Fun fact, my favorite Peanuts character is Linus. You'll get to know the reasons later in this chapter.
But of course, even Linus got angry towards Charlie Brown in an episode of the mid-2010s Peanuts show. The episode where Charlie never got to say hello or farewell to the Little Red-Haired Girl, Heather, as she moved away. That's the reason why I chose to make Linus enraged and irritated just like the rest of the Peanuts gang.
After Linus, Snoopy's my favorite.
Anyway, here is another chapter. We will finally see Lucy, the one who usually tends to make Charlie Brown feel worse.
Happy reading.
Chapter 7: You're a Bigger Blockhead
Saturday. No school for the kids today.
While most of them are trying to get to the bottom of the situation with Charlie Brown, a certain girl with a crabby personality is waiting for someone to pass by her booth.
"No customers today? There's no school! This place should've been packed by now!" Lucy declares as if many people come by for her advice. "Not even that blockhead is here to see me! What's keeping him?"
"Don't tell me you're referring to Charlie Brown!"
The black-haired girl turns to see the Little Red-Haired Girl and her best blonde friend.
"Heather? What do you and Janice want? Can't you see I'm waiting for customers? That is, if you two need some help from yours truly." Lucy shakes her can that keeps her loot in front of the girls.
Heather pushes Lucy's hand out of the way. "First of all, we don't want your advice. Second of all, you don't know what's going on with Charlie Brown?"
"That blockhead? No matter what I say, he's always-"
"Lucy," Janice interrupts, "Charlie Brown has been ignoring us, along with everyone else. He hasn't ignored you?"
"What?" Lucy raises an eyebrow. "Are you making that up?"
"You really don't believe us? In fact, you haven't noticed?" Heather just needs to ask.
"Oh please. I know Charlie Brown." Lucy declares. "He's always feeling sorry for himself about something. Then he would want to find someone to talk with."
"Not this time. He's really ignoring us." Heather tells her.
"It's true." Janice backs up her redhead friend. "Charlie ignored us. We went to his house a few days ago and Sally didn't know about it either."
"And he still doesn't want to see us." Heather says. "The day after that, Janice and I said hi to him and he continued walking!"
"He didn't even face us." Janice adds.
"No way, you must be making this up!" Lucy says to them.
"They're telling the truth."
The three girls turn to see Peppermint Patty and Marcie.
"Lucy, something is very wrong with Chuck. You really haven't noticed?"
"Indeed. Charles ran away from us yesterday. Right, sir?"
"Stop calling me 'sir'!" Peppermint Patty yells at Marcie. "But he did. Chuck ran away when we saw him at the store."
"Oh come on, this is Charlie Brown we're talking about here!" Lucy states. "You expect me to believe all that?"
"Wait." Janice just got a thought. "Lucy, hasn't Linus told you about the situation of Charlie Brown?"
"Hey, yeah." Heather also realizes. "Your brother must've told you about it already!"
"Oh, he must have. But I was too busy thinking about my future with my dear love, Schroeder." Lucy says with dreamy eyes.
"News flash!" Peppermint Patty wakes her up from her daydream. "Chuck's also ignoring Linus and Schroeder."
"And Franklin and Pigpen." Marcie adds.
"What?!" Lucy couldn't believe it. "The nerve of that blockhead! Ignoring Schroeder?! It's an outrage."
"I thought you would've been more mad about Chuck ignoring your own brother." Peppermint Patty tells her.
"He's such a blockhead!" Lucy is still more focused on Schroeder.
"Hold it right there! No way is Charlie Brown a blockhead." Heather declares. "Whatever's going on, I know it's not his fault. Still, I don't like what he's doing but I'm not going to call him names like you!"
"Me neither!" Janice stands with Heather. "I do wish Charlie would talk to one of us but I'm not gonna be mean to him!"
"Marcie and I are with you!" Peppermint Patty states. "And I know the boys are with us on that, too."
"Especially Linus." Janice comments.
"What do you know about my brother?" Lucy asks Janice.
The blonde looks annoyed. "Apparently, I know him better than you. In case you haven't realized, Linus is Charlie's best friend."
"My own brother, right?" Lucy questions.
"Yes! YOUR BROTHER!" Janice yells. "The one who is always by Charlie Brown's side, especially when he's feeling down. The one who persuaded Charlie Brown to see his penpal before she left for summer camp. The one who helped Charlie Brown prepare a Thanksgiving dinner. The one who went with Charlie Brown to get a Christmas tree. And of course, the one who accompanied Charlie Brown to adopt a puppy named Snoopy!"
"Wow, my own brother did all that with Charlie Brown?"
"Yes, Linus told me all of that." Janice smiles. "Likewise, Charlie Brown accompanied Linus to visit me when I was at the hospital. And Charlie Brown even challenged a bully from camp to win back Rerun's marbles. Linus's younger brother, who is also your younger brother."
"Lucy," Marcie begins, "you're supposed to know that since you're his sister. How is it that Janice knows him better than you?"
"Well, I didn't realize he hung out with that blockhead frequently."
"And you say that again!" Heather says. "Lucy, when are you going to stop this behavior towards Charlie? What has he ever done to you?"
"He's just a blockhead. He doesn't do anything that makes an impact." Lucy responds. "Sure, he flew a kite but that's it!"
"Charles will do something that'll last an impact!" Marcie stands up to the crabby girl. "I'm not sure why he's ignoring us but we're still going to be there and support him. You can stay out of it if you want. You always have been thinking about yourself for being the perfect person in the world. Well, you know what?" Marcie takes off her glasses and comes closer to Lucy. "You're a bigger blockhead."
Lucy was in shock. Her? A blockhead? A bigger blockhead than Charlie Brown?
Peppermint Patty also was taken aback. She has never seen Marcie tell anyone off. Heather and Janice never expected such a reaction from the glasses-wearing girl, either.
Marcie puts her glasses back on. "You need to grow up and start thinking about others, especially to the ones you give a hard time to." She takes her leave.
"Ummm…" Peppermint Patty is at a loss of words. "I'm just gotta go with her." She says, following her best friend.
The remaining three just stand there, still in shock.
"Go away."
Lucy tells the other two.
"But-"
"I said go away!" The black-haired girl cuts the redhead off.
Heather and Janice look at each other and leave Lucy alone.
Blockhead…
Blockhead…
Blockhead…
The word alone echoes in Lucy's mind. She has never been referred to something like that before.
"Me? A blockhead?"
To be continued…
Wow, I didn't expect myself to write a heated moment between Lucy and Marcie. But hey, ideas come out of nowhere and I had fun writing this one.
And yes, Janice's explanation about Linus are the reasons he is my favorite of the Peanuts gang. He always stands by Charlie Brown besides Snoopy. And her reasons are references from the Peanuts Movie (2015), A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Snoopy's Reunion. And Janice's reasons for Charlie Brown are references from Why, Charlie Brown, Why?, and He's a Bully, Charlie Brown.
Now Lucy is experiencing a smaller event than what Good Ol' Charlie Brown experienced. But still, words can hurt. No matter how big or small they are. We'll see more of Lucy later on.
Next chapter will have an event at Charlie Brown's school. What is it? Tune in to find out.
Thank you for reading today.
