As the skies of the Digital World were consumed by dark and ominous clouds, a single Digimon raced through the forests below, expressing a growing sense of panic as she fled for her life.

Racing upon all fours and scared to look back, the Digimon resembled a small white cat which had two yellow gloves over her front paws and a growing concern within her shining azure eyes.

Rushing further through the wilderness, the feline's striped tail swayed around, causing the golden ring set upon the end to also swing from side to side, but to never leave her possession.

The Digimon once stood against the forces of evil, but now she felt powerless against the evil that was quickly taking over the Digital World.

This was the Digimon of Light, Gatomon, who worked alongside the other Chosen Digimon and their Digidestined partners to defeat the evils of the Dark Masters, Apoclymon and Myotismon over four years ago, her heroic heroics and bravery saving both the Digital World and the Real World from complete destruction.

With balance restored to both worlds, the gateway connecting the worlds was closed off, but now Gatomon silently prayed to see her friends once again, to gain her help and to stop the darkness now pursuing her.

After the Digital World had reformed itself after its twisted transformation into Spiral Mountain, something long forgotten within the Digital World seemed to have awakened, or perhaps it had been set loose, as an ancient and powerful darkness now gripped the world and threatened all.

Legions of dark Digimon, such as Devidramon, SoundBirdmon, Vilemon and soldier-like Digimon known as Troopmon, began marching across the Digital World, this dark army crushing or capturing any Digimon who stood in their way, while a darkness seemed to keep to infect and drive other innocent Digimon into feral states, or drive them to carry their own wicked ends.

Furthermore, and much to Gatomon's frustration, gargantuan black marble spires seemed to show up almost everywhere the dark legions seemed to have taken over, weakening those who stood up against the growing darkness while empowering those who faithfully served it.

Rushing through the forest, Gatomon did her best to ignore the empathetic pain she felt towards the various Digimon being infected by the dark aura, their eyes glowing an ominous red as they either left the forest to join the legions, or sought out others to claim for the dark power they now served.

Despite her strength, agility and cunning, Gatomon knew she couldn't fight against this evil, not on her own, and thus she was run, heading to the one safe place she could think of, one she knew the other Chosen Digimon would most likely use as a safe haven, and a place where they could finally discuss a way to stop this growing evil from consuming their world.

It was then Gatomon heard a loud and terrible roar above her, the wicked bellowing forcing Gatomon to act with her feline agility and to jump aside just as a trio of Devidramon came swooping down from the skies.

Surrounding the feline Digimon, the demonic Digimon snarled toward their prey as the trio proceeded to capture her.

Refusing to give up so easily and fighting back, Gatomon rushed toward the nearest of her enemies with a fiery determination.

"Lightning Kick!" She exclaimed as she leapt up and kicked the Devidramon in the face, the powerful blow sending the beast stumbling back and crashing through several trees, before the beast regained its footing and returned to the dark skies.

Sensing danger behind her, Gatomon quickly jumped to her right as another of the other Devidramon lunged at her, the feline Digimon sliding through the dark Digimon's claw-like fingers before he could grab her.

However and much to her dismay, Gatomon could only watch on as the Devidramon's claws just managed to grasp her tail ring, stealing the precious object from off her tail, before the Digimon of Light tumbled to the ground below.

Struggling to get up and feeling greatly drained, as though much of her strength and energy had just been stripped from her, and Gatomon knew that without her tail ring she was no stronger than a Rookie Level Digimon.

Glaring helpless, Gatomon couldn't do anything but to watch as the second Devidramon retreated, her tail ring clenched within his claws as the beast took the source of her strength within his claws with its retreat.

Hearing another feral snarl and forced to remain on her toes, the Digimon of Light ahead to see the last Devidramon looking down upon her, its red eyes glaring at her as it opened its mouth and gathered energy within its maw for an attack to end her existence.

Despite her lack of energy and getting to her feet, Gatomon prepared herself for what she believed could be her final fight, a battle she wasn't sure she could win, but one she would not back down from.

'Kari...' Gatomon thought to herself as her foe prepared to attack, the Digimon of Light mentally wishing she could have seen her partner one more time, and in brighter circumstances.

"Pepper Breath!"

"Boom Bubble!"

Toward the sudden and loud declaration from a pair of familiar voices, surprise filled Gatomon as she saw a small blast of fire and of air slamming into the left side of the Devidramon's face, the attacks appearing to have startled the beast and caused the Devidramon to fall over.

Relieved, Gatomon quickly turned her attention upon her saviours, to see the Digimon of Courage, Agumon, and the Digimon of Hope, Patamon, now rushing toward her.

Appreciative toward Agumon and Patamon's assistance, Gatomon's eyes widened further when she took notice of two other figures rushing toward her, two very familiar figures.

The first was a human boy with spiky brown hair, one with a familiar pair of goggles on his head that brought a smile to Gatomon's face, while the second looked like an older human which reminded the feline Digimon of a younger version of an old friend.

"Tai, Gennai!" She called with joy.

To the sight of the Digidestined of Courage, Gatomon was filled with happiness as she knew that with Tai's appearance, the gate to the Real World had been opened once again, and that too meant there was a great possibility she would see Kari once again.

"Gatomon, are you alright?!" Tai Kamiya, the Digidestined of Courage questioned.

Remaining concerned for Gatomon, Tai gently scooped the drained Digimon into his arms, while Agumon and Patamon remained close by, staying in defensive positions as they remained defiant against the remaining Devidramon as it snarled at the group.

"I'm fine, but they took my tail ring." Gatomon explained as she looked back at the Devidramon, who looked ready to attack at any moment.

"Tai, we need to act now!" Agumon then called out as he glared upon the demonic Digimon, his words receiving a confirming nod from the Digidestined of Courage.

Keeping a protective hold over Gatomon but managing to reach within his pants pocket, Tai then retrieved his Digivice.

Holding the device out and keeping his mind focused, Tai braced himself so Agumon could Digivolve into Greymon.

"Agumon, Digivolve to...!" The Digimon of Courage declared as he held his arms out and allowed the combined energies of the Digivice and his partner to fuel his being.

Expecting to Digivolve into his Champion form and to then lay waste to the Devidramon, Agumon and those around him gained deep expressions of shock and confusion as nothing happened and Agumon found himself locked within his Rookie level form.

"Something is preventing him from Digivolving!" Gennai told Tai, his tone of great concern, especially when he and the others looked to see the Devidramon growing vicious.

"We need to leave, hurry!" The Digital Human called with a tone of concern, ushering Tai and the Digimon to quickly follow him as the Devidramon flapped its wings and gave chase.

As Tai held onto Gatomon, while Patamon and Agumon flew and ran alongside them respectively, the older of the Kamiya siblings quickly drew out his cellphone and typed in a quick text message, one he hoped would reach its recipient and that help would arrive soon.

There was something horribly wrong within the Digital World, and Tai wasn't sure if he or his friends would be able to save it this time on their own.

Back within the Real World, a young boy with blue eyes, blond hair and a white hat was preparing himself for his first day at a new school.

Divided between excitement and nervousness, the young boy remained curious as to how his first day at Odaiba High would progress.

This boy was the Digidestined of Hope, TK Takaishi, who finally, and four years after his adventures in the Digital World, had returned to Odaiba thanks to his mother, who had found a job back in their old home town.

Though it still hurt the young Digidestined that his family wasn't back together, TK still felt relief that he was at least able to spend a little more time with his older brother and father.

"TK, you're going to be late." His mother, Nancy then called from out the kitchen as she looked to see her son finish putting his shoes on by the door.

"I know. I'll see you later, mom!" The Digidestined of Hope called in reply as he put his backpack around his shoulders and left.

Keeping a bright smile upon his face, TK thought of another of the other main reasons he was excited about starting his first day of classes as he knew Kari would be attending the same classes, allowing them to bond further as friends.

Approaching the elevator and getting in, TK was startled as a loud feminine voice cried in desperation. "Wait! Hold the door!"

Quickly turning around, TK moved to the side and barely missed being collided with by a girl with long purple hair, brown eyes and glasses as she boarded the elevator.

Now inside, the purple haired girl panted a little, expressing a relief she had made it before the doors had closed on her face.

"Thanks. Can't be late today..." The girl said as she caught her breath, before she looked over TK and added with a kind smile. "My name's Yolei by the way. Yolei Inoue."

"I'm TK Takashi. It's nice to meet you." TK replied with a kind smile as he was glad to have met one of his newer neighbours.

"Quick question, do I look cute in this outfit?" Yolei then asked as she struck a somewhat suggestive pose, the question throwing TK off guard.

Seeing the puzzled expression on the boy's face and knowing she had to clarify, Yolei explained to TK. "Sorry about that. There's this boy in my class who I am trying to impress this year. I'm hoping to win him over as my boyfriend."

'Um... ok." TK just said in reply.

Sweat dropping a little toward Yolei's show of affections, the Digidestined of Hope found himself wondering just how crazy this school year would be, a question he'd soon find out, and one he wished would never have been answered.

