"hey you wanna play soccer with me? I've been watching it on TV lately" Butch asked as he walked in on Boomer, Fiona, Liam and Jacob talking in their bedroom.
"no sorry. we're busy. why don't you go ask one of the others?" Boomer offered. he wore a light blue shirt and pastel pink sweatpants while his hair was down.
"I tried that. Brick is busy making bread with mom and no one else wants to play because I've got superpowers" Butch groaned. he wore a green tank-top and blue short overalls while his hair was pulled out of his face by a sparkly pink hair clip.
"why not try Buttercup? isn't she a sports nerd too?" Liam suggested. he was wearing a beige t-shirt with a bisexual pride flag embroidered on the chest, blue denim shorts with a rainbow flag embroidered on the hip and white socks while his hair was down against his shoulders.
"no way!" Butch objected.
"shes pretty much your only option if you want to play soccer with someone possessing equal power to you" Boomer shrugged.
"and if you start bleeding you can just use your healing powers!" Liam added.
"fine! I'll go talk to the stupid powerpuff" Butch grumbled as he stomped out the room.
"wait Butch has healing powers?" he heard Jacob ask before Butch sped off.
Buttercup landed on the edge of a building as she stretched, an unconscious monster twenty times her size below. she wore a green t-shirt with white sleeves, beige hunters shorts, a black belt, green and black sneakers and blood stained green cloth around her wrists while her hair was pushed back by a bright green headband. her nose and a fresh scar on the back of her thigh visible through a rip in her shorts were bleeding a crisp yellow sprinkled red.
"hey whats with the yellow?" Butch asked behind her, to which she shot up into the air.
"holy bejezus! you almost scared the poison out of me! what do you want anyways?" Buttercup asked as she floated down.
"I really want to try playing soccer but no normal person wants to play with me because of my superpowers, Bricks making bread with mom and Boomers hanging out with his little club. Boomer and Liam suggested asking you so...do you, Butterbutt Utonium, want to play soccer with me?" Butch asked.
"one, don't call me Butterbutt. two, I've always wanted to play soccer but Bloss and Bubs don't like it so I'd love to play soccer with you" Buttercup tapped him on the forehead, to which he scowled before looking at the blood dripping into her fanged mouth with every word.
without thinking, Butch pressed his hand against the yellow sprinkled red liquid before focusing his power.
"what are you-" Buttercup stopped when she felt her blood soak into her skin and heal her nose.
once Butch removed his hand from her face they stood there for a few moments in silence.
"can you heal my thigh?" she finally asked, bringing her knee up for emphasis.
"did your siblings give you a dumb nickname too or was it just me?" Butch asked as he kicked a soccer ball to Buttercup.
"yeah they did, sadly. Butt" she replied, kicking the ball back to him.
Butch let the ball fly past him as he failed at holding back his laughter.
"we're nickname buddies" he wheezed.
"I'm guessing your brothers call you But too?" Buttercup asked.
"yeah. if you think our nickname is bad, wait until you hear Bricks" Butch grinned as he retrieved the ball from a tree branch.
"what is it?" she questioned with a mischievous smile.
"Bri" Butch responded as he sped back over.
silence.
"brie is a type of cheese" he clarified, to which she burst into laughter that filled the empty field they were playing in.
"you referred to Blossom as Bloss earlier right? that rhymes with Floss" he remarked, earning squeaky giggles from the girl now on her knees clutching her abdomen.
he began laughing at her giggles as he tried to help her up, to which she refused with a slap to the shins.
"ouch Butterfly. didn't realize you hit so hard when you were a giggling mess" he commented before snapping his dislocated shin into place with a hiss.
"you okay?" she asked between laughs, her face her red-haired sisters color from her struggle to breath between her bursts of laughter.
"I'm fine. I've got healing powers. I just need to keep it in the right place for a while while my powers do their thing" Butch replied as he sat down, his injured leg out in front of him.
Buttercup laughed harder, if that was even possible.
"why are you laughing so much Butterfly? I've never heard you sounding like a squeaky toy" Butch questioned.
she inhaled a breeze of air with her super breath.
"I laugh easier when I'm already laughing that's just an annoying quirk I have okay?" she rambled before going back to giggling like a rubber chicken.
"I'm surprised about two things" he spoke, leaning forward.
she looked up at him with her cheeks glistening pink.
"the first is why you're staying and not leaving to recover from your little laughing fest" he continued, picking up the ball next to him.
"pretty sure I still have a few more minutes until you heal" she replied.
"you got about five. second, you haven't noticed I'm calling you Butterfly" he smirked as she gulped hard to stop her laughs and looked at him while her cheeks faded to their original color.
"is that your way of calling me a damsel in distress or something?" Buttercup asked.
"butterflies feed on dead corpses and their skeletons are on the outside" Butch replied with a smirk, silencing any arguments she had against the nickname.
their short silence was interrupted by the boom of a monster in the direction of the city.
"that's my queue to go" Buttercup declared as she stood up.
"wait. I'm coming to. once my leg is healed of course. I haven't fought anything actually challenging in so long. the closest thing was a bear two years ago but you can tell how that went" Butch told her as he floated up a foot off the ground.
"fine but if you attack us I will bite you" she replied.
"is that supposed to be a threat?" he asked, his smirk appearing once more.
"yes it is. you know why? because I'm venomous" she grinned, flashing her fangs before zooming off.
