Late at night, two gigantic villains were fighting each other. Police tried to control it, but to no avail.
Suddenly, Nejire appeared out of nowhere and attacked the villains, "Full charge, output level 30. Spiraling Surge. Nejire Wave!"
Her attack hit both of the giant villains and knocked them to the ground. Nejire floated over to them, "Hey now, why are you two fighting? Is it because you two have the same Quirk? That's weird." She then looked behind her, "Get ready! You're up!"
Ochaco and Tsuyu were behind her, Ochaco using her Quirk to float multiple boulders and Tsuyu was on one of them. Ochaco shouted, "Ultimate…."
"Move!" Tsuyu finished.
Ochaco and Tsuyu launched their attack, "Meteor Fafrotskies!"
The attack worked and the two villains were down.
As the police handled the arrest of the two villains, Nejire walked over to Ochaco and Tsuyu, "Wow, you two! That was awesome! You didn't look nervous at all!"
Ochaco sighed, "I'm just glad we pulled it off."
Tsuyu added, "Ribbit, ribbit. I was calmer than I thought I'd be."
The hero that the three girls had their work study with, Ryukyu, said, "Nejire would never have recommended you if you couldn't get the job done. And Nejire, you've been working on your attack timing. It's much better."
Nejire grinned, "Well, after I got my butt handed to me by that ghost kid from their class, I knew I had to work on my attacks."
Ochaco and Tsuyu bowed to Ryukyu, "Thank you so much for agreeing to take us on!"
Ryukyu smiled, "My pleasure."
Nejire chuckled, "Heh, good thing. You couldn't work for the same heroes you interned with. Apparently first years can only go to agencies that have good work study track records. Crazy, huh?"
Ryukyu said, "Students or not, you've already proved yourselves to be valuable assets. We may even have a new role for you in a new case that's come up."
Ochaco asked, "Really? What case?"
Ryukyu explained, "Nighteye, All Might's former sidekick, has issued a request to team up."
Ochaco realized, "Nighteye Agency's where Deku and Danny went for their work study."
Nejire interrupted, "Oh, sidebar! Teaming up is when two or more hero agencies work together. Sorry, was that obvious?"
Tsuyu asked, "What case does he want us to team up on?"
Ryukyu answered, "The investigation and takedown of the yakuza group, Shie Hassaikai. Given the League of Villains' possible involvement, it's a big job."
Speaking of, Shigaraki was meeting up with Chisaki. He sighed, "Are all yakuza strongholds like this?"
Chisaki answered, "We don't know who might be watching us or from where, and not all of our guests have the best intentions. So we have a number of routes leading here, an underground reception room where we can be reasonably sure of our privacy."
Mimic spoke up, "You ever wonder how we survived for so long? It's because of little details like that! Anyway, down to business. Did you really mean what you said on the phone the other day? That you'll join us under the right conditions?"
Shigaraki replied, "Don't start celebrating just yet. You guys want to capitalize on our reputation. We want to increase our strength. Our needs happen to coincide for the moment. Now, we won't be putting ourselves "under" you. We'll still be calling our own shots. Got it? Either it's a joint partnership, or I walk out the door."
Chisaki asked, "So those are the conditions?"
Shigaraki then said, "One more thing. That grand plan you mentioned. I want to know the details. It's a reasonable request. I need to decide whether it's worth lending you our name. You see…"
He reached into his coat pocket, but the henchman behind him, Kurono, pulled a gun on him, "Hands where I can see them. Stop acting like you're in charge here."
Mimic also jumped into action as a large arm reached out of his costume and grabbed onto Shigaraki's hand, "Yeah, who the hell do you think you are, you little punk?"
Shigaraki growled, "Who do you think you are? One of your disposable thugs against our Hikiishi. The scales are far from even. And let's not forget Compress's arm. We expect concessions in return for what we lost."
