"When Nolan Grayson left the Earth. His mind drifted off for the first time in a hundred years, whether it was because of his Viltrumite side battling his emotions to focus on the mission? Or was it that his father side was overwhelming him on killing his son who decided to go against him. Whether or not it mattered, Nolan knew that he lost. Even to the point where he thought about allowing himself to be swallowed by a black hole due to how he couldn't be either a Viltrumite or a father. Though at a moment of ending his life, he saw a Thraxan ship about to fly into the blackhole. He didn't know what overcame himself when he was inches away to accept death, but he saved them. Nolan took the ship back to their home where they thanked him for saving the crew's life, which caused Nolan to feel the same emotion he felt when he did the same action when he arrived on Earth. While he could neither go back to Earth nor possibly ending his life after saving the people, Nolan believed he had to rebuild himself. Possibly figure himself out, to hopefully one day see his son again. To see him become someone than he met when he left Earth."
Morning-Thraxa
Standing in the same spot as when they'd arrived to the palace. Mark stood in front of his father who had been gone for about two years, leaving him with numerous questions about what he was doing here and what he's done to the people here. Sledge was unsure of how to react to the moment as his hand was ready to pull out his blaster and start firing at him regardless of where they were.
"Dad?"
Mark muttered at Nolan before slowly walking over and removing his mask in order to look directly at his father. He shared an intense stare at his dad as he didn't say anything towards him. Sledge himself kept quiet as his fingers were inches away from his weapon unsure of when he could attack, he only watched at how the two continued to be silent at this sudden reunion.
"Shit! This kid is going go all out and turn this place into a battlefield."
Thinking to himself as Sledge didn't want anyone to hear how he could have been responsible for Thraxa's sudden destruction when he arrived here. It was cut short due to a surprise reaction that neither he nor Nolan would expect, which was Mark hugging him in a sudden motion. It caught Nolan off guard as he thought he'd have to fight his son again, only to remember being given a hug that he thought had lost the right when he beat Mark to a pulp.
"I've missed you."
Nolan spoke out on how he's missed Mark for a while. Especially what he did to him when he left Earth, the moment went away as Mark moved back to get focus on how he was still upset with what he had done to the people Earth as well what he said about his mother.
"Did you put them up to this? It's bad enough you leave Earth and call mom a pet. You decide to try it again with planet that don't know the real you?"
Mark asked him straight out since he didn't want to fall for this moment of weakness in not seeing his dad again. Nolan, already seeing his son getting into a defense state remain calm and decided to take his time to explain this reason of deception.
"No. I need your help and have to explain."
"Explain what?! Help you try and get this place under control? You already have it by the looks of it. What did you had to do? Kill half of their people to prove you can wipe them out without blinking an eye?"
Mark interrupting Nolan as the father remain calm about how his son was reacting to what had happened to him. It was difficult to react to him since it had been a while in seeing his son defying him, especially over what happened back on Earth. He also saw how Sledge kept his distance since it was a family matter that had to be handled by themselves and no one else.
"I know you're upset about what I did. It was a mistake, but right now there is something terrible about to happen. And I need your help."
He asked for help which took Mark by surprise since the last thing he'd ever hear from his dad was needing help. Despite calling his mom a pet, killing the guardians and possibly hundreds of humans during their fight back on Earth. He needed help, it took Sledge by surprise as well since he already knows Nolan can handle himself. The son took a moment in thinking of what to say to his father for his plead and placed his mask over his head as well taking a step back.
"Fuck you dad."
Responding to his plead as Nolan can see he was still upset with him due to his deception. Before saying a word, Mark shot up into the air like a missile to fly away from him and the planet. With how it seemed impossible for him to hear Nolan's explanation behind this ploy, Sledge gave his dad a moment to gesture to wait there since he was the only one he could talk to. Starting up his jetpack, he launches up into the air following Mark as he saw him reaching the outer limits of the planet.
"You won't make it Mark. At best you'll have an hour in space before passing out before reaching a moon or two."
Calling out on how it was impossible to travel back to Earth without a ship as well flying across space without a suit. Unable to accept the possibility of Sledge being right, he stops in midflight and looks over at Sledge who came by himself without being followed by his dad.
"If your thinking of me staying here and listening to him then you are literally. The dumbest alien I've ever met. He almost broke your spine and beat me half to death, now all of a sudden you want to hear him out?"
