Chapter 12
Two weeks later, in April 2019 The Netherlands safehouse
" What do you think Mom?" Jake asks. " I think Cam and Danny will love the sign you made for them and the cookies you helped me make." She says. " Yup Cam's favorite is peanut butter chocolate chip and Danny's favorite is sugar cookies." He says. She promised herself that it was the last time but it wasn't. Part of it was because she knew once they left her their bubble would be over and they would go back to their lives. Unfortunately, they had the bright idea to have Sam and Danny come here because there was an attempt made on her for some reason she is unclear on so they moved them to another country. She is going to keep her distance from both but of course, Jake is excited that he gets both of his brothers and they are waiting to tell them about the pregnancy. Ugh, she has another check this is going to be hell on earth but the smile on Jake's face is worth it.
Cameron runs full speed ahead, almost knocking her down. " Hello, speedster I missed you too," Elizabeth says as she eyes Jason who releases a breath. " I missed you, Mom." He says. " What am I chopped liver? I made you and Danny a sign and everything." Jake says dramatically. Cam lets go and picks up his brother. " One day I am going to be taller than you and you won't be able to do this to me," Jake says. "Who says you are going to be taller?" Cam says. " According to me,m my dad is taller than your dad so the odds are in my favor," Jake says. Cam rolls his eyes. " Hey, Jakey," Danny says as he hugs his brother. " Hey Danny, you like the sign I made. My mom and I made your favorite cookies." He says. Danny looks at his parents and Jason says " It is ok. You can have some. Jake will show you and Cam where they are." Elizabeth says " I will show them this house is huge and with those three they might get distracted. I am glad you and Danny are safe Sam." Sam says " You too." The boys follow Elizabeth as they ramble on and on.
" Come on, I will show you where everything is., Jason says. They were provided with clothing since it was a last-minute escape. Apparently, she was getting too close to a secret that Shiloh and his partners did not want to come out with and Sam was almost kidnapped Danny missed his Dad and she and Drew agreed that Scout was not a target and they were at the Quartermaines with their security and so far no attacks have been made. They have not had time to talk but it looks like it is time.
" I need to tell you something," Sam says. " I already know about the pregnancy." He said. " Oh." She says. " I know that there is a chance it could be Drew's and I know we have to wait until they get here to test the paternity but I will be here to support you. Does he know?" He asks. " No, I kept putting it off and he was out of town mostly so I used it as an excuse. The last time we were together we spoke out trying again. Has anything changed?" She asks as she looks down. Before he can answer Danny runs in all excited. " Mom, guess what? They have a game room and my room is awesome. It has motorcycles and Jake helped decorate it for me. Isn't that cool?" He says. " Yeah that is and that was nice of Jake." She says. " Come on Mom, I want to show you." He says as he drags her out.
Elizabeth's room
" Stop snatching the covers dude," Cam says. " That is not me. This bed and comforter is big enough but your big head can't fit." Jake says. "Be nice. You are only acting like this because you missed each other and clearly the comforter is big enough for all of us. Now relax. I am going to start the movie that you two have been begging me to watch." She says." Duh Mom we have to make sure we are all caught up in the Marvel universe. You know my favorite character is Spider man and Jake's is Black Panther." Cam says. " That is because he is better than Spiderman," Jake says. " Oh no, you two are not having this debate. The last time you did it lasted for two hours and we were stuck in the car so I could not escape. Never again or no InfinityWarr for you." They both sigh and she thinks thank goodness.
" Shush Dad. I can't talk right now." Jake says as he is now laying on his stomach on the end of the bed focused on the movie with Cam sitting with legs crossed sucked in. Elizabeth covers her mouth to cover her laugh. Jason makes a motion with his head and she slips out of bed and makes her way out of he room and they walk to the unused room. She whispers " Could this not wait." Jason whispers " I just wanted to check on you, we have barely spoken today." She whispers " I am fine. I had my smoothie and smooth sailing today. Is there anything else?" Jason says " When I say check in I am not just talking about the baby. I am talking about you too." She responds " Look Sam will never be my favorite person but our sons love each other and that is more important than how I feel about her being here. I meant what I said. I am glad they are safe. As far as we are concerned there is nothing left to say. We will be co-parents but anything else has to be off the table. Because we have a pattern that we can't ignore and it is because we either don't fully trust the other person or forgive the other person. How else can you explain why we treat each other the way we do? When have we ever been your priority? Everyone else is more important so let's just cut our losses and end it."
