While Izuku was meeting his classmates, Toshinori was sitting by himself in the teacher's loung. He couldn't believe what he saw mere hours ago. Izuku's tests were... outstanding to say the least. For the speed tests, he couldn't even follow his movements. For strength tests, he was among the physically strongest in his class, and that was without his quirk. And the ball throw. He incorporated the abilities of Yaoyorozu, Bakugo and Izumi in that one. Creating a bat, telekinetically keeping the ball steady for him to hit, and blasting it off. Twice!
Strength aside, Izuku was a completely different person. Throughout the test, he had this aura of wanting to isolate himself. That wasn't very different from before, but now it feels like he'll hurt anyone who gets in his personal bubble. Toshinori knows he's had his good moments with some of the students, but most that was before he reduced a neighborhood to a scorched graveyard. And he's exponentially stronger than his classmates, and the teachers. What if he loses control? A very plausible concern, one that made All Might himself tremble and gulp with fear.
All Might's attention was grabbed by the sound of the door sliding open. "I wasn't aware you were still here." Nezu stated as he entered the room. "Something on your mind, All Might?"
The blonde man gulped. "I should be at Class 1-A's heroics lesson tomorrow, sir." he said. Nezu's smile disappeared. "May I ask why you feel that way?"
Toshinori bit his lip and debated how to express it. "I... want to show my son I'll be there when he needs me." Nezu sighed. He would've believed that if he didn't see All Might's fearful eyes. He's afraid that Izuku will lose control and injure or kill his rapidly weakening daughter, or Bakugo and the other students.
"I thought we discussed this. Ms Tsutsumi will be with the students on their first heroics class. Your turn will come soon after. Izuku knows you're a teacher here. Shouldn't he have one decent day of classes before he faces you?"
Nezu was being nice about it, but All Might didn't like the idea of waiting. Nezu sighed. "Yagi, you retired as a hero so you could dedicate yourself to teaching and give the students, two of whom are your children, your undivided attention."
"And so I can atone!" Yagi quickly followed up. "I'm a main factor as to why Izuku became the Green Devil. Countless lives were lost as a result of my choosing to neglect him. That's why I am here, as a teacher. To repay my debt to society, and to make amends to Izuku!"
A noble sentiment, Nezu couldn't deny. All Might was making an honest effort to right the wrongs of the past, but he missed a few details. As the principal walked out of the room, he had one more thing to ask. "You didn't finish reading his notebook, did you?" All Might took too long to answer that, and Nezu left him in shame.
The Next Morning
Heights Alliance
Tsuyu walked out of her room in her school uniform. As she walked, she had a persistent thought on her mind since last night. 'Izuku is Zu.' But that revelation brought about even more questions for the frog girl. Zu stated he has a Thermal Vision quirk which is how he found her siblings when they got lost. A sensory type like that should have placed him closer to Jiro in the Aizawa's ranking. Not enough to put everyone else in class to shame! Which left her to wonder, what is Izuku's true quirk?
"*Yawn* Mornin, Tsu." Tsuyu's attention was grabbed by a voice from behind her. The lively, pink-skinned girl approached her. "Good morning, Ashido. It doesn't look like you had a great night's sleep." Asui stated with a finger on her chin. The pinkette nodded while trying to wipe away the tiredness from her eyes.
"Had a nightmare. It's not a new one, but it's been a while since I've had this one."
"Ribbit, what was it?" Asui asked.
"Well, it's based on something that actually happened to me. I was in the area where Endeavor and the Green Devil first fought, Kirishima and Toru were there in real life, but in my dream it was just me alone in a building while the hotheads were trying to kill each other. The building collapsed and I was trapped under rubble. The last thing I remember was someone finding me, but its hazy."
Tsuyu croaked in fascination. "I remember hearing about that on the news. The figure who found you was probably the Green Devil, like in real life." Mina scratched her head. "Nah, he wasn't on fire. That's a pretty hard detail to miss. I dunno, dreams are weird. Thanks for listening to me, though."
Tsu nodded. The two of them made it to the elevator. "Anyway, how's Zuku? You and Kirishima talked to him, and he let you in. Is he accepting visitors?"
Tsuyu would've made an inquisitive face if her features would allow it. "I don't think he's keen on it. Kirishima and I were one misstep away from him throwing us out. But he's not completely closed off, just try not to push his buttons." Mina nodded.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the dorms, a couple of guys were asking Kirishima for details on their "new friend", as Aizawa sarcastically put it.
"Izuku's not a bad guy, but he's carrying a lot of baggage. I bet he'll open up a bit more during breakfast. I make a killer omelet!"
...
The students had questions. Aizawa said that from today, they would be cooking for themselves, the only exception being lunch at the cafeteria prepared by Lunch Rush the Gourmet Hero. Now, most of them come down to the dining table and find a whole breakfast buffet freshly cooked for them.
"Whoo! Free breakfast!" Kaminari cheered. "It smells delicious!" Uraraka said while salivating. "Was Mr Aizawa deceiving us again? What would be the purpose of giving us an unforseen meal? Is it another test?" Iida wondered, before being shoved out of the way by Bakugo.
