Chapter 34, Bacon in the Drawer
I scurried back into the Hanger to tell Elizabeth what I was told. I found her leaning against the Device, looking down at the ground with her arms crossed as if she was pondering something.
"Hey, I got an update of some kind," I stated.
She met my gaze, "What did they tell you?"
I scratched my head, "Well, the scouts are out for the next week, so we'd have to wait for them. But I did find something else out."
She raised an eyebrow, "What else did you find?"
"I got a tip from our old philosophical friends."
It took a split second for her to realize who I was referring to and her expression immediately changed, "Oh. Took them long enough to finally say something. I was wondering if they were ever going to come back. What tip did they grace you with?"
"Go northeast and eventually we'll find a factory? That's it," I replied.
She shrugged then shook her head, "I'm not even surprised at this point. Weirdly convenient for them to show up all of a sudden like this. Nonetheless, it has to mean something. Everything happens for a reason in their eyes. Anyway, I'll get our stuff if you want to get the jeep ready."
I shrugged, "I don't know. Are you up for a nice stroll out in the middle of nowhere, looking for a factory?"
She shook her head, "Very funny. No, I'd rather spare my legs the pain."
She walked a way to get our stuff together while I made my way to the jeep. For the last few months, this jeep has been extremely helpful. It's been especially nice with it being offroad, making it easier to go really anywhere in the Mojave, no matter the terrain. The frame of the jeep was more rusty than the red it used to have and we at least were able to install a new windshield on it, despite a huge crack on the right side of the windshield. The seats were worn and we didn't have a spare tire on the back where one would be. Regardless, it was still very nice to have and will easily help us find this factory wherever the hell it is.
I turned the key in the ignition, turned the jeep on and drove it over to the hanger where Elizabeth was with our backpacks in hand and a jerry can next to her. I got out of the jeep and helped her load our stuff in.
"I brought an extra can just in case we need it."
"We should be fine. I refilled the jeep two days ago. But a spare amount won't hurt."
Once the jeep was loaded up, we both got in the jeep, and drove to the front gate to be let out. Once the guards opened up the gate, we drove out and headed northeast, into the unknown. It started out smooth, but then some bumps in the dirt and hills made the ride a bit more uncomfortable. Nothing we haven't gone through before, but it did spark Elizabeth to say something.
"You still really need to improve your driving Evan," she snarky remarks with a subtle smile.
"Better than you. You drive like an old woman," I retorted.
She raised her hands, "Hey, I'm trying to be careful. Slow and steady wins the race. Ever heard of the Tortoise and the Hare?"
I sarcastically gasped, "Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't privileged like you with having access to all those books you had in your tower and so much free time."
She punched me in the arm, forcing a smile on my face, and giving me the win with the comeback as we continued our bumpy, dusty drive across the wasteland, still going northeast.
After about two and a half hours of driving, I took notice of a factory up in the distance or rather what remains of one. The whole building looked like it collapsed in on itself, but you could still see the remnants of a factory from long ago. Though I couldn't see a way inside from this distance.
"Think that's it," I asked.
"More than likely. Let's get closer and see," Elizabeth replied.
As we got closer, I could see just how caved in this place really was. The main administrative building, or what I assume it was, completely collapsed in on itself and the main production building only looked slightly better with it still somewhat standing. The thing is, this whole place was so crumbled, it looked impossible to get in, at least without any equipment to move pieces out of the way.
"Not seeing a way in here. I'll do a lap around the building and see if there is some kind of an opening," I stated.
We drove around the building, unable to still see a clear opening while seeing more damage the building had sustained over the decades. Based on how much nature had taken over the building and how much damage it had taken, this wasn't going to be easy to enter.
"Did you see anything," I asked.
"No. Let's try another lap. Maybe we missed something," she replied.
I drove around again, this time with my eyes peeled for any sort of weakness in the structure. Then I saw something. There was a very small opening in the rubble that had a few pieces of rebar sticking out. If we may be lifted up the rubble with the rebar, it could give us an opening to get in.
"I see something, "I state, stopping the jeep, " Do you see that opening there with the rebar sticking out?"
Elizabeth took a moment to look and see, "Yes. That could work. Provided it doesn't cave in on us."
