Once they get to the medical building madam Wang shouts for Tanlang, who comes rushing out from the back not a second later. One look at Wanning his face pales.
Tanlang leads them to a room to set Wanning down, who goes into another fit of vomiting blood.
Mo Ran can only stare at Wanning, heart rate going through the roof at the sight of pure white Wanning getting stained with red. With blood. Flashes of deep red on steps. Wanning on a bed of flowers. Wanning in a pond surrounded by flowers. Both times he's so still but serene, as he's never been when alive. As if Wanning had the whole world on his shoulders. Cold. Frost tipped lashes. Puffy scars that can never heal.
Mo Ran feels like he's drowning, not able to think, see or hear properly as Tanlang, Shi Mei and auntie all work together to get Wanning to stop spilling blood. They are all shouting over each other as disciples come rushing in and out.
Mo Ran can only keep his eyes on Wanning. He was alive. Just a minute ago he was breathing, eating, stuffing his face till they puff a bit like a squirrel. They were talking, walking side by side. It was all good.
Everything was fine.
Wanning is alive.
Mo Ran lets out a breath, leaning forward on his elbow staring at his dinner. He's at Mengpo hall, sitting by himself as he was kicked out from the room for just standing like a bumbling idiot (Tanlang words not his) and being in the way with nothing useful to help them with.
He's been here for a few hours now, food gone cold waiting for any news. What the hell even happened? Mo Ran feels his right leg bouncing impatiently. He wants to storm into the room to make sure Wanning is alive. He knows Wanning is, like auntie would let him down. Or Shi Mei.
Now that he has time, he never thought he'd see Shi Mei be so... manly. He almost didn't seem like the same person. To everyone (not just Mo Ran) Shi Mei is a fragile beauty. He needs help with heavy lifting, he needs to be protected, and he can't be left to the world's horrors. No one ever minds as their Shi Mei is kind, always gracing others with a smile. Shining like the sun. A maiden.
But with the way his face focus and he stood with Wanning in his arms he looked... manly. Like he didn't need to be protected because he'll do the protecting. His shoulders seem wider than ever.
On the other hand Wanning seem just as fragile and small. Wanning truly needs to be protected. No one would agree with Mo Ran on that. But the way he looked in Shi Mei arms... he look so small. It doesn't help that as a man Wanning wasn't a small person but now... as a woman. Wanning is so tiny and delicate.
Except maybe one.
Like a storm his cousin rushes in, frazzled as he looks around. Stopping when he spots his cousin. He rushes over sitting down without asking. Mo Ran just watch him silently. Can hear his heavy breathing. Must have ran here, but from where? "I... I heard, what happen to shizun? I wasn't let in the room." He says in between breaths, face worried but also pouty.
"Join the club I got got kicked out too." Mo Ran says joining his cousin in pouting.
"What happened? There's blood all over the table?" He asks again. Worry evident on his face. He must have run here from the room they were eating at.
"We were eating then shizun started vomiting blood. We rushed to Tanlang but they've been at it for hours now." Mo Ran says looking at his half empty bowl.
"Hope shizun is okay." Xue Meng says head down.
"I'm sure, auntie and Shi Mei are working with Tanlang elder." Mo Ran says, though, he's just as worried. His own words doing nothing to sooth his racing heart.
After they both eat they decide to wait.
Both sitting as people come in and out of the building. Many are Tanlang disciples, either going home for the night are coming in for their shift. But they don't spot any of the three (Shi Mei, Chuqing, and Tanlang).
Without realizing it the two fall asleep waiting. Mo Ran sat with his arms crossed over his chest, head hanging low. Xue Meng sat leaning against his cousin, head on his cousins shoulder. A hand shaking their shoulders wakes them up with a quick start, both looking around for danger. The disciple holding both hands up while taking a step back. Mo Ran blinks, looking around. Xue Meng wipes his mouth feeling he drooled as he takes a look around too. Mo Ran watches the disciple, he recognize as the disciple who was here when Wanning and he were here earlier. He gives them both a smile.
"You both are welcome in Yuheng elders room." He announces. Both stand up and rush to the room. Opening the room they are welcomed by Shi Mei and auntie cleaning. Rags with blood, wash basins filled with bloody water. The room is very well lit, Mo Ran looks out the window to see the sun shining. When they got here it was dark. They slept the night.
"Ran-er and Meng-er," Chuqing calls them with a smile, "not to loud." She warns them, voice low.
"I'm taking my leave, I can take that." Shi Mei says taking the basin from Chuqing hands. She blinks, a bit surprised but she gives him a smile.
"Thank you." She says closing the door after him. Mo Ran and Xue Meng walking to the bed Wanning is sleeping in.
"How is shizun?" Xue Meng asks. Wanning looks a bit pale but alive. And of course they wouldn't have been let in if it wasn't okay to do so.
"Sleeping but out of danger."
"What happened?" Mo Ran asks, hands twitching at his side as he wants to so badly take hold of Wanning hands. To touch him, just to make sure he is warm and not cold. To feel he's alive.
"From what we discussed it was the medicine Tanlang gave to Yuheng. It would seem... his body didn't like it and forcefully expelled it. But rather than throw it up it came out bloody. So Yuheng is going to have to eat lighter foods. All of this disrupted his stomach. Until he wakes up no noise." Chuqing tells them. The two nod both standing by Wanning side as he rests. Chuqing leaves the room tired from working hard all night.
The weight on Mo Ran shoulder feels lighter, but not by much. He would have liked if this never happened at all. He's just glad they got him help before it got worse.