"Shut it, I'm hungry!" he shouted while grabbing a plate and filling it. 'And he's back...' Jiro mentally groaned. Shoto wasn't far behind, walking towards the soba.
...
"Mmm! It's even better than it smells!" Uraraka squealed in delight. Everyone else who was feasting agreed. The rice was soft and fluffy, the miso soup was a perfect blend of salty and sweet, the tamagoyaki were rolled by expert hands, the vegetables were cut and cooked to a superb degree, the grilled fish was a delight and the soba was exceptional in Shoto's personal opinion. Momo commented that the food was on par with her home cooks, which spoke volumes about how skilled their chef was.
However, there were two members missing from the delightful meal. "Someone needs to get Yagi, she's totally missing out!" Toru said. "She's busy calling her parents. Don't bother her, extras." Bakugo said, being the only one not in a good mood.
Katsuki distanced himself from the others, opting to stand and eat his food in front of the window. In the reflection, his eyes kept traveling to his forearms. They were still sore, and the sight of the bruises made him sick. Knowing that Deku of all people left lasting damage on him! 'We've got our first heroics class today! I'm gonna murder that bastard!'
Now with the other missing classmate... "I'll get him!" Mina announced with freshly plated culinary art. "Food like this is sure to put a smile on his scarred face! It sure made my morning!" With a glowing smile on her face, she went to the elevator.
"Ashido, wait!" Iida stopped her. "You'd be venturing into the boy's section of the dormitory! Asui went last night to accompany Kirishima, so I implore you to make the same sound decision and-"
Ding! Vrrrm...*
The elevator left with its pink passenger. Kirishima patted the back of the now disappointed Iida. "You tried, man, you tried."
Meanwhile, Mina bounced through the hallway of the third floor, looking for a plaque that read 'Izuku'. When she found it, she knocked on the door. "Hey Zuku, someone made a killer breakfast! You gotta try it! I brought you some!" she received no answer and tried knocking and yelling again. "If you don't get out here, I'll scarf it all down and give you an empty plate! I know I already ate, but it's just that good!" Still no response.
"Don't say anything if I can come in your room." Not a peep was heard, and a grin appeared on Mina's face. She swung the door open. "Breakfast in bed! I'm spoiling... you?" the room was empty to Ashido's confusion. The bed was made, nothing was out of place or disorganized, there wasn't a sound from the bathroom, so he wasn't showering. 'Did he leave already!? Someone's an early bird! I hope he ate.'
As Ashido left the boy's room and went back to the elevator, she realized something. Izuku was nowhere to be found, she deduced he's an early riser, and there was a buffet of some of the most amazing breakfast she's ever had. Her dark eyes widened in realization of who cooked this heavenly food. "Zuku you angel!"
Meanwhile
"You're a sweetheart, you know that?" Midnight teased Izuku. The latter had gotten to school with plenty of time to spare, and on his way to homeroom, he ran into Midnight. She asked how things were going, and he gave her a new notebook of his to keep tabs on himself, not unlike the one he had when he was a vigilante. The first page was the events of last night to the surprise breakfast this morning.
"Was this your way of apologizing for getting all scary on them? I know you like it when people enjoy your cooking! I hope Hado doesn't get jealous that you're cooking for others now." Izuku rolled his eyes and walked away at that.
Midnight called out to him before he got too far away. "I think you're going to like hero class! Lady Nagant is going to be looking after you!" Izuku stopped for a second, but then continued on his trek. He had to admit, he was curious to see how Kaina handled the "little shits".
Izuku slid the door to his classroom open and took a seat. In the fourth row furthest from the door was where another desk was placed. 21 may be an awkward number for a class, but he couldn't care less. In the meantime, Izuku took out his notebook and jotted down in it. At the end of the day, he would give it to the school counselor, Hound Dog, and collect it the next morning.
In the several minutes of privacy Izuku had to himself, he came to a decision about two of his classmates. 'It's best if I keep my interaction with Asui and Yaoyorozu to a minimum. When I first met her, I told Asui my quirk was Thermal Vision, which is how I found her brother and sister. And there's a chance Yaoyorozu will recognize the scar she gave me under my left eye. I already knew I wouldn't be staying here for long, but it looks like it'll be even shorter than I thought.'
Izuku was snapped out of his thoughts when he sensed approaching bodily heat signatures. He didn't look up when the first few of his classmates opened the door. The first few were Iida, Yaoyorozu, Kirishima, Todoroki and Asui.
"Yo, Izuku!" Kirishima waved as he approached him. Izuku looked up as they crowded him, except for Shoto. "That breakfast was killer, man!" "Nutritious and delicious!" Iida praised while adjusting his glasses. "Where did you learn to cook so great?" Tsuyu asked.
"I read cook books in my free time." Izuku answered.