Questioning Sledge of on thinking of staying here and hearing out what Nolan had to say. While Mark was correct on staying here was a mistake because of what his father did to them, it seemed urgent if he needed him here. With how he was called out on almost dying on Earth, Sledge decided to forget the moment of how he was inches away from death and focused on what was happening right now.
"I'm not saying what he's doing was right. Especially how I wanted to shoot the hell out of him when I saw his face, but you should look at the bigger picture of this situation. He's scared."
Reminding him that with how Nolan had handled practically everything on Earth without showing any emotion. This might be the first time the two have noticed a sign of desperation if he needed Mark's help in whatever might be happening. Looking over at the ground and seeing his father standing in the same place where he took off, the young man groans in annoyance that he is going regret what Sledge says as he eventually caves in and flies back to the ground. Sledge followed while secretly smirking at him winning the argument with the kid, though also on edge as well since he needed to be ready for whatever exactly Nolan might be worried about.
"Five minutes."
Mark told his father the minutes of how long he'd listen to what the situation was. Seeing him listen and giving him the chance to explain himself and the reason for being here, Nolan guides the two into the palace where they see several Thraxans maintaining the building and watering the plants.
"To clarify I didn't conquer this world. I found them after I saved one their ships and brought it here, then they asked me to stay as their emperor."
Nolan correcting his son on how he thought he had done almost the same attempt on taking over the world. Despite hearing it didn't make Mark trust him less, since he continued to remember the memory of what he said to him in front of the world. Sledge on the other hand could notice that he was telling the truth about not conquering them, there was no sign of fear but joy in seeing Viltrumite man passing by with a genuine smile. Continuing to lead them down the hallway into another room, they saw a female Thraxan cleaning the tables and possibly setting up a meal for Mark and Sledge.
"Mark, Sledge. This is Andressa. She's one of the passengers I saved on the ship when I first arrived here."
He introduced the two to Andressa as she greeted them due to how she's heard of them from Nolan. Walking over to greet her, they shared a kiss that surprised Mark since he didn't imagine seeing his father kissing a bug woman. Sledge on the other hand didn't react since there were many couples that involved them being either non-humanoid as well robotic.
"Please tell me this wasn't the reason why you brought me here. To tell me that your done with mom and moved on to another life."
Mark questioning if this was the real reason since the emotions building up within him was out of shock and anger due to how he moved onto another woman who didn't know the real him. Sledge stopped Mark from overreacting since he'd would eventually have to know this is what happens when someone leaves their old world behind, they have to start a new one.
"No. It's because there's a life, I need you to protect."
Responding to his son on who's life had to be looked after in which Nolan asked Andressa to head into the back to show him what he meant. She nodded as the Thraxan heading into another room where the boys noticed how quickly she came back, but not alone. In her arms was an infant with purple skin and black hair, what stood out was that he wasn't an Thraxan but looked almost like Mark when he was little.
"This is your little brother."
Introducing the child to Mark as Sledge could see how he was trying to accept this news of having a brother. Almost ready to curse out on what the meaning of this was, the bounty hunter coughed at the moment seeing that while disturbing it was to learn about having a new sibling. He needed to focus and not let himself get angry since it usually ended up getting him beaten up.
"Another kid to look after? I already have my hands full with this one. Not to mention that I'm not the babysitting type."
Sledge questioning on if he'd be the one to look after the infant as Mark couldn't handle the news and left the room. Seeing this response made Nolan realize how difficult he'd react to this, especially how he wasn't a full Viltrumite but half since this is how most of his race would do this. Deciding to see him alone, Sledge was left with Andressa as well the infant as she walked over to let the armored hunter get a better look at him. Following Mark right near the balcony of his palace where he was trying his best to not lose himself.
"Do you know that mom is going through hell right now because of what you did? That despite the help she's getting from me and the others, everyone still treats her like she's a monster due to her being related to you."
Informing his father about Debbie's situation on how despite Sledge's friends giving her company and that of his friends go through this problem. She was dealing with other issues by herself that neither Mark nor anyone else could help her. Hearing this news made Nolan feel upset at what he had done to her, even though she told him to leave once she learned about his killings of the Guardians.
"I never intended on that happening, nor replacing you or her when I left. But after I met these people, something changed in me. The feeling of helping again came back and, I stayed here."