.

Arriving at school and parting ways with Yolei, an action that filled TK with relief as the purple haired girl continued to rant about her mysterious crush, the blond haired Digidestined took a moment to look around the school, even taking in the sight of the soccer field, which brought a smile to TK's face.

Although basketball was more his level, TK enjoyed the thrill of most sports.

"Watch out!" A loud voice then called in warning.

To the sudden call, TK turned to the source of the noise, to see a soccer ball now coming straight for his face.

However, and before any harm occurred, the Digidestined of Hope's instincts kicked in as he quickly brought his hands up and caught the ball.

Lowering the ball and looking back to the soccer field, TK looked to see a boy his age now approaching him.

Looking the boy over, the Digidestined of Hope noticed the boy had spiky maroon coloured hair, brown eyes and a pair of goggles upon the boy's head, which briefly reminded TK of Tai Kamiya's.

Keeping an eye upon the maroon haired boy and seeing him taking a moment to converse with one of the younger students, the boy then said. "Kenji, try and remember to aim where you want the ball to go. It isn't all about forcing all your energy into the kick."

"Sorry about that, Davis." The young boy said apologetically.

Looking behind the maroon haired boy, and to see several younger kids, alongside several other students the Digidestined of Hope realized were members of the school's soccer team, TK then figured that this Davis kid and his teammates were just showing the younger kids how to play soccer.

Turning back to face TK, Davis smiled and told the blond with a growing honesty in his tone of voice. "That was a nice catch. Ever thought about trying out for the team? You'd probably make a great goalie."

Smiling back at Davis' kind offer, TK passed the ball back and said with an honest tone of his own. "Thanks, but I'm more of a basketball guy."

"Suit yourself." Davis casually replied.

Putting the ball under his left arm and extending his right hand out, Davis then said with a continued friendliness within his voice. "I'm Davis Motomiya, by the way, and welcome. First day, I take it?"

"Yeah, I'm TK." The Digidestined of Hope replied as he took Davis' hand and shook it.

Though TK felt he was getting along with Davis, the blonde made a mental note to the way the maroon haired boy's eyebrow raised with interest upon hearing his name.

"Well, I hope you enjoy it here, TK. I'm sure we'll have similar classes together, so I'll see you around. And if you ever change your mind about joining the team, just ask." Davis remarked with a continued smile, before he turned around and began to walk back toward the gathered kids and soccer players.

"Alright guys, classes start in a few minutes, so let's wrap things up and we can continue again tomorrow." Davis told the students, where the younger kids all cheered and thanked the maroon haired boy for his tips, tricks and lessons.

Smiling to the enthusiasm of the younger kids and to the way they looked up to Davis, confusion consumed TK when he heard a dozen sighs.

Turning, TK took notice of a handful of female students, all with dreamy expressions upon their faces as they all focused upon the maroon haired boy with a shared adoration.

"He's so good with kids, and so dedicated..." One of the girls said as she kept her eyes upon Davis, her words causing the other girls to sigh once again and to agree with their colleague.

Blinking his eyes as he realized he might have met the school's heartthrob, TK just shook his head and proceeded through Odiaba High's front doors.

Looking forward to his day, TK remained excited to meet up with a certain brown haired girl he hadn't seen in a long time.

.

Sometime later and seated at her desk within one of the classrooms, a young girl with short brown hair and matching eyes was preparing herself for her first class and for another school year.

The young girl was none other than the Digidestined of Light and Tai's younger sister, Kari Kamiya.

In the four years since her adventures in the Digital World, much had changed for the young Kamiya, with her health problems now a thing of the past.

Along with her improved health, Kari's body had matured to the point that the brunette often found herself surrounded by many admirers who wanted her attention.

But remaining as her usual kind, caring and sweet self, Kari usually brushed these displays of affection away, for the Digidestined of Light found her focus namely on her school work, her friends and one certain boy in particular.

"Hey, Kari." A familiar voice then kindly called, one Kari loved hearing.

Looking up from her notebook, the warmth within Kari's smile continued to grow as she saw Davis now standing before her, and with a bright smile of his own.

"Hey yourself, Davis. How was soccer practice with the kids?" The Digidestined of Light as she too loved how the maroon haired boy was so committed to helping others.

"It was great, but I learnt something today that will put a smile on your face." The maroon haired boy told Kari with a further smile on his face as he took his seat a few desks away from Kari's own.

His reply perplexed the brunette, but before she could ask Davis any questions, Kari found her focus back upon the front of the classroom, just as the teacher introduced a new student, which left Kari beaming to see that it was TK.

Smiling as she watched TK taking a seat close to her desk, Kari held her laughter as the Digidestined of Hope whispered to her that their teacher looked like an Ogremon.

Watching from his seat, Davis held a small smile to the way Kari brightened up and listened to TK as he whispered to her, though the maroon haired boy couldn't help but feel a small pain within his heart.

However, that pain quickly vanished as he saw Kari look past TK and upon him, where Davis smiled as he saw the brunette give him one of her rare smiles, one she reserved only for him.

Back within the Digital World, Tai, Agumon, Patamon and Gatomon continued to run behind Gennai as he led the group to safety.

Although she had lost her tail ring, the Digimon of Light felt she was strong enough to run on her own and now proceeded alongside Tai and Agumon, while keeping a sharp eye out for any danger.

Though they had managed to evade and lose the Devidramon that were chasing them, the group knew that there were still other dangers out in the woods now, dangers that would not hesitate to hunt them down if given the opportunity.

Running past the vast array of plantlife, Tai and the Digimon were at first relieved to see Gennai's house, the brunette and Digimon believing that they were now safe and could finally take a moment to breathe.

However, the Digidestined of Courage and his companions found their relief turning into confusion as Gennai continued to run past his home.

Confused by Gennai's actions but trusting their old ally, Tai, Agumon, Gatomon and Patamon quickly ran to catch up with the Digital Human, finding themselves eventually arriving at the entrance of what appeared to be a large cave at the back of Gennai's house.

Seeing Gennai stop at the opening to the cave as if waiting for the others to join him, Tai and the Digimon stopped themselves and took a moment to catch their breaths, just before the Digital Human spoke up and told them. "We should be safe for a little while now."

"Follow me." He then instructed as he withdrew a small torch at the entrance and placed it before Agumon's face.

Getting the idea, the Digimon of Courage exhumed a small breath of flame upon the torch, igniting the wood and allowing light to consume the dark void before them.

Turning, Gennai began to walk further into the cave as Tai and the Digimon quickly followed behind.

As the torch illuminated the cavern's walls and allowing Tai, Agumon, Gatomon and Patamon to examine their surroundings, the group took note of runic drawings etched upon the walls, the images depicting what they believed to be knightley being battling what looked to be several demonic looking figures.

Amongst the demonic beings, it appeared as though they were fighting for what looked to be a gargantuan size two-headed monster, which took up most of the wall as the imagery seemingly depicted a battle from a time long since past.

Amazed by the images, but wishing for some answers, Patamon flew over to Gennai.

"What is this place, Gennai?" The Digimon of Hope questioned as he further looked around the tunnel, before landing upon Tai's head as to take a moment to rest his weary body.

"Honestly, I am uncertain myself." Gennai confessed, his words causing the group to look back at him as he continued to walk ahead.

However, wishing to shed what light he could toward Tai and the Digimon, Gennai told the Digidestined. "Long ago, the Order told me to build my home here and keep guard of this cave, to never enter unless I was told so, and only then under dire circumstances."

"Before I ran into all of you, Homeostasis contacted me and told me it was time, that a hero of old must be awoken." Gennai then informed with a further seriousness within his voice, his words causing Tai and the Digimon to gain expressions of shock, each remembering the being who temporarily took possession of Kari's body as to explain the past of the Digital World to them, or at least some of the past.

Eventually arriving at the end of the caven's tunnel and finding a new room already illuminated by a line of torches, Tai, Gennai, Agumon, Gatomon and Patamon remained surprised to see a stone altar set upon before them, one that looked as if it had not been disturbed for eons.

But what caught the group's attention the most was an object that rested upon the altar.

Looking over the item, Tai was surprised to see that it appeared to be a Digi-Egg quite similar to the ones he had seen tended to back in Primary Village in the past, but unlike those Digi-Eggs, the one resting upon the altar was decorated with red and orange flame designs, while what appeared to be a long bladed implement emerged from the top like a horn.

What seemed to catch Tai's eye the most in regards to this mysterious Digi-Egg was the Crest of Courage, his Crest, which was cast upon the egg's shell.

Looking between the Digimon and Gennai, Tai wasn't sure what this sign could mean, but if Homeostasis believed it could help them against the evil invading the Digital World, then he would give the Digi-Egg a try.

Approaching the Digi-Egg and placing his hands around its sides, the older Kamiya braced himself as he tried to lift the Digi-Egg from off the altar.