"Well, let's give it a try," I say, turning the jeep off and getting out of it.
We both walked towards the rebar and got in position ready to lift.
"Ok on three. One. Two. Three," I state, lifting as hard as I can.
Even with the two of us together, the rubble refused to move.
"Let's try it again, ready?"
She nodded, "Ready."
"One. Two. Three," I counted, lifting again as hard as I could.
I could feel the rubble starting to move around again, almost as if it was getting ready to go.
"Third time's the charm," I sarcastically asked.
Elizabeth shook her head, "You're going to throw my back out trying to do this."
"I swear I felt it moving around, another lift and it should give us an opening."
She shrugged, "Alright, one more time."
"Ok. One. Two. Three," I counted, lifting with all the energy I had left.
The rubble slowly started to lift up one more time before it started to shift around and start causing a part of the building to collapse. We quickly took notice of it and darted out of the way as it completely fell apart. The dust started kicking up towards us, leaving Elizabeth coughing up dirt while my helmet only had a small amount of dirt enter it.
"You alright," I asked, clearing my throat.
"Yeah. I hope that worked," Elizabeth replied, coughing and fanning dust out of her face.
After a minute, the dust finally settled, and a decently sized opening was available to us to enter.
"Well, looks like we got our entrance. Let's see what we have here, " I state, entering the opening.
As we got inside and I took a quick glance around, I saw what this factory once was. I could see an assortment of robots, kitchen, stove, appliance, and car parts littered throughout the place. I even could see stacks of metal in the corner telling me one thing, this factory was once a scrap metal factory of some kind. Which means we got our potential options laid out for us.
"Well, shall we take a look around and see if there's much stronger copper here," I asked.
"Yeah. If anything we can come back here to get the rest of the metal for later. For now, let's try to find it. I'll take this side if you want to take that side over there," she suggested.
I nodded, and I got to work, rummaging through the parts throughout the facility. After a few minutes of rummaging around, I felt like I was getting nowhere. There was plenty of scrap metal and parts here for other potential projects, but nothing that we were looking for for the Lutece Device. I opened up a chest and dug around only to find nothing, but loose wires and circuitry. I slammed the chest in frustration, kicking up a huge amount of dust in my face, having me wipe it away. Once I did, I took notice of something in the far corner of my right eye. A few feet away I saw something sticking out of the ground underneath a table, noticeably different to the floor around it. I walked towards it and moved the table to the side and saw a locked basement door. I doubt we were going to find the key after all this time, so I pulled out my revolver and shot the lock off.
"What did you find," I heard Elizabeth shout.
"Something interesting. Come take a look," I shouted back.
She scurried over to see the discovery I had made.
"Secret entrance," she asked.
"More like a storage facility of some kind. Let's see what's down there," I replied, opening the door.
It was a decent fit with a metal ladder leading down to the bottom.
"Ladies first, " I sarcastically say.
"Ok. Cowards last, " she replied, climbing down the ladder.
"Coward? If I recall, you were pretty yellow when I first met you in a way. Remember the ghoul that made you wake me up," I stated, following down after her.
"Funny. I chalk that up to unfamiliarity with the world I just entered."
"That's a funny way of saying yellow."
She threw a small bolt at me in response.
"Ow. That wasn't nice."
"Let's just focus on finding this copper," she states, turning her flashlight on.
I do the same as we scan the basement. It was quite large, but littered everywhere were shelves upon shelves of different kinds of packaged metal based on some of the labels written on them.
"I think we found what we are looking for," I stated.
"Yeah. They must have stored the higher quality metal here and packed them up."
"Which means there has to be some kind of copper here."
I went right while Elizabeth went left, scanning the shelves to find what we were looking for. So far, there was no copper, until I saw a moderately sized box further down that was labeled, Glidcop - Copper Alloy System. For high electricity and conduit use. Extremely valuable. Looks like we found what we were looking for.
"Elizabeth, I think I found it," I announced.
In an instant I heard a shelf collapse and several gunshots. I pulled out my revolver and hurried over to where I heard it.
"Elizabeth," I shouted, "Are you alright?"
