Dick: Think about it; a chapter featuring ice villains in December…
Artemis: …People may be onto something about you being a troll.
Megan: So will I be in this chapter?

Chapter 13: Terrors
(New Orleans)
"This is Cat Grant with the Fact Channel, live from the historic French Quarter!" shouted Cat, as the sky was littered with seismic booms. "Superman and Martian Manhunter are in a pitched battle with the so-called Terror Twins, who have been on a three-state rampage through the American South!"
In the skies above the French Quarter, Martian Manhunter held up his hands to psychically stop a car that was flying at him and Superman caught another with his bare hands. They were batted away just in time to see the so-called 'Terror Twins' leaping at them. Both men caught the sibling duo and spun them around, flinging them both into a nearby warehouse.
"Ow…" Tommy Terror grunted out, rubbing the back of his head. He and his twin sister, Tuppence, rose to their feet, wincing. The blonde-haired supervillain looked around the warehouse they were in, seeing abandoned Mardi Gras floats that looked like something out of a horror movie…
Before he or Tuppence could react, Drive and Mystic Warrior emerged from the Shadows. They both clamped collars around their neck, both collars powering up as red lights activated. Tommy tried to resist, but the blue Zordroid was able to effortlessly force his hands behind his back.
"What the—? What happened to mah strength? Ah just went toe ta toe with Superman!" declared Tommy, only to hear a scoff from the darkness.
"Only because he was holding back…" said Superboy, emerging from the shadows, revealing that he was now dressed exactly like Tommy. His blonde hairstyle, the white tank top, the torn black leather pants with the red suspenders, the padlock, and the chain he wore across his neck… Tommy would've assumed he was a fanboy if it wasn't for the guy having the same face as him.
"What the hell…?" said Tuppence. Superboy turned back to the shadows.
"You ready, 'Sister Tuppence'?" He said into the shadows in a fake southern accent, and now it was Tuppence's turn to be shocked as Jasmine stepped out, looking and dressed exactly like the Terror Twin. Her get-up was largely identical to Tommy's but with the black pants replaced by a skirt.
"I'm practicing my accent, 'Brother Tommy.'" replied Jasmine. The Twins looked at them in confusion.
"Hey, Ah need some answers!" demanded Tommy. Batman stepped out of the shadows.
"It's simple." The Dark Knight clamped two collars around their necks, red lights powering on. "They're under arrest."
(The next day, Chicago)
"This is Lois Lane reporting live from Chicago, where Red Tornado, after not being seen for months, is battling what appears to be the Abominable Snowman himself!" informed a black-haired, blue-eyed journalist. The camera then showed Red Tornado firing two of his namesake against a large freeze breath of the 'Abominable Snowman'. As legends foretold, he's burly and yeti-like with white fur. He has grey claws on his right hand and feet, a greyish-blue face, yellow eyes with purple pupils, and a pair of fangs protruding upwards from his bottom jaw. A pair of frozen horns lay atop his head, along with a pair of ice pikes on his tail and his entire left arm is purely a skeletal arm covered in ice. He wears a gold band on his right bicep, a gold belt adorned with a blue gem that holds up a blue loincloth, and a big blue cape held by a gold charm around his shoulders.
"For a so-called legend, you appear to be quite formidable," commented Red Tornado. Quickly, he diverted the clash of winds to the side, dispersing them. The Abominable Snowman shielded his eyes from the leftover winds, leaving him vulnerable to another tornado's lift before being thrown to an ice wall he made earlier. Breaking through, he stood and held his head, disoriented, before feeling something metallic wrap around his neck… along with plenty of his power diminishing.
"RRRRRAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH!"
(Belle Reve, Two Days Later)
The prison transport rocked as it rolled across the bumpy road, the interior eerily silent as Jasmine's eyes scanned the interior. Next to her was Conner, in his disguise as 'Tommy', dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit. In addition to the power restraining collar, he wore a set of power-dampening shackles, just like she did, for extra security. A single guard holding a shotgun was at the front of the holding area. Jasmine looked to the back of the transport, seeing Mister Freeze wearing an orange jumpsuit over his life support suit, sitting within a specialized seating area. She looked across from here, seeing Icicle Jr eying her.
'Oh boy…' rolled Jasmine, hiding a look of disgust when the villain winked and blew a kiss at her. Finally, she looked at the transport's last occupant: the 'Abominable Snowman', wearing larger versions of the shackles and a barely fitting prison jumpsuit. Catching her look at him, the 'Snowman' snarled. Pretending to be frightened, Jasmine looked down to her shackles, reminiscing.
Flashback
She and Conner were all in the Cave briefing area, standing before Batman and the Zordriods as the briefing area powered on.
"Grant Walker, aka Mr. Freeze II. Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold. Cameron Mahkent aka Icicle Jr. Crystal Frost, aka Killer Frost. This past Fourth of July, all four ice-based villains launched coordinated, simultaneous attacks at locations all across the country." started Accel, images of each villain appeared behind him, along with the locations they attacked. The images of Captain Cold and Killer Frost both moved away from the rest to be under the image of a prison.
"Afterwards, Snart and Frost were escorted to Belle Reve Penitentiary in Louisiana, a prison designed exclusively to hold meta-criminals. (Jasmine raises hand) Yes, Snart isn't a meta, but regular prisons couldn't hold him. (Jasmine lowers hand) Walker was delivered to Blackgate in Gotham, while Mahkent was sent to a juvenile facility. (each mentioned image was separated to be placed under the relevant prison) Last month, Walker took part in a riot that left several inmates crippled, so it was decided that he would be transported elsewhere for their safety. At the same time, Mahkent successfully sued to be tried as an adult." continued Batman.
"Why would either of them do that? They had to have known that they would've gotten sent right to Belle Reve," asked Conner, crossing his arms.
"Maybe there's something special there, like some kind of hidden treasure or something that can boost them," guessed Jasmine, remembering her roles in media.