However, Tai was taken aback as the Digi-Egg seemed practically glued to the stone altar.

Trying several more times to pry the Digi-Egg from its place, Tai only felt his frustration growing.

Puzzled, the Digidestined of Courage growled in annoyance. "What the hell?! Why can't I lift this thing?!"

As though responding to his frustration, Tai stopped trying to pull the Digi-Egg as he heard a loud beeping sound emit from his pocket, the sound causing the brunette to withdraw his Digivice from out of his pants pocket and to see the screen begin of his Digivice emanating with a faint orange light.

At the same time, the Digi-Egg also began to glow with a similar bright light, the change in its nature startling Tai, Gennai and the Digimon, before three beams of light shot from off of Digi-Egg and out of the cave, the action further confusing the Digidestined of Courage as he wondered what this really meant.

As the school day began to wind down within Odaiba High, Davis made his way into the library, a smile growing on his face when he took notice of Kari and TK sitting at one of the round tables nearby.

Staying silent and observing the pair, it was apparent to Davis that Kari and TK were having a pleasant conversation with one another about their shared past.

While enjoying her conversation with TK and happy to hear everything that had happened to the Digidestined of Hope since they last saw one another, Kari fell silent when she turned her head and noticed the maroon haired boy.

A little worried he was interrupting, but seeing the kind smile upon Kari's face as she beckoned for him to come join them, Davis' own smile only grew as he moved to join the pair, while TK shared in Kari's welcoming nature and smiled to see the boy he met earlier that day now joining them.

"TK, I want you to meet someone very dear to me." Kari told the Digidestined of Hope as she gestured to Davis and said with a bright, almost blinding smile upon her face. "This is my best friend in the whole world, Davis Motomiya."

To Kari's declaration, TK found himself surprised and stumped, having never heard the brunette talk so lively about anyone like this, save her own brother.

And although Kari was just being friendly with her introduction, the blond haired Digidestined felt a small pang of jealousy in regard to the warmth the Digidestined of Light had expressed within her voice as he turned his attention back upon Davis.

Expelling a nervous chuckle to the way the brunette introduced him to others, Davis looked to Kari and felt he had to say something.

"That's a little much of an introduction, don't you think, Kari?" He inquired with a modest smile as he scratched the back of his head sheepishly.

"Well, it's the truth and I'm not going to lie about it." The Digidestined of Light replied with a sly smirk on her face, as though enjoying the way she could make Davis flustered in such a way, this too causing TK to silently laugh.

Sighing a little toward Kari's antics but knowing she meant well, Davis then looked toward TK, a friendly smile upon his face as he told the blond haired boy. "So yeah, continuing from earlier, it's nice to finally meet you, TK. Kari has told me a lot about you."

To Davis' remark, TK felt his eyes widen a little, alongside his nervousness.

After their adventures in the Digital World, the Digidestined had all agreed not to speak to anyone else about the Digimon or of the alternate world they had visited, to keep what they experienced a secret to all but themselves.

"And... what exactly did Kari tell you?" TK found himself questioning, before the Digidestined of Hope then felt himself gulping after he noticed the way Kari seemed to glare at him from the corner of her eyes, as if she believed he was accusing her of doing something wrong.

"She told me that you were there for her when I couldn't be, and for that, I will always be grateful to you." The maroon haired boy replied with a genuine gratitude within his voice, though his vague reply didn't seem to answer TK's question and instead left the blond wondering just how close Davis and Kari really were.

Before the Digidestined of Hope could ask anymore questions, the final bell rang, indicating the end of the school day, much to Davis and Kari's relief.

Being the first to gather her schoolwork and proceeding to leave the library, Kari was followed quickly by TK, the pair staying close with Davis as they proceeded down the hallways.

Sticking closely to Davis but not invading his personal space, Kari looked upon the maroon haired boy with a fairly curious expression.

"Are you still able to come over later to study, Davis?" The brunette questioned with a bright smile, one that grew as he nodded his head in reply.

"Yep, I just need to drop some things off on the way home, then I'll be over." Davis said in reply, his words causing Kari to giggle and close her eyes, a light blush upon her face as she seemed excited to the news.

Walking alongside the pair, TK couldn't help but take note of their positions, with Davis in between him and Kari as the brunette's focus seemed to be focused primarily upon the maroon haired boy, a sight that left the Digidestined of Hope feeling out of place and kind of jealous.

However, TK found his displayed feelings toward Davis disappearing when the maroon haired boy turned to face him and offered with a friendly tone of voice. "I know the captain of the basketball team needs some new players. I could set up for you to try out for a spot if that interests you, TK?"

Taken aback and left bewildered by how Davis not only remembered their conversation from earlier in the day, but to how he seemed so willing to help him out in anyway he could, TK looked past Davis and to see Kari smiling toward him and to then nod her head, as though mentally telling the blond haired Digidestined to take up the offer.

Looking upon Davis with a further warmth in her expression, Kari could feel the joy within her heart only growing to the way her best friend was not only willing to help TK out, but to how Davis remained as the same kind, selfless and caring person she had known and cared for for many years.

To the young Kamiya, Davis had always been a source of inspiration and it always made Kari proud and happy when others could see just how amazing her maroon haired friend could be.

Before TK could reply to Davis' offer, the blond found himself almost losing his balance as something, or rather someone, ran into him, the action causing the second individual to fall backwards and to drop the small stack of books they were carrying.

Quickly looking down, the Digidestined of Hope saw that it was a young boy with green eyes and a brown hair shaped in a bowl cut, who rubbed the back of his head after his fall.

"You ok, Cody?" Davis asked with a soft concern as he moved to help the boy back to his feet, an action TK quickly mimicked as he and the maroon haired boy helped the younger kid back up.

"I'm fine. Thanks, Davis." The boy, Cody Hida, replied in appreciation as he moved to collect his scattered books, while seemingly somewhat surprised to see TK and Davis helping him out.

"Sorry about that, I wasn't looking where I was going." The Digidestined of Hope said in apology, which Cody just smiled toward and shook his head in reply.

"No, it was my fault, I should have paid more attention to my surroundings." The young boy replied with a respectful bow toward TK, one that made Davis smile as he watched the interaction.

For as long as he had known Cody, Davis knew that the brown haired boy was much more mature then he looked, a sad result of having to face the harsher realities of life after losing his father, a police officer, in the line of duty.

Even still, Davis did what he could to help Cody out whenever he could, an action the young boy seemed to appreciate as he looked up to the maroon haired boy as a friend and role model.

As he and TK helped Cody finish collecting his books, unaware of how Kari watched the scene with an endearing smile, Davis was then caught off guard as someone latched onto his back, before wrapping their arms gently around his neck.

Startled by the sudden actions and looking over his shoulder, Davis found a purple haired girl now embracing him, who looked upon the maroon haired boy with endearing eyes behind her glasses.

"Hi, Davis! I haven't seen you all day. How was your summer break?" Yolei asked with a bright smile upon her face, tightening her embrace around the maroon haired boy as she then purred lightly. "Have you been working out more? Your muscles are more defined than I remember."

Chuckling nervously and in embarrassment toward what he believed was Yolei being a little too friendly, Davis remained with a friendly smile of his own as he told the purple haired girl. "Um... thanks Yolei. Yeah, I did have a good break, and I hope yours was good as well. I know working at the convenience store takes up some of your days, but I hope your parents allowed you some time to relax."

Blinking his eyes to Yolei's endearing actions, it finally clicked in TK's head as he thought to himself. 'Oh, Davis is the guy she wouldn't stop talking about.'

To the kindness and care Davis had expressed toward her, Yolei expelled a small squeal of joy and she held onto the boy of her dreams.

Hoping that finally she could win Davis' heart and have him as her boyfriend, Yolei remained snuggling closer to the oblivious boy.

When it came to Davis Motomiya, Yolei couldn't find anything not to admire about him, for he was handsome, kind, sweet and captain of the soccer team, a boy who didn't boast or brag about his accomplishments and stuck his neck out for others, the kind of guy you can depend on, and that made Davis ideal boyfriend material.

"Yolei... would you kindly get off of Davis?" Kari asked with a friendly smile upon her face and her eyes closed.

Despite how friendly she sounded, TK knew Kari well enough to sense an edge to the brunette's tone of voice, where TK noticed the way Kari's left eyebrow twitched in annoyance, while her grip upon her books seemed to tighten further.

Though doing her best to keep her smile, it annoyed Kari to no end as to how Yolei, as well as some other girls, were constantly trying to get Davis' attention and in such flirtatious ways, much to, and what she believed to be, Davis' unsettlement.

Growling a little upon hearing the familiar voice of the Digidestined of Light, Yolei removed herself from Davis and glared at Kari, replying with a little heat in her voice. "Butt out, Kamiya! I was just saying hi to Davis!"

Sharing in Kari's unsaid resentment, it infuriated the purple haired girl, alongside others who were trying to win Davis' affection, how Kari seemed to be at the maroon haired boy's side all the time, as well as how Kari appeared to be Yolei's main obstacle when it came to getting together with the boy of her dreams.

