Chapter 9

Werewolf in the Morning?

It was Jared and Esme who were the closest to Grace when the young teenager tipped over backwards and let out an ear piercing scream right there in the middle of the hospital lobby. The other boys and Leah all ducked their heads, some placing hands over their ears as a cover. The scream had come out of no where. The reaction couldn't be from joy. No, this had to be from something else.

Pain. Their friend was now in pain.

"G-Grace?" Esme's brows were pulled together and her lips pressed to a firm line while she tried her best to help her mate, but the young girl was already dropping onto the ground with the sound of bones breaking under her skin.

This poor teenager was going through one of the worsts shifts in her life.

"Shit, " Sam gritted his teeth as he dropped his hands away from his ears. This girl was going to shift. "Jared, get over here." He waved his arm for the boy to hurry the hell up. He didn't need the vampire to start attacking just because his guys were so close.

"I need you, Embry. Get these humans out of here. Now." Sam grabbed onto Embrys' shoulders and shoved him towards the staff in the hospital.

"Keep them safe. Go to her fathers room and keep them there." Sam jabbed his finger in the direction towards the double doors. Going through there would take them far enough away from the wreckage. There was no way Sam was going to be able to get Grace outside at this point.

Things were going to turn into a shit show.

"What?! Me?!" Embry bristled, his eyes darting between Sam and the pained Grace screaming on the floor. That was his friend. Without Grace he wouldn't have noticed how much he fucked up with his mom. Now she was on the floor, eyes were spilling with tears of blood and her face was contorted with so much pain.

"…fine." He growled the word through a clenched jaw as he met with Sams gaze, but was quick to turn on his heels. Obeying his Alphas command to protect. "Let's go. Move." Embry made a motion with his arms to help guide the humans towards the back of the hospital.

"Jacob!" After watching Embry disappear behind the double doors, that was when Sam made his move around the chairs and guided most of the pack towards the front doors. "We need to get the rest of the pack out of here and into the woods. Shift. We need to be ready for this."

"I'm on it, but Sam.." Jacob's concerned gaze drifted from his Alpha to the pained Grace thrashing on the ground.

"I know, son." He gave the younger boy a pat on his shoulder and a firm nod towards the front door. "Go. We will handle this."

"I gave a call to the others in my clan." Came in Carlisles voice after Sam gave a Fathers touch and order to Jacob. "They will be here in less than ten minutes." He sighed and looked over towards Esme and Grace.

"This isn't the first time for Grace. She's able to shift by now." Sam muttered low enough to keep the conversation between the two of them. "I don't understand why it's so painful for her now. It's never her like this when she runs with us in the morning."

Carlisle tipped his head as he regarded Sam. The older shifter was indeed knowledgeable enough about their kind to notice key factors in the young natives body to understand when it was time for their wolf to rise again. The closeness of his vampire clan seems to also be a key in gaining their inhuman ability.

Carlisle was going to take note of everything he sees here tonight. It would add to his book on the mythical creatures he's encountered. What he wouldn't give to have a look at Graces inhumanly change process up close. With Esme around that would prove difficult. Their connection was fresh. Esme may be a gentle soul but if those two have not affiliated their bonding? It was a very, very bad idea to walk over their right now. In fact, he needed to switch his train of thought from the curious adventurer to the doctor.

"She is going to start convulsing again." Carlisle started, "I think it best if we find a way to move Esme before the transformation becomes wilder." He made a move with his hands to show that he was approaching with no means to harm.

"AHHHHHHH!" Another scream from Grace put pause to Carlisles approaching steps.

The next part of Graces body to twist was her leg. It bent at the knee in the opposite direction. The cracking of her bones echoed now in the empty waiting room. Her shoulders seemed to snap back and she wheezed as the air in her lungs were squeezed out by the pressure of her rib cage closing inwards.

"Grace…baby…" Esme had her hands hovering over the poor girl as she was screaming and weeping tears of blood. In some places of her legs and shoulders there were puncture wounds caused by her bones breaking and protruding out from her flesh.