"It was splendid, thank you!" Momo thanked with a smile. Izuku looked away from her and in Shoto's direction. "...Good soba." he muttered. Izuku rolled his eyes, but wasn't mad or even annoyed.
Soon, more and more of Class 1-A arrived and went straight to praising Izuku's cooking skills and thanking him for the feast. He went from being feared to loved overnight with just one meal. Rikido Sato insisted that they cook together some time, compare notes. "Uh, sure." he agreed with uncertainty.
Izuku knew U.A. would bring completely new experiences and push him out of his comfort zone, but the last thing he expected was to be well-liked by the other students. It was... nice.
However, the positivity was impeded by the late arrival of two figures. Izumi Yagi and Katsuki Bakugo. Izuku's chest burned the moment they walked in, and they shared a threeway glare. Bakugo had come back from the infirmary for his arms, and Yagi left the dorms late after a long call with her parents. After that, she wasn't in the mood to eat breakfast.
The good will in the classroom was officially dead. Not a word was exchanged between the three before they sat down in their seats, and everyone else felt it was time to do the same.
When Aizawa came to class, everyone was already seated and quiet. Now that he couldn't complain about.
...
The first few hours of the day were regular school classes such as English, Mathematics and Modern Art. Boring yes, but Izuku surprised everyone with how academically adept he was, writing notes and answering questions asked by the teachers. No one thought he was dumb, but they didn't expect much from someone who was living on the street for they didn't know how long.
It was something Yaoyorozu and Ashido found to be an interesting detail. The former already hoping to have group study sessions, the latter finding it oddly familiar.
When the bell rang for lunch, everyone moved to the cafeteria. Everybody but one. Izuku made his own lunch and found a place outside the school building to sit and eat. 'It's too soon to let my guard down.' As he ate his phone buzzed.
[Nejire: Soooooo?]
Izuku sighed and smiled as he typed back.
[Izuku: You were right; making them breakfast helped.]
[Nejire: Yup! Your food can make anybody smile!]
[Izuku: Thanks for helping me think about how to put them at ease around me. I haven't forgotten about my end of the deal, expect a bento box on your balcony tomorrow.]
[Nejire: Yay!]
Meanwhile
At the girl's table, Yagi was ravenously feeding herself a large bowl of katsudon. Unlike her peers, she never had breakfast and needed the fuel. Momo handed her a glass of water when she choked.
"Yagi, what's Izuku's quirk?" the frog girl asked. Izumi wiped the food from her mouth with a napkin before answering. "He shouldn't even have one, the doctor said he was quirkless. I've never seen him show any power." she answered. Tsuyu sighed as that answer wasn't helpful to her.
"Has Zuku always been a smart cookie?" Ashido asked. "I was wondering if he'd help me study."
Izumi looked at the pink girl in surprise. "I guess he knows a thing or two."
Yaoyorozu and Asui felt a level of dissatisfaction. They noticed Izumi didn't seem thrilled to have her twin brother back in her life. It was concerning to say the least. "If you want to get close to him, it won't end well. Take it from somebody who knows."
Jiro spoke up. "Really? Cause I was thinking that he seems like much better company than the blonde prick you're so close to."
Speaking of, said prick was fuming at the boys table. "I'm so psyched for our first hero training!" Kirishima said excitedly. Most of the boys agreed with him. "Not to brag, but I've put myself through hell to strengthen my quirk. The harder I'm hit, the harder I get!"
"You might wanna rephrase that, dude..." Sero said beside him.
"I'm more curious about our newcomer's abilities," Tenya said. "He has impressive physical strength as we've seen, but that wouldn't be enough to place him very high."
"Whatever he can do, it won't matter." Todoroki said coldly.
"Tch! Do you idiots ever shut up!?" Bakugo yelled, slamming his hand on the table with a small explosion coming from his palm. "Deku this, Deku that! I don't wanna hear another peep about that bastard!"
Kirishima was fed up and had to ask the question that's been gnawing at him. "What's your problem with the guy!? You straight up tried to assault him when he first got here! What's the beef between you guys!?"
Katsuki glared at the redhead with extreme anger, a vein throbbing on his temple and small pops from his hands. "None of your fucking business, Shitty Hair! Keep sucking that loser's dick for all I care!" Katsuki aimed to leave the cafeteria.
Before he was out of sight, Kirishima spoke in a lower voice. "That 'loser' made you look like light work, you unmanly jerk." Whether or not he was meant to, Bakugo heard Kirishima's comment. His pupils shrunk to the size of pins and he walked back to the redhead, sparks emitting from his palms. Eijiro stood up and removed his grey blazer, his arms hardening as the blonde approached.
Tenya got in between the two before they could trade blows. "Calm down, both of you! This isn't the time or place!" Instead of defusing the two of them, Iida was pushed out of the way by Bakugo. "Stay outta this unless you want some too, Four Eyes!"
By this point, the two first years had the attention of most of the cafeteria, including their female classmates. "What the hell are you doing!?" Jiro yelled.
"Deku can wait until I've murdered your ass!" Katsuki said. "Try it, you coward!" Eijiro said.