"Then just say hi and don't throw yourself at him like a desperate fangirl." Kari then said with a continued sweet smile, which further perplexed TK upon hearing the strange resentment within Kari's voice.

"Says the girl who follows him like a puppy." Yolei said back, her remark leading TK to have sworn he saw sparks growing between the girls and leaving a growing tension within the air.

"Is... is this normal?" TK found himself questioning, while Cody, who remained beside the blond and replied with an almost annoyed tone of voice. "Unfortunately, yes."

Davis, meanwhile, could only chuckle nervously as he tried to figure out a way to diffuse the situation between Kari and Yolei.

Already knowing of Kari's temper and how it could get a little out of control, Davis was grateful he was never on the receiving end of it.

Fortunately, the tension seemed to diffuse itself as Yolei seemed to remember something, where she took out a folded piece of paper from her pocket.

"Oh, I just remembered, Izzy told me to give this to you." The purple haired girl then told Kari.

Lowering her tensions toward Kari and handing the brunette the piece of paper, this surprised both Kari and TK as to why the Digidestined of Knowledge was sending them a message through Yolei.

Opening the letter and silently reading the message, Kari's eyes widened as she looked at TK with absolute concern.

"Tai's in trouble, we need to head to the computer lab!" She said, panic stricken.

Shocked from Kari's outburst, TK found his concerns growing as the brunette handed him the note, where he felt his eyes widen to the simple message written upon it.

The Digi-Gate has been re-opened, the Digital World is in danger and Tai needs help.

Not needing to say anything further, TK clenched the note within his hands and quickly left with Kari and raced to the computer lab, the sudden outburst leaving Davis, Yolei and Cody confused as to what exactly was going on.

However, hearing that Tai was in some kind of trouble, as well as having a possible idea in mind as to what was happening, Davis quickly took off after Kari and TK.

Blinking in confusion and puzzled in regard to the ruckus, Yolei and Cody looked upon one another, before the pair decided they too should hurry their way to the computer lab themselves to figure out what all the commotion was really about.

Rushing into the computer room, Kari and TK looked to see their friend and the Digidestined of Knowledge, Izzy Izumi, who was typing away at one of the computer terminals.

Noticing he was no longer alone, the red haired boy turned his head and looked upon the two younger Digidestined with concern.

"Kari, TK, come over here." Izzy said as he looked back upon the screen, where the Digidestined of Light and of Hope moved to either side of the red haired boy and looked upon the screen.

Looking at the monitor, Kari and TK saw what appeared to be a Digi-port upon the centre of the screen, while what looked like a map of the Digital World appeared within the corner.

Finding their confusion only growing, the younger Digidestined's concerns continued to get to them as the pair saw sections of the map now covered in darkness.

"Tai's message was brief, but he said that there was trouble and he needs help." Izzy explained to Kari and TK, who were left in shock at the idea that the Digital World was in danger once again.

"So, the gate to the Digital World is open again?" A familiar voice then questioned, this causing the trio of Digidestined to look and see Davis standing a few feet from them with a curious expression, while Izzy and TK' eyes widened in shock to hear the maroon haired boy talking about the Digital World.

His eyes still wide with shock and turning to face Kari, TK questioned with some uncertainty within his voice. "You told him?"

Instead of looking guilty or embarrassed, Kari merely crossed her arms and gave the Digidestined of Hope a stern look as she replied. "Yeah, I did, so what?"

To Kari's snappy reply, as though challenging them to call her out, both TK and Izzy were taken aback as neither were used to hearing the normally kind, sweet and understanding girl being so defensive.

Then looking at one another, TK and Izzy silently wondered if Kari had already had this argument with Tai in the past.

Keeping his smile and chuckling to himself, Davis could still vividly remember that day, right after the Digidestined had returned home from the Digital World, where Kari had quickly found him and seated him to the side as she explained everything to him, even taking a stick and making crude images in the dirt as she explained the Digimon, the Digital World and everything she, Tai and the others had experienced.

And knowing Kari well and hearing the excitement and enthusiasm within her voice, Davis believed every word she told him, not that he would ever doubt her.

"Well, I don't know how everyone else did it, but it's kind of hard forgetting being kidnapped by a bunch of ugly ghost things." The maroon haired boy then remarked as he scratched the back of his head in thought of his memories from back then, where Izzy and TK were shocked and surprised to hear that Davis was one of the children captured by Myotismon during his invasion of Odaiba.

Before any more questions could be asked, however, the three Digidestined and Davis were then surprised as the computer monitor began to glow brightly, before a trio of lights shot out of the screen, one heading straight for Davis as he instinctively held his hands out in order to catch whatever it was.

Unbeknownst to those within the computer lab, the other two beams of light shot out of the room and made a beeline for Yolei and Cody, the pair in complete shock as they caught whatever it was now coming toward them.

Back within the lab and once the light faded, Kari, TK, Izzy and even Davis were now taken by surprise as to see what was now within the maroon haired boy's hands, to see a new type of Digivice now within his possession.

Looking upon the Digivice in his hands, Davis found himself in awe and quietly wondering if this meant that he was now a Digidestined, that he too would have a Digimon partner and, more importantly to the maroon haired boy, that he could be there for Kari when she needed him.

Meanwhile, it took everything in Kari not to squeal with pure joy, joy that Davis was also a Digidestined, joy to the idea that she could now share the Digital World and any adventures they might now have with her best friend.

Acting out of her excitement and the urgency of the situation within the Digital World, Kari quickly wrapped her hands around Davis' wrists, startling the maroon haired boy as the Digidestined of Light pulled him closer to the computer.

"Come on, Tai needs us!" She declared as she held her Digivice toward the computer, where Davis and TK looked upon one another, nodded their heads in agreement and too brought up their own Digivices.

"Digi-port open!" Kari then announced, where Izzy watched in awe as the computer screen glowed with a bright light and the trio of younger Digidestined were suddenly sucked into the screen.

However, the awe Izzy felt quickly turned into panic after the Digidestined of Knowledge heard a pair of panicked cries behind him as he turned to see Yolei and Cody standing at the entrance to the computer lab.

Getting over her shock once the light of the computer screen slowly died down, Yolei quickly approached Izzy.

Sweating nervously, especially as the purple haired girl grabbed him by his shirt collar, Izzy found Yolei screaming into his face as she demanded. "What's going on, where did Davis go and what the heck is this?!"

Holding her free hand out, Izzy felt his eyes widened to see a Digivice of a similar style to Davis' now within Yolei's possession, while out of the corner of his eyes, the red haired Digidestined took note as Cody held his own Digivice, having received his at the same moment Yolei did.

Gulping a little to the intense glare the purple haired girl was giving him, alongside the curious expression upon Cody's face, Izzy mentally sighed as he knew he couldn't hide the secret, and that he had a lot of explaining to do.

.

.

.

After a nearly blinding flash of light, Kari and TK expressed a shared sense of awe as they found themselves in a forest-like region, the Digidestined of Light and of Hope feeling a sense of joy to be back within the Digital World.

Despite the happiness Kari and TK shared as to finding themselves within the Digital World, a concern continued to grow as the Digidestined took notice of the dark skies above, the darkness leaving a dreaded shiver to consume the brunette.

Looking around, however, Kari and TK found their attention drawn to Davis, the pair further surprised to see that the maroon haired boy's outfit had changed, which consisted of a blue jacket with red and orange flame designs upon it.

Unfazed with his new attire, Davis found his attention focused solely upon his surroundings as he looked around in awe at the fact that he was now within the Digital World, before Davis' concerns fell upon the darkened skies, which he guessed was part of the issue that Kari and the others seemed so worried about.

Turning his attention back to Kari, Davis then felt a smile spread across his face as he saw the brunette holding her hands behind her back, her eyes closed and her head tilted with a bright smile.

"Welcome to the Digital World, Davis." The Digidestined of Light then said.

Feeling warmth toward the joy Kari had expressed toward him, Davis then found his attention once more changing as he heard a loud beeping sound, the noise drawing Davis' eyes down and to see his new Digivice.

As Kari and TK moved to his sides and looked over his shoulders, the maroon haired Digidestined noticed that there was now a map upon his Digivice's screen, with three blinking dots on one spot on the map, undoubtedly indicating their current location, and another dot that was flashing not too far off from their current position.

"That must be where we can find Tai. Let's go!" Kari said with her tone of seriousness, before the brunette grabbed Davis by his left hand and began to quickly drag him in the direction indicated on the map.

Surprised by Kari's actions, but also understanding her concerns, Davis quickly composed himself and moved at Kari' pace, while TK followed in pursuit.

Watching Davis and Kari as he followed behind them, TK listened as Kari eagerly pointed around and explained all she could to her maroon haired best friend, the Digidestined of Light telling him more about her time in the Digital World as they walked through the forest.