"Unlikely, but not impossible; the grounds where Belle Reve stood were previously a plantation in the late 1800s. Because of financial issues, it was abandoned until the late 1900s, when the federal government assumed ownership and built the facility over the land. That leaves decades of unknown history when anything could've been hidden at the time as you assumed. However, given the building is where the villains are heading and not the grounds themselves, we'll investigate the latter on our end." answered Batman.
"For the inside, that's what we need to find out, and why we're sending you in. (highlights Mr. Freeze and Icicle Jr) Walker's destination was chosen, and Junior was successful, and now both await transport to Belle Reve. We need to find out what they're planning." finished Tyrex.
"Uh, isn't this something better suited to Miss Martian?" asked Jasmine, hand raised.
"You'd be correct physically, but given your previous career, you have a better chance of passing off as an inmate," answered Batman.
"And for the physical part, that's when these things come into play. (takes out pair of purplish-grey masks resembling shocked faces) ID Masks 2.0, courtesy of Plumber HQ. Not only do these give you perfect disguises, but the upgrades made them much more durable so you don't have to worry about them shorting out. Plus, the Morphers will stay hidden under their provided disguises, so you don't need to worry about giving yourself away." explained Accel, passing them.
"And to why you two specifically, with Jasmine borrowing Time Force Yellow's civilian power and your Kryptonian powers, we don't have to try too hard to pass you off as the Terror Twins," added Tyrex, causing images of the Terror Twins' rampage to appear.
"Superman and Martian Manhunter are currently working with law enforcement agencies to divert the Terror Twins to New Orleans. Once they get them to a certain warehouse, we will incapacitate them, allowing you two to slide into their places." finished Batman.
"I got a question. (looks at Zordroids) Shouldn't Josh be running this?" asked Conner. They snorted while giving him dry looks.
"Josh doesn't even know about this mission because if he did, the moment Jasmine gets herself into any kind of trouble, Josh would blow his cover without a second thought if it meant protecting her." retorted Titania. The teens… could definitely see their leader doing that.
"Changing topic, what makes you think any of those four will talk to us? I mean, Junior maybe, with how close he is to our age, but the others won't give the 'runts' the light of day so easily." commented Jasmine.
"Don't worry, we got one of Josh's friend's friend's friends joining you in this mission from out-of-universe with the best chance. You'll meet him at the transport," assured Leonel. The teens' heads swirled at the overuse of the word.
"Jasmine can use her Xybrian Ranger powers to take over as the team telepath," added Accel.
"You can do that?" raised Conner.
"Well… (blushes) Megan's been helping Josh and me refine our multiple kinds of psychic powers. I can manage a link between us and our 'partner' easily enough," answered Jasmine bashfully. Conner nods, impressed.
"Alright, so that leads to my next question: will anyone in the prison aside from the accomplice know who we really are?" asked Conner. Batman and the Zordroids exchanged a glance.
"No one. We cannot be sure that the prison staff isn't compromised." started Batman.
"Several Leaguers and we have a bet going on which members and/or how many are corrupt," added Titana.
"You have Arkham's history to thank for that." jabbed Leonel. Batman felt his eye twitch but immediately calmed down. It's not like the place didn't deserve that.
"Once they're in there… they're on their own."
Present
"Dude! Dude!" Jasmine was pulled from her reminiscing by Junior not so subtly whispering to 'Tommy.'
"Dude, you're sister is so hot! Mind putting in a good word for me?" whispered Junior to 'Tommy'. 'Tuppence' just rolled her eyes, and 'Tommy' was about to tell Junior to **** off, when the guard grabbed Junior by the shoulder and shoved him back into his seat.
"Sit down, boy. We're here." scolded a guard, his nametag reading 'Wilcox'. The transport slowed to a halt. They could hear what sounded like warning sirens, and soon the doors opened.
"You OK?" asked 'Tuppence' silently, subtly gesturing to her ears. 'Tommy' shook his head in assurance. One of the first things Superman taught him was control of his super senses, for which the clone was thankful.
"Get out. Time for your orientation. (prisoners got off bus) Welcome to the Vault." smirked Wilcox. They were now in the prison intake area of Belle Reve, guards flanking each/every corner. On a catwalk above the inmates were two figures: one was a bald, bespectacled man with a dark gray beard in a black pantsuit, while the other was a heavyset African American woman in business attire.
"I am the law of last resort. I am the impenetrable Wall, through which there is no passing. (glares at inmates, unnerving even Freeze) My name is Amanda Waller, and I am not your mother, your maiden aunt, or your friend. I am the Warden here, and while you are here paying your penance to society, you will play by my rules. See those collars you're wearing? (gestures to accessories) They are not a fashion statement. The proprietary collars you are wearing were custom-made to inhibit each prisoner's specific meta abilities. No super strength, no flight, no ice, no laser beams coming from your ***." started Waller. The 'Terrors' knew that if Wally was here, he'd laugh at the last part.
"And here I was thinking she was just into S&M…" whispered Junior to 'Tuppence', but this did not go unnoticed by Waller, who narrowed her eyes while pulling out a remote.
"But wait, there's more. This is the finest meta-prison in the world, and unlike the slumber parties you may be used to, we do not tolerate nonsense. If you step out of line, the collars can and will be used to discipline you. In fact, I think a demonstration is in order." smirked Waller devilishly.
"What's that…?" Before 'Tommy' could finish his question, Waller pressed the button on the remote. The effect was immediate as the four 'humans' cried out in pain, once electricity coursed through them, staggering them. The 'Snowman' on the other hand, roared in defiance before taking a few steps forward. Narrowing her eyes, Waller aimed the remote at his collar before pressing another button. Higher voltage coursed through the 'yeti's body before he eventually fell onto a knee. Once she was content that was enough, she pressed a different button, ceasing the electric shock.