"Have you both lost your minds!?" Yaoyorozu yelled. "Disarm your quirks before you do even more damage!"
"Shove it, cow!" Bakugo yelled. "That's it!" Kirishima moved to grab Bakugo's collar!
However, as he did, a spongy and strong appendage coiled around his waist and kept him from advancing to the grade-A bastard. The Hardening quirk user looked back to see Asui holding him back with her tongue. "Tsu!?" Eijiro yelled in surprise.
Katsuki took advantage of this and readied his signature right hook! "DIE!"
Instead of an explosion, all Katsuki threw was beads of sweat. Tsu still pulled her friend back reflexively, whose hardened skin reverted to normal. The ones with emitter type quirks were rendered powerless. The realization hit the students instantly. 'Uh oh...' Kirishima thought. 'Son of a bitch!'
The cafeteria fell silent, and footsteps rang closer, causing the dread in the two conflicting students to rise. When floating hair made its way through the crowd, the other students scrambled to get out of the way. Bakugo and Kirishima were stared down by glowing red eyes. "You two couldn't wait until your training to trade blows?" Mr Aizawa asked, grabbing his capture scarf.
Tsuyu retracted her tongue to be able to speak. "Mr Aizawa, how did you-?" Shota didn't wait for Asui to finish talking before restricting Katsuki and Eijiro in his scarf. "It was brought to my attention, by apparently the only rational mind here, that the blonde problem child was causing conflict with another student."
Katsuki growled at being called such a ridiculous name, but someone else would think it was karma. Just as everyone was wondering who reported it, Izuku made himself seen from behind Aizawa. "I heard and saw it from the entrance, and went to find our teacher."
Kirishima lowered his head in shame, but Bakugo growled, anger filling his body. He glared at Izuku hatefully, wanting to blow his face off but lacking the ability to. "My office. Now." The underground hero's eyes then shifted to a nervous Asui. "You too." he said while looking at her. "Ribbit?" Tsu croaked.
Momo stepped in in the frog's defense. "But sir, Asui only used her quirk to de-escalate the situation." Aizawa blinked, and erasure came undone. "I need a credible witness, and to chat with her about using her quirk without permission." Tsu gulped and hung her head low.
Jiro wasn't in agreement with that notion. "That's ridiculous, she-" but she was cut off by Tsuyu raising a hand at her, wordlessly asking the purplette to let it go. With that, Aizawa dragged off the spiky-haired boys with Tsuyu walking behind them. And Izuku behind Tsu.
...
After an... interesting lunch, the students of Class 1-A headed to the changing room to get ready for their first heroics class. However, they weren't as excited for it as they were earlier. Because of the now confirmed biggest asshole in their class, the rest of the school might see them all as nothing but a bunch of delinquents. Not only that, but two of the three who are seeing Aizawa may miss out on this.
"I feel bad for Kirishima." Kaminari said, with the boys murmuring in agreement. "It makes me wonder what school Bakugo came from to believe he can act so undignified," Iida sighed. "I'm just glad Izuku did the right thing and brought a teacher."
"What about Asui? Isn't she going to get punished?" Mineta asked. "I doubt it," Shoji said. "She used her quirk, but only to reduce the problem. I'm sure Aizawa will let her off easy."
Sato punched his fist into his palm. "Did you guys see Izuku when he looked at Bakugo? It looked like he wanted to murder him just as bad as Bakugo does." Sero groaned. "And just when it felt like he was starting warm up to us."
Meanwhile, on the girl's side. "Narcissistic, egotistical, brash, asshole!" Jiro grumbled to herself. It's official, she hates Bakugo, and most of her peers weren't far behind.
"I hope Tsu is okay." Toru said sadly. "Izuku went with her, maybe he'll try to cheer her up." Ochaco said, trying to lift the mood.
"He made a smart decision, alerting Mr Aizawa, but I'm sure he'd rather handle Bakugo personally again." Momo said. "I think I would've helped him! Kirishima didn't deserve to get dragged down with that asshat!" Ashido shouted.
Throughout everyone's opinions, Izumi was speechless with an unreadable expression. Jiro confronted the greenette. "Aren't you going to say anything about how your best friend was talking shit about your brother and got scolded by Aizawa again!? Seriously Yagi, you've got bad taste in friends!"
Izumi's face was readable at that. It was one of clear annoyance. "Kacchan doesn't lose his temper without reason. Don't forget, Kirishima was more than willing to swing at him, too."
A lot of the other girls looked at her like she was insane. It was silent for a while, until Mina sharply inhaled through her nose. "I get wanting to defend your friend... BUT ARE YOU INSANE!? Dickhead lost his temper before Izuku even did anything! And you don't even seem to care about your own brother! Did he really get kidnapped, or did he just need to get away from you!?"
Izumi, and many of the other girls looked at Mina in shock. Here she was saying that Izuku ran from home because he was sick of her. Izumi wasn't angered because of the accusation, she was hurt that it was the truth. But she couldn't let Mina know that, so she feigned outrage.