But what really caught TK's attention the most was the fact that since they had first begun walking, Kari had never released her hold on Davis' hand, the pair walking hand in hand as though they were on a date, which left TK feeling a bit like he was a third wheel.

"What about you, TK? What was it like when you first got here?" Davis then asked, the question snapping TK out of his solemn thoughts and to see the maroon haired Digidestined now looking back at him with a fair curiosity.

"I know you, Tai and the others were here in the Digital World before Kari, so I'm curious to hear how things went for you." Davis went on to say.

Blinking his eyes as he felt the honesty within Davis' words, TK felt slightly warmed that the maroon haired boy genuinely wanted to include him, but he also took notice to the way Kari blushed in embarrassment as she had expressed so much excitement that Davis had finally come to the Digital World that she had completely forgotten that the blond haired Digidestined was also with them.

Smiling from Davis' curiosity, and to his further friendliness, TK moved closer to the pair as he began to tell his side of the story, going into his time on File Island, the battle with Devimon and nearly losing Patamon, to the battle with Etemon and after when they returned to the Real World to stop Myotismon from harming Kari.

As he and Kari listened to TK as he explained the Digidestined's adventures for his point of view, Davis soon came to a stop as he noticed something that definitely seemed out of place within the forest, an active vending machine.

Letting go of Kari's hand and curiously approaching the machine, Davis remained perplexed as to how the device remained active without any electricity.

About to press one of the buttons to give the machine a small test, the maroon haired boy then remembered some of the tales Kari had told him about the Digital World in the past, which led Davis to then gently knock on the vending machine and ask with a gentle tone of voice. "Is anyone in there?"

"Go away, we're hiding in here!" A voice called from inside of the vending machine, the angered declaration followed by the sound of numerous voices all from within the machine surprised the maroon haired Digidestned.

Approaching the machine themselves, Kari spoke up.

"Don't worry, we're not here to harm you." She assured with the friendliest voice she could muster, one that brought a smile to Davis and TK's faces.

"Wait, that voice, isn't that...?" One of the voices within the vending machine began to question, before all the beings within the machine cried with great joy. "Queen Kari!"

At the sound of the joyous cry, Kari, TK and Davis stepped back as the vending machine began to shake, before a dozen slime-like creatures emerged from the vending machine's door, the group of Digimon cheering lightly as they looked upon the trio of Digidestined.

"Oh wow, Numemon!" TK said with some surprise in his voice to see the slime Digimon once again.

However, remembering that there was a member of the group who had never seen Numemon before and might be startled by their appearance, TK turned to check on Davis and see if he was alright.

But instead of finding the maroon haired boy shocked or terrified, TK merely found Davis with a blank expression as he blinked his eyes a few times.

"Wow, they're exactly as you drew them." Davis told Kari as he looked over the small Digimon before him, his comment causing the Digidestined of Light to cross her arms and to expel a small huff.

"Hey, my drawings weren't that bad." Kari commented with a small pout as she knew Davis was insinuating her inability to draw.

To Kari's comment, Davis merely looked at TK with a look that screamed, 'Yes they were', this causing TK to softly snicker a little, before the Digidestined of Hope regained his composure to the way Kari glared at him.

It was then that a loud roar echoed throughout the area, the sudden noise startling the three Digidestined, while the Numemon were left shaking with fear.

"Be careful, something very, very bad is happening in the Digital World!" One of the Numemon told the Digidestined with a further fear in his voice, before the horde of Numemon quickly rushed into the deeper parts of the forest to hide themselves from the evil plaguing their world.

To see the fear in the Digimon as they ran away, Kari and TK felt concern for the Digital World as a whole, while Davis narrowed his eyes and clenched his Digivice tightly, believing in his heart that these Digimon should not have to live in such fear.

"Come on, Tai's waiting." The maroon haired boy then said with a firm authority within his voice, which earned Kari and TK's attention.

Drawing his Digivice and walking in the direction indicated on the map, Kari and TK quickly caught up with the maroon haired Digidestined, the trio further concerned about the safety of Tai and their Digimon partners.

Walking behind of Davis, Kari looked upon her best friend with some worry within her expression, but the Digidestined of Light also felt some warmth within her heart.

Kari knew that the maroon haired boy would always stand up for those who needed help, while Davis remembered all that Kari told him about the Digimon, the good and the bad, which encouraged the maroon haired boy to ensure that others like the Dark Masters or Myotismon would never rise again.

After a few more minutes and continuing their venture through the forest, Davis, Kari and TK eventually passed their way out of the tree line and found themselves in a large clearing.

Examining their surroundings for any details, allies or enemies, the trio were taken aback by a pair of loud and joyous voices calling their names.

"Kari/TK!" The voices called out, the warmth and familiarity causing Kari and TK to look over and to express a growing joy as both now saw their Digimon partners rushing toward them.

"Gatomon/Patamon!" Kari and TK called with their own joyous tones as the pair rushed toward their respective partners.

As Gatomon happily leapt into Kari's arms and softly nuzzled her cheek against Kari's own, Patamon landed within TK's welcoming embrace.

Hugging their Digimon partners with pure happiness, Kari and TK remained in their endearing moods after so many years of separation.

Staying silent and watching the scene from behind Kari and TK, Davis held a smile upon his face, especially as he looked upon the expression of pure joy now seen within Kari's expression.

As Kari and TK continued to express their warmth toward Gatomon and Patamon, Davis then noticed three other figures quickly catching up to the group, one he easily recognized as Tai, along with a small orange dinosaur which Davis assumed was Agumon, accompanied by a tall and mysterious man.

Hugging Gatomon tightly and fighting back tears of joy to be with her Digimon partner once again, Kari then looked upon the feline Digimon's tail, where the young Kamiya immediately noticed something missing.

"Your tail ring..." Kari remarked with concern, looking upon Gatomon's face as she then questioned. "What happened?"

To the question, Gatomon's head lowered, her ears drooped and a somewhat lamenting expression appeared upon her face, all of which told Kari that Gatomon didn't wish to discuss what happened right now, a decision the brunette silently respected.

Quickly catching up to Gatomon and Patamon, while also smiling to see that help had arrived, Tai then took notice of the third and unexpected individual, an individual the Digidestined of Courage knew all too well.

"Davis?! What are you doing here?" The older Kamiya questioned with a fair confusion in his voice as he looked upon the maroon haired boy, his inquiry causing the Digimon and Gennai to turn their attention upon the other human amongst the group.

To Tai's question, Davis merely brought his right hand up and showed his new Digivice to the older brunette, the sight of which causing Tai's eyes to widen in pure shock to see his sister's best friend, the boy he often considered as a little brother, now a Digidestined himself.

And looking upon his sibling, Tai could see the pure joy within Kari's eyes as she looked upon Davis, this bringing a small smile to the Digidestined of Courage's face to see the happiness within her eyes to finally be able to truly share her time in the Digital World with her maroon haired friend.

"I don't know how I can help here, but I'll do whatever I can to make things right." Davis told Tai, his tone courageous but respectful, before the maroon haired Digidestined moved closer to Kari and bent down a little so he could leave himself eye level with Kari's partner.

"It's nice to finally meet you, Gatomon. Kari has told me a lot about you." He said with a soft smile.

Blinking her eyes as she looked upon the maroon haired boy with some questions, Gatomon's eyes suddenly widened as a sudden realization hit her.

"Wait, you're Kari's friend!" The Digimon of Light declared, her words surprising Tai, TK, Patamon and Agumon as they looked between the feline Digimon and Davis.

"When I was spying on Kari, thinking she was possibly the Eighth Digidestined, I saw her meeting up with you at the park a few times. I even saw her visit your place and you visited her a few times." Gatomon informed.

Gaining a small smile on her face, Gatomon went on and then told Davis. "I even remember when we first thought Myotismon was defeated how Kari practically dragged Joe over to you when you were unconscious to check that you were alright."

To the later of Gatomon's words, Kari gained a soft hue to her cheeks as she remembered her frantically dragging Joe over to Davis' sleeping body, of how she begged the Digidestined of Reliability to check and see if he was alright.

Davis, meanwhile, just smiled to hear how Kari tried to make sure he was alright, an action he would most likely mimic.

Meanwhile, TK held a look of pure shock to hear that even back then, when he had first met Kari, that she and Davis were close, that their relationship had been around for a long time now.

"A new Digidestined? This might relate to the Digi-Egg in the cavern!" Gennai stated in surprise, his comment causing Kari and TK to look upon him as they quickly recognized who he was.

"Gennai?!" The Digidestined of Light and Hope each questioned with shock in their voices.

Blinking his eyes a few times, Davis then turned to Kari and said with a bout of confusion in his voice. "I thought you said he was an old geezer."

The maroon haired boy then expelled a soft groan as Kari quickly elbowed his chest, before the Digidestined of Light chuckled nervously as Gennai sent her a small glare.

However, the moment then turned tense as a loud roar was heard in the distance, followed closely by dark lightning that surged through the skies above, the sudden change in environment startling the Digidestined, the Digimon and Gennai.