"Guess you aren't a legend for nothing. (inmates recovered) That was a warning, and everyone gets one. If the shock is deployed and the inmate continues to act up, the next shock will be sufficient enough to knock the inmate unconscious. The whole facility will lock down at the slightest hint of trouble. Belle Reve's walls are thick enough to hold Superman. We know, we checked." smirked Waller. 'Tuppence' sent a subtle questioning look to 'Tommy', who only mouthed 'Long story'.
'Note to self, once the mission is over, ask Conner about it.'
"No one's ever escaped Belle Reve, and no one ever will. There's a reason we've nicknamed this place 'The Vault.' (companion clears throat) Oh, this is Professor Hugo Strange. He is your mother, maid, and aunt." introduced Waller.
"Thank you, Amanda, for the introduction… (steps forth) What Warden Waller is trying to tell you is that I am the prison psychiatrist. I believe your time here shouldn't just be a punishment, but rather a chance to better your life. Each and every one of you deserves a chance at rehabilitation. (gazes at 'Snowman') Or in your case, Mr. Snowman, better integrate into human society." smiled Strange sickenly. The 'yeti' snarled. Before he could do anything, Waller steps forth.
"Enough, you 5 get to your cells. (turns to Strange) You can pick its brain tomorrow." ordered Waller. Having minor flashbacks to his time in Cadmus, 'Tommy' prepared to come to the 'Snowman's defense—
"Conner, calm down." assured 'Tuppence'. Taking deep breaths, 'Tommy' lets himself be escorted along with the others, 'Tuppence' being separated from the others.
"How long was the link open?" asked 'Tommy' curiously. Unlike the first time the Martian entered his mind, the Xybrian-empowered human's mental voice felt… soothing.
"Since we got here. Thankfully, Megan had me test the telepathy's max range and unless we're on opposite sides of the building, we should hear each other clearly." answered 'Tuppence'.
"Good to know… wait, shouldn't these collars be blocking our powers?" questioned 'Tommy'.
"Correction; they're blocking the 'Terror Twins' powers, which, if I'm not mistaken, don't include telepathy or super senses." answered 'Tuppence'.
"That's a relief… Speaking of which, I think I have an idea of who our mysterious third partner is." informed 'Tommy'.
"Who?"
"The Abominable Snowman guy. (glances at 'yeti' being at the front) I only know a bit about Cryptozoology, but don't yetis breathe and have hearts like humans and animals?" assumed 'Tommy'.
"You sure the guy isn't a robot?" countered 'Tuppence'.
"No, I would've been able to hear gears or some kind of machine stuff coming from him if that was the case." debunked 'Tommy'.
"True… Give me a moment, Megan only recently started teaching me about finding minds out of sight." said 'Tuppence' before the link went silent. Right when the 'yeti' was taken into a cell (with no roommate, thankfully), his head perked up and subtly turned back.
"So this is how a living telepath differs from some residents of my home." commented a sophisticated voice before the door closed and locked over the 'yeti', yet the creature remained in subtle eye contact with 'Tommy'.
"Uh, hello?" greeted 'Tommy' uncertainly.
"Greetings, Superboy!" smiled the 'yeti' slightly. This eased the clone's worries.
"He's in the clear." assured 'Tuppence'.
"Apologies for my earlier impression, but my cover required a more brutish approach." said the 'yeti', 'Tommy' continuing to be escorted.
"No problem. A lot of guys I know with your bulk don't show much in the brains department." assured 'Tommy'.
"Glad to make a better impression. Oh, where are my manners? You may call me Frostbite, leader of the Far Frozen, and hopefully a valuable ally to the Great One and his friends." introduced the 'yeti'.
"Great One?" echoed the 'Terrors'.
"I shall regale you with tales from my realm later. I believe you children require whatever rest you can obtain before any of these inmates can catch on to our alliance," dismissed Frostbite fatherly.
"No arguments here." yawned 'Tuppence'.
"OK, one of these days, I'm going to either of your universes." growled 'Tommy', feeling like the odd man out because he was the only native in this partnership.
"I call top bunk!" shouted Junior, jumping onto the bed once he and 'Tommy' were in their cell.
"Especially if it's a chance to get away from this guy!"
(Morning, Belle Reve Mess Hall)
'Tommy' watched as panels above what would be the yard powered up, creating an illusion of sunlight as prisoners were escorted into the yard.
"Pretty clever, huh? (sits beside 'Tommy') See, they built The Vault to be impenetrable, meaning no one could fly in or out. But then some human rights groups found out; said all the prisoners were entitled to seeing daylight. So… (gestured up to the panels) compromise." explained Junior.
"You seem to know a lot about this place." noted 'Tommy'. Junior smirked, though the clone thought it seemed a little… sad.
"Been coming here since I was five. Come to a place often enough, you learn a few things… (replaces sadness with cockiness) Stick with me, cellmate, and I'll show you the ropes," advised Junior.
"Uh, thanks. Though do ya mind if I ask why?" requested 'Tommy'.
"Dude, it's simple. You and me? We're the next generation of villainy. One day, it's gonna be us fighting the Justice League or the next generation! I figure we gotta go ahead and start stickin' together!" stated Junior cheerfully. 'Tommy' highly doubted that Tommy Terror, who punched a hole in a gas station because he couldn't buy alcohol there, would be one of Earth's worst villains, but he wasn't going to dissuade the young villain. Still, he had to keep up the act. Remember what Jasmine said; act like Tommy, not Superboy.
"Wait a minute, you're younger than me! You ain't never been in no Belle Reve before! You liable to get me hanged with them ropes." retorted 'Tommy', the two walking past several men at the weight benches.
"C'mon, dude, try to pay attention! Remember how I said I've been coming here since I was a kid? Well, the reason's over there." answered Junior, gesturing to a set of benches. 'Tommy' looked where he indicated, seeing Mammoth guarding a grey-haired man in his fifties while Blockbuster was in an arm-wrestling match with Frostbite, the matching earning several cheers. "See the guy with the grey hair? That's Icicle Senior."
"And if you're Icicle Jr, then that means… that's your pa?" asked 'Tommy', almost slipping in surprise at seeing two old foes. He was suddenly thankful for those practice lines Jasmine gave him.
