Makoa vs Nanu
The next morning at the Tapu Village Pokemon Center, the group was just finishing breakfast; after they put their trays away, they exited the cafeteria, they were walking to the nurse to pick up their Pokemon. As they do, they hear an announcement on the PA system.
'Will Ed, Edd, and Eddy report to the nearest phone; you have a call on hold for you.' said a woman's voice.
"I wonder who that could be." said Edd. He walks to a phone where a woman was standing next to; when he gets to the phone, the woman hands him the receiver. Two minutes later, Edd returns to the group.
"What's up, Double-D?" asked Eddy.
"That was my parents who called." replied Edd.
"Why did they call?" asked Jimmy. A big smile appeared on Edd's face.
"Wonderful news; the Kanker Sisters are back in juvenile hall!" said Edd.
"Really?!" replied Eddy, excitedly.
"Oh boy!" said Ed.
"That's great!" said Sarah.
"Who are the Kanker Sisters?" asked Maxiley.
"Oh, Maxiley; they're these three crazy girls from our neighborhood." said Sarah.
"Define 'girls'." said Eddy.
"Those three were always stalking Ed, Eddy, and myself; they were obsessed with us!" said Edd. He then looks at Eddy. "At least Tanya seems to have a stable mind." Eddy smiles and blushes at the mention of Tanya.
"Were the Kanker Sisters bad?" asked Maxiley.
"They were horrible!" said Jimmy.
"This one time, Ed was sleepwalking and ended up with this ship in a bottle they owned stuck in his finger; they nearly destroyed our neighborhood trying to find it until they got it back." said Eddy.
"During the Eds time in the Sinnoh Region, the Kankers went on a rampage throughout our neighborhood, trying to find them." said Jimmy.
"They interrogated me, Jimmy, and four other kids in our neighborhood." said Sarah.
"Are you okay now, Sarah?" asked Maxiley with concern.
"I'll live." said Sarah.
"I stopped having nightmares after the Eds returned; I guess sleeping next to Lucario back when he was a Riolu kept the nightmares away." said Jimmy.
"I hate to think what they would've done to us if they hadn't found out the Eds were in Sinnoh." said Sarah.
"Anyway; May lost a gym battle in a place called Rustboro City in the Hoenn Region and let's just say she and her sisters didn't exactly take the loss with grace." said Edd. "From what I was told, they threw massive temper tantrums and caused havoc all over Rustboro City, even had their Pokemon help; they nearly destroyed Rustburo City."
"Whoa!" replied Maxiley.
"Anyway, they got arrested and got their Pokemon taken away and released into the wild." said Edd. "Now they're back in the Lemon Brook Juvenile Detention Center and are now under twenty-four-seven surveillance to make sure they never escape again." (a/n: Letting those three out of juvie; what were we thinking?)
"Yes!" cheered Eddy.
"No more Kankers!" cheered Ed.
"Yippee!" cheered Sarah.
"Well, today's off to a good start." said Edd.
"Then let's make it better by winning the Grand Trials." said Eddy.
"Yeah!" replied everyone else, raising their fists. The group exited the Pokemon Center and began to travel east on their way to Malie City. As they were on Route 12, Jimmy sees a Pokemon that looked like a tortoise with reddish-brown skin and a large black shell walking out of tall grass.
"What's that, Double-D?" asked Jimmy. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Torkoal, the Coal Pokemon. It burns coal to produce energy. When it has burned through all of its coal, it becomes unable to move." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"I'll catch this one for the Poke Pelago." said Jimmy, pulling out a pokeball. "Lycanroc, go!" He throws Lycanroc's pokeball and releases him. "Lycanroc, use Leer!" Lycanroc glares at Torkoal while his eyes glowed blue, weakening Torkoal's defense. It tucked its head and legs into its shell and rolled towards Lycanroc while its shell was surrounded by fire and rams Lycanroc, but not doing much damage to it.
"I think that was Flame Wheel." said Edd. "Good thing fire type moves aren't very effective against rock type Pokemon."
"Lycanroc, Accelerock!" said Jimmy. Lycanroc was surrounded by a white aura and charges at Torkoal; he rams Torkoal, dealing super effective damage to it and knocks it to the ground. Jimmy takes out a Nest Ball he got from Mallow and throws it at Torkoal, hitting it; it gets sucked into the Nest Ball and falls to the ground. After it moved around, it clicks. "Yay! I caught Torkoal!"
"Good work, Jimmy." said Ed. Torkoal's Nest Ball vanishes and is transported to the Poke Pelago. Edd looks up Torkoal's information.
"This says Torkoal's a female, she knows Ember, Smog, Withdraw, Rapid Spin, Smokescreen, Flame Wheel, Curse, Lava Plume, and Body Slam." said Edd. "She has the White Smoke ability which prevents her stats from being lowered by an opposing Pokemon's moves." After Jimmy returns Lycanroc to his pokeball, the group continued to walk through Route 12; moments later, they finally arrived at Malie City. "Okay, if I recall, we're supposed to meet the kahuna on the pier."