"Don't pretend like you know me, Kacchan or him!" With that, she stormed out of the changing room. Uraraka, Hagakure and Jiro wondered if that should've been handled differently. But Yaoyorozu and Ashido...
The pink-skinned girl remembered watching a news report a while back with a friend of hers. 'Teleki's kid goes missing, but the hero and her family don't know how. That still doesn't sit right with me, especially now.'
The ravenette glared at Yagi's back as she left. She remembered a broken boy's furious voice describing her and Bakugo. "Of all the countless scumbags that make up Aldera, those two are the worst." 'I know you all better than you think, Yagi.' she thought.
Meanwhile
"You did good, Asui." "Ribbit!?" Tsuyu croaked in surprise at the first few words that left Aizawa's mouth. They were outside the Erasure Hero's office where Bakugo and Kirishima were awaiting their judgment. "You weren't just a useless bystander when it was clear words wouldn't defuse the situation, and you pulled Kirishima away before blows could be traded. Wise judgment."
"However," Here it comes. "We still have rules about using quirks on school grounds. You're not in trouble like the other two, but I need to let you know before you make it a habit. If you can, resolve the conflict with minimal damage, quirks should be a last resort here. Understand?"
"Yes sir." she bowed her head.
"Good. Now then..." Aizawa looked at Izuku standing beside Asui. "I only called for Asui to come, so why are you here?"
Izuku took a brief glance at Tsu, and past Aizawa to the closed doors behind him where his friend was feeling bad because of his bully. "I didn't feel comfortable without seeing it resolved myself." Aizawa rubbed his eyes and sighed. "You two get changed. I'll be busy with these two, so someone else will be watching your class, now go before she docks points for being late."
"Yes sir." The pair bowed and left. It was just Izuku and Tsuyu walking through halls, the latter visibly frustrated, but not by much. Izuku... was not as subtle with his furious glare. Through the hatred and animosity for Bakugo, there was kindness, Tsuyu knew that for a fact. He tagged along because he's grown to care for her and Kirishima. He has his own way of showing kindness. They parted ways at their gender divided changing rooms, the boy having one resounding thought.
'It was bad enough what Bakugo would do to me, but if he or Yagi hurt any of them, I'll kill them myself!'
Gym Gamma
Seventeen members of Class 1-A were gathered in the building next to where they had their Quirk Apprehension test with Aizawa. To their disappointment, instead of wearing their hero costumes, they were in their gym uniforms and waiting for their teacher and hopefully more than one of their classmates.
The boys noticed that the atmosphere around the girls felt thick. As they were getting changed, they heard yelling, and now three of the six of them had glares on their faces.
Everyone turned their heads to the sound of approaching footsteps. Izuku was coming, and to their relief, Tsuyu was with him. They both went to their classmates and were questioned. "So how'd it go?" Jiro asked. "Mr Aizawa said I did the right thing, but to not always resort to my quirk to solve disputes."
"You acted calmly and rationally," Yaoyorozu said to Tsu, smiling in her direction. "It could've gone worse if not for you, Asui." Tsuyu blushed and smiled. "Ribbit, thank you, but please just call me Tsu."
Meanwhile, Izuku was asked about the metal guards on his arms, and simply said they keep him in check. They were curious, but didn't press further. They could see he was visibly pissed, and it was no wonder why. Mineta took it upon himself to try and cheer Izuku up in his own way.
"Look dude, I know you're upset about your buddy is missing out on this. But just wait till you see our teacher! Curves for days!" the ball-headed boy salivated, not helping Izuku's mood at all.
"Mineta!" Iida began to chastise while chopping his arm through the air. "You can't talk about one of our teachers in such a degrading way! It's unbecoming!"
"She'll put a bullet in you." Izuku said darkly.
"And she'll put a bullet in... what!?"
The class became silent when their teacher arrived. "I guess this is all I'm getting for today." she said apathetically. A tall, mature woman with multicolored hair in a low hanging ponytail, wearing a sleeveless purple dress, rust brown utility belt and white and grey combat boots with steel toes. Her facial expression, like Aizawa, made it clear she wasn't going to tolerate nonsense.
"Like I said for those who were in class, I'm your heroics teacher for the day, Kaina Tsutsumi. My hero name is Lady Nagant. Go with whichever you want. The reason you all aren't in uniform is because today's focus is how well you fair without your quirks."
The class looked at their teacher with surprised faces. Izumi was more distraught than anyone though. "Wouldn't it be suicide to train us not to use our quirks!?" she asked, Nagant sighed.
"There are times when your quirk isn't suitable for a situation. Some have versatile quirks that can fit a variety of situations. Others have to get creative and push themselves to adapt. The purpose of this training is so that you're not completely worthless when your power isn't a viable option."
Nagant saw that many of the kids understood, but a few were still skeptical. "I'm keeping it simple for now, but all of you will be put in various situations where you'll struggle, and be graded not by how easily you get through it, but by the effort you put in to adapt. Prove to me that you're strong, not that you have it easy."
