I was thinking back to setting fire to the bodies of the vampires. I still felt weird about being such a young girl. I was a little bit surprised that no one had tried to do something like this to me before, even though it didn't lessen my abilities. I had been in the body of a woman before, but those instances were usually brief and that only came with slightly enhanced strength and the ability to compel people. It reminded me of when I possessed that teacher in Mystic Falls. I also had to admit that trying to teach something that I wasn't prepared for was a miserable experience. I probably could teach, but not on a moment's notice.
"I cannot believe you disposed of those vampires without me." Rebekah declared. "You know how I love to set things on fire."
"Was I supposed to leave them in the front yard to rot?" I quipped. She had been out all night after all. "Besides they were my responsibility. They attacked a helpless pregnant girl who's carrying my child."
"That still sounds weird when you say it." Rebekah commented. "I guess I am moved by your new sense of motherly duty towards the werewolf carrying your hybrid bun in her oven."
I chuckled a little at her statement as Hayley walked into the room with Tina.
"The werewolf would like to know what the plan is." Hayley declared.
"Well that depends on what plan you mean, Love. My plan for global domination or Rebekah's plan to find love in a cruel, cruel world?" I responded. I probably wouldn't want to rule the whole world. It was probably too much work. Rebekah then threw a pencil at me, which I caught.
"The plan to rescue Elijah." Hayley told me. Well if this witch was as powerful as Rebekah said she was, it would be very difficult, especially since we didn't even know where she was. "You know the good brother, the one who is now in the possession of your mortal enemy after you stabbed him in the back."
"In the front if we're being specific." I corrected as I waved the pencil around. I also wouldn't consider Marcel to be my mortal enemy, especially since he wasn't mortal.
"You two said that you would get him back, so is there a plan or what?" Hayley asked. I wouldn't say that was the biggest issue at the moment.
"Okay, well firstly, Marcel is not my mortal enemy. He's my son." I pointed out as I took a seat. I did have to remember to sit a certain way in a skirt. "Albeit my son who is unaware of my plan to sabotage his hold over the supernatural community of the French Quarter, but my son nonetheless. And secondly, I daggered my brother in order to gain Marcel's trust. If I had known that he would place my brother in the hands of a particularly nasty teenage witch, I certainly would have weighed my options differently. And thirdly, well Rebekah…"
I was still interested in meeting this Davina. Her power intrigued me.
"And thirdly, the plan as you have demanded is for Odina to simply ask Marcel for Elijah back." Rebekah explained. I was pretty sure that she was secretly delighted at the fact of currently having a sister, even if she wouldn't say it.
"Would that work?" Tina questioned.
"Unlikely." I stated. I would still try it, even though I doubted it would work.
"That's not the whole plan, is it?" Hayley asked in disbelief.
"Oh please." Rebekah scoffed. "My sister may be a miserable excuse for a sibling, but there is no one more diabolical."
"It's only Plan A, Love." I added. "There's always a Plan B."
"And what's Plan B?" Hayley asked uneasily.
"War." I declared with a grin.
At that point, Tina turned on the TV to see her picture and gasped.
"Oh my god. What are my friends back home going to think about this?" She asked.
"They're going to think that you're dead. You're not going to be able go home, at least not for a while. I wouldn't put it past Marcel to cover up your death." I explained. "He probably thinks that I disposed of your body in a dumpster or something. I'll make sure he thinks it."
I then went to Marcel's house where he was apparently having a fitting. They were also talking about the vampires we had killed.
"Oh come now, Thierry, you're not still upset about that little toxic werewolf bite, are you?" I asked. "I thought we were at bygones."
"I see you've given her free reign of your compound now." Thierry spat.
"Well my family and I lived here. As a matter of fact, we built the place." I pointed out.
"Alright enough." Marcel mediated. "You both know the drill. Thierry is my guy from the old-time circle. Odina is my father…er mother and sire and she's also a guest here. Peace, alright? What do you need?"
