"Well, that worked out great," Henry sighed as he walked into the room.

"What are you talking about?" Mary asked, raising an eyebrow. "And where were you after the party?"

"I'd rather not talk about it," Henry said, rubbing his forehead. "I don't think we should have gone to that party."

"That party? Are you still sore that Mrs. Rushworth was cold to you?"

"Absolutely not!" Henry exclaimed, then calmed down a moment. "Has Fanny replied to your offer?"

"She refused, but-"

A footman interrupted.

"Mr. Crawford, there is a Mrs. Rushworth here."