As I got closer, I saw what happened. It was a medium sized Radscorpion, shot dead.
"Yeah. It just came out of that hole over there," she said, pointing her light towards the hole it came out of.
I took a quick look before I heard the ground start to vibrate subtly. I think all the noise we made arriving here, woke up a nest of them.
"I think it's time we go," I declared.
"Right. Did you find the copper," she asked.
"Yes, I'll grab it, you keep our exit clear."
Elizabeth ran back to the entrance while I walked back down the shelves and grabbed the box containing the Glidcop. It was decently heavy, but not too heavy to warrant help. I then scurried back to where Elizabeth was. But as I looked back, I could see a dozen or so more Radscorpions making their way towards me. I pushed over a shelf behind me, as a way to slow some of them down and continued towards her. As I got closer to her, I pulled another shelf down just in case before making my way up the ladder, the radscorpions soon right behind me. I handed her the box and shut the door, while getting the table moved back over the door.
"Way to make more of a mess Evan," Elizabeth stated.
I shook it off, "Let's get to the jeep and get out of here. Only going to be a matter of time till they dig up out of there now."
We sprinted to the entrance we had made earlier and got back into the jeep. As I set the crate in the jeep, I could feel the ground underneath starting to rumble, telling me to speed it up.
I got in the jeep, started it up, and backed up to the sight in front of me of Radscorpions coming out of the building. I put it back in Drive and drove off as fast as I could, with one of them jumping in the back of the jeep. Elizabeth wasted no time in pulling out her pistol, and started unloading on it, before throwing its corpse out the back.
I wiped some of the Radscorpion blood off of my helmet, "Well that was close. Hopefully that copper is going to be worth it."
"We'll see. But if they told us this is where it would be, I think it will work," she replied, holstering her pistol.
We continued the drive back, with the sun starting to slowly set down across the sky signalling us that the day was now slowly coming to an end.
After two hours, we pulled up back to Nellis Air Base Fence, the guards ready to greet and open the gate for us. We drove on in and parked the jeep near the hanger. Elizabeth unloaded the crate and put it on a nearby table. Then we both grabbed some crowbars to open the top of it off to see the coil of Copper being laid before us, wrapped in some kind of plastic to preserve it after all this time.
"Hmm," she said.
"What? Will this work," I asked.
"I think I could use the old Heat sink with this copper to help disperse the heat and it could work. Least till we find a longer, more stable term solution."
I set the crowbar down, "Stable? How unstable is this going to be?
Elizabeth set hers down, "Not like it's going to kill us in a few uses, but longer term, I feel it's going to need to be addressed."
"Alright. Let's give it a shot then. I'll get the welder and tools."
I walked over to the corner of the hanger where I grabbed the welder and some tools to help in reconstructing the Heat Sink. Once I brought it back, we wasted no time in getting to work on reconstructing it. It took a few hours, but we were able to get everything hooked up and restructured to support what we were going to attempt. We won't know until we turn it on this time, but Elizabeth hurrying along and working on things with such delicate precision, tells me she's confident in making this work. As for me, I'm just keeping my expectations in check. Been down that road before, don't want to get too burned out yet.
After all the work we had put in was done, I took a look to my right and saw the sun had gone down much much more than it had before, signaling nightfall was right around the corner.
"OK. Let's get this started up again. Everything's ready," I hear Elizabeth exclaim.
"Ready," I shouted back, keeping my fingers crossed.
She turned on the machine, and the same mechanical whirl sound from last time erupted and filled the hanger, letting us know things were going smoothly so far.
Elizabeth ran down to the computer, "Ok, setting the coordinates for D.C."
Once she set the coordinates, the Lutece Device started to vibrate, and a tear started to appear again, but this time, it stayed much longer, and looked so much more stable. I peered inside the tear and could see people shuffling around in there with a few stopping to take a look inside as well.
"Elizabeth, I think we got it working," I commented.
"Well, time for you to go through and see," I heard her say behind me.
Before I could even react, she pushed me right in through the tear, catching me off guard as I stumbled in. Like a sudden flash, I was in the Citadel with a crowd of people gathered to see me enter. I turned around and saw Elizabeth entering just behind me, with her attempt at hiding a smile behind her finger.