"Bingo. You're looking at my old man. See, my old man was one of the first supervillains, way back in the 40's. Oh man, the stories he used to tell me. Not every kid can say their dad fought the original Flash!" stated Junior proudly.
"But… he don't look that old." commented 'Tommy', confused. Then again, he's one to talk, considering he's barely half a year old and looks 16.
"The beauty of cryogenics, my redneck friend. (chuckles) It's kept him looking nice and young almost a hundred years later. As a bonus, it was because of him I was born with these powers." explained Junior gleefully. 'Tommy' resisted the urge to go off at the implication of Senior experimenting on his own family.
"So he's what, the man in charge?" asked 'Tommy'. Connor had known Cameron for maybe twelve hours, but one thing was obvious: the young villain had a flare for the dramatic.
"Yup. See, Pop's basically the capo here in Belle Reve. There's not a thing that goes on around here that he doesn't know about. If you wanna smuggle some contraband, if you wanna off a guy in the showers… hell if you just need to smuggle in some smokes, then my dad's the guy you go to." bragged Junior.
"Your pa sounds like a big deal." noted 'Tommy'.
"(deflates) You're telling me… 'big shoes' doesn't even begin to describe it. It sucks when your dad is 'the man', y'know?" sighed Junior. At this, 'Tommy' averted his eyes.
"Believe me, I know…" sympathized 'Tommy'. He has nothing against Superman, but when he checked how people compared him to the Man of Steel, he noticed negative comments about how 'wild', 'out-of-control', and/or feral the clone is. Granted, those comparisons were in the early days, but the point still stands that it's not just his powers he needs to work on if he wants to become the next Man of Steel.
"RRRRRRAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!" Frostbite's roar interrupted 'Tommy's reminiscing, drawing attention to the yeti's arm pushing down Blockbuster's, winning the match. That earned Frostbite many cheers of respect while Blockbuster growls in frustration and stalks off.
"You'll fit in alright." chuckled Senior. Suddenly approaching them is a bespectacled, brunette male inmate in his early 30s.
"Hey, how many ice villains does it take to screw in a light bulb?" asked the inmate.
"No one cares, Nygma," growled Senior. Before Nygma could push his luck, Frostbite got near his face and let out a potentially ear-splitting roar. With ringing in his ears (and… a lower wardrobe malfunction), Nygma ran like a bat out of hell. While many inmates laughed at his retreat, others looked at the yeti in fear.
"Uh, I just know my throat is going to be overtaxed by the end of this endeavor." sighed Frostbite. Swallowing his fear, Junior prepares to approach his father… only for a familiar face to shove him from behind.
"Jasmine, remind me to thank your brother for the ID Masks." noted 'Tommy'.
"Uh… sure, but why?" responded 'Tuppence', confused. She'll get her answer later.
"Hola, Junior! Remember me?" growled Ojo.
"O—ojo, buddy! (gulps) How ya been?" asked Junior nervously.
"Don't think I forgot the **** you pulled in Keystone! I warned you what would happen if you ever crossed me again!" snarled Ojo. As all this was happening, Senior and his entourage (including the newly joined Frostbite) noticed what was happening. Curious, the ghost softly growled before sniffing the air and looking between the Icicles. Senior understood the 'animal's interest.
"So you can tell that's my kid by smell, huh? (folds arms) Doesn't matter. Kids don't learn anything if we fight their battles for them, do they?" asked Senior.
"Not always, but it doesn't hurt to lend a hand now and then," answered Frostbite before growling in agreement to keep his cover. Ojo prepared to slam his fist into Junior's face, only for 'Tommy' to grab his shoulder and yank him back.
"Get off of him!" bellowed 'Tommy', delivering a right hook to Ojo's jaw. While normally a punch such as this would have been enough to knock Professor Ojo out, the collar dampened the clone's super strength. Instead, it just knocked Ojo to the ground, right at Brick's feet. The dark-skinned crime boss looked at the two, cracking his knuckles.
"Boy, that was not wise," warned Brick, his crew beginning to flank the two. Junior had barely gotten on his feet before one of Brick's henchmen grabbed him, dragging him backward. 'Tommy' went to help his new friend, only to be cut off by another inmate while Brick moved behind him. On the catwalk above, Wilcox and the other guards were watching the whole situation. One of them pulled out his collar remote, only for Wilcox to raise his hand.
"Uh uh. New fish has gotta learn the rules," smirked Wilcox. Below, 'Tommy' grunted as Brick grabbed his arms.
"Free shot, Ojo!" called Brick. Ojo rose to his feet. He approached 'Tommy', preparing to punch his stomach.
"Uh-oh," While Conner's durability is still higher than a regular human even after the collar dampened it, it's not weak enough to match Tommy's. If that punch hits, he'll be greeted with a broken hand and suspicion of his cover. His training with Black Canary kicked in, he slammed his foot down on Brick's. The depowered inmate screamed out in pain. This loosened his grip enough to allow 'Tommy' to grab the larger man by the back of his head, tossing him over his shoulder and into Ojo. The cycloptic man managed to dodge, but this allowed 'Tommy' to rush him and deliver a right hook to his jaw. Much like it had in Philadelphia, this proved sufficient to knock out Ojo, sending him to the floor.
"That wasn't wise, blondie…" grunted Brick angrily, cracking his knuckles. 'Tommy' preparing to rush him…
"Enough! (fighters stop in their tracks) Kid's got guts. I can respect that. That's the kind of thing a man wouldn't mind seeing in his own son, (glances at his son, who was released) The beef is squashed. Understood?" demanded Senior, glaring at Brick.
"Fine…" growled Brick, storming off.
"You ladies done enjoying the show? (glances at guards above) Or you gonna come clean this up?" asked Senior, gesturing to Ojo. As the guards came down to collect the unconscious inmate, 'Tuppence', who had been watching from the women's side, let out a sigh of relief.
