Sorry this took forever, I have had most of this chapter written for months but this is the first chance I have had to finish it. I promise you all I will finish this story but it may take a while because being an adult with school, work and home life sucks.
After Lindir figured out the dwarves were gone he ran off to tell Lord Elrond it was only a moment before Lord Elrond returned to were Cheyenne was still standing. Only it wasn't just Lord Elrond, Saruman also came with him to see for themselves that the dwarves had gone. The hair on the back of Cheyenne's neck stood up and chills went down her spine as the white wizard stared at her.
"Where have they gone girl?" his voice was deep and frightening.
"I...I don't know"
"Lies!"
Cheyenne jumped her heart was pounding, he was scarier than she imagined he would be. Lord Elrond spoke up "I do not believe the girl knows where they are" he looked at the wizard who still looked irritated. "They only brought her this far they never had any reason to take her with them. They left her behind as you can see they wouldn't have reason to tell her where they were going."
"I suppose you are right Lord Elrond" Saruman said but still looked at Cheyenne questionably.
He departed with Lord Elrond to where Cheyenne was not sure, Gandalf came walking up shortly after "I see you have met the head of our order Saruman The White."
Cheyenne grumbled "yeah we met"
Gandalf gave a small chuckle "he isn't as bad as he seems."
"I wouldn't count on that" Cheyenne mumbled but Gandalf seemed to have heard her because his expression became dark and curious.
"I will going following up with them after I take care of some business with Lord Elrond, you are welcome to wait till I finish and follow me."
Cheyenne looked up at him and gave a grave smile "I need to go on ahead and try to catch up with them, I do not have time to waste."
Gandalf gave her a smile "I understand, take great care I fear the worst is ahead of us."
"You have no idea" Cheyenne turned to leave.
"Remember Miss Gordon that even the smallest pebble can create ripples and the weakest man can still make a difference in the fate of the world. I believe that you have more power inside of you and more bravery than all of the dwarves combined" he winked at her.
"Thank you" she said softly smiling at him and walking away, she was beginning to panic because she had not quite thought her plan through. She was kicking herself for not going with the dwarves even though Gandalf had offered her to go with him in pursuit of the company she had a very bad feeling in the pit of her stomach that they would come too late. In the book they had not separated from the wizard and in the movie well she knew well enough by now that she couldn't rely on the movie. Her very being in Middle Earth has changed even the smallest of things.
She was walking very briskly down a path leading to the secret passage that the dwarves had used to escape Rivendell. She was walking so briskly in fact and watching her feet to make sure she didn't step on her dress that she almost ran into a figure along the path. She had seen the bottom of a pearl white dress and stopped so quickly that she almost fell back. As Cheyenne looked up she noticed the dressed seemed to be made of starlight and she had a sneaking suspicion of whom it may belong too. "Lady Galadriel" Cheyenne's voice quivered and she never looked up Galadriel had always been one of her favourite characters.
"Very curious that you should know who I am without ever laying eyes on my face" her voice was calm and sounded like the song of heaven with every word.
Cheyenne looked up slowly at the Elven Queen who was more beautiful than anything imaginable, her hair flowed like white satin across her shoulders. Her face was pale and perfect like that of a victorian painting and her eyes shown like never ending clear blue pools of water but with an age about them that span millennia. "I" she stammered but was shaking and unable to speak for the Elf was so gorgeous and stood with such poise that she could not speak.
Galadriel smiled "do not fret young one for you have come for a most noble purpose and I come bearing a message" Cheyenne looked but her mouth was not moving, telepathy Cheyenne thought. All of a sudden a great wind blew and a blue hue engulfed Galadriel she spoke in a voice not her own "sacrifice must be given for all great deeds require it but you shall change the fate of more than just dwarves. The very fate of Middle Earth will rest on the deeds that you will accomplish in your lifetime for that I shall offer you my help. When my help will truly be needed you shall have it and until then may Iluvatar bless you and your journey." The glow went away and Galadriel shook as though being shocked and Cheyenne tried to steady her.
"Varda the Star Queen, who is worshipped by the Elves" Cheyenne's face was pale and her voice small.
"Yes" Galadriel's voice shook as she regained her composure.
Before Cheyenne had time to notice Galadriel had vanished 'Good luck" was all that could be heard of her voice now that lingered in the air.
Cheyenne was pondering the things that she had just heard when another figure appeared in front of her, this time it was Arwen. "Hey" Cheyenne said rather startled she had not expected to see her, "I'm sorry I can't really talk I am in a hurry."
"I know, but you can't go tramping through the wild wearing that" she smiled "follow me." Cheyenne followed her without another word back to the room where she had gone before her bath. Arwen was silent as she rummaged for something in the back of a wardrobe, whatever she was looking for was clearly old. After a moment she pulled out a very small outfit that looked like it had belonged to a child but resembled what she wore when she rescued Frodo in the Lord of the Rings movie. "This should probably fit you, it was mine when I was a child before I left for Lorien" she held up a gray long sleeved cloak that laced in the front. She also held up a purple tunic and gray vest along with dark gray pants and knee high boots.
"Thank you" Cheyenne managed with a nervous smile "but how did you know where I was going?"
"Because I know the look of determination, it was obvious you didn't want to part with your company therefore you must go after them."
Cheyenne had just finished pulling up the last boot and folded the dress "thank you for letting me borrow this, I think it's very beautiful."
Arwen refused the dress when Cheyenne tried to return it to her "it no longer fits me so you may keep it, when you wear it may it always remind you that you have friends among the elves."
She smiled and Cheyenne was so moved she felt like crying, she folded the dress up and sticking it in her bag before she said her goodbye. She took of at a mild run up the path the dwarves had taken and after what seemed like eternity she found its end. Melancholy washed over her as she turned back toward Rivendell which she could no longer see. She knew she would never lay eyes on the last homely house ever again. She turned attention back to the road ahead the sun was starting to dip below the mountains. It cast a pinkish orange glow across the fields and glistening mountain walls. The mountains were still a fair distance away and as Cheyenne looked overhead dark clouds began to form in the sky. She scanned the horizon and saw the dark figures of the dwarves entering the trail that lead on the side of the mountain. A closer look to the west revealed a pack of orcs riding wargs. Well shit this is going to be one hell of a night.
