A Charon-class shuttle and two Apollo fighters flew into Earth's atmosphere and then landed on a floating platform in Metropolis. Jewl-Us exited one of the fighters and met up with the other pilot. "Well, we made it. I guess I was wrong. There was no danger after all," he mused.
"You see what just did? You just jinxed us, idiot," the other pilot scolded.
Suddenly, the shuttle exploded killing everyone onboard. The second pilot took off her helmet revealing herself to be Saora-Ul and went over to her body double who was mortally wounded on the platform. "Caorda," Saora addressed as she scanned her injuries with her X-ray vision.
"I failed you, my lady," Caorda said apologetically.
"I don't know about that. You took that explosion quite well," Saora complimented.
Caorda then died on the spot along with the rest of the shuttle crew. "Well...that's unfortunate," Jewl-Us sighed.
After the bombing, Kara addressed several Vindicators: Imra, Rokk, Garth, Salu, Jo, Nura, and Projecta. "I don't know how much longer I can tolerate this shit, my friends. More and more star systems are leaving over Alex being made a princess."
"If they do break away...," Rokk interjected.
"I will not allow this Galactic Federation that has lasted a few years be split in two. My negotiations will not fail," Kara said confidently.
"If they do, you must realize there aren't enough Vindicators to protect the federation. We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers," Rokk said.
"Nura, do you think it will come to war?" Kara asked.
"Not a clue," Nura admitted.
A hologram of a guard appeared on Kara's desk. "Saora-Ul and her escort have arrived."
"Send them in," Kara ordered. "We will discuss your general incompetence later," she dismissed the Vindicators.
Saora and Jewl entered Kara's office alone as the rest of their escort were dead on the landing platform. "Saora-Ul, terrible tragedy on the landing platform but seeing you alive gives me great joy," Nura said sincerely.
"Do you know who is behind this attack?" Saora asked seriously.
"Our intelligence points to disgruntled spice miners on New Krypton," Rokk said.
"I think Lemnos is behind this," Saora theorized.
"He's a political idealist and a murderer," Imra concurred.
"Lemnos was once a Vindicator. I could totally see him do it," Garth agreed.
"But you're certainly in danger, Saora," Nura said ominously.
"What did I ever do to deserve this attention?" Saora asked incredulously.
"Saura will be placed under royal protection," Kara said from behind the group.
"Do you really think that's wise under these uncertain times?" Jewl asked.
"I do not believe it's that serious. That explosion was weak as fuck," Saora downplayed.
"An attack on you is an attack on the entire royal family," Kara told her as she advanced toward her. "Additional security may be disruptive for you, but I don't give a shit. Prince Kon-El will provide security for you at all times."
"That can be arranged. He just settled a border dispute on Ansion," Rokk considered.
"If by settled, you mean there is no border," Projecta rolled her eyes.
"So, it's settled," Kara said to them all. "The thought of losing you...is a slight inconvenience," she said to Saora.
"I'll have Prince Kon-El report to you immediately," Rokk assured her.
Kon quickly got to Saora's apartment on the top floor of a tall skyscraper. He exited the elevator wearing simple black robes with Insane armor underneath. Kon had a tendency to appear defenseless and unarmored so as to lure his enemies into fighting him. "It's been far too long," Kon said as he greeted her. "My job is to get you out in the open to lure out your attacker."
"That sounds like the opposite of protecting me," Saora said spooked.
"I want answers. I want to know who wants to kill you," Kon said seriously.
"That sounds like you're exceeding your mandate," Saora mock scolded.
"Yeah," Kon said nonchalantly. "You will pay attention to my lead," he ordered.
"Why?" Saora demanded.
"I'm not just some security officer. Investigation is implied in my mandate," Kon said.
"What about the Vindicator Council?" Saora asked.
"Fuck those guys," Kon said dismissively. "My place as Crown Prince is far above them."
"Perhaps your presence alone will reveal the mystery," Saora shrugged.
"One can only hope," Kon smiled.
"I'm tired. I need to retire," Saora said as she went to her bedroom. Kon followed behind her only for Saora to lock the door.
"What a tease," Kon rolled his eyes.