"Did you know that I was going to be ok doing something like that," I asked.
Her smile cracked through, "Of course. I wouldn't just shove you through something I didn't think wouldn't have worked. Don't you trust me Evan?"
I shook my head, trying to hide my smile she most definitely saw. I turned my head towards the crowd and saw Elder Lyons and my Father entering through the horde to greet us.
"Well, it looks like it worked, " Lyons remarked.
My Father nodded, "It seems it has. How do you both feel?"
"Well, I'm breathing and I don't feel sick, so that has to mean something right," I replied.
"Yes, Elizabeth?"
She nodded, "Same here. We're going to have to be quick, we don't have much time and power is going to be used fast to keep this open."
"Ok people, let's get to work and get things moving," Elder Lyons announced.
With no time to lose, the crowd dispersed and started to gather equipment of all kinds as well as shout out to other soldiers to get themselves ready. It was like a frenzy of people ready to go as if they were on command to get started. Elizabeth got a bit swarmed over by the crowd and had to step aside away from me to not get trampled on.
I walked towards my Father, "Was everyone just waiting for us to show up? Like they had everything packed up and ready to go?"
He nodded, "In a way. When you radioed us that all you needed was copper to make a new Heat Sink, we all took that as a sign that it was time to start getting ready to move some equipment over. I mean we had everything slowly ready to go as you and Elizabeth gathered all the parts and were assembling it. Time is of the essence if we want to go through with this efficiently."
Can't argue with him there. Guess also Elizabeth was right that things were going to start going at a much faster pace once we got this online. That life was going to start moving much faster. Maybe I should mention to Dad what she and I have talked about. About having a child. If anyone could give me advice, it could be him.
"Anyway, you want to have a quick drink before you need to head back," he asked.
"Yeah. And I…I want to talk to you about something. Something that's been on my mind for a while now," I replied.
He nodded. I followed him through the sea of people, making my way through people running down the stairs with either stuff in their hands, or looking for certain people to talk to. Way too much commotion for me to even be able to pinpoint specifics of what people were doing. Everybody had their own agenda going on at this moment.
We eventually made it to Dad's office, where he took out a bottle that looked like a Whiskey bottle, but I could easily tell it wasn't Whisky in there. It looked like it was just maybe Nuka Cola that filled the bottle?
"What sort of drink is that," I asked.
He took out two glasses and poured each of us a shot, "It's just some Nuka Cola mixed with Davis's idea of Whiskey. Davis is one of the scientist's I work with and his idea of Whiskey isn't true Whiskey, but rather an…interesting blend. Give it a taste."
I took a sip and immediately I felt the drink kick into my lungs, burning them slightly to elicit a cough out of me.
I covered my mouth, "Holy shit what is that?"
He smiled, "That is Davis's creation. Isn't it something?"
"Yeah it sure is," I replied, setting the drink on the desk.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about," he asked.
I took a moment, trying to find a way to word things to him. Once the words came to me, I took a breath, "A few months ago, Elizabeth told me she…she wants to have a child. And it's been eating at me since. She told me why. She appreciates Sally and what she's been to both of us, but she wants something more. Something blood related and she wants to do this before things get too chaotic and crazy. I'm…I'm not against the idea, but at the same time I don't know if I want to bring a child into this world. I know we are on the path to something normal and safer, but I just still feel like we need more time and I'm just conflicted on what to do. "
My Father took another sip of his drink, "That is… a lot to take in. I wish I could give a clear answer, but I can understand your position. When your mother and I had talked about having a child, it shocked me a bit. I even myself remember being conflicted about the idea of having a child especially much like you. The notion of bringing a child into this world made me shudder to think about. How would we even be able to take care of a child if things went wrong? Would we survive? We both had chalked it up to trusting the Lord if that came to be. But what sparked us to finally do it, was… giving something us to fight for beyond ourselves. To give us a reason to strive more for a better world even with the likes of Project Purity. When you were born and the time I spent raising you, I felt I was not only becoming a better person, but I was contributing to that better world and that I wanted nothing more than the best for you, even if it was, at the time, you staying in the vault while I continued Project Purity. And that could not be far from the truth now. And with you being conflicted over the same thing I am, tells me that it did work out well in the end.I hope that makes some sense to you?