Nolan doing his best to offer comfort on how despite meeting another woman and having a child. He didn't attempt to start a new life due to the effect that Debbie and Mark had given him. Noticing how silent his son was acting to the news as well him having a new life, Nolan walked by his side and stood there looking over the view seeing how the Thraxans were living in peace. Not knowing the trouble their emperor was in.
"But they don't deserve what's coming. The Viltrum empire are strict on interspecies relationships, the only ones we be with are those similar to us. Even now they know about my failure to assimilate Earth and are sending troops to replace me. And make no mistake they'll not hesitate to kill anyone who stands against them."
He stated in a firm manner how the threat of his people coming to Earth was happening and would push Mark in fighting them. Even if he wasn't their enemy, they'd pick up where Nolan was supposed to have finished it. Mark didn't know whether his dad was asking to be brought in to fight this army or possibly try again to bring the Earth under his rule in order to spare them. Continuing to give him the silent treatment and not say anything, Nolan decided to tell him what he needed from Mark and possibly Sledge since he could withstand his fighting.
"You don't have to forgive me. I need you to look after your brother. He's innocent in all of this as well the Thraxans."
Requesting for him to protect his brother despite just meeting him just a few seconds ago. Noticing how Mark was pushing his fingers into the balcony rails on him doing this for Nolan and handling a problem that he was the one to start in the first place. Slowly let's go as it was a sign that he was getting stronger, which would make it more of a threat for when the empire would come after him. Looking at Nolan directly in his eyes with a serious expression, he knew what to say to him.
"Fuck you. Also, that I'm not doing this for you. But because it's your fault that you made this place and the people here sign their death warrant. Which they don't even deserve. Second, I'm not killing. Because I'm not you."
He stated as Mark agreed on helping out with protecting the Thraxans and fighting off whatever might come after his 'brother' since he'd be targeted by the empire. Nolan responded to Mark with a firm nod on helping him, but the moment was cut short with the two hearing the sky making a booming sound. While Mark couldn't understand what hit the ground that fast, Nolan was able to see from afar as Viltrumite soldiers arriving right when he'd hope to prepare his son for the fight.
"Guess that's the threat you've been telling us about."
Sledge spoke from behind as he had already armed his blaster and had Andressa behind him while holding the infant child scared at what was going on outside. Looking over on the outskirts of the city, Nolan knew where she and his child would be safe.
"Andressa will show you to the mountains, they won't be able to find you. Sledge and I will handle the soldiers."
Informing Mark of what to do since it seemed impossible to prepare him for the surprise attack the Viltrumites had commenced. While he thought Sledge going with his father was a bad idea, the hunter only glared at him since it was his turn in looking after someone that actually needed protecting. Carrying Andress and the infant in his arms, he flew away from the palace to where the three would be safe and away from the fight. Both Nolan and Sledge stood firm staring at the destruction the soldiers were causing to the Thraxan civilians.
"I hope these aren't friends of yours. Because I'm going take all the pain you gave me and give it to one of those bastards."
He stated to Nolan as Sledge wanted to have a rematch with him due to almost killing him back on Earth. Though he now had a chance to do with a Viltrumite that he barely knew, to which he starts off his jetpack and flies directly to where the fighting was happening. With hearing that and seeing that he had no problems with killing the soldiers, Nolan only hope that Mark would understand that he'd would have to do the same and kill if he hoped to survive this encounter.
Later-Thraxan Mountains
Traveling away from the fight and reaching to the caverns where no one could find them, Andress took Mark into the depths where they could remain hidden until Nolan and Sledge had driven the Viltrumites out of the city. Despite him not liking the idea of him and his mother being replaced by the bug woman and his half-brother, Mark couldn't blame them. They don't know what type of man his father his or what he did back on Earth, yet it didn't seem to matter due to what was happening outside.
"I didn't have the time to ask what his name was."
He asked Andressa about the infant's name since he wanted to change the subject to ignore what was happening outside. Along try to comfort himself in knowing what his brother was called seeing how he almost looked exactly like him when he was younger.
"We allow children to choose their own name once they come of age. Thraxan lifespans aren't like humans. Only one of your years. He is four months old in your earth years."