Kon sat down chilling as he watched Saora sleep via the security cameras in her room. "It's not creepy if it's security-related," he told himself. Bored, Kon took a nap. Meanwhile, a probe droid managed to cut its way through Saora's window and send in alien centipedes. The centipedes crawled toward Saora's bed and made their way toward her face.
Kon suddenly barged into the room, blasted the two centipedes off Saora, and noticed the observing probe droid. Kon immediately crashed through the window and grabbed the probe droid. The droid retreated away taking Kon with it. The probe tried to shake Kon off without success. The probe went into oncoming traffic causing near collisions midair. A female assassin fired her rifle at the probe destroying it. Kon dropped for a bit and then flew toward the assassin's flying vehicle.
Kon flew around the flying vehicles and continued his pursuit of the assassin using a combination of falcon and X-ray vision. The assassin entered the industrial zone on the outskirts of Metropolis. The assassin then fired on a power plant creating an electrical surge. Kon went through the electricity and was slightly shocked. Kon gave the assassin the impression he had lost her. He continually scanned the city for the assassin and then suddenly dropped down toward the surface. With a thud, he landed on top of the assassin's car.
The assassin tried to throw him off and fired at him. Kon blasted a hole through the roof of the car disabling the controls. The assassin's car slammed into the surface near a convenient nightclub. Having survived the impact, the assassin ran into the club and changed her appearance revealing herself as a Durlan. Kon entered the club and scanned the patrons. Bored of that, Kon went over to the bar.
"Vodka martini, shaken, not stirred," Kon ordered using his O-12 rank card.
Before he could get his drink, the assassin snuck up on him. Kon sensed her approaching with his ki detection and quickly blasted off her hand holding her pistol. Kon then grabbed the assassin and dragged her out. "Vindicator business, go back to your drinks," Kon told the surprised patrons.
Outside the bar, Kon slammed the assassin to the floor. "Do you know who it was you were trying to kill?" Kon questioned.
"A Kryptonian," she said vaguely.
"And who hired you?" Kon asked.
"It was just a job," she downplayed.
"Who hired you?" Kon asked her. "Tell me now!" he shouted at her.
The assassin crushed a poison capsule from her tooth and died on the spot, her brain dissolving in acid. "Well...shit," Kon sighed.
The next day, Kara, Mon, and Kon had a family meeting. "I want this bounty hunter tracked down. I want to know who she was working for," Kara demanded on Mon.
"Isn't it obvious?" he scoffed.
"Too much for you to hunt down?" Kara questioned. Mon shook his head fully comprehending he was being manipulated but had no choice in the matter.
"What about Saora?" Kon asked.
"Handle her," Kara said vaguely.
"Well, okay then," Kon said wide-eyed.
"I'm giving you an important assignment, Kon. Don't fuck it up. I don't have any additional Kryptonian females in capsules from the 21st century," Kara said seriously.
"With your guidance, I will not fail," Kon said with false sincerity.
"I have said it many times behind closed doors, you are the most gifted Insane Kryptonian that has ever lived. I see you becoming the greatest warrior in the entire galaxy, even more powerful than your father and me," Kara said.
"The boy does have exceptional skills," Mon allowed. "But he has much to learn." '
"When the both of us have perished, you and your sister will bring balance to the galaxy," Kara told him.
Kon visited Saora at her apartment and watched as she packed, not bothering to assist her. "I hope I'm not being an inconvenience," Saora said slightly concerned.
"It's an honor to take on this heavy burden. I accept this assignment with all humility," Kon lied.
"I do not like this idea of hiding," Saora said displeased.
"Don't worry. I intend to have you out in the open as bait," Kon assured her.
Saora stared at Kon for a little too long. "Prince Kon-El, you've grown up."
"My parents, the Vindicators, the Galactic Federation Senate, the whole galaxy doesn't seem to see it," Kon said bitterly. "Don't get me wrong, I'm truly grateful to have powers and abilities from both the Insane and the Kryptonians. In some ways, in a lot of ways, I'm really ahead of them both. I'm ready for the Vindicator trials, but they feel I'm too unpredictable," Kon said.
"That must be frustrating," Saora said sympathetically.