It does in a way, what he's saying. On the one hand he has a point in that it helped him strive further to want to create a better world for me to live in and I feel everything that I have gone through in the last year has led to that point. And I would say it would be even more beneficial because Elizabeth would finally have someone blood related to live for. Just like I would have someone to live for. I could strive for that better world that we are creating right now with not only the Lutece Device, but with the further continuation of Project Purity. I think this is starting to make a bit more sense to me and I felt a small, tucked away part of me that was excited? Happy? I'm not entirely sure what it is, but it feels good to me.
I took another sip from my drink, feeling the familiar burning sensation as before, "I don't know what else to say, but I understand what you're telling me. I think. "
My Father took another drink, "That's good to hear. And I am really glad that you found someone like Elizabeth who wants to do something like this. She really does remind me of your mother in a few ways. From her kindness to her workaholic nature sometimes and I'm sure your mother would say the same thing. Despite her rough exterior sometimes, she still has some of the youthful energy that more people I feel should have, especially now given how bright our future looks."
Can't argue with him about the workaholic part. She really at times does get too into her work. Just waiting for the moment again to find her passed out with papers all over her. It would give me something to tease about her again.
I finished my drink, coughing briefly, "Well, I'm going to go find her and see how much time we have before we need to go. I don't think that tear is going to last much longer."
"Of course, one more thing Evan. Regardless of what happens in your life, there's always a solution, even in the darkest of moments in life. You're going to have moments like that even with a child. Just stay strong and firm in those moments. They will remember it and it will reflect on them. And I know you remember a few of those moments with me."
He's right. When he left the vault all those years ago, it did reflect on me. For better or worse in many ways. But it's how I'm here now. Paving the way to the future of the world and getting back to a feeling of normality whatever that may be.
"I'll remember it. Thanks Dad. I'll talk to you later," I replied, giving him a hug before making my way back downstairs.
As I walked down stairs, I saw that the commotion from earlier only died down slightly. There were still people getting things brought in and wanting to observe the tear just a little bit longer. I scanned around, trying to find Elizabeth in the sea of people here for at least a few minutes before I could see her, most likely looking for me. Once I did, I made my way through the horde of people to reach her.
"There you are," she remarked, "We gotta get going soon."
"Is the tear becoming unstable," I asked.
She shook her head, "It's more like it doesn't have much power left. We need to get back and regroup."
"Ok, let's go. This crowd is starting to make me claustrophobic."
We scurried along in the crowd and entered the Tear. In a flash, we were back to the Nellis Hanger with nightfall nearly upon us now with only the orange and red of the sunset peering over the horizon. I took a good look around and saw that already some Brotherhood members were unpacking and moving equipment around, wasting no time in getting things going. Nice to see the test had worked and there weren't any horrible side effects. But I trust Elizabeth enough to know she wouldn't have done all this, or even shove me through the Tear first, if she didn't believe it would work with little issues. Hearing myself just say that, makes me think about what my Father said earlier, about becoming a better person. I guess learning to trust people again might fall into the category. Maybe…maybe I should open up more and trust her more. And now I have a clear idea how.
I shook my head out of the trance I was in and turned to face Elizabeth, her blue eyes subtly glowing from the sunset as she stared at me.
"They really are picking up the pace," she said, "It won't be much longer till we get this Lutece Device more refined. It'll take some work, but pretty soon we'll be able to go nearly anywhere, provided it isn't too toxic, irradiated, or has some other problem."
I nodded, "Yeah. Then who knows what will happen?"
We both were silent for a minute before Elizabeth spoke up, "I can tell somethings on your mind. You got that look again."
I shook my head, not even trying to deny what she said,"Yeah, just something my Dad was telling me earlier."
"About?"
I took a breath, "About…about wanting a child. I think maybe…maybe you're right. "
Her eyes lightened up, "Really? What made you finally decide?"