"I'm afraid Rebekah is insisting that I demand Elijah's return." I stated. "She's quite worked up about it."
"I say…" Marcel noted.
"We're not going to have three Originals walking around, are we?" Thierry asked nervously. "Half our guys think Rebekah killed the nightwalkers."
"Is that an accusation?" I asked as I walked closer to him and got in his face. "Against an original?"
"What did I say about peace?" Marcel asked as he split us apart. "I think I should separate you two."
He took me out of the room as I noticed a frown on Thierry's face.
"Your inner circle man lacks a sense of humor." I noted.
"He's a little overprotective but loyal to a fault. We all didn't grow up with you and your sister around." He pointed out as we walked down the stairs "I saved his life back in the 40s, found him dying of a war wound outside a VA hospital. He'd kill for me and die for me. Plus that boy can play the trumpet like you'd never believe. Maybe I see if he can play tonight at the party. If you're going to come, you need a nice dress."
"How could I miss my chance to meet the city councilman as he accepts your gigantic charitable donation?" I quipped.
"He's a couyon but he lets us do our thing in exchange for certain community services like keeping our fangs out of the locals." He explained. Couyon was a Cajun term for idiot or fool. "Listen about your brother, I would love to help you out, but Thierry's right. My guys are on edge. They've seen the original family move in and suddenly vampires are dying. It makes them nervous. If I hand Elijah back now, it might give the wrong impression about who's really in charge here. Do you know what I mean?"
"It's understandable, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask." I declared. I then noticed Rebekah was calling me and went away to take it.
"Odina, for the love of Thor, how long does it take to ask a simple question?" She demanded.
"Much longer than you think considering the answer was as expected." I answered. "No. Marcel's man Thierry is suspicious. He thinks you killed ten nightwalkers."
"Well that's a lie. I only killed eight." She argued. I was pretty sure that didn't make things better. "Shall I make Thierry the ninth?"
"Marcel is playing friendly. We can't kill the favorite son or he'll catch onto us." I reminded her.
"So war it is then." She remarked. She really lacked the patience that I had.
"Indeed. Do you know what to do with the witch?" I asked.
"I believe I do." She replied. I wasn't talking about Davina because I didn't even know what to do with her yet.
"Good you manage Sophie Devereaux and I'll manage the next step." I declared as I hung up.
I was currently with Tina's friend Josh, who I figured I would use as a spy. He seemed to not be very good at my orders.
"I asked you to drain him of blood, what's taking so long." I questioned. I had captured one of Marcel's vampires.
"Sorry. Bloodletting isn't exactly my specialty." Josh remarked. I sighed and stabbed the vampire with a pitchfork. "What did he even do to you anyway?"
"It's not about what he did, it's about what's he's going to do." I explained. "Which after I get the vervain out of his blood, will be whatever I want. For example, drive this through his torso."
Josh obediently did as he was told.
"That is crazy. So are you telling me that Tina is still alive?" He asked.
"Yes, but you won't be telling Marcel or seeing her since he thinks she's dead." I pointed out. "And that is a technique called mind compulsion. Every vampire can do it, but Originals can do it to other vampires, but no one can compel Originals. Are you following good? That is how a brand new nightwalker such as yourself is doing my bidding, despite not knowing the wiser."
"But I never had my guts drained out of me." He noted.
"That young Joshua is because you never had even a drop of herbal vervain in your system." He declared.
"You know if you're going to get people to think you're a teenage girl, maybe you should try to talk like one." He proposed.
"I'm so like so mad at Marcel for not giving my brother back." I responded with a slightly higher voice. "No, I don't think I will."
"You know not all teenagers are valley girls." Josh pointed out. "You can just be less formal and use a few more slang terms."
"I'll consider it." I declared. "Anyway, this guy needs to be bled dry of vervain so I can compel him. And with my brother currently in captivity awaiting rescue, we can't be gentle about it."