Chisaki sighed, "Kurono, Mimic, stand down. He came all this way to make his offer. The least we can do is hear the guy out. By all means, continue."
Kurono and Mimic backed away. Shigaraki said, "Like I said before your friends got jumpy, I want details. We can start with this." He held out a red bullet with a small needle at the end, the same one that hit Compress. "It's part of the plan, right? A strange thing happened to Compress after he was shot with this. He couldn't use his Quirk for a while. So I'd like to know what this is, and what you're planning to do with it. Tell me."
Chisaki replied, "I'll break the natural order of things. They say All For One ruled by stealing other people's Quirks. I've taken his method and fine-tuned it a little. I've already begun spreading my roots across this country. Little by little. Piece by piece, we're laying the groundwork for what's to come."
In the Ghost Zone, Phantom made his way to Clockwork's tower. He needed the time ghost's help to make a tracker to help track Eri since he gave her one of Clockwork's necklaces. Plus, he had some questions to ask the old ghost.
Clockwork heard Phantom enter, "I knew you were coming. As I know everything."
Phantom replied, "Then you know what I need to ask you. I need your help making a tracker."
Clockwork nodded, "Yes, you left one of my medallions with Eri, the girl with a very interesting Quirk."
Phantom asked, "Can you tell me what that Quirk is?"
Clockwork answered, "Her Quirk is known as Rewind, she has the power to turn back time on a single person."
Phantom remembered, "She told me that she wiped her father from existence. So she used her Quirk on her dad to erase him?"
Clockwork nodded, "Indeed. Although she did it by accident. Her Quirk is very powerful. In the wrong hands, it will cause catastrophe."
Phantom realized, "Chisaki must be experimenting on her using her blood, as it holds her Quirk. That man is a monster."
Clockwork nodded, "Indeed he is. You must be careful around him, as well as her. If she uses her Quirk on you, she could erase your ghost half."
Phantom cringed, "That would not be good."
Clockwork continued, "And be wary of Chisaki, also known as Overhaul. His Quirk is very dangerous. He could bring doom to you as well."
Phantom sighed, "And you won't tell me what will happen if I cross paths with him."
Clockwork said, "No, but you will face him. And soon. You made a promise to Eri, didn't you? You must be prepared at all costs."
Phantom pulled out the ring from under his costume, "That reminds me. I don't feel like I'm any closer to being able to wear this without passing out. Am I ever going to be ready?"
Clockwork nodded, "You will. The ring will tell you when the time is right. It could be sooner. It could be later."
Phantom sighed, "And you won't tell me when that is."
Clockwork smiled, "No, I will not. You must learn that for yourself." He then handed Phantom a tracker. "Here, this should help you track the girl. But you must return that medallion soon. Understand?"
Phantom nodded, "Yes, sir. And thank you for the tracker."
Clockwork then said, "Now, our time together has passed. Fright Knight is looking for you."
Phantom sighed, "Great. More training."
Back in the real world, Kirishima was starting his work study with Fat Gum. Amajiki was also Fat Gum's work study student, since Kirishima found that out and begged him to contact Fat Gum.
The three were patrolling the streets at night. Fat Gum was eating while talking, "We've got idiots fighting non-stop on the streets these days. Can't eat enough to keep up. Anyway, the agencies around here have been wanting a close-combat type. You're just what the doctor ordered, Red Riot."
Kirishima replied, "I promise I'll do my best. Fourth Kind doesn't accept work study students, so I really appreciate you taking me on."
Amajiki sighed, "If only Mirio'd been around. Man, your persistence was terrifying."
Fat Gum said, "We're gonna work on those delicate nerves of yours, Tamaki, and then you'll be worth your weight in gold."
Amajiki groaned, "Your expectations only drag me deeper into despair. It's always like this! I swear, the man scouted me just so he'd have someone to torment. I wanna go home!"
Kirishima said, "Maybe he's trying to encourage you; that's what a mentor's supposed to do, right?"