"Let's go, then." said Eddy. They ran to the direction of the pier; when they got there, they were surprised to see Makoa standing in front of Nanu.
"It's Makoa." said Maxiley, bitterly, getting Makoa's attention.
"Oh, it's you." said Makoa.
"What are you up to?" asked Maxiley.
"I'm battling the island kahuna over there." replied Makoa, pointing at Nanu.
"That's the island kahuna?" asked Eddy.
"Yes; I am Kahuna Nanu." said Nanu.
"Why are you battling him if you're only interested in the Mask Royal's tournament?" asked Maxiley. Makoa responds by reaching into his backpack and pulling out his Sparkling Stone. "You have a Sparkling Stone too?"
"Tapu Bulu gave this to me." replied Makoa with a smug look.
"So? Tapu Lele gave me mine." said Maxiley.
"Anyway, Kahuna Nanu there said he'd make my Sparkling Stone into a Z-Ring if I can beat him in battle." said Makoa before turning towards Kahuna Nanu.
"Let's watch; I want to see if he has any Pokemon I haven't seen." said Maxiley.
"Sure; it'll give the rest of us a chance to see what Pokemon Kahuna Nanu uses." said Edd.
"Good idea." said Eddy. Makoa and Kahuna Nanu each pull out a pokeball.
"Sableye, go!" said Kahuna Nanu, throwing a pokeball and releasing a purple, humanoid Pokemon with gemstones for eyes and a red gemstone on its chest. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Sableye, the Darkness Pokemon. It digs through the ground with its hard claws and crunches down gems with its thick pointy teeth. Carbink is its favorite food." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Granbull, go!" said Makoa, throwing a pokeball and releasing a purple, bipedal, bulldog-like Pokemon. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Granbull, the Fairy Pokemon, and the evolved form of Snubbull. Although it's popular with young people, Granbull is timid and sensitive, so it's totally incompetent as a watchdog." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Sableye, Fake Out!" said Kahuna Nanu. Sableye jumps in front of Granbull and claps its hands, releasing a shockwave that hits it, damaging it and making it flinch. "Now use Shadow Ball!" Sableye forms a ball of black and purple energy and launches it at Granbull, hitting it, and weakening its special defense.
"Don't just stand there, Granbull; use Fire Fang!" said Makoa. Granbull charges at Sableye while its jaws were surrounded by fire and it bites Sableye, dealing damage to it.
"Use Shadow Claw!" said Kahuna Nanu. Sableye runs at Granbull while its hand was surrounded by black energy and it claws Granbull across the chest, knocking it back.
"Granbull, use Ice Fang!" said Makoa. Granbull's jaws become surrounded by ice, and it bites Sableye, damaging it, and trapping it in ice.
"No, Sableye!" said Kahuna Nanu.
"Now use Thunder Fang!" said Makoa. Granbull charges at Sableye while electricity covered its mouth and bites Sableye, dealing damage to it.
"Sableye, use Fury Swipes!" said Kahuna Nanu. Sableye breaks out of the ice and repeatedly scratches Granbull; it stumbles back and drops to one knee.
"I didn't tell you to take a break, Granbull; use Thunder Fang!" said Makoa. Granbull stands up and its jaws become surrounded by electricity; it bites Sableye and does enough damage to knock it out. "Yeah; how do you like that, Nanu?" Kahuna Nanu frowns and returns Sableye to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Sableye." said Kahuna Nanu. He puts Sableye's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Krokorok, go!" He throws a pokeball and releases a bipedal, crocodile-like Pokemon with a tan body with black stripes and a pink underbelly. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Krokorok, the Desert Croc Pokemon, and the evolved form of Sandile. It buries some of its prey in the sand to use as emergency meals when its hunts are unsuccessful." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Krokorok, use Earthquake!" said Kahuna Nanu. Krokorok jumps up and lands on the ground, creating an earthquake, knocking Granbull to the ground.
"Get up, Granbull!" yelled Makoa. Granbull tries to get up, but unfortunately, it passes out.
"It seems your Granbull is unable to continue." said Kahuna Nanu. Makoa growls and returns Granbull to its pokeball; he sneers at it and puts it away, making Maxiley frown. Makoa pulls out a Net Ball.
"Jellicent, go!" said Makoa, throwing the Net Ball and releasing a large, blue, jellyfish-like Pokemon. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Jellicent, the Floating Pokemon, and the evolved form of Frillish. Fishermen are terrified of Jellicent. It's rumored to drag them into the sea and steal their lives away." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"His Frillish must've evolved." said Edd.
"And now you'll see how strong he is now." said Makoa. "Jellicent, use Rain Dance!" Jellicent begins to summon dark clouds and rain begins pouring out of them.
"Oh my; if Jellicent knows any water type moves, they'll become stronger." said Edd.
"And even stronger thanks to the Sea Incense Jellicent is holding." said Makoa.
