(Third Person POV)

It was hot in the house this Tuesday evening. There wasn't any noise other than the annoying sound of the incessant ringing that is heard if it's completely silent. . The twins were the only ones home that evening since they both didn't feel like going out with the gang.

Bexley had gone to bed a little bit ago on the account that she wasn't feeling good. Ponyboy was in the living room, sprawled out on the couch, his focus on a book. His fingers brushed through his unkempt greasy, auburn hair.

Darry was working late that night along with Sodapop. As for everyone else, they were doing who-knows-what. Johny had offered to stay with the twins, so they wouldn't be alone. But they insisted on having him go too.

It was nice to not have to hear the whole house rattle from the blaring noise from the tv and/or radio while they were gone. Sleeping or doing anything quiet wouldn't be possible with Mickey Mouse blaring constantly. So it was nice to have it while it lasted.

Bexley woke up about an hour later, her throat was dry. She was desperate for some water. Carefully, she pushed the duvet off of her body, letting the cold air touch her bare arms and legs. She waited a moment to get out of bed before going to get some water.

She pushed herself up off of the bed and walked out of the bedroom, rubbing her eyes with a balled-up fist, yawning quietly. When she made her way downstairs, she saw Ponyboy sleeping on the couch, the book he was reading was laying face first on his chest.

She cracked a smile at the sight and made the decision not to wake him up. She made her way into the kitchen and got a cup out of the cupboard. As she was filling it with sink water, she thought she heard a sound coming from the back door.

Bex turned the water off to better hear the sound. Nothing for a moment, just silence. 'Must be my mind messing with me.' she thought, shaking her head. Thinking nothing of it, she takes the glass of water to the table to drink it.

Just as she was starting to drink, that same rattling sound broke the silence again. Only this time, it was much louder. It was as if someone was trying to break in. "What the hell?" she whispered, setting the cup down on the table.

She gets up from the table and walks over to the door. However, she didn't have to open the door to see what was causing that noise, she could see just who was causing it. A tall, dark figure, no more than six feet, stood on the other side of the door. She froze in fear as she made eye contact with the culprit.

The hairs on the back of her neck stood up on end and chills ran down her spine. Said figure saw the small girl looking at him and started to shake the door in an attempt to open it as well as banging on it aggressively. 'Oh shit… I gotta wake Pony up.' she thought, her heart starting to race.

Bexley backed away from the back door and raced towards the living room, where her twin brother was sleeping. 'How did he not hear that?!' she cursed in her mind. She knelt beside him and started to shake him awake in a frantic manner.

"Pony, wake up! Wake up!" she pleaded, shaking him by his shoulders. Ponyboy groaned tiredly from being roughly shaken. "Huh? Bexley? What's wrong?" he asked, picking up the panicked tone in her voice. "Someone's at the back door! They're trying to break in!" Bexley cried, her heart jumping into her throat.

When she said that, he snapped fully awake. He quickly sits up, letting the book he was reading fall to the floor. He was about to get up to grab the phone, however, something caught his attention. The man that attempted to break down their back door was now standing at the front window, staring at the twins with a menacing look in his eye.

Bexley saw the fear in Pony's eyes, both widened all the way. "Bexley…" he said quietly, yet his voice was shaky, "He's at the front window…" Bexley forgot how to breathe for a moment, she didn't want to turn around to face the tall man. However, she slowly looked over her shoulder to see the man standing there.

"Oh god… what do we do?" she wondered, unable to think because of the fear she was feeling. "C-Call Darry…" Ponyboy said, keeping both eyes on the creeper. Bexley, although petrified, did what she was asked to do.

Her hands were shaking as she grabbed the phone. Luckily, Darry's work number was beside the phone, in case something bad should happen. Ponyboy kept his eyes on the man, who hadn't moved an inch from the window. Darry had always told them that if someone ever tried to break in, keep each other safe if the intruder intended to hurt either one of them.

Bexley brought the phone up to her right ear, trying not to let a panic attack started. Darry's boss picks up the phone in less than ten seconds, "Hello?" "I-I need to speak to Darry. Please. It's an emergency." Bexley whimpered, her voice shaky. By the sound of the girl's voice, she was truly afraid. He didn't ask any questions and went to get him.

"Bexley? Are you okay? What's wrong?" Darry asked, sounding concerned. "Darry, you've gotta come home. Someone's trying to break in the house." Bexley answered, sounding like she was on the verge of tears. Darry was quiet for a moment.

"Where's Ponyboy? Is he in the room with you?" Darry asked, now more urgent. "Y-Yeah, he's in here with me in the living room. Th-The man is standing at the window… staring at us. He tried busting the backdoor down." Bexley replied, her voice shaky from fear.

"Put Pony on the phone, Bex," Darry ordered, his voice serious. And she did so. She then stayed close to Ponyboy, who held the phone up to his ear. "Darry?" Ponyboy said quietly into the phone.