"Hurry, back to the cave!" Gennai suggested with a sense of urgency as Davis, Kari, TK, Tai and the Digimon quickly took off after the Digital Human, with the younger of the Digidestined left to wonder just how bad things truly were now in the Digital World.

.

.

.

Arriving back within the cavern, Gennai, Tai and the Digimon led TK, Kari and Davis down the tunnel and toward the stone altar, the Digidestined of Hope and of Light found their focus drawn upon the various drawings and imagery etched upon the walls.

With Davis, however, the maroon haired Digidestined merely walked behind Kari and TK as he felt a strange sensation, as though a strong force was calling out to him.

As group walked, meanwhile, Gatomon, Agumon and Patamon took the time as to explain about the dark energy flowing throughout the Digital World, the dark force infecting innocent Digimon, as well as the legions of Dark Digimon and the fact that none of them could Digivolve now, the news concerning the Digidestined of Light and of Hope greatly.

Arriving at the end of the tunnel, TK and Kari were both surprised to see the strange Digi-Egg embedded with the Crest of Courage, which sat on the stone altar.

"Homeostasis said that this should be able to help us, but that dang thing is glued to the ground or something." Tai informed as he all but glared at the Digi-Egg.

Having tried several more times to pry the object from the stone altar after the flash of light, Tai found all his efforts in vain.

As Kari and TK looked at one another, both shared in their confusion as to why the Digidestined of Courage could not lift an object with his Crest upon it, Davis found himself staring directly at the Digi-Egg as he felt something was calling out to him.

'Davis... I've been waiting for you...' A voice then declared, the tone was kind, but remained powerful.

Although he had never heard the voice before in his life, the maroon haired Digidestined knew it was a voice he could trust.

As Kari, TK, Tai, the Digimon and Gennai were further discussing the Digi-Egg and of ways how they could lift it, the Digidestined of Light then noticed Davis quickly approaching the altar.

Puzzled by this, the Digidestined of Light then asked with some concern in her voice. "Davis, what are you doing?!"

As the rest of the group looked upon the maroon haired boy, Davis found his focus deadset on the altar.

Approaching the mysterious Digi-Egg and wrapping his right hand around the object, Tai, Gennai and the others watched with a shared sense of awe as Davis easily lifted the object from off of the altar with no effort.

With the Digi-Egg now in his possession, the maroon haired boy examined the item with a strange sense of curiosity upon his face.

It was then Davis' focus turned to the altar as a large pillar of light shot out from the podium and toward the ceiling, the blazing light causing the Digidestined, Gennai and the Digimon to briefly shield their eyes, while Gatomon, Patamon and Agumon felt a great energy being released.

At the same moment, eight individuals, the dark entities responsible for the chaos within the Digital World, also felt the energy, their eyes narrowing as they felt the presence of an old foe returning to the world.

Along with the dark beings, a Golemon infected by the darkness not too far off from the cave felt the pure energy as well, along with the battalion of Troopmon attempting to secure the infected Digimon and to bring it back to their masters so it too would be added to their forces.

Un-shielding their eyes as the light from the energy pillar began to die down, Davis and the others then saw a small shape take form within the pillar.

Gazing upon the figure within the light, those within the cavern then saw it appeared to be a small blue lizard-like Digimon, one who looked slightly shorter than Agumon, its features including a small horn upon his nose and a yellow V shaped mark upon his forehead.

As they looked upon the new Digimon, Patamon and Agumon were both in awe.

Although their paths had never crossed before, both Agumon and Pataomon shared in an unsaid confusion as to why each felt as though this Digimon was so familiar to them, as though they had known him from a long, long time ago.

Meanwhile, and though she too felt a similar sense of uncertainty as Patamon and Agumon expressed, Gatomon held a look of wonder and awe as she looked upon the unknown Digimon.

Not only did Gatomon feel as though she already knew him from long ago, the Digimon of Light felt as if she had waited her entire life to see him once again.

The fact that the V-marked Digimon was cute didn't help matters for the Digimon of Light as she watched him open his shining red eyes and to look upon Davis, before leaping to his feet and toward the maroon haired Digidestined.

"It's good to finally meet you, Davis, my name is..." The new Digimon began to say as he held his hand out to greet Davis, but stopped in his actions as he looked upon his arm, before the V-marked Digimon then looked himself over for the first time.

"Oh, it seems I've reverted back to my Rookie form." The Digimon commented as he looked himself over.

Getting over his initial confusion and looking back at Davis, the V-marked Digimon then told the maroon haired boy with a friendly tone of voice. "In this form, my name is Veemon, but most people know me by my Digivolved form, Magnamon."

"Magnamon?! The last of the Royal Knights?!" Gennai questioned in shock and awe, his reaction causing the Digidestined and Digimon to look upon the Digital Human, who then explained. "The Royal Knights were a group of powerful defenders that saved the Digital World countless ages ago... from an ancient evil."

As the Digidestined saw the dawn of realization upon Gennai's face, Veemon narrowed his eyes as he felt the darkness within the Digital World, one he knew all too well.

"Yes and it seems that evil has returned." Veemon said, his tone of unease.

As the Digidestined, Gennai and most of the Digimon remained shocked by Veemon's words, Gatomon seemed a little spaced out, as though looking upon the V-marked Digimon was like a dream, which only intensified as he looked at her and flashed her a friendly smile.

"What is your name, my lady?" Veemon asked with a courteous and polite tone of voice, the chivalry Veemon expressed caused Gatomon to blush brightly, while Kari giggled a little at her partner's reaction.

Before anything else could be said between the Digimon, the entire cavern began to rumble, with all but Veemon becoming startled as the blue scaled Digimon glared toward the entrance of the cave.

"The enemy's servants are here. Let's go!" Veemon declared as he rushed toward the entrance.

Sharing in Veemon's sense of unease and the desire to protect those around him, Davis hurried himself right behind the small blue Digimon, which was closely followed by Gennai and the other Digidestined and Digimon.

Exiting the cave, Veemon and Davis barely missed being struck by a massive stone fist, just before Kari and the others caught up and now found a large rock Digimon opposing them.

Looking over the Digimon, concern continued to grasp Kari's heart as she saw the rock Digimon held vicious glowing red eyes, while a thick dark aura seeped itself around its being.

"That's a Golemon, a Champion Level Digimon!" Agumon said with a growing concern within his voice, his concerns shared by Patamon, who added with his own panic stricken voice. "And it looks like he's been affected by the darkness as well."

"He's just a victim here, they are the real threat." Veemon remarked with a growing anger within his voice as he, Davis and the others looked beyond the enraged Golemon and took notice of the platoon of Digimon marching toward them.

Adorning dark suits, gas masks and wielding automatic rifles, the added forces marched in unison.

They appeared organized, almost souless as they proceeded closer and spoke in a language that none of the Digidestined, Digimon, nor Gennai could understand.

"Those Troopmon are servants of the enemy, so be careful!" The V-marked Digimon then said, his tone remaining serious as he stood his ground.

Standing away from the majority of the Troopmon and seemingly taking the position of leader, one of the Troopmon aimed his rifle toward Veemon and was about to fire.

However...

"Vee-headbutt!" Veemon exclaimed mightily as he lunged himself at the Troopmon and slammed his head straight into the soldier Digimon's being, the impact of Veemon's attack sending the Troopmon flying backwards and crashing into several of his comrades.

"They might be Champions, but they are weaker than Digimon like Devidramon! Work together and we can win this!" Veemon called out to the others as he found himself jumping back and dodging the rampaging Golemon's fists.

Listening to Veemon's words and doing as he told them, Agumon, Patamon and Gatomon sprang into action, while Davis, Kari, TK, Tai and Gennai moved out of the way as they looked for cover.

Recovering from Veemon's attack and maintaining their attack pattern, the Troopmon brought up their rifles and opened fire against the Digimon who opposed them and their evil masters.

Maintaining his role as commander, the lead Troopmon shouted something unintelligible as they began to attack their new enemies, earning further compliance from the Troopmon forces.

"Pepper Breath!"

"Boom Bubble!"

Between their declaration, the Digimon of Courage and of Hope expelled respective blasts of fire and of air upon the Troopmon.

Countering the combination of flame and explosive air as they opened fire, the Troopmon found the attacks somewhat overpowering as dust and dirt covered their eyes.

With some of the Troopmon knocked out by Agumon and Patamon's combined attacks, the Troopmon still standing looked above and saw the Digimon of Light using her agility to lunge toward them.

"Lightning Paw!" Gatomon declared as she slammed her right fist into the face of one of the Troopmon, the force of Gatomon's attack shattering the eye glass piece of its mask.

However, and even without her tail ring, Gatomon remained defiant as she began to punch and kick her way through the soldier-like Digimon.

Though she still wasn't back to her full strength, it felt good to Gatomon to be able to kick the butts of a few of these evil Digimon threatening her world.