"Talk about a close one…" breathed 'Tuppence'.
"Your brother sure does know how to make friends, huh?" snorted Frost. 'Tuppence' resisted the urge to do the same, thinking of her actual brother.
"That's one way ta put it…"
(Minutes later)
Once Ojo had been collected and Senior had a private 'one-sided' discussion with Frostbite, Senior nodded towards his son.
"Be right back," said Junior eagerly, walking to his father, being joined by Captain Cold and Mister Freeze. Joining them on the women's side was Killer Frost, who was leaning against the plexiglass separating the two areas of the yard.
"Keep the link up, I'll check on what my… new friend is talking about." suggested 'Tommy', unsure of what to call Junior.
"Still up." assured 'Tuppence'. Nodding, 'Tommy' closed his eyes, focusing his superhearing.
"Gee, thanks for the help, dad…" thanked Junior.
"What have I always told you, son? Reap what you sow, and fight your own battles." scolded Senior. Junior lowered his head in shame. 'Tommy' resisted the urge to turn and glare at the veteran villain.
"Alright, Icicle. We're all here. (gestures to fellow ice villains) Now what?" asked Freeze. Senior only gave off a bone-chilling smile.
"Now we put the final pieces in place to bust every single con out of Belle Reve."
(Cell Block, Hours Later)
The wheels of a cart squeaked as Professor Ivo pushed it down the men's cells. At each cell, he would stop and throw the new jumpsuits through the meal slots of the doors. When he reached 'Tommy' and Cameron's cell, he tossed the jumpsuits through the slot, drawing 'Tommy's attention.
"I'd go ahead and put the new duds on. Sooner, rather than later," suggested Junior cryptically.
"Uh… sure. (turns back and unzips jacket) The break is coming, sooner than later." updated 'Tommy'.
"Updating Frostbite now." noted 'Tuppence', pulling on her new uniform, aware of Frost discretely watching her. A few moments later, a mental sigh is heard.
"Perhaps it is time to call for reinforcements. If the attempt involves negating the collars, then I'm afraid we'd be outnumbered. Give me a moment to leave behind an ice clone and I shall pull you both out with no one knowing." suggested Frostbite, preparing to turn intangible to release the collar.
"Icicle would postpone. We need to learn how they're busting out or they'll just try again." objected 'Tuppence'.
"…True, but the moment it becomes too much, I'm pulling you out." asserted Frostbite, sitting on his bed.
(Laundry Room)
Wilcox and another guard led Freeze and Captain Cold through the laundry room and into a tool area, where a crate was waiting. Snart went to grab a crowbar off the wall, looking back to Wilcox. The guard nodded, opening his shirt pocket to reveal the collar remote in his pocket. The message clear, Snart used the crowbar to open the crate, allowing the three to look inside. Upon seeing what was inside it, Mr. Freeze smirked.
"Exactly what we need."
(Morning, Mess Hall)
"Cat Grant reporting from Chicago where the Manhunter from Mars has defeated the Headmaster," reported Cat on the TV. Freeze, Blockbuster, Mammoth, Cold, Senior, and Frostbite all look at each other.
"That accounts for every leaguer except Zatara," noted Freeze confidently.
"Probably on monitor duty, or whatever. Even if he does show, he can't handle all of us alone." grinned Senior cockily. 'Tommy' and Cameron sat alone at their table, watching them.
"So uh, how come you ain't sittin' with your pa?" asked 'Tommy' curiously.
"(scoffs) Cause my pa is a manipulative jerk, who only wants me around when he needs me. It's how it's always been. He'd go out, knock over a bank, fight Flash or Green Lantern or whatever, and get put in the slammer. He'd only call us if he needed money on his commissary account or something. Bothered me as a kid, but eventually, I learned to stop trying to live or die over his approval. (shakes head) Enough about my ****** old man. Tell me about your sister!" pleaded Junior, causing his cellmate to frown.
"What about her?" frowned 'Tommy'. He's suddenly really glad that Josh wasn't in his place, because the Ranger would strangle Junior slowly and painfully, then make it look like an accident.
"Dude, she's so hot! ('Tommy' groans) I mean you can't see it because you're family, but the whole blonde, killer goth look… man! I look at her, and I think 'that chick gets me.' And in the end, that's all you need. Someone who sees you for the psycho you are, and likes you anyway!" described Junior. 'Tommy' actually looks surprised that Junior said something that he can actually agree with and understand the sentiment behind.
"Yeah, yer like an evil genius." smiled 'Tommy', which Junior mirrored.
"Word." The two fist-bumped. Before their 'bromance' can go on, a commotion draws their attention.
"That's it old man! (slams fist on table, glaring at Senior) I'm done wasting time! Belle Reve needs a new capo!" declared Walker, decking Senior across the face, knocking him to the ground. He raised his tray, preparing to bring it down on Senior's head… when his collar activated, causing him to cry out in pain as electricity cursed through him.
"This ain't Blackgate, Freeze! We don't tolerate drama queens here. Last warning, fake snowman," warned Wilcox, finger staying on the button.
"Hrrrn… (glares at Wilcox) make your blood freeze in your e—AGHHH!" Walker's death threat was cut short when Wilcox pressed the button, sending a second shock that caused Freeze to collapse on the spot.
"**** Gotham villains… (turning to the other guards) Take him to Waller! She'll sort him out good," demanded Wilcox. As the guards collected Freeze, Icicle Senior rose to his feet, wiping a bit of blood from his mouth… and smiling.
(Minutes later, Cell Block)
A few minutes later, Junior and 'Tommy' were heading back to their cell when Senior came up behind them, grabbing his son by the arm. "Ow! What the—"
"For once in your life, shut up and listen. It's going down. Now." stated Senior.
"But I thought—" widened Junior.
"Stop thinking. There's a glitch. Can't reach Frost." frowned Senior. This sparked an idea for the clone.
