We are back. We last left off with the Asgardians learning the Devils have attacked the Seneca tribe. Now will find out what happens today.
Thunder Strike: I have plans for Hrotti and it doesn't involve Thor.
Thor x Rose fan: Hahaha! XD that's a question I cannot answer. I haven't planned that far ahead XD
Ultra Magnus: Wait and see when we get to it.
Altair: The classic rage power cliche may happen…
Geyser: Nor did I until I did some research. There are a lot of dragons from many different mythologies.
Valtazar: Indeed the Four Satan's won't be happy to hear about this issue. If they hear about it.
BlackSoundwave: Just because Rollo is a high-level priest doesn't mean he is on the same level as Thor. Rollo isn't Vasco level power.
Battlefield: Indeed blood will flow. I wouldn't say this is an act of war but more of an act of..terroisim.
"Those villains!" Snarled Cadmus, the flash of anger in his brown orbs was like a dagger drawn beneath a full moon, "I don't care about the consequences, those nobles should all die!"
"I agree." Chayton said, "and they would if they didn't barricade themselves in the town hall with a dozen hostages."
"Hostages!?" Cried Peru and Leif together.
Chayton nodded grimly, "Yes. Hostages. Every human sent to negotiate is turned away. No doubt it's through the use of hypnosis magic. I think they only want to speak with us."
"Why?" Asked Rossweisse.
Leif Erikson cleared his throat, "The Underworld had a treaty with the Native American Pantheon to allow any Devil entry into the countryside but with permission by the American Gods. Now that treaty has been broken by this unlawful attack."
"An attack no doubt to give them leverage to find Fafnir's treasure." Rossweisse deduced immediately, "They know we can't attack them without hurting the hostages. We take them to the treasure then they'll release the hostages. I hope."
As one the chieftains and Asgardians marched to the town hall were a company of police were gathered. The police were hypnotized to leave the reservation before having their memories altered by the chiefs. As soon as the area was clear Sigrun stepped forward calling out kings of the Peerages. The doors opened and out came Agothdorzen Sollas, Balog Vassago, and Sarroxan Paimon, the latter wearing a look of smug triumph as he smoked his pipe. Their Peerages following suit, many Devils the Asgardians realize were not among them meaning they must have died in New York.
"How!?" Growled Thor.
Agothdorzen spoke beneath his hood, "House Sollas has the ability to track magic. I only use it when we are hunting Stray Devils who escape us or…other enemies. Leading us to this Indian reservation."
"Which you proceeded to attack!" Yelled Rota, gesturing to the damage inflicted by the sinful beings, "You broke your treaty with the Native American Pantheon! Murdered many innocent people!"
Balog sneered at the Valkyrie, "A broken treaty is insignificant next to the greatest treasure of the Supernatural World!"
Agothdorzen hung his head, "The attack was unnecessary..."
"It got us what we need." Sarroxan said, "I'm sure you figured out why we took hostages, yes?"
"To lead you to Fafnir's treasure." Sigrun said, her voice staying calm, "Rossweisse is the only one who knows the way and how to open it."
"Rossvisa? Oh yes, the Valkyrie with silver hair who killed Odina-"
"Rossweisse didn't kill Odina, Balog did!" Cadmus cut in.
Sarroxan scoffed, "Accusing a fellow noble of murder won't work, boy. We wouldn't betray one another. Since Rossvisa has all the information she will take us there and open the seal. After that…I will let you go back to Asgard with a warning to never come back to New York after the trouble you caused."
Rota's eyes flashed, "You mean the trouble YOU caused by attacking us!"
"I repeat." Sarroxan said ignoring Rota, "Surrender and make Rossvisa take us to the treasure, and your lives will be spared."
Thor stepped forward, his anger was like a boiler ready to explode. He was hoping beyond hope they would no longer have to deal with Devils or Exorcists but these nobles were hell bent to get that treasure. He wished so badly to get his powers back and unleash bolt after bolt of lightning onto these greedy bats but still he could not summon any magic and even if he could he may hurt the hostages they have.