Despite the efforts of Gatomon, Agumon and Patamon, however, the trio quickly moved out of the way as the infected Golemon opened its mouth and expelled a superheated gas from its maw, the gas burning away the ground where the Chosen Digimon were standing.

"Careful of Golemon's Sulfer Plume." Patamon called in warning, before he explained. "If any of that stuff gets on us, we'll be reduced to sludge puddles."

Nodding in reply and appreciative toward Patamon's concerns, Agumon, Veemon and Gatomon remained on alert as the Digimon fought against the infected Golemon and the Troopmon battalion.

Dodging several more sweeps of Golemon's arms and finally seeing an opening, Veemon rushed himself toward the rock Digimon, his right hand clenching into a fist as he jumped to the air.

"Vee Punch!" The V-marked Digimon exclaimed as he slammed his fist into the side of the Golemon's face, the surprising impact causing the large rock Digimon to expel an annoyed roar as its head moved to the side.

Quick to recover from Veemon's punch and remaining in its state of blind fury, the Golemon swung its arms along the ground, trying to crush the V-marked Digimon with its superior strength and size.

Easily dodging the strikes due to his smaller and agile form, Veemon felt himself growing frustrated.

Despite his current form's level of mobility, he wasn't strong enough to fight a foe such as Golemon.

As the battle raged around her, meanwhile, Kari did her best to stay out of the way, especially when it came from the further gunfire deployed from the Troopmon and the fists of the Golemon.

Too distracted by the battle, however, Kari failed to see a tree root sticking out of the ground until she tripped over it.

Falling to the ground, the Digidestined of Light expelled a small pain-filled cry, before she tightly wrapped her arms around her bruised ankle.

"My foot!" The younger Kamiya cried out in pain, certain she had twisted her ankle.

Keeping pressure on her injury, Kari's eyes then widened as she noticed the Golemon had turned its focus toward her.

With his fist held up and staring upon its helpless prey with absolute evil in its eyes, the Golemon looked ready to crush the Digidestined of Light like a bug.

"Kari!" Tai yelled in fear as he saw the large Digimon now opposing his sister.

"Kari, run for it!" TK called out as he too expressed his own fears toward the dreading sight, before the Digidestined of Hope found himself in awe when a figure quickly rushed past him.

Quicker than she could blink, Kari found herself scooped into someone's arms as she was held bridal style and left to look on as Golemon's fist smashed its way through the ground she was just lying upon.

Overcoming her shock at her close demise, Kari looked up upon her saviour, which left her smiling with a light blush to see Davis now holding her, his expression of pure determination as he hurried them to safety.

Mentally sighing in relief, Tai couldn't help but smile at the scene.

Tai knew that whenever Kari was in trouble, Davis would always be there for his sibling, to protect Kari whenever he could.

Thinking further on Davis, the older Kamiya remembered a few years before he and the others first went to the Digital World when he was with Kari and Davis as they were playing in the park.

Always being the bright and adventurous girl, Kari had decided to climb a tree, but climbing a little higher than she should've, one of the branches supporting her weight broke apart and led to the younger Kamiya to lose her balance and fall back to the ground.

Before Kari could hit the ground and suffer any major injuries, Davis was there.

Catching and easily saving her, the two went back to playing together as if nothing had happened, and from that moment on, Tai knew that he could always count on Davis being there for his sister.

Quickly moving to get Kari to a safer position, Davis dodged bullets from the Troopmon.

Holding Kari closely to his chest and showing no fear, even as one of the bullets went past his head, tore through the strap of his goggles and left the headwear shattering upon the ground, all that mattered to Davis at that moment was Kari's protection.

Resting Kari down against a tree and maintaining concern as he looked over the Digidestined of Light, desperate to find a way he could further help Kari, Tai and the new friends he had made, the emotions Davis held within his heart seemed to react as a bright light began to emit from out of the maroon haired Digidestined's jacket pocket.

Surprised by the sudden light energies, Kari watched on as Davis then slowly reached into his pocket and removed his Digivice and the Digi-Egg.

Gazing upon the items, Davis found the Digi-Egg now glowing alongside the screen of his Digivice as both radiated further with an overwhelming power source.

As surprised as Davis and Kari found themselves in regard to the great energy, Veemon found his attention quickly drawn over to the maroon haired boy, his eyes widening toward the energy Davis now possessed.

"Davis, hold the Digi-Egg up and yell 'Digi-Armour Energize'!" Veemon then shouted to his new partner.

Uncertain to what Veemon was on about, but trusting his words, Davis did as he was told.

Drawing up the Digi-Egg high above his head, the maroon haired boy then announced with a great might in his voice. "Digi-Armour Energize!"

To Davis' call, the Digi-Egg began to glow with an intense orange light, which began to affect Veemon as his body was enveloped in orange light.

"Veemon, Armour Digivolve to..." Veemon began to announce as his glowing form began to grow and change shape, much to the astonishment of the Digidestined and the Digimon partners.

Watching as the orange light faded and to reveal Veemon's new form, everyone present remained in awe of the sight before them.

Now resembling a taller and more mature version of Veemon, standing about the same height as Gennai, the blue scaled Digimon now had flame patterned armour that adorned his chest, arms, legs, feet and his face.

As his armour resembled the same features of the Digi-Egg, the features also included the same horn-like protruding now attached to the front of the helmet.

Drawing himself into a fighting stance, the new Digimon then declared with a greater might in his voice. "Flamedramon, the Fire of Courage!"

As a shared bewilderment expressed itself through Davis, the Digidestined and their Digimon partners, Gatomon found herself in awe as she took in Veemon's Digivolved form.

"Wow..." The feline Digimon whispered in awe to herself as she looked upon the newer form of Veemon.

Gazing further upon Flamedramon's body, Gatomon remained uncertain as to why she felt her cheeks gaining a small blush.

"He Digivolved? But how?!" Tai questioned in shock as he remembered how an unknown factor seemed to interfere with Agumon's Digivolution.

Sharing in Tai's bewilderment but quickly realizing what had just occurred, Gennai's eyes widened.

"That Digi-Egg... It's Digi-Armour, an ancient form of Digivolution that must be immune to the power preventing the others from Digivolving!" The Digital Human explained with a great awe within his voice.

Upon seeing Veemon Digivolve, the Troopmon's commander expressed a panic within its voice, where his troops drew their guns toward Flamedramon, who remained defiant and just held his right hand out.

"Protect Kari, Davis. I'll handle this." Flamedramon said over his shoulder, his noble words causing Davis to nod his head in reply and to further express his trust in his new Digimon partner.

Opening fire upon their newer foe as Flamedramon rushed toward the Troopmon's line, the Troopmon found themselves in shock as the Digimon of Courage easily dodged their onslaught of bullets.

Closing the distance between himself and his foes, Flamedramon leapt into the air as flames began to form within his fists.

"Fire Rocket!" The Digimon of Courage bellowed as he then unleashed a barrage of fiery blasts down upon the Troopmon, many of whom screamed in pain as their bodies broke apart into countless Data particles.

Seeing their comrades fall, the remainder of the Troopmon quickly fled from the battle so they could report back to their superiors about this sudden turn of events.

Floating down and about to land on the ground, Flamedramon quickly dodged another swing from the Golemon's fist, his nimble form easily allowing the Digimon of Courage to evade the larger Digimon's clumsy and rage-filled strikes.

"Express Claw!" Flamedramon then announced as he quickly delivered a series of punches to Golemon's chest, the series of blows not only inflicting a fair pain to the infected Digimon, but the last blow actually sent the rock based Digimon flying upward and into the air, astonishing Davis, Kari and the others to the strength the Dragon Digimon possessed.

Although he knew he wasn't as powerful when compared to his true form, Flamedramon knew that his current level of power, along with his bond with Davis, would help them drive his old enemies back to the void they spawned from.

Maintaining his level of speed, Flamedramon then disappeared in a flicker, before reappearing above Golemon's head as the rock Digimon remained propelled by Flamedramon's previous attack.

Showing his power once again, the Digimon of Courage's right hand was consumed in a large inferno.

"Flame Fist!" He declared with a greater might within his voice as he slammed his fist down upon the Golemon's head, the powerful attack causing the larger Digimon to quickly crash down upon the ground below, while the impact caused a massive crater to form and for a cloud of dust to cover the area.

When the dust cleared, not only did Davis, Kari and the others see the dazed expression upon the Golemon's face, but each took note of that dark aura around it fading as its eyes returned to normal.

Seeing the Golemon freed from its dark spell, but turning his focus toward the nearby dark spire, Flamedramon's horn was then engulfed in flame.

"Flame Shot!" The Digimon of Courage declared as the flame around his horn grew into a massive sword, which Flamedramon used to slice through the spire.

With the spire destroyed and its evil no more, Agumon, Patamon and even Gatomon felt renewed, almost as if they could Digivolve once again.