"Pony, I need you to listen to me. What is the man doing? Has he moved at all?" Darry asked. Ponyboy focused his eyes on the window, seeing that the man had reached behind his back pocket. Their eyes bulged wide when they saw what the man had pulled out. A ten-inch hunting knife. ,

He tapped on the glass with the blade gently, then he traced an invisible O shape. Bexley was petrified from this. This man had ill intentions of harming the twins. Her heart was starting to pound, she felt like she was going to be sick.

"D-Darry… he's got a knife." Ponyboy gasped, his heart beating against his chest. Darry went silent, a lump forming in his throat. Now he was scared, scared of what his youngest brother and youngest sister were seeing.

"Ponyboy, listen to me. Call the cops, take Bexley and go hide in the bathroom or your room. I will come home straight away." Darry instructed. Ponyboy paled and he felt his heart sink. Ponyboy hung the phone up, clenching it in his shaking hand.

Pony knew he had to listen to his brother. He had to keep his sister safe from this psychopath. The man was still standing at the front window, still tracing on the glass. "Wh-What do we do?" Bexley whimpered, feeling herself starting to have a panic attack. But, she couldn't let said panic attack control her.

"We need to call the cops. And Darry said we need to hide." Ponyboy said, putting his sister behind him to protect her. He dials 911 this time and waited for the operator to pick him up. After a couple of rings, the operator answered.

"911. What's your emergency?" a male voice said. "A man's trying to break into the house. He's got a knife." Ponyboy said into the phone. "Has he moved any?" the operator asked. "He tried coming through the back door but he came to the front window," Ponyboy answered.

"Is there anyone in the house besides you?" the operator asked. "It's just me and my sister. Pl-Please send someone out here." Ponyboy answered., "Can I have your names, ages, and address? I will send some officers over." the operator said.,to

"Ponyboy and my sister's name is Bexley. We're both fourteen." Ponyboy elaborated, then giving the operator their address. "Alright, I'm sending some officers to your residence. Both of you need to find a place in your house to hide. Do you have any rooms that have locks?" the operator asks.

"Our bedroom," Ponyboy replied. "Alright, go and hide in there. Don't come out until the officer gets there." the operator orders. The line then goes dead and Ponyboy hangs up.

Ponyboy eyed the man again; there was a wide crooked, toothy grin on his face, showing the insanity on his face. "Bexley… we need to go to our room. that's the only room that has a lock on it." Ponyboy said seriously, keeping Bexley behind him.

Both teens hightail to their bedroom, not even thinking to grab the phone to call 911 again if necessary. "Pony, wait! The front door isn't locked." Bexley gasped, her stomach dropping at the realization. Pony's blood turned to ice when she said that.

He looked back for a brief moment at the door, it was still unlocked. "Bex, hide under the bed. I'll go lock it," he said, looking back at his sister. Bexley felt her heart beating faster than before. "Pony-" she started.

"Bexley, listen to me. I gotta lock it, otherwise, he's gonna get in. Go!" he said, pushing her towards the stairs to their bedroom. Bexley knew when Ponyboy was serious about a situation like this, and she knew to listen to him.

She bolts into their bedroom, immediately hiding under the bed. Her breathing was too loud and heavy in the silence. Her eyes were big, widened in fear. It wasn't long until Ponyboy bolted into, the bedroom, shutting the door and locking it.

"Pony?" Bexley whimpered, seeing his bare feet from under the bed. Pony heard her frightened voice and looked under the bed. There she was, hiding like a frightened puppy. He crawled under the bed with her and threw his arm around her to keep her calm. Both were shaking from the sheer terror. One of them could break down at any moment.

He took her hand and kept her close to him. The floorboards were starting to creak, indicating that the psychotic man had entered the house. The twins feared that Darry nor the fuzz wouldn't make it on time. They heard him going into each room; the man was looking for them.

However, the footsteps stopped at their bedroom door. The man started messing with the doorknob. Their hearts stopped when the man started using his fists to beat on the door. The entire house rattled when he did that. He then used his shoulder to break it down, the door gave way, hitting the wall behind it.

The twins kept their eyes on the man's mud-caked boots move around the room as he walked. Pony covered Bexley's mouth so the man wouldn't hear her breathing. Tears flooded Bexley's eyes, her heart was pounding. She had never felt more afraid than right now.

Ponyboy was also very afraid, his whole body was covered in sweat. His heart rate became faster and it was as though he couldn't breathe. Then, the man's boots were only a few inches from their faces.

There were so many places that they could hide. The only places they could hide were the closet, under the desk, or under the bed. The man opened up the closet and looked through it, pushing passed the clothes that hung inside it. The man then walked to the other side of the bed, where their feet were.

Bexley glanced at Ponyboy with the salty tears still in her eyes, threatening to fall over at any time. They wondered if they could make a run for it, hoping that they'd escape. But before they could do so, the man had seen Bexley's right foot sticking out slightly.

Bexley felt the man's calloused hands tightly grabbed her ankles and drag her out from under the bed. Bexley screamed so loudly that it'd wake up the whole neighborhood. She tried grabbing Ponyboy's hands but it was fruitless.