"Well?" Balog asked, unaware of Thor's angry glare or ignoring it, "Do you submit? We have you outnumbered."
"Outnumbered but not out skilled." Sigrun replied, eyes glancing this way and that, "I see many faces missing among the Vassago and Paimon Peerage. Did Rollo and his Exorcists prove more difficult than you expected?"
"Acceptable losses." Balog said, flicking his hand as if he was shooing away a fly, "But yes, he did cut down some of our servants but they are easily replaceable."
The look Sigrun saw on Sarroxan 's face said otherwise, the servants he had must have been dear to him or merely useful for their skills. Skills that clearly were no match for either Asgard or Exorcists. These Devils were without a doubt the most arrogant people she had ever met. Gently she grabbed Thor's shoulder to push him back before saying, "We submit."
"Excellent!" Cried Paimon, "We will leave as soon as possible. Oh and bring Leif Eirkson with you."
"And now you will release the hostages?" Takoda asked, a hint of hope flashing in his eyes but died at Paimon's reply.
"We will release the hostages after we get the treasure. Until then, the Sollas Peerage stays to watch them so no tricks happen from your side."
"Done." Sigrun agreed before speaking to the chieftains, "What will you do?"
"We will rebuild and erase the memories of this event of those not affiliated to the Supernatural world." Wishe answered, "We will tell the Spirits about this…this…" He faltered.
"About this terrorist attack." Cinon said grimly, "We will tell them when this is over."
The Asgardians thanked the Chiefs for their help and said goodbye before joining their hostage takers to go to the treasure's location. When the teleportation seal was made they stepped through to find themselves in the middle of a dense foggy forest. Balog Vassago became suspicious but Rossweisse reassured the horned man before peering through the forest and leading them in the right direction.
"You know you never answered why you were in New York?" Cadmus asked the older Einherjar as they followed Odin's bodyguard, the Vassago and Paimon Peerage, keeping a close eye on all of them for any funny business.
Leif chuckled, "Oh yes I had forgotten about that. Well, I was in New York on business of my own. I went to see an orchestra of Norwegian folk music. After that I took a walk around the city and was just about to leave when that barrier was cast by the Devils trapping me inside. I knew I could get out of it easily but my curiosity for why they would do something like this in broad daylight caught my attention. Eventually my wandering led me to you five trapped in those spells. I freed you and here we are now."
"Huh. Guess Heimdall did see us meeting you. Even if it was in the most unexpected way." Said Cadus, Rota giggled beside him.
In the front Sigrun asked Thor, "How were you able to defeat Rollo so easily if he's a high ranking officer in the Church?"
Listening in on the conversion Sarroxan chimed in, "Rollo and the other Exorcists are used to fighting Devils, not Gods."
Sigrun glanced at Rossweisse and whispered, "Paimon is right but Rollo should have put up a better fight. I think he lost because of something else. Did you notice his reaction when Thor was preparing to fight? The fighting stance looked familiar to Rollo."
"What do you mean?" Rossweisse whispered back.
Sigrun leaned in closer so Paimon would not hear, "I mean Thor must know hand-to-hand combat from the Church. They must have taught it to him."
Aqua eyes widened, "Sigrun-"
"Thor told me about his life with the Church. Don't worry, I promise I won't tell anyone."
Rossweisse nodded, "He has come to earn your trust to confide in you this knowledge. That is good. Maybe in time he will come to tell all of Asgard."
Speaking of Thor, Rossweisse noticed the God of Thunder glaring hatefully at the Devils with fists clenching and unclenching relentlessly. Dropping back somewhat to walk beside him she whispered, "We are all angry about what the Devils have done but you must keep it contained until the right moment."