The blood…There was so much blood oozing out from her wounds.

Sam was starting to show signs of concern as the girl didn't come to her complete shift.

"She might be holding back because of her…." Carlisle mused aloud, and it was at this moment that they all noticed how Graces eyes snapped open. Those bright silvers gazed deeply into the doctors eyes in a silent plea.

remove her…..

"…Yes…" Carlisle used his vampire speed to rush over to Esme's side. "I am sorry, sister." He wrapped his arm around her waist and yanked Esme away from Graces side.

"Noo! Release. ME!" The woman vampire growled after being torn away from her mates side. Her forever was in pain. Esme could feel a pain in her chest growing as the man who snatched her was dragging her further away. Her mate was now left laying on the floor in a pool of her own blood, and this man had taken her away. This COULD NOT happen. Esme roared and wiggled in his grip. She was reaching out towards her mate, watching as the young girl searching for her.

Grace, who was battling against her wolf with what little consciousness she had left, finally caught the golden iris's that were flooded with venom knew could never fall.

Esme felt her heart squeeze as she could see her mates cracked lips try and break apart into one of her smirks. The entire commotion around them seemed to stutter to a stop. Time felt as if it were moving slower between these two newly mated women.

"I-I-I'm….s-s..sorry…" The young girl on the floor choked her words around the blood in her throat, and soon allowed her eyes to fall shut the second she could see Carlisle yanking Sam out the front door with them.

The change was faster now that her mate was no where near her. The beast and Grace just so happen to agree on one thing, There will be no harm that comes to the persons who they are bonded. Not by them, and if so…

They choose death.

The in sync thoughts brought both energy's together. In one solid sound of what could be only distinguished as a tearing of fibers and the spilling of wet slaps against the cold floor. An inhuman growth of a very large and fluffy monster was occurring right behind the hospital entrance doors.

Out in the front of the hospital, the Cullens were waiting in a line up near the parked vehicles that were around. The wolves kept a majority of their party in the woods. Jacob, Sam and Paul were closer to the Cullens. Primarily as backup. The boys shifted into their wolf forms after seeing Sam being dragged out by the vampire.

"Fuck…" Emmett brought a hand up to his nose and used the other to wave off the smell. "Why does it smell so bad?" He went to exaggerate even more by gagging.

Rosalie slapped her husbands shoulder, her face was set in a scowl. "That poor girl literally was torn apart. What do you think that smell is, Em?" She folded her arms over her chest and moved her golden gaze to the walls of the building. "I hope she remembers to use the door…"

Emmett snickered.

Jasper let out a puffed sigh, his stance stiff and eyes never tearing from the door. "Be. Set. This might be a fight for your life. Everyone." His voice carried out to the wolves that were still hidden behind the coverage of the trees.

"Is she still in there, you think?" Alice gave Jaspers hand a firm squeeze. Her eyes darting from the entrance doors then back towards his face. She was nervous. They were not only here with their enemy, but their best-friend was about to…. Do who knows what.

"She's coming…" Edward clenched his jaw as he took a couple of steps back. He wasn't ready to fight a wolf. This would be practice maybe? For the next time Grace Wolfs out or something.

The wall adjacent to the hospital doors was burst through. The ceiling crumbled on top of this large standing wolf. The roof tiles sliding from their protective positions and bouncing onto the ground, each breaking upon contact with the dirt floor. The glass windows were shattered by her powerful legs as the wolf took a few steps forward. Balancing itself after its emerging.

She was big. This wolf standing on her hind-legs was way past seven feet. Her fur was a mess from that troublesome shift. Matted and sticky from her own blood. Rubble and dust from the wall she walked right through as if it were nothing but a weak structure. Her bright silver eyes were scanning over each one of the vampires. Never once did she try to turn away from them. Her nose twitched as she breathed in the scents that lingered in the air. The werewolf tipped her head back to breathe in evenmore.

