Jinja and Yogan were two siblings of a family residing in Sun Do, a village full of peaceful residents… but hostile visitors. Outworlders had a unique ageing pattern where they would grow up at the average speed of an Earthrealmer, but they would remain in their prime for thousands of years. Jinja and Yogan hadn't even fully grown up by the time their family was torn apart, a common theme for residents of Sun Do and those trying to survive in the tyrannical form of Outworld as a whole. Yogan was a few years younger than his sister Jinja, but both were still in their teen years when a life changing event happened.

Sun Do Chieftess named Ai Mei, mother of Li Mei who'd become a freedom fighter and Sun Do's next Chieftess, had refused to pay the ridiculously overpriced tribute that Emperor Shao Kahn would tax on all residents of his realm to apparently fund his army. There were several reasons for Ai refusing to do this, firstly there was the loss of her husband who had been forced to enrol in the Kahn Guard army where he soon died at war, then there was the fact that her village literally could not afford Shao Kahn's absurd demands. For this defiance, Shao Kahn himself joined a group of his allies as they pillaged Sun Do and slaughtered Ai Mei. One other civilian unassociated with Sun Do but was a wanderer who approached from nearby due to the sight of Shao Kahn intriguing him, saw a familiar sight to him. Shao Kahn's allies set fire to part of the village, a fire which spread to a large home made primarily out of wood.

Li Mei was not the only villager who lost part of her family that day, as Jinja and Yogan's home was caught on fire and their parents couldn't be saved. The wanderer charged into the village, hacking through several soldiers with his axe on his way to the home where he rushed inside and carried the two teenagers to freedom and made sure to aid with their injuries from the fire. The wanderer introduced himself as Saishi, and he looked after the scarred teenagers at a campsite he had set up in the Living Forest. After the two siblings had gotten familiar with this wanderer lifestyle and were comfortable around Saishi, who was becoming their new parental figure. Realising and relating to their anger and sadness over the events that had occurred thanks to Shao Kahn's horrendous rule, Saishi decided to make a revelation that the Lava Shrine Priests had agreed to never ever reveal to maintain their secrecy. He revealed that he was associated with the last of Onaga's allies, the Dragon who was the one true ruler of Outworld and partially thanks to him having gained their trust, Saishi convinced them that Onaga was the best ruler for Outworld and that since his death at the hands of Shao Kahn the realm had been plunged into darkness and that Onaga would be able to rectify everything upon his return. With their newfound knowledge and their belief in Saishi, he was happy to take Yogan and Jinja on a long journey across Outworld to the home of the Lava Shrine Priests in Mt. Eterna on the other half of the realm.

It took some convincing of the other Priests themselves before Saishi could officially deem the two teenagers as official members of their cause. For the next several years, Jinja and Yogan would be trained in martial arts as well as the ability to control their lava powers which Onaga had once more granted after approving of the newest recruits. Shao Kahn's death happened soon after the death of their parents, but Jinja and Yogan were already committed to the cause of Onaga's Holy People and they continued to train with them and prepare for their true Emperor's return. Angry and determined to execute the seemingly right thing for their native realm, Jinja and Yogan are important Lava Shrine Priests and thanks to their age they are the freshest at combat and have the potential to be the strongest fighters of their small yet powerful and determined group of sorcerers…