"They're overly critical and unfair. Sometimes, I wish I could kill them all, slaughter kids, commit genocide, and blow-up planets...oh, shit, I'm toasted," Kon realized he had gone too far.
"The only way we grow is by overthrowing our mentors and systems that rule over us," Saora said knowingly.
"I know," Kon sighed as he sat on her bed.
"Kon, don't try to grow up too fast. You're only seven," Saora reminded him.
"But I've had accelerated growth," Kon pointed out.
"Stare at me like you usually do," Saora requested. Kon complied giving her a hungry look of violent lust. "Your look makes me uncomfortable. Keep doing it."
"Nice," Kon smiled amused.
Later that day, Mon met up with Kon and Saora before they were to head off. "Kon, don't do anything without consulting me or the Vindicator Corps," Mon ordered.
"Of course," Kon said with false sincerity.
"I'll get to the bottom of this plot quickly. You'll be back here in no time," Mon assured her.
"I'll be most grateful for your speed," Saora replied.
"Time to go," Kon said wanting Saora all to himself.
"Kon, may the Insane be with you," Mon said seriously.
"And with you, father," Kon bowed respectfully.
Kon and Saora then made their way to a Charon-class shuttle. "Suddenly I'm afraid," Saora said conversationally as they walked.
"For the poor bastards we're about to conquer? I am, too," Kon smirked.
The shuttle then took off toward New Krypton.
On the way to New Krypton, Kon and Saora had a chat over lunch. "It must be difficult the life of a prince," Saora remarked.
"Actually, it's super easy barely an inconvenience," Kon corrected. "I can visit any place I want and do whatever I want or love whoever I want to love."
"And what is love to you?" Saora quizzed.
"Love is patient and kind. Love does not envy or boast. It is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way. It is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things," Kon quoted.
"And how do you reconcile your love with all the enemies you have killed?" Saora asked.
"In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand them well enough to defeat them, at that moment, I also love them. I think it's really impossible to really understand what they want, and what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, in that very moment when I love them, I destroy them," Kon said seriously. "So, you could say we're encouraged to love."
New Krypton
Kon and Saora eventually arrived on New Krypton under a red dwarf sun. The skies were a normal blue and the sun appeared as normal in the sky but the two of them noticed their powers slowly draining away. "I think this planet needs you. I'm glad you're willing to serve," Kon said appreciatively. The two entered a large hall where the Kryptonian Council held their meetings.
"I have decided this planet needs new leadership and I pick...me," Kon announced.
"Even if we voted in favor of your ascension, it could create a civil war," one councilman said. "It's unthinkable!" another said. "There hasn't been a war on New Krypton since the formation of our republic."
"Are you willing to negotiate a peaceful solution whereby you stand for elections and let the people decide?" the lead councilwoman asked.
"Democracy, elections, rule of law, these things frighten me so no," Kon shot down.
"We may have to turn to the Trade Federation and Commerce Guilds for help," the lead councilwoman threatened.
"Yeah, good luck with that," Kon rolled his eyes.
"Outrageous that after four trials in the Galactic Federation Supreme Court, you're still a prince in good standing," one councilman said. "The Galactic Federation Senate is truly powerless when it comes to your family."
"As it should be," Kon replied.
"We will keep faith in the republic. The day we stop believing democracy can work is the day we lose it," the lead councilwoman said.
"That day would be this day," Kon said confidently. "Prepare for my transition of power while I go on vacation in the lake country out in the open."
The council simply stared at Kon and Saora after they had left. "He may be Insane, but he is also Kryptonian. No doubt, he is losing his powers under this red sun," they said amongst themselves. "We must prepare our defenses to balance the terms of an engagement with him."
Kon and Saora came upon a cottage on the lake. "I love the water. On Argo, we never had a lake like this. If I lived here, I would swim to that island every day, lie in the sand, and let the sun dry me," Saora smiled.
"Sand is overrated. It's coarse, rough, irritating, and it gets everywhere," Kon said knowingly. "I prefer things that are soft and smooth."
"Like me?" Saora figured.
"Absolutely," Kon replied and then gave her a romantic kiss.
"I want to roll in the grass with you," Saora whispered to him.
"Because that's romantic?" Kon questioned.
