The Onryo and the Killing Flash

Komorebi Izuku takes a minute to control himself. The important thing was to not seem too interested, to stay above it all. Nothing is preemer than not caring. Satisfied his face looks sufficiently disinterested, he walks casually up to some of his men clustered around a monitor. On it is a camera recording of the Kusanagi girl assassinating that Tsukimura guy. Komorebi has already seen it, of course. He's watched Kusanagi jump up from the floor below, stab the guy in the heart, throw him out a window, and execute a Chiburi. Holy fuck, a Chiburi. Absolute legend. Then she delivers a badass line and jumps out a window to make her escape.

Komorebi lets the boys show him the recording, pretending to be mildly interested. "I see the Onryo has claimed another victim," he casually drops, just like he practiced in the mirror a few minutes ago.

"You know her, boss?" asks Ren.

Arata, standing next to Ren, gives Ren a little shove. "Of course he does! The Killing Flash and the Onryo have an unfinished duel! They say he's the only one to ever survive crossing swords with her, and she's the only one to ever survive crossing swords with him."

Good. Arata had been at that fucking debacle at the dojo. Komorebi had known he could count on the guy to fill in the details. It's not preem to tell your own stories. Arata stumbles over his words a bit, but the important thing is he makes it sound even more impressive than it actually was... and honestly, it was already one of the preemest fights Komorebi has ever managed to have. Most gang fights are ho-hum, activate the Sandy, rush in, and cut them down before they see you coming. Telling everyone else to stand back, having a formal duel against an evenly matched opponent while all the little chum look on in awe... that never happens. Hell, it would have been a fine way to die, not that he wants to die, but if he had to that's the way to go out, looking fucking preem.

"...and then the Killing Flash is all 'perhaps we'll finish the match another time'. And the Onryo is like 'I look forward to it' and we all walk away," finishes Arata.

If Komorebi remembers it right, Kusanagi actually said something like 'kill you later' but that's fine, Arata's version is better. It's what people should remember.

"What do you think, boss? Are you going to finish the match? Will Moritaka-sama send you after her?" asks Ren.

Komorebi tilts his head to the side and does his best to look slightly disappointed. "I'd be happy to conclude our duel at any time. But if the Onryo is working for Wakaba-sama and Nakagawa-sama, well, the bosses probably don't want to lose one of us. It might be a while before the higher ups let us finish the match."

Shrugging as if to ask 'what can a warrior do' Komorebi turns and walks away.

Behind him he can hear the chatter. "Dude... he's so fucking preem," says Arata.

"I know man. He's real fucking samurai. He and the Onryo are going to be, like, eternal rivals now. He's the only one who can stand up to her. I mean, look at that video... the Killing Flash and the Onryo, fucking legends man."

Yeah, just keep it up Kusanagi. Keep shining, because now our reps are linked. The deadlier you look, the more people will remember I'm 'the only one who ever survived crossing swords with you'. By the time we finish our fight someday, it won't matter who wins.

Because the story will make both of us immortal.