The fire in the redheads' blue eyes diminished to an ember, but like a candle in a dark room still glowed. His fists tightened to help contain his rage at the Devil's actions and inability to use magic. Had overdoing it back at New York cut off his ability to use magic or was it taking longer than he thought? Whatever the reason he wished he had it right now to teach these fools who they were dealing with. He may not have magic but he still had his fists and would be sure to use them to pound these greedy bats to death!
The rest of the trek was silent until Rossweisse led them for five minutes before descending down a hill toward a large stone the size of a house. Rossweisse inspected the stone thoroughly before nodding with satisfaction.
"This is it!" She cried, "It is exactly as Gaasyendietha explained it."
"Then get to work, warrior maiden." Sarroxan said, eager to dig his hands into gold.
Rossweisse ignored the smoker's words but stepped forward anyway with arms raised high as she began speaking incantations causing Norse runes to appear on the trees closest to the stone and more runes with a large magic seal on the flat rock.
"There are layered barriers protecting the entrance. It will take a few moments but I will get it open."
From behind her, Thor prayed Rossweisse wasn't stupid enough to comply with the enemy. He hoped she would try finding a way to open the portal to let only herself through. If she could do that then at least she could get to the treasure while he and the others held off the enemy. Thor knew they were outnumbered but they had the skill and if they were fast enough could even prevent the Paimon and Vassago Peerages from ordering the Sollos Peerage to kill the hostages.
As soon as she opened the portal Thor dived for Rossweisse, shoving her as hard as he could through it. At the same time their came blinding light behind him and many cries of pain by the Devils. Turning about to join his friends he instead was greeted by Leif Eirkson shoving him off his feet into the portal. The last thing he saw before the portal shut was the old Einherjar shouting "Get that treasure!" before joining the Valkyries and Cadmus in a counterattack on the recovering Devils.
"NO!" Thor's shout echoed in the cave as he scrambled to his feet and pounding futility on the stone. Wishing his powers were back and he could break it easily and help his friends. He kept hitting the stone until the gloved hand of Rossweisse firmly grasped his shoulder. Angry blue eyes stared at surprised aqua eyes. With a shaking breath he bitterly growled, "I suppose this could only be opened on the outside?"
Rossweisse nodded, "With our dire predicament I had no choice. If we hadn't been followed we could have all gone together."
"I was supposed to stay outside to help."
"Would it? You still can't use any magic-"
"I still have my physical strength!" Thor yelled, "I could have helped them!"
"You could have." Agreed Rossweisse unaffected by the God raising his voice, "But then I would be lonely without you."
Thor looked back at Rossweisse and realized she had taken hold of his hand, the armor and glove felt cold but her fingers were warm to the touch. His anger slowly sizzled away like water pouring onto a fire. He knew he should be out there helping his friends but to leave Rossweisse in here alone in here tugged at his heartstrings. Thor would be sure to thank Leif for sending him through the portal to accompany Rossweisse, if the others were still alive after they got the treasure. Still holding hands, they walked deeper into the cave, the dark being banished by the Allfather's bodyguard using a light spell to give visibility. Descending a slope they saw a glow at the bottom which was revealed to be a corridor lit by torches that never diminished, Rossweisse mused Fafnir must have used a spell to keep them burning forever adding reassurance this area did not have any traps set.
"How many traps were set to keep intruders away?" Asked Thor.
"A lot." Rossweisse answered, "Fafnir was sure to set up layers upon layers of seals to make sure no one got to his treasure. I will need to concentrate when we reach each of them. It wasn't easy opening the portal with those Devils surrounding us. I was worried they would attack us before I could get it open until Paimon wanted it opened."
Thor shook his head, "They are determined to get the treasure. To fact they spied on the Exorcist who spied on us must mean they are not great fighters."
"Of course they aren't." Said Rossweisse, "Remember how easily we beat Paimon's Peerage? We lost the second battle because they caught us by surprise. Nevertheless we still killed a number of Devils before Leif Eirkson saved us. I'm sure they can hold them off for us."
