I wrote this story many years ago. And just like all my other stories, I will now post this one at a time.
Her Safe Haven
Prologue
It had been a while since Lilly Rush and the team had been called to a crime scene. However, today had been that time again.
For a moment, she had forgotten what it was like to face the victims' families when the pain was still fresh. You could see the pain and despair on the faces of the victims' families. To see their pain explode into rage at the police officers on the scene of the crime. Just like today.
The victim was a young woman, practically still a teenager. Lilly was about to kneel down next to the body when she heard the screams of the relatives, the mother, from somewhere behind her. The scream sounded like a wounded animal. This scream went through Lilly's core.
Lilly turned and looked at the woman who was crying in her husband's arms. The victim's parents. And then, as if she felt Lilly's gaze on her, the woman turned her head and looked directly at Lilly.
Oh, my, that look, Lilly wouldn't soon forget it - so full of anger, pain and hatred - towards everyone and everything. But especially towards the person who had taken her daughter from her.
Unconsciously, Lilly took a step back, overwhelmed by all the emotions in the mother's gaze. It was then that she felt it. A hand that briefly rested on her arm. At that moment, Lilly realized that she was not alone.
Lilly turned her head and looked briefly at the person to whom that hand belonged.
Nick Vera.