"Because it will lure out our attackers," she replied.
"God damn, woman," Kon smiled realizing he had found his perfect match.
However, as they sat in the grass talking next to a beautiful waterfall, no one cared to interrupt them. "Well...shit," Kon said bored.
"Is this a good time to talk about my ex-boyfriends?" Saora asked.
"Fuck it," Kon said throwing his hands up.
"I was twelve. His name was Pa'lo. We went to school together on Argo. He was a few years older than I," Saora detailed.
"How many years older?" Kon asked alarmed.
"He had dark curly hair, and attractive eyes," Saora continued.
"Okay, I get the picture," Kon said enviously. "Whatever happened to him?"
"He died a thousand years ago and now I am with you," Saora concluded.
"Maybe he was the lucky one," Kon said dangerously.
"You have a grudge against Kryptonians, don't you?" Saora sensed.
"I like two or three, but I'm not so sure about the last one," Kon teased. "I don't think the system here works."
"How would you have it work? Not everyone agrees," Saora asked curiously.
"Well, then, they should be made to. By someone wise," Kon said.
"Sounds like a dictatorship to me," Saora said accusingly.
"If it works, it works," Kon said dismissively. "My mother keeps a semblance of democracy by allowing the legislature to override her with a super-majority vote. But it's not the Insane way."
"And what is the Insane way?" Saora asked skeptically.
"Riding that cow," Kon said and then went over to it. Saora watched passively as Kon rode the cow until it eventually tossed him off and trampled him. She then casually walked over to him.
"Have you lost your powers already or are you trying to trick me into rolling in the grass with you?" Saora asked condescendingly.
Kon turned over revealing himself to be unharmed. "You ruined the moment," he said displeased.
"Let's go back to the cottage and have dinner together," Saora invited.
At the cottage, Kon took a shower alone and went to meet Saora for dinner. As expected in Kryptonian culture, only fruits and vegetables were available. Kon expertly sliced a pear into slices with a beam from his finger. He then used a telekinetic white beam to send the slices over to Saora to amuse her.
After dinner, the two hung out in the living room. "Ever since I saw you in that pod, I haven't stopped thinking about you," Kon admitted. "But now that I am with you in person, I'm in agony."
"Is my personality that bad?" Saora asked rolling her eyes.
"The closer I get to you, the worse it gets. I can't breathe," Kon confessed. "I feel haunted."
"What's your tale of woe, Kon," Saora asked interested.
Kon got up and faced away from her. "When I went back in time to the 21st century, I met a woman, a Violet Lantern. She was also a homosexual, but I scored nonetheless."
"Bravo," Saora complimented.
"She even had my child, but they were both taken from me by Insane rebels. After that, I slaughtered them, my own people. So as much as Kryptonians annoy me, I feel a deep rage against the Insane. A rage that wants to kill not just the men...but also the women...and the children. I want to slaughter them all like animals," Kon said reflectively.
"What's stopping you?" Saora asked curiously.
"Love, I suppose. Love for my parents, my sisters, my adoring fans, and you," Kon said sincerely. "But I have this scar on my heart that won't go away."
"You're not the only one with scars," Saora reminded him. "All my life, I was treated with scorn because my mother was second-in-command in the insurrection under Zod. I came to hate my own people just as you hate your people. When your mother nonchalantly revealed that she had killed my mother, my hate only grew from there."
"What are you proposing?" Kon asked confused.
"Our hate is what we have in common. It binds us together. Let us love one another as we hate on everyone else," Saora said.
"But it's what my mother wants. She's designed this whole thing. Bringing us together was her plan all along. How can my Insane pride bear it?" Kon wondered.
"We could keep it a secret," Saora suggested.
"You're right," Kon realized. "Only at the moment that my mother hates you so much that she wants to kill you, can I openly defy her."
"Is it hard to make your mother displeased?" Saora asked.
"Not at all," Kon shook his head.
"You are young, still attached to your mother, and desiring her affection and her hate. Tonight, let me be your mother, instead," Saora suggested.
"I see where this is going and I don't care to resist it," Kon said as he stripped off his robes.