"She's scenting… She's counting how many of us there are before she attacks." Edward spoke after he had heard Sam mention it to Jared and was telling them to be ready for anything.

This was going to be a first for everyone.

There wasn't supposed to be any of them left. Children of the Moon.

The wolf dropped its head after it had taken in a long last breath. The bright silver eyes were dancing with a sickening type of joy. Her jaw slowly broke away to expose the rows of sharp teeth that were just underneath soft flaps of flesh. Her shoulders were drawn back and the wolf dipped her weight onto her left foot.

"Here she comes. Emmett, with me." Jasper and Emmett moved together as one with their vampire speed. "The hands! Watch the claws and yank them back!" They both were able to wrap their arms around the giant wolf's wrists, twist her hands upwards and around her back before she had time to blink. Using the strength given to them after being unalived, they used their feet as an anchor and pushed them against the wolfs thighs. This beast was tall and that was far as they could get.

"Alice! Rose! You two are next!" Jasper called out his order and at the same time placed a majority of his focus on the wolf. He had to sedate her. He focused on making Grace feel drowsiness and relaxed.

It was working, not by much, but it was working.

Both Alice and Rose had to work fast, The girls ran up onto the werewolf's shoulders and used their legs to keep her jaw shut. They were using their most powerful weapon. "Please fight that big bad puppy, Grace. I know you're in there!" Alice called out into the ear of the wolf. Rosalie was trying her best to stay secured. The big wolf was shaking its head up and down, side to side, doing anything to get the attackers off.

Sam and Paul moved in unison, circling the fight, waiting for an opportunity for when they would need to launch in and help the vampires.

Jacob was standing guard near the Hospital building where Grace had made her grand exit. He didn't know if she would turn around and try to attack the workers or ever worse, her father.

A shaking of the wolfs shoulders caught them off guard. The body had stilled after Jasper doused the wolf in such a burdening amount of drowsiness she almost felt sick. This wasn't a fight she was totally prepared for, but that would not stop the beast. Two were holding her arms behind her back. Two were on her muzzle, keeping her jaw sealed for the most part.

It was time to show them how strong this form was. Why the others were so afraid of her kind. What it means to be afraid to go out during the night…

The wolf yanked her head upwards towards the sky in such a quick motion it nearly threw the girls off. That wasn't a one time swing. Over and over she swung her muzzle, fighting the urge to toss up her stomach. This was a fight! This was a WAR. The were in her way!

"…my….mate…" The wolfs voice echoed out into nearly every mind of the other pack. They began to whimper hearing such a powerful voice rattling the walls of their mind. "Help…me…." It whispered to them. Commanding them.

The whimpers from the others in the woods was heart clenching pull on Sam and he turned his wolf to face Grace. She was trying to take command over the pack. She wanted them to help her. With her mate? Could they have been wrong to hold her back like this then? Would the fighting stop if they allowed Esme to get closer?

"S-Sam…we can't let her….they might -you know.." Paul whimpered and lowered his head when the voice of larger wolf called out to the others, demanding assistance from them.

He growled and exposed his pearly whites. His dark brown eyes narrowed on the much larger wolf. "We don't have a choice. She'll make us fight them if we don't." He turned his head to the faster vampire, Edward. That boy should have been listening even if he didn't want to hear.

Edward's side eye was enough confirmation for Sam that the forever frozen brooding teenager was in fact listenin. Good, then he could tell the others that the pack is backing away from Esme so Grace can see they mean no harm.

"You are sure she wont harm, Esme?" Edward looked over to his father figure, Carlisle and relays the conversation to him with vampire quickness.

"I have to say I believe him, son. She waited for Esme to be clear of the room before she transformed. We can…" Carlisle paused. A moment of uncertainty. He sighed and gave his son what he hoped was a smile. "We can only pray."

Esme didn't need to be told twice. She was watching her clan hold onto her mate. They were not harming her. No, her powerful wolf was capable of handling herself against four vampires. The way her silver eyes were gleaming with spirit and joy. This was almost like a game for her mate.