Thor looked back the way they came, fists tightening as he growled, "I just hope they don't get in here."
Outside
Sarroxan frowned over his shoulder at the Asgardians as he worked on breaking the seal with Balog. Although victorious, the Lord of House Paimon was not pleased one bit. That little trick Leif pulled blinding them had allowed two of their prisoners to jump through the portal and the others to counterattack. Although quick to recover and subdue the prisoners the damage was already done; Balog's entire Peerage was gone and Sarroxan lost his four remaining Pawn, both his Knights, and a Rook. His Peerage had already lost a third of its strength at the skirmish in New York and now only he, his Queen Balthazar Furfur, his other Rook Alafaron Shax, and both Bishops Malacoda Forneus and Typhegor Beleth remained to guard the now sealed prisoners.
Despite the losses the tobacco addicted Devil was left in shock and awe at the courage and skill they displayed. Granted, it should have been expected when facing a Pantheon whose people are always fighting. The battle could have been won quicker with less casualties if Agothdorzen and his Peerage were here to help, then he remembered that the Sollas Peerage always stayed out of the conflicts.
In the end they recaptured their prisoners and soon will break this seal and besides. Besides, like Balog said, they can always renew there losses. That put a very evil thought into Lord of House Paimon's head that made him smile viciously. Why let these warriors go when he can keep them for himself to renew his Peerage? Two of those Valkyries will be useful as a Knight and the third one, Roshvise, can be very helpful as Bishop, and the old man Eirkson and the boys can become his newest Pawns.
That, of course, will happen after claiming the treasure for the Underworld.
As the minutes ticked by with no luck of the seal breaking fury blossomed within the Lord of House Paimon. He had to get this blasted door open and stop Rossvise and the boy claiming to be the God of Thunder from reaching the treasure before him! If he could capture them he could make them his servants but if it came to killing then so be it. Adding more power to his demonic energy the seal finally broke and he rushed in with Balog close behind.
Down they went, their hands glowing to show the way. Need drove them on to stop their escaped prisoners from reaching the treasure before them. They could not allow them to claim it first. It belonged to him! It belonged to the Underworld!
Exiting the corridor lit by torches the pair was met by a large purple seal suddenly appearing before them. Immediately, they raised their hands to cast barriers to protect against the hail of arm sized icicles shooting out of the seal like a hundred archers.
"Magical booby traps!?" Balog yelled half surprised, half angrily, "That woman didn't tell us anything about these!"
"She may have set them herself to slow us down!" Paimon answered, "Well it wont!"
Back outside
Typhegor Beleth and the other Paimon servants stood guard over the Asgardians. Every type of sealing magic known by him and Malacoda Forneus was placed on their prisoners to keep them from trying anymore tricks. He glared at them, remembering the chaos caused by their arrival. All of which could have been avoided if they had just listened to his master and shared the treasure instead of fighting and killing Pureblood and reincarnated Devils. Devils whom he had grown close to after joining Paimon's Peerage.
First Odina, then the Barbatos twins, and the others. So many could have lived if these stupid Pagans had just worked together with Lord Paimon!
"That's strange." Said Balthazar Furfur after closing a communication seal, "I can't contact Lord Paimon. All I get is static. Fafnir may have put some seals to scramble communication within his layer."
"Why would you want to contact him?"
"Because I wanted to know what we should do with the prisoner."
"I'll tell you what you can do." Typhegor looked at the talker, the brown haired boy, glaring at them, "You can kill us."
"Kill you?" Repeated Balthazar.
"Yeah. Kill us." Repeated the warrior, "We'd rather die than become slaves to a madman who breaks treaties to steal gold!"
Typhegor glanced at the other prisoners to see what they thought of the boy's words, they shared the same defiant expression. The younger member of House Beleth would comply. He raised his hand to prepare a spell to erase them all from existence. He paused and changed his mind. He would not use a simple magic bullet to the head, he'll skewer them on giant ice pillars and display them to his lord when he returned with the treasure.