Kaina's reasoning was more than valid. Her lesson was focused on overcoming weaknesses. "You'll be doing one-on-one sparring, everyone goes at least once. Shoji, no making extra appendages, only the hands on your upper arms."
"Yes ma'am." the multi-armed boy said.
"Asui, keep your tongue in your mouth."
"Yes ma'am." the frog girl said.
"Jiro, keep your ears limp. Ojiro, no using your tail."
"Yes ma'am." they both said.
With the rules clear and in place, Nagant invited a volunteer to get the ball rolling. Immediately, Izuku stepped forward. But who would be willing to trade blows with him, especially in his current mood. The scowl on his face didn't say 'I'll go easy.' However, before Lady Nagant could pick a partner for Izuku, someone else stepped up to face him willingly. It was none other than...
"Yaoyorozu!?" most of the class gasped in surprise. Izuku was mildly surprised but didn't show it. With Bakugo and Kirishima being punished by Aizawa, Izuku wasn't really expecting anyone to willingly step into the ring with him.
"I only ask that you don't go easy on me." she said as they stood directly in front of each other. "Understood." Izuku said.
The two students were facing each other down in a white painted circle. Yaoyorozu took a fighting stance while Izuku took a similar one. "One more thing," Nagant began again. "You will fight until I say stop or the other falls out of bounds. Go!"
Izuku took off from the ground with a lunge, closing the gap between himself and his opponent with great speed. 'He's faster than I expected!' Yaoyorozu thought. Izuku put his fist in his palm and aimed to strike Momo with his elbow, but she ducked to avoid it.
Izuku went for a sweeping kick, but his opponent jumped to avoid it. Momo aimed kick him on the side of his leg to make it slack, but her leg met his to defend.
Izuku's counter was a punch that Momo caught. She attempted to punch his stomach, but he blocked with his gauntlet-protected forearm. The two of them glared at each other before jumping back at the same time.
Their classmates were amazed by the pair's fighting prowess. "Dang, I didn't expect Yaoyorozu to be able to fight so good!" Kaminari exclaimed. "I thought prissy rich types like her only fought in court!" Mineta shouted.
"Seems they both have martial arts training. I'd like to spar with them both." Ojiro said.
"It's like a live karate movie with those two!" Jiro said. "Ribbit, those two are definitely skilled at fighting without powers." Tsuyu said to Izumi's dismay.
With the combatants, Momo was struggling. She was surprised to see that Izuku wasn't just strong but skilled, and it seemed like he could anticipate her moves. She had landed a few blows on him, but so did he. Momo's final attack was a roundhouse kick to Izuku's bicep. He shoved her leg back and sent her out of bounds with a palm to her gut.
"Yaoyorozu is out of bounds." Kaina announced. Izuku walked out himself and to his classmate. She was shakily standing back up while clutching her sore stomach.
"Need a hand?" Izuku asked while holding his out. Momo looked up at him, his eyes looking far less violent and more... concerned. Momo accepted the gesture, immediately surprised by the roughness of his hands. The scars led her to deduce they wouldn't be soft, but they were oddly bumpy as well.
"Where did you learn to fight like that?" Momo asked. Izuku looked away from her as soon as she was upright. "I watched someone impressive." That was all she got before he left her side. For a moment, Momo caught a glimpse of sad eyes and a scar under his... left eye.
After watching Izuku and Momo, the rest of the class were spurred into putting in the effort as well. Granted, few were keen on fighting the first two but class was going well. Surprisingly, Hagakure offered to be Izuku's sparring partner. She wasn't as refined as Momo in terms of fighting prowess, but there was spirit behind her flurry of punches that Izuku dodged and parried each time. He even caught her hand when she went to poke his eyes.
The others looked at him in astonishment, but none more surprised than Toru. "Y-You... can you see me!?"
Izuku released her hand. "Not exactly, but I can feel the way your body moves through the air. My quirk allows me to pick up on small details like that."
'No, he can see Toru. Thermal Vision would let him see her body's shape and movements.' Tsuyu thought.
Nagant noticed one student not participating. The very same one that was against her lesson plan. 'Izuku's spoiled sister.' "You. Come up." Yagi looked surprised, but trekked into the circle and her opponent was... Izuku.
Izumi wasn't exactly worried. Izuku had fought Yaoyorozu, Hagakure, Shoji and Ojiro. Yes, he may have won each time, but he must be worn out. She would surely knock the volatile glare he was sending her right off his face. 'Quirkless combat? I wonder who could've thought of that bone-head idea.'
The spectators were watching intently. They knew very well that there was a heavy beef between the twins, and that the incoming fight would be anything but pretty. Tsuyu and Momo made sure to keep their eyes locked solely on Izuku. Nagant gave the twins the green light.
Izuku wasted no time in closing the gap. In an instant, he was in Izumi's face with his right arm pulled back. Yagi avoided with a back step, though only barely. She aimed a kick at Izuku's stomach, but he caught her leg before it could connect. She released a scream when she felt her ankle get crushed.