She explained about how his dad hadn't given him a name, it caught Mark off guard since it seemed that the baby would mature quickly in the coming months. Andressa saw how the older son was reacting her son as he was trying to coop with this revelation, but knew she'd have to explain something important due to the situation they were in.
"I didn't knowingly try to replace you or your mother. I only fell in love with him when he saved me and my crew when we almost drifted off into a black hole. It was after he told me his story, I'd felt sorry for the things he's committed. Especially what he did to you, it was the reason why he was near the black hole when he saved me."
Describing what happened when she first met him and how he didn't plan on having another family. Hearing that left Mark almost sorry for his father since what he had said to him back on Earth could have driven him to end his own life. Continuing to look at his brother and slowly smile at there being a chance he could learn to look after him and somewhat repatch the relationship he has with his father. They suddenly heard something crashing through the ceiling which forced Andressa to take her son to a spot where they could hide from the surprise attack, taking a moment to get serious. Mark look at what looked like one of the Viltrumites that came after his father, he had dark skin with the mustache his father had.
"So your the son that Nolan had back on Earth. I thought you'd be bigger."
Making a comment about Mark's size as he stood firm in possibly having to fight the Viltrumite. Taking a minute to examine Invincible and seeing how he was acting towards him, the soldier decided to explain the situation to him.
"Despite that. If you fight well then you will be allowed to join the empire, though if not. You'll die."
Giving him the offer if he could survive the fighting as the Viltrumite was interrupted by the child's crying as Andressa was trying her best to keep him quiet. Seeing how he reacted to his brother, Mark rushed directly at the man doing his best in attacking him. The man barely moved as he back handed Mark against the wall without any trouble as he barely felt the punches. Pinning Mark's head to the ground with one finger, the Viltrumite began to push him downwards causing him to sink into the rocks.
"Are you sure your Nolan's son? And not an insect like these creatures?"
Asking Mark as he continued to push him further until he was buried into the ground. Doing his best to resist the push, the Viltrumite was stopped by an incoming object as he was sent hurling into the wall. It was Sledge who arrived with half of his armor destroyed and his face being exposed due to the fighting he did with Nolan outside.
"Decided to find the kid than fighting me Lucan? And I thought Viltrumites are fighters, not cowards."
He mocked Lucan on bailing from the fight as it resulted in him charging into Sledge as the two began to battle each other. The impacts they delivered caused the caverns to shake and almost topple onto itself, especially a stalagmite toppling over Andressa which Mark was fast enough to stop it from hurting her and the child. Lucan getting the upper hand and headbutting Sledge against the wall, he began to choke Sledge due to the comment he made about being a coward.
"You know nothing of being a Viltrumite! Especially how you do not deserve the right to die by the hands of one!"
Lucan yelled in anger as Sledge took the opportunity and copy Nolan's attack when he was assaulted by the Immortal. He made a chop directly to Lucan's stomach which split open revealing his intestines, moving back at how the hunter was able to cut open his stomach. Sledge ripped one of the stalagmite's off and stabbed him directly into the open wound and pushed him up towards the whole to hang.
"Then it's humiliating that your going die by mine."
Responding back as Sledge lets go of the rock and looked over at Mark who had kept Andressa safe during the fight. Walking over to check on the mother and son to see no wounds on them, the hunter looked outside where the fighting was still going on.
"Nolan wanted me to tell you to head deeper into the caverns. Mark? We got two more of these bastards left. Time to play dirty."
Relying the message that his fathered wanted to tell them as he launched off first to join back into the fight. Mark was still concern for Andressa and the baby since he didn't want them to be left alone, but she only nodded towards him to help his father. Flying upwards to join up with Sledge and Nolan, Mark had to focus on not holding back and stopping the Viltrumites from continuing their assault.
Later-Thraxan Palace.
It had been only half an hour when the soldiers had arrived to Thraxa, but they had almost leveled the city and killed half of the population in order to find Nolan. Despite his best effort in stopping his own people from killing the Thraxans that took him in, he couldn't save them all. Sledge and Mark had arrived to see the distraught father standing there looking at the destruction that caused because of him. Mark wanted to try and speak to him in seeing if he was alright, only to receive him getting choked due to the anger that was building up in him.
"Why? Why do I care about them? They were weak, short-lived, barely a species."
"That doesn't mean they should die."