The next morning, Kon was completely smitten with Saora. "Look at her. I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way, what bliss," Kon said as she slept. The red sunlight entered the room as it became morning greatly bothering her.
"The sun," Saora said to him in Insane.
"Saora, that's Insane," he said positively aroused for her. He immediately closed the windows for her.
"Kon, last night, you were unhinged, like a desperate howling demon, you made me uncomfortable," Saora told him.
"And?" Kon wondered.
"Do it again," Saora smiled.
VR Galactic Federation Senate
Kara addressed the Senate over the Lemnos threat. "In response to this direct threat to the Galactic Federation, I propose that we declare war on Lemnos and all of his associates."
The vote overwhelmingly went in her favor. Kara then spoke again. "It is with great reluctance that I agreed to this calling as your Supreme Leader, your commander in chief," Kara said with false sincerity. "I love democracy. I love this federation. The power you give me, I will lay down when this crisis has abated. And as my first act with this new authority, I will create a grand drone army to counter the increasing threat of the separatists."
Immediately, drone factories started mass-producing drones on all Galactic Federation planets.
New Krypton
Lemnos addressed the Kryptonian council. "As I have explained to you earlier, the Supreme Leader making her adopted sister an imperial princess, and rumors of her homosexuality will rally more systems to our cause. It is best to be on the winning side, the moral side."
"What you are proposing could be construed as treason against our race. The Supreme Leader is Kryptonian, after all," one councilwoman said.
"A Kryptonian that has disgraced your philosophy, way of life, codes of decency. A Kryptonian that has married and has children with an Insane prince. Her continued existence is an insult to you," Lemnos argued. "Now, the Techno Union and the Banking Clan have already pledged support to me. Once the Trade Federation pledges their support, we will have the greatest army in the galaxy. The Vindicators will be overwhelmed. The Galactic Federation will agree to any of our demands."
The Kryptonian council eyed each other. "The Imperial Prince, Kon-El, is here. Under our red sun, he should be without his powers."
"I shall put that to the test," Lemnos smiled.
Kon and Saora were minding their business at the cottage when they were suddenly attacked by Lemnos' men, bug humanoids. Kon went for his sword and immediately began slicing them up. The bug-men fired sonic blasters at Kon to distract him and punch holes through the cottage. Saora, depowered by the red sun, was taken hostage. The cottage was soon destroyed in the fight as Kon and the bug-men exchanged fire. In the end, the bug-men retreated taking Saora with them.
Saora was placed in a forcefield and then visited by Lemnos in the capital. "Figured my people would betray me…again," Saora said bitterly.
"Oh, no, this is a terrible mistake. I am the one that has gone too far. This has nothing to do with the Kryptonians," Lemnos replied.
"What do you want?" Saora asked.
"May I ask why a Kryptonian from the 21st century is out here on a planet with a red sun?" Lemnos asked.
"I'm avoiding bounty hunters trying to kill me," Saora replied.
"Well, there are no bounty hunters here. I can assure you of that," Lemnos replied. "I am surprised at the ease of your capture. It would appear Prince Kon-El's powers are drained while being here. Quite a pity, many considered him one of the most powerful warriors in the galaxy."
"Such a shame," Saora played along.
"You're new to this time. With my guidance, I can make you very powerful," Lemnos offered.
"You must be intoxicated if you think I would betray the House of El," Saora replied.
"The truth of the matter is that the Galactic Federation is not really under the control of the House of El but rather a sinister AI called Brainiac 5, from the same cloth as the original Brainiac that destroyed your world a thousand years ago," Lemnos revealed.
"I can believe it," Saora replied.
"Hundreds of systems are now under the influence of this Brainiac 5. You must join me, Saora-Ul, and together we can destroy Brainiac 5," Lemnos enticed.
"That sounds dangerous, time-consuming, and futile," Saora refused.
"It may be difficult to secure your release," Lemnos replied.
Lemnos brought several ships down to the planet resembling giant balls. A large infantry army of various alien races, armored vehicles, and artillery/rocket vehicles came forth to converge on Kon. "The red sun has weakened him but do not underestimate him. Capture him if you can, kill him, if necessary," Lemnos ordered his generals.