"I need to be near her." Esme said with a confident and direct tone that told the boys she would not be questioned nor dragged away like the first time. "I'm going." With that she was gone. The first step Esme took towards her mate brought her closer to the wolf within seconds.

The werewolf was able to rocket Rosalie in one direction and Alice off to the other. With strength she had been withholding, the wolfs upper body flexed and she used all her strength to lift her arms while bending forward. She was able to unbalance Emmett and Jasper from the tight hold that captured her and she swung them around to her front. Crashing the bodies into one another.

The sound was like nothing she had heard before. Vampires colliding was like hearing two brick walls falling on top of one another. Their skin was shattering like glass from the pressure of her strong swing. It would take these two maybe weeks to recover. Lots and lots of blood.

"Stop!" Esme weeps as she witnessed her boys, her sons, being shattered right in front of her. She was filled with so many mixed emotions. Yes, they were trying to save Grace but they were also harming her, so this retaliation was necessary. "Please…Please…Do not kill them." Esme reached a shaky hand up towards the boys.

Jasper was coughing up venom and looked like he was about to pass out. Emmett was breathing heavy for a vampire and he too looked ready to close his eyes. This needed to end. No more death. No more pain.

"Baby? Can you hear me?" Esme reached upwards towards those sharp canines. "Let them go. I'm here now. I'm right here." She cooed softly towards the wolf. The bright silvers were darting between the vampires in her hands and the one right before her. It wasn't hard for the wolf to make up her mind. She grunted and tossed the boys like they were nothing but rag dolls towards Carlisle.

"….Mine…" It growled out, shocking everyone around.

Esme gasped and covered her mouth. This werewolf… it spoke? Did they ever speak? "I..." She momentarily paused, but was fast to catch her reaction and correct it.

"Yes, my sweet. I am yours. All yours." Esme purred.

The wolf stretched its muzzle even closer towards Esme, rubbing its bloody and mud soaked fur against her. Scenting her.

Esme felt her body leaning into the wolfs touch, and she shuddered when the wet nose passed over her neck. This should be frightening her, maybe even making her feel queasy with nervousness from being this close to something so strong and instinct driven. Instead she found it comforting and almost alluring in a way. She knew that this was the way animals would scent mark. Esme has animal watched for so many years now, she felt like she could be one of the experts.

The wolf brought its head away from scenting Esme And peered at the over wolves who stay hidden behind trees and thick undergrowth. This female belonged to her. That what clearly what her wolf was doing. Claiming.

Esme felt her stomach fill with heat and it sank. The heat was creating a slickness between her legs.

She shouldn't be thinking any type of thought other than bringing her mates thinking mind back to the forefront. Not the fact that the heat coming from her werewolf body was actually soothing and not discomforting. Esme didn't need to think about how easy it was for the wolf to protect her from harm, even if it was just her family. No, Esme needed to focus on the powerful way her wolf was towering over her with this almost knowing smirk that said'I Can smell you, my dear.'

Naughty. Not the time. Clean thoughts were needed.

"Grace, I need you. Please, baby…"

There. Using her eyes as a window into what could not be said aloud, Esme watched the bright silvers of the wolfs eyes change from this wild animal to that of someone with the capability of adding two plus two.

"…Grace..?" Esme looked between each eye. Watching as her wolf blinked once, twice and then a third. Her heard tilted with confusion, brows furrowing as she lifted her heard away so that she could take in the entire scene.

They were going to have to have a rather long discussion about this later.

For now? Esme was happy to have her mate back.

(Around this time, early stages of Fall; it can be documented that Grace Parker finally allowed herself to succumb to the power of the moon. The venom injection of captive #89 was a success. We can be sure that this girl will not be a threat if she can overcome the lure of her instincts and persevere. ) -click

The sound of a tape recorder clicked from high up in a large redwood. Three or four miles away from the location of the hospital. A pair of vibrant green eyes peer past the binoculars with a squint.

"I hope to see you soon, Grace…"