"Krokorok, use Crunch!" said Kahuna Nanu. Krokorok runs at Jellicent and bites him, dealing super effective damage to him. A black aura surrounds Jellicent's body, the Krokorok's body becomes covered by a similar-colored aura.
"Oh my; that was Cursed Body." said Edd.
"So, now Krokorok can't use Crunch." said Maxiley.
"Jellicent, use Water Pulse!" said Makoa. Jellicent forms a ball of blue water between his tentacles and launches it at Krokorok, hitting it, and dealing super effective damage to it; Krokorok begins to stumble around.
"Krokorok's confused!" said Edd.
"Krokorok, use Assurance!" said Kahuna Nanu. Krokorok charges at Jellicent, but it rams itself onto the pier, hurting itself.
"Use Absorb!" said Makoa. Jellicent fires a red beam from one of his tentacles and it hits Krokorok, dealing super effective damage, and draining the last of its energy, knocking it out while healing some of Jellicent's wounds.
"Your Jellicent is victorious, Makoa." said Kahuna Nanu, making Makoa smirk. Kahuna Nanu returns Krokorok to its pokeball. "You fought well, Krokorok." He puts Krokorok's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "You're doing well so far, Makoa; but you have to beat my final Pokemon before I make your stone into a Z-Ring. Persian, go!" He throws his pokeball and releases a Persian.
"Okay, Jellicent, use Brine!" said Makoa. Jellicent fires a powerful stream of water at Persian, hitting it, and knocking it back. Kahuna Nanu holds up his wrist, revealing a Z-Ring.
"A Z-Ring!" said Edd.
"You think Kahuna Nanu is ready to use a Z Move?" asked Jimmy. His question was answered when Kahuna Nanu does some poses and channels energy onto Persian, and the Z-Power symbol appears.
"Persian, Black Hole Eclipse!" said Kahuna Nanu. Persain lifts up its head and a sphere of red, black, and purple energy forms above its head; it throws the sphere at Jellicent where it expands into a black hole. Jellicent gets sucked into the hole and it shrinks; it then explodes, dealing super effective damage to Jellicent, knocking it out. "Your Jellicent is beaten." Makoa frowns and glares at Jellicent before returning him to his Net Ball. Makoa puts Jellicent's Net Ball away and pulls out a pokeball.
"Archeops, go!" said Makoa, throwing the pokeball and releasing a birdlike Pokemon with yellow and blue feathers, a featherless, red, snakelike head with a green stripe, and a red, featherless tail with blue feathers on the end of it. Edd points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Archeops, the First Bird Pokemon, and the evolved form of Archen. Said to be an ancestor of bird Pokémon, the muscles it uses to flap its wings are still weak, so it needs a long runway in order to take off." said Edd.
"Archeops, Wing Attack!" said Makoa. Archeops flies at Persian and strikes it with one of its wings, knocking Persian back.
"Persian, Dark Pulse!" said Kahuna Nanu. Persian fires black and purple rings of energy out of the gem on its forehead at Archeops, hitting it.
"Archeops, Ancient Power!" said Makoa. Archeops becomes surrounded by silvery energy before it forms into a ball; it launches it at Persian, hitting it. Archeops begins to surge with energy.
"Ancient Power can increase the stats of the Pokemon that uses it." said Edd.
"Just so you all know, my Archeops has a Rock Incense on him, so his rock type moves are even stronger now." said Makoa.
"Persian, Feint Attack!" said Kahuna Nanu. Persian disappears from sight.
"Archeops, Double Team!" said Makoa. Archeops splits into multiple copies of himself. Persian reappears and rams one of the Archeops, but it was only a copy. "Now use Dragon Breath!" The real Archeops fires a green and yellow beam from his mouth, and it hits Perisan, damaging it; it begins to twitch.
"Persian's paralyzed!" said Edd.
"Persian, use Bite!" said Kahuna Nanu. Persian fights through its paralysis and bites Archen's neck, damaging him, but not making him flinch.
"Archeops, use Rock Throw!" said Makoa. Archen unleashes rocks from his body, and they hit Persian, knocking it out. "Looks like I win."
"Indeed, you have." said Kahuna Nanu; he returns Persian to its pokeball. "You did well, Persian." He then puts Persian's pokeball away and walks over to Makoa. "Since you beat me, I will live up to my word and make your Sparkling Stone into a Z-Ring."
"You better." replied Makoa, making Maxiley frown.
"Hey; we're here to take on the Grand Trials." Eddy says to Kahuna Nanu.
"As soon as I get my Pokemon healed, I will battle you." said Kahuna Nanu. He turned towards Makoa. "As soon as I battle these trainers, I will get started on making your Z-Ring, Makoa."
"Fine." replied Makoa in exasperation. Kahuna Nanu walked to the direction of the Pokemon Center to get his Pokmeon treated; Makoa frowns at Maxiley, who frowns at him right back before walking towards the Pokemon Center.
"Jerk." muttered Maxiley.
