Chapter Three: Setting Up Shop

The Ed's set up a space in Double D's garage. So far, they had a little desk so he could answer the phones, a table for the equipment, and a containment system to store the ghosts. "This is perfect!" Eddy said with a grin. "The Ghostbusters are almost set up for business!" he finished.

Double D grunted carrying a box of equipment and groaned. "It would go a lot faster if I had help!" he grunted. Eddy looked at him and rolled his eyes.

"Ed, help Double D," Eddy stated with a shrug. Double D sighed as Ed grabbed a box. "Ok, so we got the desk, the equipment and of course the containment...thing..." Eddy trailed off. "But we still need a logo. Double D! Sketch up some ideas, would ya?" he asked nonchalantly.

"Oh sure, why not? I'll draw up a logo, carry the boxes and do ALL of the work while you sit there looking cool!" Double D said angrily.

"Yeah, see?" Eddy said with a smile. "You're getting the hang of it!" he announced. Double D sputtered and jaw dropped in shock. Eddy was making him do all of the work and just hanging around doing nothing. Before Double D could say anything, the phone rang. "Double D, get that will ya?"

Double D muttered an unkind phrase and answered the phone. "Hello? Ghostbusters," Double D began while holding the receiver to his ear. Upon hearing a woman's voice, he sighed. "Eddy, it's your mother. She's asking what you want for dinner-" before Double D could say anything else, Eddy grabbed the phone and began speaking into it requesting Italian food. Spaghetti mostly. Double D rolled his eyes.

"Can I answer the phone's Double D?" Ed begged. Double D simply shook his head. "Aww..." Ed replied dejectedly. He wanted to help, but no one was giving him a chance. He hoped they would eventually ask him to handle the important stuff. Realistically, Ed would make a mistake, but Double D and especially Eddy, wanted to make the business perfect. There could be no errors, especially dealing with the supernatural. One mistake and all heck would break loose.

Another phone rang and Double D answered it. "Hello? What is it, Kevin?" he demanded, though he could already tell where this was going. "Yes, yes, we ARE dorks. But we're dorks with a job to do. Thank you, goodbye." Double D pinched the bridge of his nose. Two phone calls and no job. One from a parent, and one from a mean neighborhood kid.

Ed sipped some water and sighed. "The first day is always hard Double D," he said wisely earning a jaw drop from Double D. "Don't give up hope Double D, we'll get a job." Double D smiled at Ed's momentary wisdom and nodded happily.

"So, who was on the phone?" Eddy asked.

"Kevin, telling us we're dorks as usual."

"Figures," Eddy replied with a sigh. Kevin was always a jerk to the three Ed's. He called them dorks, beat them up over scams and treated them like they weren't people.

Ed sipped his water and sighed. Despite his aloofness and goofy behavior, he knew about the bullying. He chose to smile and be as nice as he could. That's what his father taught him.

The phone rang a third time. Double D picked it up with a sigh. "Ghostbusters, how may we be of assistance?" he asked barely hiding his frustration. If all these calls were going to be random or insulting, then there would be hardly any business at all. But before he could ponder this further, a scared, timid voice spoke.

"Hello. My name is Jimmy. I have a terrible ghost problem," he said afraid. Double D gasped and looked to his friends. He needed to tell them.

"Guys!" he whispered earning Ed and Eddy's attention. "I think we got one!" he quietly cheered. Eddy gave a fist bump in excitement while Ed smiled. Turning back to the phone, Double D asked the obvious question. "What kind of ghost problem do you have?"

"My teddy bear! One minute, I'm having tea, the next...he picked up a knife and tried to hurt me!" he sobbed. Double D jaw dropped. It wasn't just any old ghost at all. It was a possession! Jimmy continued. "I'm hiding in my room with the door locked. Please save me!" he cried.

"Don't worry," Double D replied urgently. "We'll be there in five minutes. But whatever you do, do NOT open the door unless it's us! Can you do that Jimmy?" he practically demanded.

"Yes Double D. I can. But please hurry!" he pleaded before hanging up the phone.

Double D smiled as he turned to the Ed's. "Alright guys, we got one!" he cheered.

"So, what is it?" Eddy asked with a cocky grin. Double D sighed. It was going to sound ridiculous...even to their standards.

"It's a possession. Possibly class 5. Worst of all, it's possessed Jimmy's teddy bear. If we don't hurry Jimmy could be hurt. Or worse," he added in fear. He expected a laugh, or even a form of ridicule. However, what happened next, caught Double D off guard.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" Eddy asked rhetorically. "We gotta save Jimmy!" he announced getting dressed in his jumpsuit and grabbing his Proton Pack. Double D nodded doing the same. Even Ed could tell the gravity of the situation.