"Typhegor!" Balthazar called, his brow furrowing, "Don't do it."
"Why not, Bal?" Typhegor said, addressing the Queen by his nickname, "They are warriors and warriors prefer to die than be prisoners. Might as well give them what they want."
"Lord Paimon will not be pleased if you do this. He wanted them captured for a reason."
The Bishop's purple eyes rolled in annoyance, "Probably to mock them after getting the gold. I say we just kill them and comply with their wishes."
"Yeah, that's right, bat! Go on and kill us!" The Asgardian warrior yelled, "To tell with what your master says. Disobey your orders and give us an honorable death!"
Typhegor sneered and raised his hand to cast the spell, "With pleasure!"
Just then a magic seal appeared, it was the color blue with a capital "A" that had a wider "v" in place of the usual horizontal line, devil wings above it, a heart on top of the A, and a tiara on top. The appearance of this seal had the Asgardians confused but whoever was coming made all the Devils freeze in fear. Out of the seal stepped a tall thin woman with petite proportions, reddish brown hair tied into a long single braid reaching to the middle of her back and sharp green eyes.
"Lady Stolas!" Balthazar cried in surprise, looking past her he saw another woman appear and his heart quickened at the sight, not in awe of her beauty but in fear. This woman was in her late teens with long, pale greenish blonde hair, long slit pink eyes, and glasses that gave off an impression of being cold. Her clothes were a blue robe covering most of her body save for her hands and high boots. Something about this girl doubled the fear in the Paimon Peerage. "Lady Seekvaira Agares!?"
The now named green haired girl's eyes narrowed behind her glasses, "Release the Asgardians this instant."
Balthazar did not waste words and broke the seals binding the Asgardians in place before saying, "Why are-"
"Agothdorzen told me everything." Seekvaira interrupted, her tone calm but an edge could be heard in it
"Agothdorzen!?" Typhegor yelled but closed his mouth under the intense gaze of Olessias and Seekvaira.
"I warned Sarroxan but he did not listen and now look what has happened! Attacking foreigners AND breaking our treaty with the natives. As well as taking hostages! All of this for gold! Gold! He and Balog put the clans Paimon and Vassago to shame!" Said the Lady of House Stolas angrily.
"Great shame." Seekvaira said, eyes sweeping over the Devils, "Agothdorzen called Olessias and she called my father who told me everything. I am here to speak on Lord Agares' behalf! You will all stand down immediately. You will heal the Asgardians of the wounds you inflicted upon them. You help rebuild what you destroyed of the Indian reservation, if they will want our help after the killings you did. And you will help me stop Balog and Paimon before they do any more harm."
Each word Seekvaira spoke was firm and demanding, like a general giving orders to his army. None of the Devils of Paimon's Peerage would dare object to the word of the Underworld's Archduke. Hastily they healed the prisoners, muttering apologies for what they did which the Asgardians did not accept.
Seekvaira scanned the warriors of Asgard with keen eyes, so those are the Valkyries of Valhalla. Lord Lucifer has servants from that faction. Perhaps they can tell me more about them.
The old man stepped forward and said, "I suppose now we are working to stop a common foe we should introduce ourselves."
"We can do that on the way to stopping those madmen, Balog and Sarroxan." Seekvaira said before quickly marching into the cave with the others following.
Deep inside the cave
The last barrier dissolved, allowing the youngest son of Odin and his bodyguard to step through before reactivating it. They had barely reached the third booby trap when they heard an explosion from behind. Realizing the Devils had broken in, the young warrior maiden had chosen to reset the traps and apply layered seals of her own to slow them down. Gaasyendietha told Rossweisse what each trap did and they would get tougher the closer they got to Fafnir's treasure. The Dragon King said Asgard could have his treasure but seeing how desperate these Devils were to get it they would have to do it the old fashion way; touch the gold and announce they claim it for Asgard.