"Uh, 'scuse me. Mind if ah interject? (draws Icicles' attention) Couldn't help but overhear your… let's call it a 'communication error.'" inserted 'Tommy'.
"That's what happens when you eavesdrop. Something I'm not real fond of." scowled Senior.
"Point is, ah can help! (tucks hands in pockets) See, I got this mind-link with mah sister." explained 'Tommy'.
"You think I'm stupid? I read your trading card, kid. Super strength only, no telepathy." scoffed Senior.
"Yeah, well, it don't exactly pay to advertise yer stats when they're slapping collars around your neck, does it?" explained 'Tommy'.
"No arguments here," added Junior. His father's face softened from 'distrust' to 'curious.'
"See, we're twins. Got this psychic thing in utero. You talk to me, I talk to Sis, Sis talks to Frost. Make sense?" asked 'Tommy'. Senior narrowed his eyes, running down his options… before he deviously smiled.
"Kid, I like the way you think. Pass this message along: it's going down. Now."
(Warden's Office)
Waller and Strange watched as the guards led Freeze in, only for the villain to stop halfway across the office.
"Move!" ordered a guard, shoving the inmate. Instead, what he got was…
"Freeze!" smirked the namesake, He moved his hand to grab the guard's. Waller's jaw drops as ice spreads across the guard, encasing him in ice. The smirking scientist turned back to Waller, revealing a sleeve of technology that froze and shattered his handcuffs.
'I have a smuggler? Not in my house!'
"Now, I think a demonstration is in order." As soon as he said that, Waller had pulled out her own remote, attempting to electrocute him. However, just as the collar activated, the dome encasing Freeze's head opened, allowing him to reach in and freeze his collar, shattering it. "Too little, too late!"
"We'll see about that. (stands) Voice activation, Waller One! Lockdown!" ordered Waller. Soon, alarms sounded throughout the prison, with barriers slamming down at every entrance in the prison. Guards ran for the armory, while turrets deployed outside every doorway. Waller reached into her desk and pulled out a pistol, but just as she pulled the trigger, Freeze encased her arm in ice, suspending the bullet in the ice. "Ngh!"
"Stop! (gets Freeze's attention) What do you want?" asked Strange.
"Master control for the collars," responded the former theme park mogul, stepping forward and pressing a yellow button on the control panel of Waller's desk. Throughout the prison, the red lights of the collars shut off, restoring the abilities of all who wore them.
(Cell Block)
'Tommy' watched as all sorts of meta powers reactivated. The guards were quickly overwhelmed, and 'Tommy' heard the sound of something freezing behind him. He turned to see Senior freeze his collar off with his own freeze gauntlet. Junior's skin turned blue and his arm became encased in a shell of ice.
"Dude, your powers are back! Ditch the collar!" suggested Junior.
"Uh, right." 'Tommy' ripped off his collar, doing his best to ignore the pained scream of the guards.
"How's Frost doing?"
(With 'Tuppence')
A female guard is pushed to the floor, she rolls to her back, looking up at the inmates in fear.
"Please, I have a family," begged the guard, her nametag reading 'Hart'.
"Oh, beg some more. It's much sweeter that way," smirked Frost sadistically, creating an ice mace around her hand, ready to beat the woman with it… only for an unpleasant sensation to come from behind. "HNK!"
"Huh?" several inmates paused in their rioting, seeing Killer Frost fall to her face with her uniform scrunched around her bottom. It didn't take long to put two and two together; someone gave the cryokinetic a wedgie. Frightened/relieved, Hart retreats. Getting up, Killer Frost turned red in anger before turning around.
"All right, which one of you pansies had the bright idea to pull that?!" scowled Frost, ice swirling around her fists. A tense silence filled the air… until one of them flipped her the bird. "YOU?!"
'Uh-oh.' The next thing the green-eyed, red-haired giantess called Giganta knew, she was encased in a glacier thick enough to hold her.
(A/N: Design is from Wonder Woman: Bloodlines film)
"Anyone else wanna try anything?!" snarled Frost, aiming her powered hands at the hands. At seeing shaking heads and waves, she huffed and depowered before stalking off. Unnoticed by anyone, 'Tuppence' wiped beads of sweat off her forehead.
'Thank Zordon for Rose Ortiz's invisibility and Karone's telekinesis."
(With the Guys)
Waller grunted as she and Strange were shoved into a cell with Wilcox and the other guards, Icicle Senior slamming the door shut behind them.
"And just like that, the prisoners control the prison." taunted Senior.
"Controlling the prison isn't the same as escaping. There's still a few dozen feet of steel and concrete between you and freedom." scowled Waller.
"Well, then we'd better get to work, shouldn't we?" responded Senior. He walked away from the cell towards the center of the wing, past Junior and 'Tommy', not even glancing at the former while approaching a wall with Cold, and Freeze. They pulled up their sleeves to reveal their gauntlets, pointing them at the wall. They all fired their weapons, three beams of ice colliding with the wall and spreading a wave of cold throughout the whole prison. Once it was encased in ice, they ceased their firing, allowing Mammoth, Frostbite, and Blockbuster to step forward and deliver punches that shook the entire area. 'Tommy' frowned as the ice shattered away, taking a portion of the wall with it.
"At this rate, we should have our way out in about ten, twenty minutes," smirked Cold. As soon as he heard that, the clone frowned.
"Jasmine, you there?" asked 'Tommy' worriedly.
"Yeah, following Frost and keeping my cover." answered 'Tuppence'. 'Tommy' sighed in relief. Mistaking it as one of boredom, Junior elbowed him.
"Dude, this is history in the making! We're about to be the first cons to ever bust out of the Vault!" cheered Junior.
"Hey, Terror! How are the chicks? Everything copacetic over there?" called Senior, not looking back.
"Yeah. All according to plan." nodded 'Tommy'
"Then stop gawking, and get to work!" scowled Senior, unsatisfied.