"My Father was in a similar boat, when he and my mother were deciding to have a child. Even down to the similar questions I had. What made him finally decide to do it, was about finding something to fight for beyond themselves. Project Purity was a part of it, but having me made them only want to double down and do it more. For my future. It may have not played out exactly like how he had imagined it, since he wanted me to stay in the Vault until Project Purity, but in the end I did get Project Purity setup before I left. So, if he could do it in more bad times, maybe…maybe I could do it where were going into better times."
The light in Elizabeth's eyes only started to grow more bright after what I just said, encouraging her to bring me in for a kiss.
She pulls away, "Let's get home then, we can worry about the rest of this tomorrow."
I got our stuff together and loaded the jeep up, ready for us to head back to the Lucky 38. I started the jeep up, drove to the entrance, waited for the Guards to let us out, and then off we were to the Strip. It wouldn't take us too long, especially with us driving compared to walking. It only took us about 15 minutes to reach the Gate entrance and for Victor to let us in.
"Howdy Pardner, how did everything go," he asked me in his usual giddy tone.
"Good. It was a success I would say," I replied, getting my stuff out of the back.
"Well that's good to hear. Glad your efforts with the Brotherhood are doing well. Let me know if you need anything," he replied.
Been trying to not tell Mr. House too much just yet. Wanted to make sure we didn't set expectations too high or tell him info he shouldn't know just yet. But with how the Lutece Device ran today, it's going to be a point of contention to talk to him about it.
We got into the elevator and I felt Elizabeth's hand slip into mine, grasping it tightly.
"I'll make Dinner if you want to play with Sally since I know she's going to be very excited when we are back."
I nodded, "Yeah. Are you ready for her to greet us?"
"I am," she replied, bracing herself.
Once the elevator hit its floor and dinged, I could easily hear the scratching of Sally's paws at the door, eagerly waiting for us. Once they opened, she jumped at us in her not a puppy, but almost adult dog form.
"Hi Sally, " I said, reaching down to pet her, "Did you miss us?"
She barked her response immediately while jumping away and running towards her favorite rope tug of war toy she keeps on her bed to show me. Guess it's time for another few rounds of Tug of War with her.
I sat my stuff aside and grabbed my end of the rope toy, pulling on it as hard as I could while she pulled her end. She tried desperately to hold on, shaking her head back and forth in an attempt to make me lose my grip. Sometimes she would win, other times I would. But we would go back and forth for minutes on end, until my arms started to get sore. I swear, even after all this time, I have never seen an animal with so much energy. You'd think after a few months she would have slowed down a bit, but I guess not. Eventually, Elizabeth called me for Dinner, gracing my arms rest.
I walked to the dinner table with Sally walking behind me, eager to eat as well. She gets what we have left over since Elizabeth now compensates for all of us when cooking, but just in case we want some more food if we are a bit hungrier than usual. Sally laid down, giving me her puppy eyes in her attempt to guilt trip me into giving her food sooner. Most of the time, it doesn't work.
As I sat down and took in the aroma, I could smell the fragrant smell of a mac and cheese, vegetable, and meat casserole as she likes to call it. It's honestly my favorite thing she makes. I'm not sure if it's the carrots, corn, peas, the Brahmin steak bits, or just the spices that make it taste so good. It's always a treat to make since macaroni can be a pain to find sometimes.
The two of us wasted no time in digging in and finishing our food quickly. Once we were done, I then cleaned up the mess and made a plate for Sally, while Elizabeth went to go take a shower and get herself ready for bed. Then once everything was cleaned, we rotated where I went to take a shower and she entertained Sally for a bit. Once I got out of the shower, I put my Pajamas on, and exited the bathroom. As I did, I took notice of Elizabeth just wearing her blue striped underwear, sitting on the floor petting Sally. I could feel the familiar part of me eyeing her like crazy, before sitting down right next to her.
"Is Sally getting tuckered out finally," I asked.
"I think so. Having a full stomach and playing with you earlier I think finally did a toll on her," she replied.
I reached over to pet her as well, and I could feel her slow breaths from her furr telling me she was either asleep or about to be asleep soon.
"I guess she is. Are you tired," I asked.
"Not entirely, I got something keeping me awake for right now," she answered.
"Same here. What's keeping you awake?"
Elizabeth smiled, "Well, with her finally asleep, let's talk."
