The trio decided to take the bus to get across town so they could get home back faster.
Bexley still felt a tad bit dizzy from passing out but was otherwise okay. However, Ponyboy wasn't doing so hot.
At first, Bexley thought it was because of her passing out earlier. Maybe it was from everything that had happened in the church.
It'd make sense considering they hadn't eaten much and hadn't gotten much sunlight for the last four to five days.
They waited for the bus by a large cathedral. Ponyboy sat down on the bench while Bexley and Two-Bit stayed standing.
Two-Bit noticed Ponyboy rubbing his face and he turned around. "You okay, Pony?" he asked, putting a hand to Pony's forehead, "You feel kinda hot,.
Bexley turned around to face her little brother. "Pony? You're really pale. You're not gonna pass out on me like I did, are you?" she asked.
"I'm okay. I'll take a lot of aspirins when we get home. Don't tell Darry about this," Ponyboy said, rubbing his face again.
Two-Bit hooked his thumbs in his jeans and sighed, "Alright. But you know Darry'll kill me if he finds out you are sick and you fight anyway. He'll kill me if he finds out you passed out on my watch, Bex,"
"Then keeo your trap shut and he won't find nothin' out. Be a pal, will ya?" Bexley said to him, giving Two-Bit a slight push.
Then, the bus pulls up in front of the three greasers. Two-Bit fishes for some change that he had in his pocket and gives it to the two siblings.
"You two know somethin'? The only thing keeping Darry from being a soc is us? Thought you two got away with murder and living with your oldest brother," Two-Bit said.
They board the bus and find a place to sit. Two-Bit was right. Darry was way too smart to be a greasesr.
Ponyboy rested his head on the bus window. "Tonight. I don't like it one bit. Something off is gonna happen," he said.
Two-Bit rested an arm on the seat in front of him and Bexley leaned back with her arms crossed.
The bus stops a couple of neighborhoods away from the house.
"Don't worry, Pone. We're gonna stomp all those socs heads in tonight," Bexley said after she stepped off the bus.
"Now you're talkin' like a real greaser, shorty," Two-Bit said, getting off the bus after her and Ponyboy followed after him.
"Quit it," she said, referring to him calling her shorty.
"Okay, Shorty," he said teasingly. Two-Bit will never change.
(6:30/Dusk)
The trio were quite a ways from the hospital by the time dusk came.
The air had cooled down, blowing gently.
They make it to a hill top, where they saw a few kids playing with a dog; they played much like their gang.
Bexley grinned warmly at them. "Look over there," she said to her little brother and buddy.
"Yeah, tough little kids, huh?" Ponyboy said. "Yeah, future greasers," Two-Bit said with a light-hearted chuckle.
They saw Cherry Valance sitting in her small red and white corvette. When she sees the trio, she gets out of it.
"Hey, Ponyboy. Hey, Bexley. Hey, Two-Bit," she greeted them, walking over to them.
Ponyboy and Bexley remembered how Dally was talking about here coming by the lot while they were in Windrixville with Johnny.
"So what's up with the big times?" Two-Bit asked her.
"No weapons. They play your way. It's a fair deal," Cherry answered with a nod.
"You sure?" Two-Bit asked.
"Yeah, Randy knows for sure," Cherry replied.
Two-Bit nodded and said, "Good deal. Thanks, Cherry," He then walked away from the group.
Ponyboy and Bexley started to follow him.
"Hey, wait a minute. I want to talk to you guys," Cherry said. The siblings stopped and turned back around to face her.
"How's Johnny doin'?" she asked them.
'N-Not so good. Would you go up and see him?" Bexley answered, feeling a lump in her throat.
"No, I couldn't," Cherry replied. "Why not?" Ponyboy said bitterly.
"He killed Bob. Maybe Bob asked for it. But you guys didn't know his other side. He wasn't just any boy. He could be real sweet. Bob had something that made him different, made people follow him. A little part from the crowd, you know what I mean?" Cherry explained.
Bexley felt anger rise in her chest. Cherry wouldn't stop by to see him because he had killed Bob.
"Yeah, well, Johnny's different too. Besides, we don't need you to go see him anyway. Don't you think that you can feel sorry for us," Bexley said coldly, turning around to walk away.
Cherry didn't understand that Bexley had the same feelings for Johnny as she did with Bob.
"Yeah, don't even try to give us handouts. We don't need your damn charity," Ponyboy added, turning away.
"Ponyboy! Bexley! I wasn't trying to give you charity!" Cherry called just as they started to walk away.
Ponyboy turned back around to face her, but Bexley hesitated.
"I only wanted to help. I liked you guys from the start. The way ywe talked... Wouldn't you try to help me if you thought you could?" Cherry explained, shoulders slumped over.
Bexley turned back around slightly when she said that.
"Caan you see the sunset from the south side real good?" Ponyboy asked her.
"Yeah, real good," Cherry said with a few blinks. "You can see it from the North side too," Bexley said with a grin.
"Thanks, you guys. You two dig okay," Cherry said with a grin.
"You too. See you around," Ponyboy replied, turning away from the soc.
Bexley turned and followed him. They were glad that they had Cherry Valance as their friend.
They go back to the house to get ready for the rumble later.
