Upon waking up, Alisa Kujou expected another day full of hard work, as is the case for every single day that passed while they're on this godforsaken island.
She understood a while back that she didn't have anyone to rely on but herself at this point. Kimishima only follows Suou's orders, Kuze cared more about his sister, Taniyama and Miyamae supported him, and Sarashina was too focused on keeping everyone in line.
Alisa didn't even feel like she can rely on her own sister. While Masha was as helpful and considerate as ever, she was also passive and incapable of making a solid decision when it came down to it.
If given the chance, Alisa had a gut feeling that Masha would choose to side with the majority of opinions than her own sister.
So when Chisaki asked her not to go anywhere after finishing her breakfast, Alisa was curious. When she tried to ask why, the former Kendo Club captain simply said that they needed to talk about something important.
And in no time at all, the silver-haired girl found herself in a situation that's akin to a suspect going through a hearing in a courthouse.
She was on one side of the lounge, while everyone else gathered together away from her. All of them had disappointed expressions on their faces for some reason, especially her older sister.
"Alya-chan… do you know why we called you here?" Chisaki asked, her voice strangely calm but also on edge, as though she could snap at any moment.
"No, not at all. But whatever it is, can you make it quick? I want to get to work already," Alisa huffed, placing her hand on her hip while tapping her foot impatiently.
Chisaki's eyebrow twitched in irritation, but she took a deep breath to calm herself.
"Alya-chan, be honest. Did you intentionally attack Kuze-kun yesterday?"
Narrowing her eyes at those words, Alisa turned towards Masachika, who stood by Chisaki's side with his left foot all bandaged up.
"Really? Crying about what happened to other people now? I thought you'd be more than man enough to handle your own problems, Kuze-kun."
"Masachika-sama didn't say anything. I did," Ayano raised her hand, making the silver-haired girl turn towards her instead. "I happened to be by the door when the incident took place and saw it by chance."
"Of course you did…" Alisa scoffed and looked away.
Immediately following after, Maria stepped forward with a grim look on her face.
"After asking Kuze-kun and doing a check-up on him earlier, he sustained a sprained ankle from what you did, Alya-chan. We're just fortunate that the damage wasn't that bad, and Kuze-kun should still be able to perform some basic tasks as long as he doesn't do anything crazy."
"Well, there you go. The important thing is that he's fine, right? The matter is solved," Alya pointed out without a care in the world.
Chisaki frowned, not liking the fact that Alya isn't seeing this situation for how serious it is.
"I don't think you understand the gravity of what you did, Alya-chan. Kuze-kun is the only man here. Aside from myself, he's the only one capable of doing most of the heavy work, especially the things that need a lot of lifting. Kuze-kun is someone who's indispensable and because of your actions, he'll be limited for a while."
"We need Kuze-kun for a lot of the important things we do, Alya-chan…" Masha added.
"More importantly, as of late…" Chisaki pinched the bridge of her nose. "You've been way too violent with your outbursts. First, you slapped Ayano-chan and now, you deliberately attacked Kuze-kun with the intention of harming him."
She shook her head and stepped forward with her arms across her chest, showing off the authority she had as the leader of their group.
"...no more. This time, you have to apologize to Kuze-kun. And while you're at it, you should apologize to Ayano-chan as well."
All throughout this matter, Masachika kept his eyes solely towards Alya, while hoping and pleading in his thoughts that she would finally listen to reason and see the error of her ways.
…because it's only thanks to his and a certain someone's intervention yesterday that they were giving Alya the chance to make amends.
"This has gone too far! Alya-chan has crossed the line!"
In an uncharacteristic display of anger, Chisaki punched the table in front of her after processing everything she heard from both Masachika and Ayano just now.
"We all have to live and work together as a team in order to survive! And now, Kuze-kun got hurt because of her own issues…"
Sayaka was nodding in agreement, Nonoa was unsure on how to react, Yuki was in deep thought about something, Ayano was stoic as usual (although there was a hint of concern in her eyes for his well-being), and Masha was miserable over this whole situation.
The brunette was also the one applying bandages to his injured foot, and it seemed like the very act itself was killing her from the inside.
Why wouldn't it?
The person who got injured was someone close to her, and his injury was deliberately given to him by another individual who was also very dear to her.
The fact that her own sister hurt the childhood friend whom she treasured deeply created a pit of despair within her, and Masha had no idea what to do now.
"I think you should calm down, Sarashina-senpai… getting angry over this won't really fix anything," Nonoa tried to speak up.
"Even so, Nonoa-san…" Sayaka pushed her glasses up and sighed. "Kuze-san got injured because of Kujou-san. And to make it worse, she inflicted the injury herself. An act like this is beyond unacceptable."
"Okay, okay, yeah. You're right. I see your point…" Nonoa shrugged, before looking at the young man who was being treated for his injury. "You okay there, Kuzecchi?"
"I'm doing fine," he answered right away.
Actually, he wasn't doing fine.
Masachika didn't want to tell everyone else about his injury, knowing full well how they would react once they find out who inflicted it to him, but Masha noticed him limping while he was heading to the bathroom when it was his turn to bathe.
From there, the truth came into light and somehow, everyone wasn't surprised that Alisa was the one behind his injury… just disappointed.