"We're on it, Dad! (led 'Tommy' away towards the laundry room) Alright, here's the plan: this is the only place in the prison where the men's wing and the women's wing intersect. We work it from our end…"
(Girls)
Frost freezes her side of the wall before Devastation, a tall and intimidating dreadlocked brunette with vine tattoos down her left arm, beats at the wall. 'Tuppence' soon joins the latter.
"…while Frost and her ladies work it from theirs."
(Guys)
"Eventually, we'll meet up here, and all walk out together. Pretty brilliant, right?" grinned Junior.
"Uh, right. Sounds simple enough." agreed 'Tommy'. Junior fired freeze beams that encased the wall. Once his part was done, he stepped back, allowing 'Tommy' to get to work and pummel away at the wall.
"Conner, Frostbite, I got a plan. You two listening?" chimed 'Tuppence'.
"I hope it doesn't take too much time. According to Mr. Snart, we have less than half an hour before the breakout is complete," informed Frostbite, occasionally using his ice breath when he hits concrete.
"At best, it'd slow them down. Listen, earlier, before Frost can kill a guard, I tricked her into thinking Giganta wedgied her and got the giant lady frozen." relayed 'Tuppence'.
"Turning them against each other and then reactivating the collars afterward… That's a brilliant idea," complimented Frostbite.
"The question is how." hummed 'Tommy'. Glancing between Junior and Mr. Freeze in the distance, an idea sparked in the Kryptonian's head. "Frostbite, keep doing what you're doing until I signal you. I got a plan."
"Our fate is in your hands, Boy of Steel." nodded the ghost discretely. Clearing his throat, 'Tommy' pretended to hold his head in pain, catching Junior's attention.
"You alright, Tommy?" asked the juvenile villain.
"No… I just got a message from ma sister. She says that the collars are turnin' back on over there!" lied 'Tommy'.
"Wait, seriously?! But Freeze was supposed to turn off the collars!" widened Junior.
"It must be some sorta backup!" added 'Tommy', improvising.
"Oh ****… That means they can turn back on over here any minute! We gotta tell my dad!" panicked Junior, preparing to rush off.
"Or, and hear me out… this is your chance to show some initiative! I mean, I don't wanna overstep, considerin' I've only known you for about a day, but I can tell he don't really respect you. If you can keep the collars from comin' back on, then that'll show yer pa you're worthy of respect!" suggested 'Tommy'. For a second, the clone was worried it wasn't going to work… before his cellmate grinned.
"I like the way you think, bro!"
(Warden's Office)
Ojo, Hook, Kadabra, and an inmate wearing a red bandana as a blindfold stood guard in front of the office. Junior and 'Tommy' approached them.
"Freeze said no one goes in." stated the blindfolded inmate.
"Tiger Shark, do you want your collar to turn back on?" questioned Junior.
"We don't take orders from children." scoffed Ojo, crossing his arms.
"We don' have time fer this." griped 'Tommy', charging in and hitting Ojo straight with an uppercut that sent the man straight into the wall behind him, denting it and knocking him out. Hook goes for a cross that would've hit 'Tommy' in the head had he not ducked. Junior's freeze blast goes over his head too, knocking Hook into the wall and Shark, encasing both in ice. Kadabra prepared to throw a punch, only for Junior to freeze him first.
"Ugh, this is why you don't leave the important stuff to C-listers… (turns to cellmate) I'll keep watch. You do what you gotta do!" ordered Junior.
"Right!" And with that, 'Tommy' disappeared into the office. He wasn't even gone three minutes, as he soon returned. "Alright, let's get going!"
Without another word, the two headed back to the laundry area… just as the frozen Ojo's collar turned back on.
(Ice villains)
Freeze, Senior, and Cold all have their back turned to the majority of the other inmates, as they continue to lay ice on the outside wall. Brick and his lackeys are the first to get their collars turned back on and fall to their knees with the shock. A majority of prisoners follow quickly behind them. It's only when they stop using the ice gauntlets that they can hear practically everyone screaming. Cold also falls to his knees while the collar re-engages.
"No. No no no no no… (spinning back to Freeze) The hell is going on?! I thought you shut off the collars!" demanded Senior.
"I did! Someone must have gone back and turned them on!" theorized Freeze.
"This can't be happening. (paces) This is the greatest jailbreak in history!" growled Senior.
"It was. Now it is history," stated Freeze coldly, taking note of a few inmates who had already removed their collars and were still standing. "Have the Snowman take my and Snart's place if it needs to. You stay here with them. I'll figure out what's going on."
(Laundry Room)
'Tommy' is still punching the wall at the split between the wings with Junior. Unknown to the teens, Mammoth and Blockbuster stalk towards them from behind. 'Tommy' shouts one last time as he delivers an even harder punch than normal before turning to the behemoths. Freeze steps up behind them.
"I went back to the warden's office. (gets teens' attention) Tiger Shark, Hook, and Abra were taken out by ice before their collars were reactivated. Your father and Cold were with me the whole time, so…" glared Walker. There's no need to finish the sentence as the tone and his glare show exactly what he wants to say.
"What are you talking about? (scoffs) We stopped the collars from turning back on. (snarls) Oh, and you're welcome." retorted Junior sarcastically. Freeze glares at the teen's snark but doesn't say anything.
"Donchu ge' it? (turns to Junior) You heard Freeze in the mess. This 's 'is power play. He's takin' what belongs ta yer pa." 'rationalized' 'Tommy'. At his words, anger rose within the ice villains, giving each other glares.
"TRAITOR!" Once 'Tommy' leaped out of the way, he watched the two fire freeze rays at each other; one artificial, the other natural. Ice collides in between the two of them, becoming a shattering crystalizing nebula of power. This drew the attention of the behemoths, dazzled by the display. In their trance, they could do nothing when several stray beams came out of the collision and froze them over several times. 'Tommy' had to practically dance to prevent himself from getting frozen.
'If I ever unlock heat vision, I hope I don't enter some kinda heat-off.' commented 'Tommy'. The tie is slowly but surely broken by Freeze's artificial ice overpowering Junior's natural ice.