From there, Izuku swung her and slammed her back onto the ground. "Woah shit!" Kaminari yelled. "Is he really gonna go that far with his sister!?" Sero asked.
Izumi narrowly avoided getting her skull crushed with a roll. Izuku was moving faster than she had seen and much more violently. In that case, Izumi resorted to using her quirk without being blatantly obvious. A small amount of force against Izuku, which let her avoid getting kicked in the teeth.
Izuku noticed what was happening, and it caused a terrible memory to surface. One of him and Izumi as eight-year-olds, the latter holding Izuku in the air long after it was fun and spinning him around until he got sick.
The scarred twin grew even more enraged and pushed even harder to get to Yagi. The green-haired girl saw the incoming punch and moved to block it. What she didn't expect was for the punch to be a feint, and to receive a swift kick to the gut. Izuku wasn't done. Before Yagi was blown too far back, Izuku grabbed her arm and pulled her back in. He repeatedly kicked her in the stomach, and sent her off with a strong knee to the jaw.
Izumi landed on her back, her mouth bleeding from the impact. She wasn't given a moment to breathe as Izuku grabbed her by the collar and pulled back his fist. Izumi grit her teeth and pulled back her fist to match.
BANG!*
The twins froze as a sharp bullet flew in between the narrow space between their heads, cutting off tufts of green and black hair. Everybody was silent, shocked into not making a peep. The only sound through the gym was footsteps approaching the twins. She stared down at them with narrow eyes in a glare that bore into them. Izuku released Izumi and they both released their fists.
"First the Bakugo's arms, then the lunch incident, now this. Calling you three problem children doesn't begin to cover it."
Izumi looked at her in outrage. "Three of us!? He was the one who-" "Followed my instructions," Nagant interrupted. "Unlike you, he didn't use his quirk the moment he was put in an uncomfortable situation." Izumi kept quiet after that, silently admitting she cheated to the class, too.
Nagant retracted her sniper back into her arm. "Get yourself to the infirmary with that quirk you apparently can't do anything without. And you..." she looked at Izuku. "Get changed and meet me in the teacher's dorm." The twins did as Nagant ordered, Izumi had a scowl on her face but it was nothing compared to Izuku's.
...
"One step forward; two steps back." Tokoyami sighed. They all came back to the dorms where Kirishima was dusting the windows and Bakugo was taking out the trash from the kitchen. "I think things might be even worse than when he first got here." Uraraka said.
Kirishima slammed his fist against the windowsill in frustration and self-anger. "Dammit. It's my fault. If I hadn't butted heads with Bakugo, Izuku wouldn't have been so mad..." He received a hand on his shoulder from Asui.
"You were defending your friend, he knows that. And he probably also knows Bakugo was the one who started it." Her words brought him some degree of comfort.
Infirmary
Izumi was laid up in bed with a bandaged ankle on ice. Recovery Girl had given her first aid and time to recover mentally. 'I don't get it. Even though my body is weaker now, Deku shouldn't be strong enough to do this to me. And what's more, everyone seems to be gravitating to him. He was a pariah, why did that have to change!?' Izumi looked around the infirmary for no reason, and found something that made her sick. A picture of Hisashi. Apparently, he had made a memorable impression on the Youthful Heroine when he was still alive. Izumi used her Telekinesis to make the photo face down.
Suddenly, the door swung open. "Izumi, are you okay!?" Toshinori ran to his daughter's side. "I heard what happened, Izuku is being scolded by Lady Nagant."
Izumi clutched her fist. Although she was tired from the healing, she still had steam to blow off. "Dad, you said he was disturbed, not a complete psychopath!" Toshinori recoiled at Izumi's shout. "You know what he did to Kacchan! Why is he here at U.A. and not a mental hospital!?" The frail man rubbed the back of his neck.
"He didn't get in for free, he took a test and everything. As for how he lashed out, did you or Katsuki do anything to provoke such extreme reactions from him?"
"Kacchan just asked him some questions and he snapped. Sparring today, he tried to kill me before I did anything! And the crazy gun lady almost shot me in the face!"
"Well listen, I'll be overseeing your class tomorrow. I'll talk to him and Nezu about his destructive tendencies and get him sorted out. For now, just rest up." Toshinori kissed his daughter on the forehead and left her to herself. She could only hope Izuku was being punished most severely.
...
Izuku was back in his old room in the teacher's dorm. He sat against the bed, in between Kaina's legs while she caressed his hair with a single hand. The other one was holding the notebook Izuku used to keep tabs on himself. "Wouldn't it have been easier to tell me how you felt instead of making me wait for you to write it out?"
"It wouldn't. Don't you have enough paperwork as a teacher?" Kaina smirked and put down the book. "You know, the only reason I made you two stop is because you were scaring the hell out of your classmates." Izuku sighed with green fire escaping his jaw.
"How could you tell Yagi was using her quirk?" Izuku asked. "You're not the only one with a good pair of eyes on you. Your hair gave it away. It was constantly blowing back, even when you moved in ways that should've made it flow forwards."