Mark responded back at Nolan and felt his grip tightening around his neck. Sledge was ready to shoot him in the face but he was stopped by the kid since he saw him breaking down due to what his father was seeing. More importantly what he was feeling since that was what he should have felt back on Earth.
"You don't understand! I'm not supposed to feel this way! How is this better?!"
Questioning his son about why instead of ignoring the Thraxans and their home being destroyed, he felt sorry for them as well didn't want their deaths. It frustrated him on how he could try and ignore the feeling, but it only grew due to how they cared for him despite not knowing his true nature. Mark seeing his father on the brink of breaking down, it was the type of feeling he should have had felt when he told him the truth long ago.
"This is how you should have felt on Earth. Because they didn't deserve to die because of what they are. Because they're not you, dad."
Explaining to his father how neither the Thraxans nor Humans were like the Viltrumites. That despite being flawed and weak, they still had the right to live and grow like everyone in the galaxy. Sledge still itching to shoot Nolan despite getting the lecture about developing emotions for weaklings, he lets go to hear that of a subtle chuckle coming from above the three as they saw two Viltrumites staring down at them. One was a man with blonde hair with a set of matching visors, the other was a woman with white braided with a blade sticking at the end.
"So this is where the great Nolan has been hiding. Amongst these weaklings, disgraceful. It even goes further to allow someone else to kill Lucan."
The blonde commenting on how their former colleague had ended up here and not conquering his designated planet. Before he could respond on how he could kill both of them, there was a yawn coming from the side of the destroyed rubble. They looked over to see what looked like a candle like devil with his tail moving left to right at the sight of the five about to begin the fight.
"You all are making such a racket that it's giving me a headache. Thought you have found him by now and, Sledge. Isn't this a surprise?"
He asked the bounty hunter as Sledge was able to recognize the alien and had gotten scared. Moving back at his arrival, Mark was concern since there weren't that many people that could scare him.
"Where are my manners. They call me Singe, I'm from the same part of the galaxy where Sledge and his motley crew come from. I had barely a choice in coming here, but. Like any hired gun, our bosses make us to things we don't want to do."
Introducing himself to the three as well how he was forced to come here and work with the Viltrumites. Singe slowly raised his arms up and placed his hands near the mirror on his chest, they saw it quickly glowing as well engulfed in fire.
"Flame flare!"
Singe announces his attack as he shot a beam of energy out of his chest and into Sledge which sent him flying out of the palace. Taking his chance and giving chase towards the hunter, Nolan took the opportunity to attack the blonde haired Viltrumite leaving the other one to fight Mark.
"Cause your Nolan's son. I'll make this quick."
She stated to Mark as she flies directly towards Mark and punches him across the palace towards the outside where they could properly fight. There were now three battles happening around the city as well them happening on the ground and in the air, Sledge was having his hands full with Singe as the candle themed devil was attacking him with his sword.
"How the hell are you even here Singe?! It's not even possibly to get here!"
Questioning the attacker as he quickly grew into his magna form and tried to crush him with his new size. Avoiding the giant's blows as well how each attack made the ground shake, Singe was able to rush up toward's Sledge face to deliver a fire attack from his hands which blinded his eyes.
"You're not the only one with the means of traveling to different points of the galaxy. Though that's the least of your concern with who I'm with."
Taunting Sledge with someone that knew him as Singe was able to deliver another flare attack that forced him to shrink down to size and drop to the ground. Meanwhile in the air was Nolan continuing his fight with the blonde Viltrumite as he noticed the new ally that was fighting Sledge.
"The Viltrum's never needed any outside aid in their pursuit of worlds Vidor. What's the meaning of it?"
Questioning the soldier as well blocking the attacks as he didn't answer Nolan due to how he'd betrayed the empire and deserved nothing from him. Despite the two fights being fought equally, Mark was having difficulty with the female Viltrumite as she was using her blade to cut several parts of his body to try and take him out quick. Half bleeding and having his suit cut up, Mark continued to stand while protecting himself from her attack. Before she could go for the kill, Nolan flew in to send her flying into several rocks in order to protect Mark.
"You can't hold back Mark, this isn't Earth. Don't think, act! Because if you don't then your going die, your brother and everyone else on this planet will if you stop holding back."