Kon flew straight at the army and fired energy beams at the enemy fuel cells causing massive explosions as they collapsed. Kon then landed and went Super Insane. "Impossible," Lemnos said dumbfounded. "How could he still have power? Send in all available units into battle."
On the ground, Kon fired on the ball-shaped spaceships causing them to explode on impact. Completely dismayed, Lemnos ordered his ships to retreat into space as Kon kept firing on them. Ground forces fired relentlessly toward Kon's position. Wheeled artillery vehicles fired off all their rockets at him with little effect.
"This isn't looking good," Lemnos realized. "Get the starships back into space," he ordered.
With his falcon vision, Kon focused on the artillery/rocket vehicles and fired on them blasting apart each one of them. Kon then started blasting away enemy platoons with each blast. As one of the ball-shaped starships attempted to retreat, Kon fired on it. The starship came back down with a thud creating a huge dust cloud.
Using his X-ray vision, Kon fired into the cloud taking out more ground infantry. Kon then took out his sword and used super-speed to slash through everyone that was left. With the separatist army in full retreat into space, Kon focused on Lemnos who was retreating away on a speeder. Kon caught up with him inside a hanger.
There, Lemnos attempted to bring Saora into his ship to continue his leverage. To his surprise, she easily broke off her cuffs as Kon arrived. "You're going to pay for slightly inconveniencing me today, Lemnos," Kon smirked.
"You allowed me to capture Saora, allowed me to think you were weakened, to bait me into attacking you with my full army," Lemnos realized.
"No shit," Kon smiled amused.
"Tell me how this is possible under a red sun," Lemnos demanded.
"It's called reserves," Kon said obviously. "And my Insane side has sufficient power to destroy planets and moons. No army could defeat me."
Lemnos then activated his Kryptonite sword. Just being near it made both Kon and Saora sick. "As you can see, I hold the advantage. Now, back down," Lemnos ordered.
"I don't think so," Kon said even as his power level was dropping.
The two clashed repeatedly with Kon put on the defensive. "Prince Kon-El, you disappoint me," Lemnos mocked. "Surely, you can do better."
After more repeated clashes, Lemnos finally sliced Kon in the arm and knee dropping him. Lemnos went for the kill went Saora intervened taking the blow. Lemnos sliced her across her back mortally wounding her.
"No," Kon said alarmed.
"Brave of you, girl," Lemnos complimented as he stood over them both.
Kon got back to his feet and fought Lemnos with furious energy. During the fight, Kon went in and out of Super Insane as the Kryptonite sword was taking its toll. The two fought evenly until Kon sliced off Lemno's arm disarming him. Kon then fell to a knee exhausted.
"It's obvious neither of us is in a condition to continue this battle," Lemnos said stunned. He then cloaked himself and disappeared. Kon kicked the Kryptonite sword a good distance away and then went over to Saora.
Earth
Kara and Mon were overseeing a large drone army assembling in formations when they got the news. "He did what? Holy shit. He had just one job," Kara said dismayed.
"Sounds pretty Insane to me," Mon said in his defense.
"Kon also plans to elope with Saora on New Krypton. How do you wish to proceed?" Brainiac 5 asked them.
Mon looked away, pained that Kon's first wife would be with a Kryptonian. "You'd think he would learn from my mistake."
"He is a slow learner," Brainiac 5 allowed.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean? This was planned by me all along except for the elope part. That part…pisses me off," Kara said annoyed.
"It would appear we have a new imperial princess," Brainiac 5 said obviously.
"Make the arrangements for a homecoming event when he returns to Earth," Kara ordered. She then turned away from Brainiac 5 and Mon as she shed a tear. Finally, her son had discovered how to love.
New Krypton
Kon and Saora recovered from their injuries and eloped at the lake as planned. "You put yourself in harm's way for me," Kon said appreciatively.
"A good death is its own reward," she replied.
"Thank you for choosing me," Kon said.
"Of course, mating with you will give our line an evolutionary advantage. And if history has proven anything, evolution always wins," Saora reasoned.
"For every descendant of ours…," Kon began.
"…will spawn a million more," Saora finished.
The two then kissed passionately. From that time on, Kon gave Saora New Krypton as a wedding gift and added it to the Galactic Federation.