Amajiki sighed, "I'm not like you or Mirio. Positivity's not my strong suit."
Kirishima replied, "Hey, man, I know how it is. Sometimes when things get crazy, I feel useless, too. There's a gap between me and my classmates that's only getting wider. Especially with Fenton, he's in his own league. But I'm doing my best to close that gap so I can fight alongside them!"
Amajiki retorted, "That right there? That's called positivity, first year."
Suddenly they heard people shouting for help. Several men from a nearby yakuza were running away from a robbery.
Fat Gum got in front of them, "Not so fast!" His big body stopped them right in their tracks. He pulled them close and hugged them tight. "Mr. Fat's got a little hug for ya."
One guy got loose thanks to his Quirk.
Fat Gum shouted, "Lost one. Looks like he's got the same Quirk as Edge."
Amajiki created tentacles from his fingers and grabbed onto the guy, who shouted profanity at the hero in training. He sighed, "That was just cruel."
Kirishima shouted, "The guy's a dirtbag loser! Don't let him get to you!"
Amajiki then punched the guy several times with his hand that was shaped like a clam. The guy groaned, "I'm so confused. What are you?"
Amajiki replied, "Clams are good for offense or defense. They're very handy. I try to incorporate them into my diet every day." He then muttered, "Was that OK? It felt terrible."
Kirishima replied, "Are you kidding? You're so fast, and you've got great control of your Quirk!"
Fat Gum handed the men he had to the police, "Yeah, our Suneater's got some serious talent. His mental game needs work. But he's as strong as a pro. Right?"
But suddenly one of the goons that was hiding in the crowd shot his gun right at Amajiki, hitting the hero in training. But instead of a regular bullet, it was one of the special bullets that Overhaul made.
Kirishima rushed over, "Are you OK?"
Fat Gum shouted, "Both of you! Get down, now!
The man fired another shot right at Kirishima, but he activated his Quirk and the bullet bounced off of him.
The gun wielding criminal groaned, "It bounced off? Defective piece of junk!"
Kirishima punched his fist, "That guy's mine!"
Amajiki said, "I figured it would hurt more."
Kirishima replied, "Suneater! You're all right? That's great!"
The criminal shouted at people around him, "Move! Get out of my way!"
He ran away, but Kirishima shouted, "On it!" He ran off after the criminal.
Amajiki tried to use his Quirk, but nothing happened.
"Get back here!" Kirishima shouted.
Fat Gum shouted, "Don't go running off! That's just asking for trouble!" He turned to Amajiki, "You good? I'm going after him. Other heroes will be here soon. Fill them in."
Amajiki replied, "I'm not hurt! But my Quirk won't activate!"
Fat Gum asked, "Is Eraser nearby or something?
The criminal started running through an alley, "Leave me alone! Stop chasing me!"
Kirishima was right on his tail, "I will if you stop running! Come on. You should at least save your buddies, shouldn't you?"
"That's what you're mad about?" The criminal asked.
Kirishima replied, "You shot someone then ran off to save your own skin. Not much of a man, are you?"
The criminal stopped as he had nowhere to go. Kirishima shouted, "It's a dead end! Which means you're mine!"
The criminal turned toward Kirishima, "Get away from me!" Metal blades appeared on his arm and he tried to hit Kirishima.
But Kirishima activated his Quirk to block the blades, then countered, "Red Counter!" The criminal flew several feet away. "That was nothing. Now come quietly, or it's gonna get a lot worse." He then heard whimpering. "Wait. You're crying."
The criminal groaned, "It's not fair. You know what my Quirk does? Pops out blades a whopping ten centimeters long like a bunch of dinky box cutters. Of course I wanna save my bros, you jerk. But I'm scared. At least I was brave enough to shoot, though!"
Kirishima retorted, "Shut up! If you're gonna whine and cry about getting caught, then you shouldn't be committing crimes in the first place. Come on, up you go."
