Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, things went from bad to worse. Just as Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder were recovered from the river, Doctor Octopus unleashed the devastating effects of Devil's Breath on New York City, spreading a plague across the city. Even Aunt May has been infected, though she's not saying anything. Meanwhile, Osborn has decided to blame our trio for all of this, and has ordered Sable International to hunt them down while they're trying to enforce a city-wide lockdown and battle escapees from both Ryker's and The Raft. And when our three heroes do manage to get a look at things after sneaking out of the hospital, it's bleak. Even Spyro and Cynder, who have faced the end of the world before, are doubtful as to whether they can pull out. So, what's the situation looking like now? Read on to discover...
(Our scene resumes hours after we left it, with our trio of heroes trying to figure out what to do next from across the city, over a phone call)
Spider-Man: (Swinging through the city) So, you two faced down the apocalypse last time, I'm the rookie here, what do we do next?
Spyro: (As he forces a Raft prisoner into a wall) Hard to say. We've got bands of former prisoners taking over entire city blocks, and we've got to take them out while keeping hidden from Sable.
Cynder: (Breaking open a containment cell in a Sable base) And if what I'm seeing is to be believed, Sable's just rounding up random people and holding them in bases across the city because Osborn told her to do anything necessary to find Li and Octavius. (Kicks a Sable Guard in the head, knocking him out) Trust me, I am definitely reconsidering my friendship with her over this! She's even using ENHANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES here!
Spider-Man: This is getting out of hand. (Realizes he's got another call waiting) Hold on. It's May. (Switches over) Hey, May.
Aunt May: Peter! I've been trying to reach you all day! Are you okay? The prison break turned the city upside down just about overnight.
Spider-Man: Doing fine, trying to stay safe. If anything, I'm more worried about you.
Aunt May: Don't you worry about me. F.E.A.S.T. is the safest place in the city right now. Wish I could say the same for our sister locations up town. We're safe here though.
Spider-Man: Let's hope it stays that way. I'll stop in when I can. Love you, May.
Aunt May: You too, Peter.
(And with that, Aunt May hangs up)
Spider-Man: I think I know where I'm headed.
Spyro: We heard everything, go for it.
Cynder: We'll catch up with you after we're done here.
(But just as they say that, a call comes in, from Yuri)
Spyro: What's the situation, Yuri?
Yuri: Some of the Raft MVPs came back on the grid, sieging our precincts. My men need all the help they can get. Get to a vantage point in Midtown and I'll explain.
Cynder: Who're we dealing with, Octavius?
Yuri: No, two of his flunkies. The search for the doctor is ongoing. Got to be honest, he scares me. This guy might be the smartest supervillain we've encountered.
Spyro: We're worried about this one too.
Cynder: Just hold strong, Yuri. We're on our way. (Hangs up)
Spider-Man: I'll meet you guys in Midtown
Spyro: Spidey, you said you've got your mission already.
Cynder: Head uptown and help out F.E.A.S.T. We'll handle this.
Spider-Man: (At first apprehensive, and then relenting) Alright, but call on me if you need any aid.
Cynder: Will do.
(Fast forward a few moments, and while Spider-Man slings off to his target, Spyro and Cynder rejoin in Midtown and call Yuri back)
Yuri: Good thing you three called, it's getting worse.
Spyro: Hope we can do with just two. Spidey's off on his own mission right now.
Yuri: You and Cynder will have to do then. So, let me fill you in. Rhino's at the Upper West Precinct, and Electro's at the Upper East. We need to turn the tide. Whichever one you decide to tackle first, it doesn't matter. They're equally screwed. (Hangs up)
Spyro: Electro knows my Electricity can counter him, and chances are, he's prepared for that. Especially with Doctor Octavius backing him up.
Cynder: And none of my abilities really have an effect on Rhino, thanks to that suit of his. (Thinks it over) I'll head East, you go West.
Spyro: Roger that. Rendezvous with Spidey when we're done.
(And with that, the two dragons take off in opposing directions to complete their missions as our tale ends for today.)
And that seems like a good place to end for today. Yes I know it's a little weird to have Spyro and Cynder go on a mission without Spider-Man in this story, but I wanted to really explore them a little bit, without the aid of the Wall-Crawler. So, can the two dragons turn the tides in Midtown? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