I then stabbed him once again. I wasn't really of the mindset of trying to convince anyone either. The only human I had talked to was Cami and I was pretty sure that she already thought I was not normal.
Of course, we also needed to figure out who had mentioned Hayley to Marcel's crew. Rebekah was currently handling that.
"Keep at it." I told Josh. "I'm building an army and it's going to take more than one compelled minion to make an army."
At that point, Rebekah called me again.
"What?" I answered.
"You were right about the traitor. Luckily, she's just a kid and she doesn't know anything about us or what we're up to." She stated. "Do you want to hear the part that's going to please you the most?"
"Is that a trick question?" I challenged.
"She's in love with someone in Marcel's inner circle." She explained. "Guess who it is?"
I couldn't help but smile.
"I'm guessing his name rhymes with Carrie." I declared. "Now that is a scandal."
"Look at you sounding like a girl." She teased. I would frown if I wasn't so excited. "Thierry is fraternizing with the enemy."
"Well that makes him the key to our entire plan." I stated.
"I told you you'd be pleased." She bragged.
"Oh to be young and in love in a city where witches and vampires are at war." I mused. "This sounds like it is going to be an epic tragedy."
From there, we brought Sophie to our house where we had a proposition for her.
"You want me to do what?" She asked.
"It's very simple. We need you to do a simple locator spell to help us find Elijah." Rebekah explained as she paced the room.
"Witches who practice magic in this town get caught…and they get killed." Sophie reiterated.
"Yes it seems like you left out a crucial detail when we made our deal." I stated as I took a seat. "Marcel's secret weapon: the way he knows when a witch is using magic."
"A girl who's pretty short and really cute with anger issues." Rebekah added.
"D…Davina?" Sophie asked in shock. Now I was pretty sure that there was more to the story than we were being told. "W…where have you seen her?"
"I don't know. That little brat erased my memory." Rebekah explained. "And then she threw me on a window without even moving a finger."
"Let's make things clear. Davina has Elijah. You witches seem to want to get Davina away from Marcel and we don't know where she is." I stated. "So we need magic."
"Davina would sense it." Sophie pointed out.
"Not if another witch, say a traitor to the cause cast a different spell." Rebekah proposed. "That would create a smokescreen concealing your much smaller spell."
"Katie doesn't deserve to die." She declared.
"Sophie Devereaux!" I declared as I hit my hands against the table. "You don't need to be so principled. You can't win a war without casualties no matter how regrettable they may be. I'm sure your sister knew that. How many times have the vampires been one step ahead? How many times have the vampires been one step ahead? Did you sister even attempt to flee?"
"She was caught hiding in a cargo hold of a freighter before it set sail down the Mississippi." Sophie answered.
"And who of Marcel's valued inner circle manages his business at the docks?" I questioned.
"Katie's boyfriend Thierry." She answered.
I went back to Marcel's house where Thierry was playing his trumpet. It was impressed by it.
"You're right. He's good." I agreed.
"Music man I call him. Ladies love him. He knocks around with this pretty little witch." Marcel explained. Well, now I wouldn't be able to surprise him with that. "He says he loves her but I don't know."
"Do really not care that your best friend is dating your enemy?" I questioned.
"Well of course I care, but Thierry is a grown man and he can make his own decisions." He argued. "Not to mention, I can get some good intel. Besides, he won't do anything to jeopardize what we're doing here. A vampire is hosting a ritzy charity event. We have a community here. No one is messing that up."
"Still what if the witches are getting too bold considering a witch's tip about a werewolf led to the disappearances of your four nightwalkers." I responded. "What if it was a trap?"
"Maybe I can send a message then." He proposed. "Thierry, take a team of nightwalkers to The Cauldron tonight. Do a little rousting and make it nasty. Now I bet you're not the most equipped when it comes to women's fashion, so why don't I have someone take you shopping."
