Ben had been gaining more fame. However, he decided to keep as much of a low profile as he possibly could. With his popularity growing, villains wanted to take him down. Ben had become a part of the group of superhero vigilantes that protected Bellwood. Unfortunately, some of the people didn't like superheroes because they believed that they were a threat. Ironically, they were the only ones who could keep Bellwood whole. Without them, Bellwood would've been abandoned a long time ago. Most of these superheroes could manage to keep villains away without causing too much destruction. However, some were new to the scene and still had to work on that part. Ben was one of the superheroes whose battles often end up causing lots of destruction. But in all fairness, it couldn't be helped. Fights were naturally destructive, and he was fairly new at this superhero thing.
Meanwhile, Gwen was still an ordinary person. But she had no problem with that, in fact she'd like to keep away from danger as much as possible. She didn't care if she was a superhero or not, what she cared about was being alive.
Everything changed for Gwen when she, Ben and Max took a trip to the local museum. Suddenly, two magicians entered the room they were in.
SMASH!
The Tennysons were surprised. When they looked to see who smashed through the windows, they saw a white-skinned man with a weird tattoo on his face and a white-haired girl with a purple robe. Their names were "Hex" and "Charmcaster".
"Bring me the spell book, or I shall destroy this place!"
After Hex shouted those words, everyone started running. They were terrified that two magicians were causing destruction in the museum. "Stop them!" Max said to Ben, before Ben nodded and slammed on the Omnitrix.
FLASH!
Black skin started forming around Ben, before his head became pointy. A long tail grew from his back, before his hands turned into claws. The Omnitrix then appeared on his chest.
"XLR8!"
Ben called this alien "XLR8", he had super speed so he would be useful against someone with magic. He dashed towards Hex and Charmcaster, before managing to make them fall down.
FWOOSH!
BAM!
"Ow!"
"Agh!"
THUMP!
THUD!
Hex and Charmcaster fell down, but they were able to quickly get back up again. Then, Hex started uttering a spell.
"Ablita Plazita!"
FWOOSH!
Ice started to form around Ben, before it froze him into place. Max then helped Ben by shooting at the ice with his blaster. "Your tricks will not help you, amateur. I am the real magician here!" said Hex. However, Ben dashed out of sight. Hex and Charmcaster became wary. Then...
FWOOSH!
BAM!
BAM!
"Agh!"
"Urgh!"
THUMP!
THUD!
Ben used another surprise attack on them. After Hex and Charmcaster got back up again, Hex finally had enough. He uttered another spell, and enhanced its power using his staff.
"Sonoris Fieros!"
FWOOOSSSHHH!
"AAH!"
FWOOSH!
Ben managed to avoid the flames that came out of Hex's staff (which was called the Staff of Ages). Max then started firing his blaster again. However, Charmcaster managed to deflect its lasers. She then reached into her purse, before throwing what appeared to be pebbles with purple linings on them.
CRACK!
ROOOAAARRR!
The pebbles turned into humanoid, dog and bat-like creatures. Now Max would have to fight multiple enemies, and that's what he did. He started firing again. But since there were too many rock creatures, they managed to overwhelm and make him fall down.
THUD!
"Oomph!"
"Grandpa!" yelled Ben, before he started creating a tornado made out of super speed. It sucked up Hex and Charmcaster, before throwing them far away from the museum.
FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH!
"AAAHHH!"
"AAAHHH!"
Meanwhile, the container that held the spell book that Hex was looking for broke. It shattered during the battle. Suddenly, the book started glowing white before flying towards Gwen. "H-Huh?!" Gwen said confused. Then, something happened with the book. The back of its front cover started to read "Property of: Gwendolyn Cathryn Tennyson". When Gwen saw this, she was confused. She wasn't complaining, but she wasn't sure of what was happening either. When Ben and Max saw this, they were just as shocked.
"Whoa! Looks like that thing chose you as its new owner."
"I-I guess so."
"Could you please return that?"
One of the female staff members of the museum said those last words, before trying to take the spell book from Gwen. However, it let out a flash of white before electrocuting the hand of the staff member. "Ow!" the staff member said in pain, before reeling her hand away from the book. It would seem that the book wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. -Aside from wherever Gwen wanted to take it.