Two more booby traps to get through and then it was theirs.
"Gaasyendietha did tell you all the traps right? He didn't leave anything out?" Asked Thor as they rounded a corner to a large chamber with multiple seals that Rossweisse began working on immediately.
"Yes." Said Rossweisse concentrating on deactivating the seals, "I just hope those extra seals will hold them off."
"As do I." Said Thor glancing back to be sure they were still alone, "I hope the others are ok as well. If anything happened to them…"
"Will worry about that after we get the treasure. They wouldn't dare hurt them unless they want to feel Asgard's wrath."
"What do you mean?"
"You're the prince of Asgard. If any Devil, be it low or high born, hurts or even kills you, Odin will declare war on the Underworld."
"He would do that just for me?"
Rossweisse broke the seal and stared Thor head in the eye saying, "You are his son, Thor. You have been gone for centuries. If he loses you again…he will want blood."
"Which is why we will only give you a warning for causing trouble."
Rossweisse jumped forward, arms raised with seals in each hand as Sarroxan and Balog rounded the corner, the former she saw was limping and sporting a bloody leg. Her extra traps had helped in not only slowing them down but even wounding one. She may have a chance against them.
"Your magic is amazing, Rossvisa. It took us time to break those extra seals you applied on those booby traps. I was even wounded by one. After all, Asgard is the most advanced society in terms of magic knowledge." Paimon said, "I will give you one last chance to walk away."
"No more chances, Sarroxan!" Balog said as flames appeared in his hands, "We either kill them or turn them into our servants!"
Rossweisse's eyes flashed, "I will never become a Devil!"
She let loose large beams of light followed by a dozen thin icicles looking like a wall of arrows fired by archers. The two nobles answered in kind with barriers that cracked against the Light Spells while great blasts of fire evaporated the ice with nothing remaining. Another seal appeared next to Vassago that would have blown winds as strong as hurricanes to carve his face if not for Paimon shattering it with magic bullets. Two more seals appeared in front of Rossweisse and a combined water and lightning attack met Vassago's fire causing the corridor to be covered by hot steam. More blasts of fire and magic bullets cut through the steam to hurt the Valkyrie but Rossweisse was a split second ahead of the nobles. Although not efficient in Defense magic, the silver haired genius learned to use Sealing magic as a defense to block her foes' attacks by blocking the corridor with layered seals.
Behind her Thor watched the magical duel, eyes focused on Rossweisse. Each attack sent her way was quickly countered before it could hit her. Truly, she was worthy of being Odin's bodyguard. If only he could do something, anything, to help her win the battle. He could try rushing the Devils and punch them until they are unconscious like he did to Rollo.
"Thor!" Cried Rossweisse over the colliding spells, "Get to the treasure and claim it for Asgard! I will and hold them off!"
This brought the prince out of his thoughts, leave Rossweisse to fend off these villains alone? Fafnir's treasure was important but Rossweisse, his tutor, his friend, was just as important as piles of jewels. He would stay and help defeat Paimon and Vassago. He tightened his fists and bent his knees to rush the enemy but stopped short when one of Vassago's fire spells hit the wall sending chunks of rock flying into all directions. A large rock smacked Rossweisse hard in the head causing the Valkyrie to lose focus and let Paimon land a solid hit on the girl with large magic bullets.
Thor froze watching the Valkyrie stumble before standing defiant with smoke rising from her body. It was like watching a firing squad trying to execute a prisoner who refused to die. Even though she looked defiant he could see her breathing heavily and many scotch marks on her armor and tears on her leotard. He cleaned the armor with her in the teepee and it made him angry to see their hard work ruined. He was doubly angry at these greedy Devils for hurting Rossweisse and himself for not helping her sooner.
"I'm impressed." Paimon said, with a puff of his pipe, "The Valkyries of Asgard are powerful warriors. You survived a rock to the head and my spell. Perhaps another will put you down. For good."