"Amateur. You can't possibly hope to beat me at my own game." taunted Walker. Junior falls onto a knee, breathing deeply with beads of sweat coming down his forehead, slowly freezing. Unlike his opponent, his ice takes effort to make, which is proving to become his downfall.
"Tommy… (looks at fellow teen) If I don't make it out of this… Tell your sister how I went out like a man…" chuckled Junior deliriously. It's obvious from his tone that he isn't preparing to survive this. Determination filled the clone's body, not wanting his new friend to go out.
"Ya can tell her yourself." snarled 'Tommy', jumping high. This caught Freeze's attention, the former mogul looking up in time for 'Tommy' to deliver a downward punch that shattered his dome. Panicking, he stopped his freeze ray, backing up into a wall while covering his face. Junior stopped firing, his fists on the ground.
"No. No. My suit is breached. Can't survive unless—" gasped Freeze, firing a ray of his namesake on himself, coating his head and upper body in ice… along with the wall behind him, taking himself down. Dusting his hands off, 'Tommy' then approaches Junior, the ice teen lying against a block of ice.
"Ya alright, pal?" asked 'Tommy'.
"Yeah… just had to… (stands) catch my breath…" exhaled 'Junior'. Recovered, he led 'Tommy' back to the wall, the two working in tandem to break it. It wasn't long until it was broken down, thankfully not taking part of the building with it. What greeted the boys was the sight of at least a dozen bloodied/iced, but incapacitated female supervillains, including Killer Frost and Devastation. From the looks of things, it seemed the latter two went down fighting each other after beating the rest into unconsciousness. Fortunately for the two, 'Tuppence' is completely conscious, having been breaking the wall on her end.
"J—Sis." smiled 'Tommy', rushing over and hugging the girl. 'Tuppence' responded in kind. Junior would've smiled at the scene, but the bodies that littered the wing befuddled him.
"How the hell are you not hurt or iced?" asked Junior, curious. 'Tommy' gained a worried look, knowing that their cover might be blown. It soon shifted to confusion when something heavy was heard falling behind him. Looking back, he sees Junior on the ground with Giganta's body over him, the teen now conscious.
"Don't worry, the first thing some of the inmates did was break the security cameras for 'penance' against any pervs watching through them." assured 'Tuppence'. This relieved 'Tommy', but brought up another concern.
"But what about Frostbite?" asked the clone.
"No worries. (appears in thin air) Once Icicle and the rest of the prisoners laid their eyes off me, I turned invisible and made an act of becoming abducted. Soon after, I subdued the prisoners under the guise of a 'dead guard's spirit', with a few even returning to their cells in hopes of placating my 'wrath'. Sadly, Icicle is skeptical of the supernatural, so he'll likely assume his defeat was by Martian Manhunter or Batman." explained Frostbite, ripping off the jumpsuit to show his regular attire.
"So as far as everyone knows, the place is haunted?" asked 'Tommy'. Frostbite snorts in amusement.
"You tell me."
(Mount Justice)
"You three did good work in there. (looks at teens) Not only did you two show some quick thinking and were able to stop the breakout before too many people got hurt, but you also did so without blowing your cover in great effort. Good job." congratulated Batman to the 'inmates', now all out of their disguises and ID Masks.
"Thanks, Bats. (shrugs) I figured we might need an encore later, so why not keep the roles in handy." remarked Jasmine. Conner only folded his arms and nodded. Batman then turns to Frostbite.
"The League appreciates your assistance on this mission. If your people are in trouble, know that we will help in any way we can." thanked Batman, extending a hand.
"Much appreciated. (shakes hand gently) When I return to my realm, I'll be sure to search if you or any of your allies have counterparts there." smiled Frostbite. A short while later, after some last-minute debriefing, Batman had to leave and escort Frostbite back to his universe, leaving the two teens alone.
"Well, there's some school work I gotta catch up on." sighed Jasmine, walking to her room. Remembering Junior's words about finding someone, Conner cleared his throat, catching her attention.
"About that… How about we catch up on our schoolwork together?" offered Conner.
"Like a study date?" smirked Jasmine teasingly. Conner blushed but held his ground.
"Exactly like a study date." confirmed the clone. Jasmine playfully hummed, tapping her chin thoughtfully… before grinning and pecking Conner on the cheek.
"A date it is then." winked Jasmine before entering her room, adding a sway to her hips. Cheeks reddening, Conner cupped where he got the kiss.
'Whoa…'
(Belle Reve, Warden's Office)
Amanda Waller's plaque is thrown into the garbage. A new one is placed on the desk reading: "Hugo Strange". The man himself releases his hand from the plaque and moves behind the desk.
"Belle Reve will be fully operational by tomorrow. All prisoners are accounted for, except the Riddler who somehow did manage to escape during the confusion. (sighs in false disappointment) Still, you must be disappointed," explained Strange. Icicle Senior stands before him, unguarded, uncuffed, but the collar in place and turned off, along with his right arm broken in a cast, parts of his face gauzed, and having a black eye.
"Me? After the risk you took smuggling our tech inside you had nearly as much invested in the break as we did. It's a shame we got beat, but the main objectives were all reached." smirked Senior, holding his hand out to Strange. The man reaches across the table and shakes his hand, smirking.
"The Light should be quite pleased."
Wally: Man, Frostbite sure did a number on him.
Omarnosian10: Yeah. And before anyone asks why I didn't do the kiss scene, I have to make something clear due to the implications it gave off to Junior. I DO NOT SUPPORT INCEST IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, INCLUDING ROLEPLAY AND/OR ADOPTION!
Dick: Glad to know, but did you have to be that loud?
Omarnosian10: My voice had to be heard. Anyway, shifting from that uncomfortable topic, I had Frostbite included to be the 'escape plan' in place of Aqualad.
Kaldur: What was I doing at the time of this chapter?
Omarnosian10: It'll be referred to next chapter, along with the others' activities. SMOKEBOMB!
