yup, I'm in my 3rd year of their support course. But truth be told, it feels like I was locked into that path since I was a kid; kinda hard to look into being maybe a doctor when your earliest memories are in your dad's work-shop watching him tinker." Melissa replied.

"I heard that the academy here is incredibly difficult to get into. So, I would say you have the brains for it." Kendo complimented her.

"I still have a lot to learn and a long path ahead of me." Melissa didn't feel like she was close to where her father was in his college years, and she would soon be in college.

Kendo smiled. Maybe it was a little humble of Melissa to think that, but Kendo didn't feel the same about herself. "Same here, I need to keep improving. Not even with my quirk, there's still a ton of stuff I don't know about when it comes to hero work."

"Kendo, is that you?" Both turned when they heard someone calling out to them. Turning, they saw that it was Uraraka, of all people, who, like Kendo, was dressed in her hero costume. "It is, hi!"

"Uraraka? What are you doing here?" Kendo asked as Uraraka rushed over and gave her a big hug, one that Kendo returned.

"We should be asking you that," Yaoyorozu appeared next. At her side was Jiro. Both girls were also dressed in hero gear. "You neglected to inform us that you'll be traveling over summer break, Kendo." Yaoyorozu started, as it was a pleasant surprise to see Kendo attending I-expo—and a day early, no less, something only those with invites could do.

"That seems awfully suspicious if you ask me," Jiro stated.

"Neither did you all; in fact, Yaomomo, you said your family was planning on going to Venice." Kendo reminded them, trying to turn attention away from her presence. "Anyway, girls, this is Melissa; she's been showing me around the expo. Melissa, these are some of my classmates and friends."

"Did you not tell them you'll be coming with Uncle Might?" Melissa asked, ruining her efforts without even trying.

"Uncle Might?" Jiro asked, as she only knew one person who could fit the description, but surely not…right?

"She means All Might." Kendo sighed. She could salvage this; she just needed to mix some truth with the lies.

"Why'd you come with All Might, Kendo?" Uraraka asked.

"Well, the winner of the sports festival gets a ticket, and he offered me a ride on his private jet since Mellisa had also invited him," Kendo replied, which…wasn't a lie, just a truth mixed in with a half-truth. That counted as accurate, right?

Melissa didn't know what she was doing and smiled as she added some context. "My dad and uncle Might are old friends, and I wanted to surprise the two by inviting him." She then had a wonderful thought.

"How about we all grab something to drink at the café to talk? It's my treat," she offered.

I wanted to add more to this, but I saw that the word limit was approaching and decided to cut things here, especially since the last chapter was so long.

The next chapter will be out March 28th