"I've taken my sister enough times that I know enough." I declared. I did not want a chaperone at the moment. "But I probably should get a dress, so I will see you later."
While I was shopping, I got another call from Rebekah.
"I'm trying to find something to wear tonight, so make it quick." I demanded.
"I'll just have you know that I have insured that Marcel will be distracted tonight." She replied. "I did my bit. What are you doing to make sure Elijah returns to us."
"Currently, I'm providing insurance for the lovers." I declared.
"What does that even mean?" She questioned.
"We need proper motivation for Katie to cast a powerful spell tonight." I answered. "I am going to create that motivation. Marcel has ordered a rousting of the witches and I have made sure that it will end with a bitter tragedy. Marcel may not be concerned with Thierry's romance, but he can't exactly forgive other crimes. If Thierry kills a vampire, well that will be a problem. If can't wants to save her boyfriend from Marcel, she'll need to use magic."
The party was a masquerade and at the compound, so Rebekah and I arrived together. I was wearing an expensive navy gown with a matching mask. Even though it was a party, I had a feeling that the elusive Davina wouldn't be there. I had to applaud Marcel's party planning because it seemed like he had gone all out. He had dancers and acrobats that looked like they were out of Cirque du Soleil.
"Well this theme is going to be fitting for what is about to go down." I told her.
"Why are you talking like that?" She questioned.
"It was brought to my attention that I should try to sound younger." I replied. It was then that I saw Cami was there, dressed like an angel. "You didn't tell me that she would be here."
"How did you think I was going to distract Marcel?" She asked. Okay, that was a part of the plan that I did not approve of.
Rebekah went over to her and started to talk to her. I had to admit that I felt a little bit lonely. The hardest part of leaving Mystic Falls was leaving Caroline because I was pretty sure that I was close to breaking through to her. I then walked over.
"You know you look a little young for this party." Cami told me.
"Well I can't miss a good party even I can't have any drinks." I declared. I would still have some, I would just have to be careful who saw me with them. "My sister was correct. You look lovely."
"Well you look pretty good yourself." She complimented.
"You shouldn't be fooled. I'm the devil in disguise." I quipped.
"Oh I know all about teenagers being monsters." She countered.
"Well I am going to get a drink. Keep my sister away from it." Rebekah declared. She was really taking to being older than me now to heart.
"So that's Marcel. He's the guy that I'm kind of seeing." Cami explained. I couldn't help but wonder how much Marcel had erased. "You know I'm beginning to think your sister is a bit of a bitch."
"Now that's true." I replied with a laugh. "Well it looks like someone is coming to see you."
Davina's POV
The thing about being stuck in this attic was that I was alone most of the time. Marcel was throwing this lavish party and I couldn't go because there was a risk of someone seeing me. The good news was that he had at least bought me a dress to wear. A lot of people seemed to think that Marcel was the devil, but he wasn't. He took me in without even knowing my name and he was the closest thing to a father that I had ever had. He also told me that if it was ever safer, he would throw a party in my honor.
Odina's POV
Rebekah and I both watched as Marcel danced with Cami. I could tell that she was jealous. The two of them were talking about how and how Rebekah looked younger barely old enough to drink.
"At least I do look old enough to drink." She replied.
"Well it's a good thing that I don't have to follow human laws." I declared as I took a sip from my glass. "You know you really are a bitch to toy with his heart like that."
"Nonsense. They're perfect for each other and you can't say that Marcel isn't distracted." She remarked.
At that point, I saw Diego walk in. He was not dressed for the occasion. I saw him whisper something in Marcel's ear, but I was pretty sure that I knew exactly what he was saying. He was telling him of Thierry's act of betrayal.
"Well that's my cue to leave." Rebekah stated before she walked off. I then saw Thierry walk over. I needed to make sure that Marcel upheld his own rules, even for one of his closest friends to show that no one was above the law. I could see the look of conflict on his face. I saw him grab his friend by the neck.