"Those spires are products of the enemy's power. As long as they stand, none who oppose them can Digivolve." Flamedramon then informed as he landed back upon the ground, just before his body began to glow with orange light and his being reverted back to his Rookie form.

Once Veemon had returned to normal, a secondary light of energy shot out of the V-marked Digimon and entered Davis' jacket pocket, to the interest of the maroon haired boy and his allies.

Curious and reaching into his pocket, Davis then removed a small terminal like device, which opened up to reveal a screen which displayed the Digi-Egg of Courage.

As surprised as Davis was to this new item, the maroon haired Digidestined was then startled as another light appeared within his jacket, where he reached into his pocket again and removed another object as he and Kari were both shocked to see what it was, to see that the item within Davis' hand was a Crest, this one gold in colour with what appeared to be an M symbol surrounded by three triangles.

Unsure as to what this meant, but believing it would assist him as a Digidestined, Davis then returned his attention back to Veemon, Tai and the others.

Regrouping with Davis and holding a confident smile in his expression, the V-marked Digimon told his partner with a great enthusiasm within his voice. "That is your Crest. Its power links us both from now on, and I am looking forward to working with you, Digidestined of Miracles."

Hearing Veemon's words, Tai, TK, Kari, Gennai and the other Digimon looked upon Davis with awe, while Davis looked down upon his new Crest with a sense of wonderment.

Although he had many questions on his mind, Davis remained confident that Veemon, Tai and his friends would indeed help him on his path as a Digidestined.

After checking to see that the Golemon was alright and sending it off to find safety, Davis took a moment to check on the Digidestined of Light.

Seeing how Kari was still having a little difficulty standing, Davis gently wrapped his arms around the brunette and proceeded to help her up.

"Put some ice on that leg when we get you home, that will help with the swelling." Davis told Kari as he helped the Digidestined of Light over to Gennai's house, accompanied alongside Veemon, Gatomon and the others.

"Thank you, Davis. And not just for the advice, but for being there for me." Kari said back with a kind smile as she rested her head upon Davis' shoulder, the action causing the maroon haired Digidestined to smile himself and to kindly reply. "Always."

Smiling herself as she looked back upon her best friend, Kari expressed a frown when she noticed something was missing from the maroon haired boy.

Finally realizing what was missing, a soft concern laced Kari's voice as she then said. "Davis, your goggles..."

Smiling sadly as he looked over to his ruined pair of goggles now lying upon the ground nearby, the goggles Kari herself had presented him as a birthday gift a few years ago, Davis sighed but smiled nonetheless.

Davis was solemn to his loss, but more so relieved to know Kari was safe.

Turning back toward the others and helping Kari to reach them, Davis was surprised when Tai, TK, Gennai and the other Digimon approached him, before the maroon haired boy, alongside Kari and TK, were shocked when Tai removed his goggles off and handed them to Davis.

"Here, take these." The older Kamiya said with a reassuring smile, which only grew as Davis took the goggles into his free hand.

"I don't have any other means of 'passing the torch', but take this as my way of saying that I trust you to lead the Digidestined forward in saving the Digital World." Tai then remarked with a further trust and confidence in his voice, his words shocking Davis, while Kari was left beaming in joy.

TK, meanwhile, felt conflicted as to why Tai would pass up him as his successor as the Digidestined's leader, while also remaining in awe as to how Davis had handled himself today.

While taking the goggles and sliding them over his forehead, Kari continued to look upon Davis with admiration and pride.

"It's getting late, so you should all return home for the evening." Gennai suggested as he looked over the setting sun.

Although in agreement with his words, Davis, Kari, Tai and TK looked back upon their Digimon partners.

"But what about you guys?!" Kari questioned with concern as she looked upon Gatomon and the other Digimon, hating the idea of leaving her Digimon partner alone and in potential danger.

"My house will provide protection from the invaders, and we'll gather the other Chosen Digimon here as well." Gennai replied with a kind and reassuring tone of voice.

"And I'll do what I can to protect everyone here." Veemon added with his own sincerity, the entire time unaware of the way Gatomon looked upon him with awe and a small blush.

"Get some rest, I'll explain what is happening here in the Digital World when you return tomorrow." The Digimon of Miracles then offered with a smile, which Davis returned as he helped Kari toward a nearby TV Monitor Gennai had set up for them, followed closest by Tai and TK.

The Digidestined remained wondering just what the future held for them and for the Digital World, but at the same time, Davis and his new team remained determined to stop this evil.

Back within the computer lab and during the time Davis, Kari and TK were gone, Izzy went into great lengths to explain what he could about the Digital World to Yolei and Cody.

As the purple haired girl and the younger boy listened to the Digidestined of Knowledge, both thinking he was crazy a first, but listening to what Izzy had to tell them, and knowing this was far too much for the red haired boy to just make it all up, especially when he showed them his Digivice, as well as the photo Andromon had taken of the group before they left the Digital World, Yolei and Cody carefully listened to what Izzy had to tell them.

And while intrigued by the idea of the Digital World and potentially getting her own Digimon partner, Yolei found her focus more on the whereabouts of Davis, and to where Kamiya had taken him.

A second later, however, Izzy, Yolei and Cody were startled when the computer monitor began to glow, before the Digidestined of Knowledge found himself crushed by several bodies as Tai, Davis, Kari and TK landed atop of him in an unintended dogpile.

Shocked and confused as to why they had landed in such a position upon their return, but grateful there was no pressure being placed upon her sore ankle, Kari then looked around, before her eyes narrowed upon seeing Yolei and Cody staring at her.

"Yolei? Why are you here?" The Digidestined of Light questioned in annoyance, her tone of frustration as she believed the purple haired girl had spent all this time just to try and pester Davis once again.

However, Kari found her frown turning to an expression of shock as Yolei held her new Digivice out for the brunette to see.

To this revelation, Kari mentally groaned as she saw the soft smirk now upon the purple haired girl's face, thus leaving Kari with the knowledge that she would now have to deal with Yolei's antics within the Digital World.

Ignorant of the tension between Kari and Yolei, Davis found himself once again looking upon his Digivice, where the Digidestined of Miracles was left wondering what else the future had in store for him, his new partner and for his new teammates.

Within a massive and barely lit chamber within the Digital World, seven pillars held shadowy representations of the beings currently responsible for the darkness infecting the Digital World.

Holding projections of the dark beings as they met to discuss current events, each pillar held a mark used to represent the individuals, which featured the marks of Pride, Wrath, Lust, Greed, Sloth, Envy and Gluttony.

"There is no doubt about it, Magnamon has been awakened." The individual that represented Pride informed his colleagues, each of whom held different reactions to the news.

"As I recall, he was quite... determined when it came to battle." The individual who represented Lust, and the only female amongst the group then said with a sly and devious giggle within her tone.

"He is weak and should be easy prey." The being represented by Wrath remarked as he narrowed his eyes to the thought of destroying his old enemy.

"Then let me end him! He owes me a debt of blood for his impudence!" The Digimon represented by Greed yelled with pure rage within his voice.

Despite his appearance almost representing that of an elderly man, the embodiment of greed held absolute power through their outburst.

A sudden but low growl caused the dark beings to look upon the one that represented Sloth, knowing that while he was technically asleep, the entity knew what was transpiring around him.

"Get in line, you old goat! He's been seen in my territories, so he's mine to take down once he proves himself worthy of my presence!" The dark figure that represented Gluttony declared with a dark chuckle, his claws clenched as he looked forward to fighting against his old foe.

"Careful your arrogance doesn't lead to your demise, dear brother." The entity that represented Envy said with a dark chuckle, one that echoed throughout the entire chamber.

"Enough!" Another voice then bellowed within the chamber, the raw motion expressed caused the seven entities to stop their banter and to look upon the eighth individual within the room, the one of whom they each swore loyalty toward.

Looking forward, the shadowy projections took in the massive black crystal bound in chains before them, where within, a large shadowy being with two heads glared upon them with its gleaming red eyes.

"Hunt down the Knight and his human pets, then continue weakening the Digital World so that I may be free once more!" The entity declared as the seven other individuals bowed with respect, before their projections disappeared, leaving the imprisoned entity to itself.

Crossing their heads together, the dark being narrowed his eyes as he declared to himself with a tone of absolute evil and malice. "Soon I will be freed from this prison, and all life will perish at my hands!"

Author's note: A new adventure, a retelling of Digimon 02, my way.

As I am sure many of you can guess who the villains are this time around, the main one, while already having gained a voice actor in Ghost Games, I can see my version being voiced by Gabriel Woolf, Doctor Who fans should be able to recognize the voice actor and who he voiced.

This story will be a new adventure, following 02 but with newer twists and newer events, which included a much closer relationship between Davis and Kari, especially with Davis not acting like a mini Tai and Kari being more open with him.

I am not promising quick updates, however, especially between life, work and Destiny's Salvation, but I promise with each chapter's release, it will be episodic.

Hope you all enjoy this and I look forward to when I can release the next chapter of this and update Destiny's Salvation.