As blood flowed down Rossweisse's head like lava from an erupting volcano she steeled herself for Paimon's next spell. Her head was throbbing with pain and her vision was blurry but still she gathered her magic to continue the fight. If killing Balog and Sarroxan had to be done before reaching the treasure then so be it.
With an evil thought to insult the warriors of Asgard, especially the red haired boy, the Lord of House Paimon cast a lightning spell in the hopes of paralyzing Rossweisse and then turning her into his servant. The spell, however, was met by the redhead jumping in the way, hands raised as if to catch it. The amusement of watching this boy get electrocuted died instantly when the lightning bolt did not hurt the boy but instead was disappearing into his hands. It took Sarroxan a second to realize his spell was being absorbed and empowering the boy like a phone being recharged. When the last of it vanished a blue aura appeared around the boy and his eyes flashed white.
Only the crackle of electricity broke the silence that fell in the corridor. Rossweisse, applying a seal above her head to stop the flow of blood, felt hope rise in her chest. Thor finally had his power back and it left the Lords of House Vassago and Paimon in wonder and terror.
"It.. it's true." Sarroxan whispered, unable to summon the courage to cast a spell. All this time he thought this was just a warrior from Valhalla like the other boy but now he pieced it together. Red hair, quick temper, absorbing lighting. "You really are the-"
The rest of his sentence died in his throat. The moment Sarroxan blinked, Thor was in front of him, arm pulled back to deliver, quite possibly, the punch that would kill him. He felt his pipe slip from his mouth before he heard and felt no more.
The punch to Sarroxan's face sent him flying down the corridor before slamming into the wall at the corner, sparks dancing around his body as he slid down to the ground with tiny rocks falling onto him. Blood dripped from his nose and flowed from his jaw, both severely broken by the attack. If he was dead or alive would be discovered after dealing with Balog.
"Your next." Thor growled at the horned man. Before he could send another punch the power he had suddenly disappeared and he felt his legs go weak. The fear in Balog's eyes immediately changed to triumph then anger.
"You'll pay for that, Son of Odin!"
The fire that would have engulfed Thor never came for a great stream of water slammed into House Vassago's ruler, sending him crashing to the floor before a flurry of other spells blasted the fallen Devil followed by another spell aimed at the rock above burying Balog and sealing the corridor. Silence fell the hall again as Thor blinked in surprise before Rossweisse grabbed his shoulder and pulled him along.
"That won't hold him forever but it gives us time to get to a treasure." Rossweisse said, "What happened back there?"
"I think that spell allowed me to regain my magic for a moment. Does that mean I must absorb lightning?"
"It means you can absorb lightning to regain straight but you still need rest to fully regain it. When we get back to Asgard you're taking a long deserved rest. No training until then."
"Rossweisse." Said the God of Thunder.
"We aren't going to argue about this, Thor. You need rest to recover your magical stamina." Rossweisse said, focused on getting through the corridor while at the same time erecting layered seals every few minutes to deter Balog as long as possible.
"It's not about that. It's about you. You are incredible. Your title as Odin's bodyguard truly is nothing to scoff at."
Rossweisse stopped short and stared at Thor. When was the last time someone complimented her like that? Shaking the thought away, she focused again on getting out of the hall and setting more traps.
They exited the corridor into an enormous hall and at the end of the hall, the floor led to a great chasm. The other side had a massive seal carved into the wall and could only be reached by a slender bridge of stone without a railing, that spanned the chasm with one curving spring of fifty feet...it could only be crossed in a single file. At the brink Rossweisse halted and peered over the edge, she shuttered seeing the depth was unmeasurable.
How far will someone fall before reaching the bottom? She said to herself before talking to the prince, "This is it, Thor. This is the last trap Fafnir set to keep trespassers from reaching his treasure. This bridge is the only way to it. This hall is layered with Security System Magic, Norse Magic, and Rune Symbols. Gaasyendietha said the Runes Symbols are what prevent us from flying across and that this last trap will take hours to break."