"Can I... spend the night here?" Izuku asked. Kaina put both hands in his hair, getting Izuku to release gruff purrs. He took that as a yes.
knock knock*
Izuku and Kaina looked at the door as it opened before either of them could say come in. The furry creature of indeterminant species they called the principal entered, paws behind his back. The former jail birds immediately knew they were in for a serious discussion.
"I thought I should warn you, All Might saw what you did and will be overseeing your class tomorrow." Izuku's eyes darkened as he grit his teeth, and smoke escaped from the gaps between them.
"He didn't finish it, did he?" Izuku asked. "My notebook when I was the Green Devil. Hawks gave it to him. Even after everything, he and Inko still don't have the guts to face what they've done!" Nezu looked at the floor, his silence confirming Izuku's words.
The boy was livid. His fists were balled so tightly his knuckles turned white and his palms bled. "He did read it, Izuku, and he wants to atone." Nezu tried to calm him down, but Kaina interjected. "How's he going to do that if he doesn't really know what he's done? What he's continuing to do?"
"I'll kill them." Izuku said softly.
"Yagi and Bakugo haven't changed, Toshinori is still on their side, and Inko hasn't even tried to reach out to me since I was imprisoned. If this turns out to be another Aldera, then that's it."
Izuku looked Nezu dead in the eye. His gaze not angry or hateful, but resolute. "I'll kill Yagi, Bakugo, Toshinori and Inko, and anyone who takes their side. Then I'll burn this school to the ground. I won't go through what turned me into a monster again. And then I'll make you pay, too. I won't forgive you for dragging me here just to have my heart ripped out again."
Nezu nodded. "I understand. Goodnight Izuku." With that, the principal left. Izuku exhaled fire again before resting in between Nagant's legs. She continued to play with his hair, comforting him as much as she could.
...
"Doesn't it feel weird to be back here? Or is it more comforting than your new dorm?" Nejire asked. When Izuku told her she was spending the night in the teacher's dorm, she flew to his balcony to check up on him. At least this way, they don't have to worry about being caught by the first years. The third year made cups of jasmine tea to put Izuku at ease. As much as he could, anyway.
"Better than being under the same roof as my sister and Bakugo." Izuku answered.
"Hey, so why were your friends fighting in the cafeteria? It's only the second day?"
Izuku put down his cup. "Bakugo picked a fight and Kirishima didn't back down. He was sticking up for me since I wasn't there to do it myself." Nejire smiled at him. "And you went with him and the frog girl cause you didn't wanna leave them. Sounds like you have good friends already."
Izuku scoffed. 'Some friend I am, they wouldn't have been fighting if I wasn't here.' "So what's their punishment?" Hado asked. "They both missed out on today's training and had to clean the dorms. They'll be back in class by tomorrow. You should go back to your dorm. Isn't curfew coming up?"
Nejire sighed. "Yeah, yeah." Before she left, she enveloped Izuku in a hug, which he reciprocated. "Thanks for coming to check up on me." he said. When they broke away, Nejire held his hands. "Of course I came, I was worried about you. G'night!" With that, Nejire flew off, leaving a trail of golden light particles.
Izuku sat on the edge of his balcony and finished his tea. He remembered Sato and many of his other classmates if he could make dinner some time. He wasn't going to do that tonight, but he felt he did owe them something for all the stress he put them through.
Class 1-A Dorms
The first years had just finished dinner and were retiring to their rooms. Before Yaoyorozu could go, she was approached by Tsuyu. "Hey Yaoyorozu, I noticed you were watching Izuku a lot after your fight." she blatantly said. Momo blushed at the implications of her blunt choice of words.
"I-I suppose. It's just that he reminds me of someone." Momo said, and Tsuyu nodded. "I see. Would this 'someone' happen to have bushy black and white hair, wore a face mask, and had the angriest, most pain-filled eyes you've ever seen?"
Momo was speechless and stared at Asui with her jaw hanging. "Gather the girls, my room in five minutes." Momo nodded and they split up.
knock knock*
"I'll get it!" Ochaco announced. She went to the door and opened it, only to find no one. There was, however, a plastic bag of mochi, Ochaco's favorite snack! 'This'll go good with the meeting!' the brunette thought as she picked up the bag, and found a note attached to it.
"I'm sorry."
- Izuku
Ochaco suddenly felt sad. It was painfully obvious to her and her classmates that Izuku was a bag of trauma that left him prone to lashing out. At least when he feels or knows he's to blame for a conflict, he has the decency to apologize unlike certain people. Bakugo and Yagi.
She took the bag upstairs with her. Suddenly, she remembered going to a restaurant with her parents before starting U.A. Uraraka put it together that Izuku ordered her that mochi, but how could he know she liked that? The only other boy who might know that would be... 'Izuku is Zu!!' She froze in realization right outside of Tsuyu's room where Mina dragged her in.
The question now is how do they approach him moving forward?