He helped the criminal up, who said, "I wanted to get stronger. I thought if I hung out with strong guys, I could get strong, too."
Kirishima replied, "Look, I understand how you feel, but…."
The criminal interrupted, "If I just stuck with my bros, I would have a shot at real power. You don't understand anything, hero. Don't act like you do!" He slipped a drug out of his sleeve and injected himself with it, and he started to scream in pain.
Kirishima shouted, "Hold on! What did you give yourself? Hey! Are you OK?"
Suddenly multiple large, long blades erupted from the criminal's body.
Kirishima activated his Quirk so he wouldn't get hurt, "What did you do? Where'd all those blades come from?"
He realized that the criminal injected himself with a drug that boosts his Quirk. He turned to the bystanders behind him, "Everyone! Get somewhere where the blades can't get to you! Hurry!"
The criminal's blades became longer and Kirishima tried to block them, but they were sharper than his Quirk, causing the blades to cut him.
The criminal mocked, "That's what you get for being cocky, hero. You talk all big about manliness, but my boys say the age of you so-called good guys is crashing down in flames. That means the world will belong to people like me who live in the shadows! Oh, man, I'm on such a freaking high right now. I think I might take your advice and go bust up some heroes to save my friends."
He sent more blades at Kirishima, who was internally freaking out. He remembered All Might's advice to him, about being a bulldozer. And he remembered something Bakugo told him recently. That just standing up means you are strong. He then hardened as much as he could, so that he was an indestructible wall. Red Riot Unbreakable.
His body took the blades and snapped all of them. He knew he only had a 30-40 second window to hold this form, so he made the most of it. He charged at the criminal, "Here I come!"
The criminal concentrated the blades right towards Kirishima, but he punched his way through, like a bulldozer. He then landed his ultimate move, Red Gauntlet, onto the criminal, knocking him out cold.
The bystanders behind him were shocked and amazed at the young hero. Kirishima's body returned to normal.
The criminal suddenly woke up and pushed blades out of his back and propelled past Kirishima.
But then Fat Gum showed up, "Sorry I'm late to the party!" The criminal tried to attack, but Fat Gum just pulled the criminal into his body as the blades couldn't hurt him. "When you're fighting a villain, they win by killing you, beating you to the ground, or running away. But the only way we win is by taking them in with no casualties. Remember this in the future, Red Riot. The key is how fast you can make the villain lose the will to fight."
The criminal finally passed out.
Kirishima ran over, "Thanks for your help!"
One of the bystanders said, "And thank you, young man. You were incredible back there. The way you kept his blades from hitting all of us was insane! You saved our lives!"
Fat Gum smiled, "Talk about making a big splash. That's a better reception than I got for my debut. Solid work out there. You'll be an amazing hero someday. I'm sure of it!"
Kirishima smiled back, "Thanks, sir!"
The bystander asked, "Young man, what's your hero name?"
Kirishima replied, "I'm Red Riot!"
The bystander said, "Well you can bet that's a name I won't be forgetting."
Kirishima bowed, "Thank you."
Fat Gum and Kirishima took the criminal to the police, where Amajiki was waiting. He clammed up when the other criminals started to mock him when questions were being asked. Kirishima told them what happened.
Fat Gum said, "His Quirk powered up, huh? Power-boosting drugs are banned in Japan. It didn't last long, so it was probably a black market version. The ones from the US work at least an hour."
Kirishima was impressed, "Wow, you know a lot about this!"
Fat Gum nodded, "Yeah, I used to work with the cops to catch drug smugglers back in the day."
Suddenly a police officer ran up, "Fat! I've got some info about that gun they had. It got smashed up in the chaos, but it definitely wasn't a normal weapon. I'll keep investigating and see what else I can find."
Fat Gum replied, "Interesting. Thanks for letting me know."
Kirishima turned to Amajiki, "So, how are you holding up?"