"But not for you. You're a master magician. You can break these seals quickly."
Before she could answer an unearthly ear splitting roar came from the corridor followed by a red glow, a great heatwave. Out came Balog for Balog it was due to the horns but he was different, much different. His clothes were gone leaving him naked save for the flames that covered him like armor. The parts of skin that could be seen looked like they were third-degree burns but did not harm him. Black smoke trailed behind like a cape worn by a king. Combined with his horns the fire made it look as if he was wearing a crown.
The more Thor stared at Balog the more it reminded him of the dream he had where he was surrounded by fire and ash while falling.
"I am Balrog Vassago! AND I WILL! HAVE! THAT! TREASURE!" The Devil's voice echoed around the hall as he grew in size now standing twenty feet tall.
Rossweisse stared open mouthed in surprise at her foe's new form, was this his family's special trait or something he alone could do? That question she did not care to have answered. All that mattered now was stopping this madman once and for all.
"Over the bridge!" She cried recalling strength, "Run! Get to the treasure! I will hold the way! Run!"
The God of Thunder wanted to refuse the Valkyrie and stay to aid her but her steely gaze left him unable to. His mind told him to help but his body was already in motion over the bridge. Anger filled him. He should help her not sit back as he had been doing since coming to America! He COULD help her if he willed himself to turn back.
His desire finally won but as he turned back he was left stunned at the sight before him. In the center of the span stood Rossweisse, arms spread wide as magic seals appeared in front of her like a wall barring the way for the fiery monstrous that Balog Vassago had become. Like the rest of him, Vassago's wings were coated in fire but as he flapped them he could not lift himself off the ground. Though angered at being denied flight he nevertheless advanced toward the bridge, flames swirling around his clawed hands. The heat emitting from him was like an oncoming inferno.
"Rossweisse!" Cried Thor, the Valkyrie must not hear him or chose to ignore him. Her attention solely focused on stopping Balog.
"You cannot pass!" Said Rossweisse and the Pureblood Devil halted. "I am a warrior maiden of Asgard! Bodyguard of the Allfather! You cannot pass! The treasure of Fafnir is not yours to claim! Go back or suffer the consequences! You cannot pass!"
Balog made no answer as he swiped a great fiery clawed hand. Great torrents of water and beams of light shot forth in answer! There was an explosion and a stab of white light. Balog fell back, his fiery hand now smoked with pain. The Valkyrie swayed on the bridge, stepped back a pace, and then again stood still.
"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" She said,
With a roar Balog threw himself at Rossweisse, his fiery hands reaching out to strangle or stab her. But even as he did the Valkyrie turned her spells upon the bridge, erasing it from existence. Fear and rage flashed through the Devil's eyes as gravity began to pull him down, down, into the dark abyss.
So this is were my story ends, is it? Said Rossweisse to herself as she felt the ground beneath her start to give way, I do not regret this choice to keep the treasure safe but… I wish I could have been able to have a boyfriend.
Suddenly a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist, lifted her up effortlessly, and put her over broad shoulders. Thor had come charging across the bridge to save her but would he make it in time? She bounced like cargo on a car going over round terrain as the Aesir prince ran as fast as he could.
"Sorry!" Said Thor before pausing in his run to spin and throw the girl as hard as could before continuing his run.
Rossweisse landed on the other side roughly but unharmed. Looking back she saw, with rapidly widening eyes, the last of Balog disappear over the edge and Thor, her prince, her savior, running, running, before giving a great leap as the earth beneath his feet broke apart. Arms outstretched Thor flew through the air, hair flapping like the cape on a superhero in the wind before gravity pulled him down and vanished into the chasm.
Surprising! Its not Rias to be the first cannon Devil to appear in my story!
Yes I took inspiration from Gandalf's you shall not pass for Rossweisse but how can I not when it's so iconic?
Besides that I don't have much else to say except get ready for the next chapter.