Davina's POV
I had gone to bed, still wearing my dress when I suddenly felt something. It was something that I felt before. I sense that some magic was happening. Something bad was happening and I knew that I needed to tell Marcel about it. They would be going after him. I started to draw the location as I tried to get a clear view. I needed to know who was casting the spell and how to stop them.
Odina's POV
I stood close enough so I could hear what Marcel was saying but not close enough that I could be seen. Marcel was pissed at Thierry. He was trying to do his best not to kill right there. Thierry seemed to be pleading for his life. I had to say that I was quite pleased with the results. I loved it when a plan worked out the way that I wanted it. Of course it was also close enough that Cami could see him.
"Are you alright?" I asked her.
"He has a temper, doesn't he?" She questioned.
"Yes but he knows better than to take his anger out on a woman." I told her.
"It would probably still be a good idea for me to run now." She stated before she walked away. At that point, Josh came over to me and I handed him the piece of paper that I had created. Part of me felt bad for what I was doing to Marcel, but you couldn't have a war without a few hurt feelings.
"We found this at his girl's place." Josh declared as he handed it to Marcel.
"Still my friend, huh?" Marcel asked. "Cause it looks to me like your little witch friend got her hands on the spell that I keep locked away."
"Marcel, I have never seen that." Thierry argued.
"Shut up!" Marcel ordered. "I see on your hand you still have the daylight ring that I gave you. So what would you need for the recipe for making new ones."
I actually wished that I had been able to provide Tina with one, but I didn't have a witch with the ability to do that.
"Were you Katie going to go off and start a little kingdom of your own?" He accused.
"Marcel, no!" Thierry pleaded.
"Here's a lesson in friendship. Friends don't lie to me. They don't break my rules and they do not steal what is mine!" Marcel responded before he came over to the balcony. He looked distraught. He then walked back over to Thierry. "For the crime of murdering one of his own, I sentence Thierry Vanchure to one hundred years in the garden. Effective immediately."
Hmm I personally thought that he would kill him, but it sounded like it might have been a fate worse than death and I supposed it still left a chance for parole.
"It begins." I declared.
I watched as Marcel began to do what was commonly referred to as a perp walk.
Davina's POV
I scribbled furiously as I tried to find the source of the magic. It usually only took me a few minutes to do so but it was not a pleasant time. It caused me emotional distress. The image started to become clearer and I was able to sketch a portrait of the witch. I could see her. I saw her attacking Marcel. I rose my hands, basically acting a puppeteer to prevent him from going down and to give him strength. The witch cast a spell at him and I felt the pain of it. However just when it looked like all was lost, Odina came and severed the connection and I assumed kill because I couldn't feel the magic anymore. I took some deep breaths before I could feel something faint. It seemed like someone else was trying to cast a spell as well before I could do anything else, the magic stopped.
Odina's POV
I went over to Marcel after breaking Katie's neck. I wasn't sure if Rebekah and Sophie had been able to complete their end, but I didn't have time to wait. I needed to act fast and deal with her before Marcel could be killed. Even though he had taken everything that mine, I didn't want him dead. I did not want to lose another kid. Thierry cradled Katie's body as he wept.
"Thank you." Marcel remarked as he took some deep breaths. I knew that this part was over, but I still didn't know if Marcel was going to return Elijah to us. I then got a message from Rebekah that she and Sophie had failed. Well that was just great.
From what I understood the garden was a prison where vampires would be starved until they desiccated. That was definitely a fate worse than death. It probably wasn't as bad as the hunter's curse, but I knew that it wouldn't be a pleasant feeling. Even though I was sort of an expert on torture, I would not subject someone to slowly drying out. When it happened to me, it had been instantaneous.
When Marcel returned, I proceeded to give him a drink and he downed it quickly.
"How much did Cami see?" He asked.