"Awful," Amajiki replied,
Kirishima growled, "To take your Quirk like that. It's a total nightmare for a hero."
Amajiki replied, "That's not all. You protected me back there. You're just like Mirio. Both of you shine so brightly, like the sun."
Kirishima argued, "You're the same way! I wouldn't even be here if you hadn't gotten me this work study."
Amajiki sighed, "There you go again. So much positivity."
Fat Gum turned to the two boys, "We'll stop by the agency, then head to the hospital so you two can get checked out. There are a couple of things I wanna look into as well." The two boys nodded.
Over at the UA dorms, Izuku was sitting in the common area, thinking to himself. He had a lot on his mind lately. The truth between All Might and Sir Nighteye, the fact that Nighteye wanted Mirio to inherit One For All, and of course, Eri. Her cries for help were still ringing in his ears.
Danny came in through the front door. He noticed Izuku sitting by himself. "Hey, dude, you OK?"
Izuku was startled to see Danny standing there, "Yeah, I'm OK. Where have you been?"
Danny answered, "I was making the tracer to help track Eri."
Izuku smiled, "That's great! That will help us save her from Overhaul."
Danny nodded, "Indeed. But knowing Sir Nighteye, he's not going to want us to jump into action right away."
Danny bowed his head low, causing the ring on his necklace to slide out from under his shirt.
Izuku noticed, "That's an interesting ring. Where did you get it?"
Danny grabbed the ring, "It was…a gift from someone back home."
Izuku asked, "Why are you wearing it on a chain instead of on your hand?"
Danny looked down at it, "Because…..it doesn't feel right. Not yet, anyway. Now, I'm heading to bed. You should, too."
Danny left, but Izuku didn't follow him. The green haired teen had another thing on his mind now. He's been suspicious of Danny for some time now. He remembered that when they were both in the hospital after the camp incident, he remembered hearing strange voices while he was out of it, and they said some strange things. Then that ring that Danny now wears seems like it has some sort of aura about it. Izuku doesn't know how he can feel it, but he can. And Danny's meetings with All Might are starting to become secretive as well. Like All Might is hiding something about Danny from him. Izuku knew he wasn't going to sleep well tonight.
Three days later, Class 1-A were sitting in their homeroom. Izuku was trying to stay awake, but his lack of sleep was affecting him.
Kaminari walked up to Kirishima, "Holy crap, Kirishima! Take a look at this!" He held up his phone to show a news report about Kirishima. "Your hero name's all over the news sites today, it's freaking crazy!"
Bakugo growled as he was getting jealous.
Mina pulled out her phone, "And he's not the only one! Look, check out Tsu and Uraraka!"
Ochaco saw the news report, "Wow. I can't believe this is real!"
Tsuyu asked, "When did they even snap that picture?"
Mina added, "Hey, you know what? You might already have your own fan club like Mt. Lady does!"
Toru shouted, "I'm so jealous!"
Jiro was looking at a news report on her phone, "And check this! "What heroes in training! They're cute. They're efficient. But even more importantly, they manage to get the job done." Wow."
Bakugo was getting more angry.
Tenya said, "You have provisional licenses now, and you're seen as heroes. I must thank you for your service. But a student's top priority is academics! Hit those books!"
Danny walked over, "Don't worry, Tenya. All of us in work studies are keeping up with our school work."
Kaminari asked Kirishima, "Wait, didn't you tell us you've been having trouble with your assignments lately?"
Kirishima answered, "The teachers said that they'd set up some extra lessons for me."
Sero said, "Maybe I should have checked into those. I am totally slipping."
Momo walked over, "Remember, we all learn at our own pace."
Kaminari chuckled, "Yeah, who cares, right?"
Izuku was still having his internal dilemma about All Might, Sir Nighteye, and Danny. But Eri's cries for help were still ringing in his head. He wanted to rescue her no matter what.
Danny also wanted to rescue Eri as well. His ghostly nature was starting to drive him crazy.