Warning him on not thinking like Invincible but as a Viltrumite. It led to Mark ignoring his father as he focused on getting angry and focused on taking them down. The two see Sledge being tossed in midair and landing by their feet, they helped him up where they saw Singe walking over with Vidor and the other Viltrumite.
"It seems Thula's blade is able to cut through your skin kid. Wonder what mine will do if it comes to your skin?"
He spoke in an arrogant tone of how he was curious to hurt the boy. Nolan and Sledge stood firmly by Mark to make sure they'd handle the two while Mark focused all of his attention on Thula. The two teams charged at each other starting a second fight as each of the battles lead to them either getting bones broken, teeth knocked out and all sorts of injuries given across the body. Just as Mark and Sledge were handling their fights, Nolan was able to get the advantage over Vidor as he was stomping his head onto the ground.
"Do you still believe I'm weak? Do you regret harming my family?!"
Questioning Vidor further to the point where he stomps which it left Vidor unable to move. Looking over to seeing Thula having the advantage over Mark, he rushed in to stop her as he punches her jaw half wide which left her to collapse to the ground in an unconscious state. Looking over to see if Mark was still breathing, he didn't see Lucan coming from behind and taking him down with one blow. Doing his best to hold his intestines in his stomach, he looked over to notice the boy still alive.
"It seems, your capable of surviving us. Interesting."
Lucan stating to him before passing out due to the lack of blood he was losing from his stomach. The only two that were left was Sledge and Singe as the two continued to stand and see if one of them would pass out.
"Looks like this new environment has changed you Sledge. Guess it makes the trip coming here worthwhile, seeing at how the boss will be fascinated in seeing you again."
Singe informing Sledge of his boss being here which left the hunter to let out one last battle cry to try and take him down. Only for the alien to pull out a flintlock from his side and shoot Sledge directly into his forehead that sent him to the ground. With him being the last one standing and hearing the sound of Vidor trying to get up from his injury, he saw Singe walking over with his sword pressed at his neck.
"Since I had to hook up with you and Thula. All you talked about was how Nolan was weak and disgraced your people, where you couldn't even survive him. But like the old saying goes, 'Survival of the fittest'."
Announcing to him before cutting Vidor's head off with one slice ending the Viltrumite's life. Rubbing his head after the long fight and having using half of his power for the mission, he contacts the Viltrumites to bring in a ship so they could bring in Nolan and Sledge at the same time. As well to get Lucan and Thula somewhere to get patched up despite the gruesome injuries they had received.
Later-Night Time
Several hours had passed after the battle had ended and Mark had begun to slowly wake up from his injuries. Unable to get up, he could only see what looked like a Viltrum ship landing in front of him along his father being placed in a stretcher along with Sledge at the same time. Before he could call out to his dad, he noticed a shadow hovering over him as it was another Viltrumite. This one was different as he had a robotic right eye that was aimed at him.
"Good, your alive. It gives me time to speak, and for you to listen."
He explained to him as the man grabbed Mark by the collar and sets him up against a rock for him to breath better. While he still couldn't move his body, the boy had no choice but to listen to him since it be impossible to withstand another fight in his current state.
"My name is General Kregg. You've survived your first true battle in proving yourself worthy of your Viltrumite heritage. Your father will be executed and the bounty hunter will be returned to his employer. You will return to Earth and will assume his mission and prepare the planet for our rule."
The general informed Mark of what was going to happen to the others while being given Nolan's mission in preparing the earth for their arrival. Struggling to reject the offer, Kregg only watched in effort to see how Mark would try to attack him. Only to fail and stay in the same spot where Kregg had placed him at.
"I know this may not appeal to you, given your sympathies, so I'll put it like this. You can kill a few humans to convince them to capitulate, or we will kill millions if we arrive to find you or your planet still defiant against us. And unlike your father, we do not change our minds. Good luck on your mission."
Offering him hope that he'd handle things unlike his father had done and warned about how the Viltrumites would not change their minds in taking the Earth for themselves. Taking his leave into the ship and flying off with his prisoners, Mark could only watch how his father and Sledge were taken by the Viltrumites to face whatever punishment they had in store for them. Leaving him wounded and possibly unable to comprehend what he would have to tell the others back home about what happened, more or less his mother about learning about his new sibling. The only thing that Mark could do was hope that everyone back home could get stronger before the arrival of the Viltrumites because he would need an army if there was a chance to survive their arrival.