"She just saw an argument and I told her that you would never take your anger out on her." I told him. "You probably won't even need to compel her to fix it. You really like her, don't you?"
"I like that she's not a part of any of this." He stated. "Sometimes it's good to see the whole the way the humans do."
"I am sorry about Thierry, you know." I remarked. There was still some remorse. "I can tell that he was a good friend."
"I made him what he was. Obviously, my trust was misplaced." He replied.
"That still doesn't make it easier." I pointed out before I had some of my own drink.
"You saved me tonight." He noted. "I guess I owe you one. You asked for your brother back. It seems like the least that I can do."
I then went to a bar and walked inside and there was Cami. I felt guilty and I really did want Marcel to be happy…just not as the ruler of the city.
"Okay, it's definitely too late for you to be here." She declared. "Why do you do so much for him anyway?"
"He's like family." I remarked. "I know that you've been hurt before and you don't want to take any more chances."
"Something like that. The guy that I saw tonight is not the guy that I thought he was." She replied. "And if he can turn on a dime like that…"
"That sounds like more than just a broken heart." I noted. "Someone broke your trust. I know that he seems like a lot, but trust me Marcel is worth it. You and Marcel danced, you feel badly that he had a fight with his friend, but otherwise it was perfect."
I then went home to see Rebekah was seated at the piano, not playing, just seated. I walked over to her.
"Well tonight was an epic failure." She said.
"I disagree. Tonight went really well." I argued.
"Are you mad? Katie died before Sophie could complete the spell." She remarked.
"I know. I'm the one who killed her." I replied.
"You what?" She asked as I poured myself some scotch.
"She was trying to kill Marcel. I couldn't wait any longer." I told her. "I saved his life and now he owes me a favor."
"Sophie trusted you. I trusted you against all my better instincts." She responded.
"Did you expect me to just watch him die?" I challenged. "He may not be my blood, but I am not going to let that happen again. Not to mention, the witches are on no one's side but their own. All they want is Davina. What do you think will happen when they have her? Do you honestly think that they care about protecting Hayley? They're using us to get to her."
"Even if you're right, the plan was to find Elijah and you failed us." She argued.
"You always did lack faith." I declared. "By protecting Marcel, I have cemented his trust, so much so that he has agreed to return Elijah to us and when I find Davina, I will have her power for myself."
"I know that you'll get what you want, You always do, no matter what it costs the rest of us." She remarked. "You disgust me."
She then drank the glass and threw it onto the ground. I would need to get Tina to clean that up.
Davina's POV
I looked over Elijah's body before I suddenly heard the door open and let up my guard. I then noticed it was Marcel and went over and hugged him.
"You're okay." I declared. "I was so worried."
"Thank you. Whatever you did I felt it." He explained. "You helped me."
"It was the Old Ones, wasn't it?" I asked.
"Actually Odina is the one that saved me tonight." He replied. "I'm gonna make things right, starting off by giving her their brother back."
"No." I argued. He seemed to be caught off-guard by me saying that.
"What? Davina…" He responded.
"No. You said that they were dangerous." I reminded him. "I won't give him back until I know how to kill them."
Odina's POV
I walked down the hall and saw that Hayley was still up and typing away on her computer. I could see the Wi-Fi was working.
"That is a killer dress." She complimented.
"Fitting because I killed someone wearing it." I declared. "I think you'd like to know that Elijah is returning to us."
"Congratulations, I guess being diabolical has its perks." She responded. She couldn't really judge me for murder considering that she led twelve hybrids to be killed by me.
"You know it's amazing how you miss him so much considering that you hardly know him." I declared. "What is it about my brother that always inspires such instant admiration?"
"He was kind to me." She answered as I started to leave. "Hey. I learned something today. I think it's a girl."
I just hoped that I wouldn't screw up this time.
So not a lot changed in this chapter. We did get to see more of Davina. How will the first meeting between our protagonists go? Please don't forget to review.