She grabbed my hand, standing us up as she guided us to our room.
We walked in and I closed the door behind us, quietly while she sat on the bed, her smile turning into a subtle frown.
She sighed, "Evan, there's something I just remembered and realized, when we came back from D.C, that's starting to scare me."
"Oh, what is it?"
She tucked some hair behind her ear, "So, when Comstock went through the Lutece Device multiple times over the years, it made him sterile, unable to have children. I'm..i'm scared that with how much I used my own tears, I…I could be sterile as well. I mean if I was, I would know by now right? I still get my cycles, so that must mean I'm fine right? Right?"
I don't know how to answer that. I don't know much about female anatomy besides the few things Elizabeth has told me and what little I can remember learning in the Vault. So I can't really speak much about that.
"I…I don't know. I'm not really knowledgeable about that kind of stuff," I answered.
"I know. It's just been picking away at my mind all night and I…I'm scared to find out," she said, a tear in her eye.
I sat next to her, "I think the only way we'll know is, if we find out. If it's true, then there has to be a solution. If it's not, then we should be good right? It takes how long to find out if you are pregnant?"
"About a week, give or take," she replied, wiping her tears.
"Well, then let's worry about it in a week when we decide to do it. It doesn't have to be tonight if you don't want it to be."
She paused for a minute, looking at the ground, fidgeting with her pinky again, before looking back up and meeting my gaze.
"No. I…I can't hold this back anymore with you. I've waited long enough," she said, sitting on my lap and wrapping her arms around my neck.
She then leaned in and whispered in my ear, "I want you inside of me now, regardless of what happens afterwards."
I felt a jolt of energy shoot through me as I felt myself leaning in to kiss her, our lips moving in sync with each other as we always have. After a minute, she got off me and started taking her bra and her panties off, showing me in her most vulnerable form. I caught myself eyeing every single curve and crevice in her body, admiring the beauty of what I was being presented with, before my eyes went back to her gaze after a minute. She looked puzzled, "Aren't you going to look some more?"
I stuttered, "I…I've more than seen enough. I just…I just want to look at you more than your body."
A smile grew on her face, with subtle tears showing in her eyes yet again, "We'll come over here for a closer look then."
I did as she commended, putting my arms around her and picking her up in my arms, bringing her to bed, before I felt a part of me take control of me. I have a feeling I know what this is. It's the primal side in me, or rather, in all of us that is there, buried by the more civilized side we use day to day.
I sat her down on the bed as I took my pajamas off, putting myself in my own vulnerable form. I then got on top of her, pushing my lips on her more, hearing subtle moans coming from her before moving my lips to her neck, as I pushed her down on the bed. Her moans then only got louder with my own moans becoming thrown in the mix. Once again, the primal side of me started to take over as I felt my pelvis get into position to hers, as if naturally it knew what to do next. At that moment, I started to thrust. Elizabeth moans only got louder as I soon followed again, as if I was singing a duet with her. All I could feel the next few moments was a burst of energy with excitement, lust, passion, and most importantly, love. Something I never had felt before that felt more magical than anything I had experienced before. I love you Elizabeth. More than I could ever say or express. I don't know how long we were in the position we were in, but I could be here all night if I had to just to keep feeling this.
Eventually, I felt Elizabeth gently guide me to my side as we got under the covers, both of us out of breath as we looked at the ceiling.
"That… that was…I don't have the words Evan," she answered, still grasping for breath.
"Neither…neither do I," I replied, struggling to finish that sentence.
After a minute of us catching our breath, I felt the urge to speak.
"I…I love you Elizabeth. I know…I know I've said it before, but this…this time. I really…really…really fucking do. And that's…that's all I can say. Thank you…for coming into my life."
She put her hand on my chest, "I love you too. Thank…thank you for bringing me back…back to life once more," she replied.
We both turned to look at each other, before embracing each other, as we got ready to drift off to sleep.
"Oh, by the way," I heard Elizabeth say, "Happy Birthday Evan."
Apologize for not posting this last night. I did not realize just how, in a way, taxing writing that sex scene was going to be. Once I was done, I had to do some thinking. Anyway, hope you enjoyed it since I know many of you were waiting, how long for it?