As for Alisa herself, she wasn't anywhere near them right now, because she was in the midst of harvesting a new batch of crops that had just finished maturing, allowing them to talk as they pleased.
"What do you think, Masha?" Chisaki turned towards the girl's only family member at the moment, who was also the most affected by this dilemma other than Masachika himself.
"...I can't defend Alya-chan this time. She's gone too far," she muttered while lowering her head.
No one could see her face right now, but Masha's voice alone carried sadness and helplessness, as if she had lost any semblance of hope there was for Alya. It didn't help that she remained on the floor even after she was done bandaging up Masachika's foot.
"There's no excuse for this kind of behavior anymore."
"Good. I'm glad we're on the same page, Masha."
While Chisaki sent her friend a thumbs-up, Masachika stared at the brunette in disbelief, unable to believe what he was seeing before his eyes.
Alya's own sister had given up on her, even though he was confident that Masha would side with her own family.
"...if this continues any longer, it'll be hard to get things back in order again. We have to deal with this now."
"I agree, Sarashina-senpai," Yuki agreed, speaking up for the first time ever since this whole discussion started. "Putting aside the fact that we're out here trying to survive, dealing with Alya-san herself is a very serious matter. This whole matter has to end before it affects us in any way."
Sayaka nodded again. "In situations like these, there are certain elements that could threaten one's survival. Whether it is something from nature or man's own creation, there are things that can be dangerous to our well-being."
Chisaki raised an eyebrow in confusion. "What do you mean, Taniyama-san?"
"I'm saying that Kujou-san is one of those elements. I don't like it, but she has become a problem that will threaten our survival. And elements like that… must be dealt with."
"Hey, wait just a moment!"
Masachika made sure to heighten his voice on that statement so that everyone would pay attention to him instead of being lost in their discussion. Once he felt everyone's gazes were directed towards him, he continued.
"What's wrong with all of you? Didn't we all agree that Alya's just not herself right now? It's true that she's been prone to a lot of outbursts, but we can still fix this!" he looked towards the brown-haired girl before him, "Masha-san, are you actually giving up on your sister?"
Maria Kujou lowered her head and remained quiet, unable to answer that question… or could it be that she's simply unwilling to do so?
This time, Sayaka frowned. She could understand his persistence the first time, but he's turning out to be just as hard-headed as Alisa herself.
"Your kindness is admirable, Kuze-san. It really is. However, there's a limit to the extent of one's behavior that we can tolerate."
"Look, it's not even her fault. I said something I shouldn't have. That's why she got angry at me. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
"That still does not permit Kujou-san to hurt another individual, just like how she isn't permitted to look down on others as she pleases."
"She's not. This is all a big misunderstanding because we're thinking of the worst right away. Alya can still be reasoned with, I know it."
"We can argue about this for the rest of the day, but our opinions won't change, Kuze-san. There are two undeniable facts, however. And it is the fact that Kujou-san has assaulted you and Kimishima-san with the intent of harming you both."
"But—"
"Why are you still defending Kujou-san? Why do you keep on lending her an unneeded hand? You know she is wrong, Kuze-san. Don't tell me that this is your answer to the question I asked you several days ago."
"I know she's wrong, but we can still resolve—"
"Everyone, how about we just do this?"
Yuki clapped her hands several times, making everyone look at her, including Taniyama and her brother.
"If Alya-san apologizes to Masachika-kun, then we can forgive her and forget about this whole thing. We should be able to get something out of her if we all asked her together."
"Suou-san…" Sayaka muttered in surprise. "You would really allow her to go unpunished? Kujou-san purposefully injured your brother because she felt like it."
Yuki shrugged and folded her arms. "Oh, don't get me wrong. I want to give Alya-san a taste of her own medicine, but I understand Masachika-kun's point of view. I don't trust her, but I trust my brother. If he thinks that there's hope for Alya-san to realize the things she's done, then let's allow her the chance to apologize."
Other than Sayaka, everyone carried different reactions to Yuki's suggestion.
Chisaki and Nonoa were both unsure of Yuki's suggestion, remembering the last time that they tried to reason with the silver-haired girl, an attempt that ended in failure.
Strangely, Maria had no visible reaction on her face, though it's because she kept her head low and hid her expression from everyone else. Ayano showed no reaction as well, but she was ready to support her mistress in whatever she chooses to do.
Masachika sighed in relief, feeling grateful for his sister's timely intervention. Oh, how lucky he felt that he was able to convince her before everyone else.
"But if that doesn't work out…" Yuki sighed, moving on to the hard part of her suggested plan of action…
"Alya, just stop with the stubbornness… please… just apologize so we can get this over with… it's for your own good!"
Masachika pleaded within his thoughts for the girl to see reason and realize that this entire conflict isn't worth destroying her relationships with other people. He can personally look past her outbursts, but the same can't be said for everyone else.
"I know that deep down, you're still the same Alya I've watched and admired all these years… please! Just apologize! It's not about me, it's about you!"
He would then get his answer in the form of Alya speaking in a low voice that conveyed bewilderment, but not in the way he had hoped for.
"Мне? Извиниться перед ним?"
Alya slowly raised her head, looking utterly disgusted at the thought of apologizing to the person whom she gravely hurt yesterday.
"Never."