"NO! Don't touch her!" Ponyboy shouted in fear and anger. Pony scrambled out from under the bed and saw Bexley being pinned down to the ground by the man, who was trying to stab her with the hunting knife. Bexley was fighting to get loose of the dangerous man, but he was way bigger than her.

"Get off me! Get off!" Bexley shouted, kicking and punched at him. The man tightly grabbed her by the wrist and he struck her so hard that her cheek got cut, due to the fact the man had a couple of rings that he stole. Her head snapped to the right and she cried out from the pain.

Ponyboy was quick to act; he had grabbed a blade that was sitting on the desk and stabbed the huge man in between the shoulders, pushing the blade in. The man screamed in agony and let Bexley go, dropping the hunting knife right next to Bexley's head.

Bexley was on the verge of a panic attack from the man dragging her out from under the bed, trying to strangle her with his arm before throwing her to the floor, and being attacked by the man. Ponyboy quickly grabbed her hand and the twins ran out of the window before the man could get ahold of either one of them.

By the time, the sweet, relieving sounds of the police cars coming up to the house. For the first time in their lives, they were grateful for the fuzz. Bexley clung to her brother like he was her lifeline, endless tears flowing down her face as she sobbed hysterically.

The fuzz cars stopped abruptly in front of the house, their blue lights coloring the exterior; the single color relieving the twins that the horror was finally over. They stormed through the gate and rushed over to the police, throwing themselves in the safety of their arms.

Both were in tears, not caring that they were supposed to be tuff. "Are you two alright?" one police officer asked. "He's in the house! He's still in there!" Bexley cried, close to hyperventilating. "Alright, calm down now. We will get him to custody." the officer assured. He then did a hand signal to let the other officers know to go into the house.

Two other officers stormed into the house with their guns drawn. They were looking for the man who attacked the twins. "Don't worry, you two are safe." the officer assured, leading them over to an ambulance that was in the road.

The officer noticed how Bexley's cheek was bleeding from where the man slapped her. "We'll fix this right away." a paramedic said, climbing into the medical vehicle to get alcohol and a bandage.

The twins sat side by side, not wanting to be separated. Bexley held Ponyboy's hand tightly to keep it from shaking.

Both had a blanket wrapped around their shoulders. "Is there anybody that I can call for the both of you? Any relatives? Or friends?" the officer asked them calmly, kneeling down in front of them. "Our brothers…" Ponyboy answered, his eyes were red from the crying.

"What're their names?" he asked them. "Darry and Soda… Darry's our brother and our guardian. We called him while he was at work. Said he was coming." Ponyboy replied, glancing at his sister. She was shaking like a leaf, seemingly staring at nothing.

The paramedic had fixed her cheek. Luckily, it wasn't deep enough to require stitches, just a simple bandage. "How about your other brother? Is he at his place of work?" the officer asked. "No… he's out with his buddy, Steve." Ponyboy replied.

Just then, the officers brought the man out in cuffs. One officer was on each side of him. The man looked at the twins, his eyes were dead, having no inkling of any humanity. It was as if he had the eyes of an animal. The twins froze in fear when they saw the man being brought out of the house. He had a look that said, "I'll be back." Which couldn't be more terrifying. The man gets shoved into the police car.

Just as the man was shoved into the police car, Darry's truck screeched into the driveway. Instantly, Darry and Sodapop got out and they saw their distressed siblings by the ambulance. "Ponyboy! Bexley!" Sodapop exclaimed, running to them in a panic.

Bexley and Ponyboy see their brothers and run to them in tears. Sodapop hugged his baby brother and baby sister so tight that he believed that he'd lose them if he let them go. The siblings collapsed to their knees, holding each other so tightly and sobbing.

"I got ya guys… I got ya…" Sodapop whispered, gently rocking the twins gently. Darry went to talk with the first officer to discuss what had happened. Bexley wrapped her arms around Soda's neck tightly, her sobs muffled against his neck. Ponyboy wrapped his arms around Soda's waist, his fingers digging into Soda's flannel.

"I'm right here… It's alright now…" Soda said, shakiness in his tone. When Darry had told them about the break-in, his heart had jumped into his throat. He feared that his baby brother and baby sister would get hurt or worse, killed by this sick man. He wanted to get home immediately. He had an arm wrapped around each sibling.

After hearing what had happened, Darry came over to his younger siblings. The eldest Curtis dropped to his knees and hugged his brothers and an only sister close to him. He couldn't help but think about how that bastard laid his hands on his baby brother and baby sister.

Every part of him wanted to beat the intruder's face in. Darry loved his kid brothers and kid sister with every fiber of his being, and the last thing he wanted was for them to be hurt by this sick person who had intentions of hurting them.

What chilled them down to the bone, this man had already murdered a couple with the same knife that he used to try and stab Bexley. The details as to how they died were very gruesome. At first, he had stabbed them in their stomachs, disemboweled them, and dismembered their arms, legs, and heads.

That news made the twins become pale and visibly sick to their stomachs. If Ponyboy hadn't been there, Bexley would've been his next victim, then him. They were just glad that the bastard would be behind bars and never hurt another human being ever again.