"Looks like I'm not the only one with something stuck with them now." said Ben. Gwen then looked at the spell book again. Did it really just choose her to be its new owner? Why her? This was the question that ran through her head. But there was no time to think about that right now. Since one of the museum's room's were destroyed, the Tennysons just decided to head back to the Rustbucket.
A Few Hours Later...
Once the Tennysons got back to the woods they now permanently lived in, Max had already finished researching about Hex and Charmcaster. Hex was a weird magician, while Charmcaster used to be a normal teenage girl who was bullied for practically her entire life when she still went to school.
Some Time Later...
While the Tennysons were out on the road again, they saw Hex and Charmcaster once more. Max braked hard, before he, Ben and Gwen came out.
Hex was chanting a spell that would cause a lot of destruction, when suddenly...
FLASH!
Ben's face became scary-looking, before his eyes fused into one. His skin turned white, before his body changed into a ghost-like one. Black linings ran across him, before the Omnitrix appeared on his chest.
"Ghostfreak!"
Ben turned into an alien he called "Ghostfreak", his special abilities were to go intangible and invisible. After the blue light startled Hex, he and Charmcaster looked back. When they did, they saw Gwen and Max. "Hey weirdos!" shouted Gwen, before she flipped through the spell book and said "Ablita Plazita!".
FWOOSH!
SMASH!
Gwen used the same spell Hex used a while back, but it was ineffective as Hex managed to block it with a shield made out of magic. "The spell book! Give it to me!" he said, "You forgot to say please." Gwen joked before she started blasting white-colored magic towards him.
Hex managed to shield himself once more. Meanwhile, Charmcaster threw some rocks again before they turned into the rock creatures from a while ago. Max got ready and started firing with his blaster again.
PEW! PEW! PEW!
ROOOAAARRR!
Max tried to fight off the rock creatures once again. But just like before, he soon got overwhelmed. But luckily, Gwen was there to help him this time.
"Soralis Eratanichia!"
FLASH!
Gwen used an electricity spell, breaking some of the rock creatures. This made it easier for Max to fight the rest of them off. He then gave a thumbs-up to Gwen, who returned the same thing.
Meanwhile, Ben was sneaking up behind Hex and Charmcaster. All of a sudden...
FLASH!
"AAAHHH!"
"AAAHHH!"
He phased his hands through their heads! This was one of Ghostfreak's special abilities, he could knock out anyone using his powers. Hex and Charmcaster saw flashes of black and white, before they fell on the ground. Once Hex and Charmcaster were weakened, Gwen used the Ablita Plazita spell again to freeze them solid. However, this didn't really work the way she wanted it to.
SMASH!
With his magic, Hex was able to get himself and Charmcaster free from the ice. Then, he said "These games have delayed me long enough. Enough of this! Time for you to disappear!" before trying to chant another spell. But then...
"PEEK-A-BOO!"
"AAH!"
"AAH!"
Ben suddenly appeared in front of Hex and Charmcaster, scaring them. Then, he opened his chest up, revealing striped tentacles and a scary inside. This scared Hex and Charmcaster, giving both Gwen and Max the opportunity to take them down with magic and lasers.
FLASH!
PEW! PEW! PEW!
Hex and Charmcaster ended up getting stunned before falling down again. Just then, Ben grabbed them by their feet before dragging them towards random objects. The objects shattered as Ben dragged both Hex and Charmcaster towards them. After Ben felt like Hex and Charmcaster had been weakened enough, he threw them on the ground. They were knocked out.
A Few Minutes Later...
Soon, the police came. They took both Hex and Charmcaster away. However, they didn't get to do that for long as they both disappeared once they had the strength to do so. Soon, the Tennysons caught wind of this news. But they figured that this would happen. At least Hex and Charmcaster wouldn't be bothering anyone in Bellwood for a long time.
Meanwhile in the Rustbucket, Gwen looked at the spell book again. Her life would change from this point on. At least she wasn't ordinary or defenseless anymore.
