Okita Hime was once a powerful onna-musha warrior, the female equivalent of a samurai, back in Earthrealm during the 1800s. Born into a family of shimin samurai, an elite status of their kind, Hime was destined to become an onna-musha herself. She spent her years training restlessly and using her practice to good use in defending territories all over feudal Japan from rivals to lords known as daimyo. Come 1868 the Meiji Restoration began, a political event which restored practical imperial rule to Japan, marking the end of the age of the samurai. In retaliation, Hime became one of many rebels against the new system, eventually joining the Black Dragon Society. This was a paramilitary of ultranationalism members, something that appealed to many including disgruntled samurai like Hime. Despite being offered a chance to flee upon their arrival, Hime stood her ground for what she believed in once more and defended the Black Dragon Society, leading to her being violently beaten by an overwhelming number of Red Dragon members. Before they killed her, however, a man rescued her and transported her to an unfamiliar place to Hime… Outworld. Morihei and a few other deserters escaped to found the Black Dragon clan, the name both to honour the society and also out of spite of the Red Dragon. Okita Hime meanwhile was nursed to health by the man who saved her. He introduced her to Outworld and himself, saying he was a powerful sorcerer named Shang Tsung. He had been observing the state of Japan both to gain information on other imperialist methods for Emperor Shao Kahn to potentially take inspiration from, whilst also observing the Black Dragon Society to see how rebellions behaved. Hime was initially frightened and concerned by the sorcerer and the work he did, but she felt as if she owed her life to him and began to serve Shang Tsung in Outworld for well over a hundred years as he used his sorcery to slow her ageing, a gift he had offered to many allies of the Outworld sorcerer before her…
