The Broken Boosted Gear
By Try Another Time
Raynare was calmly humming while she continued to cook. It had been a long night for everyone and the rest of the inhabitants of the house were calmly sleeping. Even Asia who had been sleeping for far longer had yet to wake up.
Raynare enjoys the silence that this situation is offering to her. Not needing to worry about the other people around her, allows her to think more clearly and enjoy her books in complete peace.
But like always, life had other plans for her.
A magic circle appears next to her face.
"Dammit, who is the asshole that wants to interrupt my alone time?" Raynare thinks before she answers the call. "Raynare speaking, who's this?"
"It is me, Shemhazai"
"Shemhazai-sama, how are you doing? I don't have all the details but Welsh-sama and the others said that the problem has been taken care of."
"We did. We eliminate almost all enemies. Very few gave up and surrendered themselves. Our troops were unharmed so we can say that it was a successful mission."
"That sounds great. So why are you calling me?"
"I wanted to talk to you about his power."
"What about it? We already know that he is one of the strongest beings around."
"Raynare, he pierced all the floors of the underworld with one attack."
"…. Give me a second. I need to do some math." Raynare grows quiet. As a member of the research team of Azazel, she was one of the smartest fallen angels around. Things such as these were part of her every day and her curiosity, knowledge, and expertise were almost unmatched by the rest.
Raynare starts to think and formulate several formulas to calculate the strength needed to pierce through the floors of the underworld. Her mind is running wild as she tries to come up with a conclusion. In the end, the math didn't add up. Not even all of her knowledge could help her to come up with a way to explain this whole situation.
"Mother of all shits. Are you sure about this?" Raynare asks.
"I am. He pierced the floors of the underworld. I saw the hole personally. The area was still hot after the attack was done. We already know that his flames don't follow any scientific or magic rules. No need for oxygen, not affected by water or cold, capable of eating anything regardless of any type of defense or material. Raynare, I'm asking you to keep a close eye on him and make sure that he doesn't go out of control. That amount of power is insane and everyone knows that. You're there to prevent a tragedy just like Gabriel is. He is our ally but we want to make sure that he is not going to attack the human world or another faction because of his emotions. Be the voice of reason for him and prevent the worst kind of scenario. We want to make sure he doesn't go nuclear." Shemhazai says. He wanted to make sure that Raynare didn't forget her mission.
Raynare sighs. "I know. Heaven wouldn't send Gabriel unless they feared the worst possible outcome. The devils have Tiamat, angels have Gabriel and I'm representing Grigori. We're the ones that need to keep an eye on his activities and voice our concerns to prevent chaos. Yet, I believe that he is going to be fine. I don't feel the same rudeness and hot-headedness that he showed back in the day. Maybe it is thanks to his old age, maybe it is due to the interactions with the previous boosted gear hosts, or maybe it is due to the child with whom he is fusing himself but Ddraig is not the same. He seems to enjoy this peaceful life and age. I doubt that he would go out of his way to start a conflict on his own."
Shemhazai's tone stays calm but shows concern. "I want to believe that as well but we can't be 100% sure about it. Just keep your eyes open and do what's necessary to stop him. He is our ally but he is also an element we can't control. He is an unpredictable being. Take care of yourself and let us know if anything happens."
Thus ends the call leaving Raynare with the same task that Azazel had given to her. She wasn't only a member of this unusual group; she was an agent who should keep an eye on the Welsh Dragon and prevent chaos or any kind of problems for Grigori. "Just another day in my life. I hope that I don't ever need to fight you ever again, Welsh-sama. You know why I'm here after all."
Her eyes shift back into the food in front of her and the book she was still reading. "Learning how to cook wasn't a bad thing in the end."
Thus continues a quiet morning for Raynare.
An hour later.
Issei and the rest of the inhabitants started to wake up before starting their daily routines. It was around 1 pm so breakfast was long gone.
"Hi, Raynare," Kuroka said as she entered the kitchen. "What do we have for today?"
"German Potato Dumplings, Finnish Salmon and Dill Pie, and Shrimp Mozambique. All of you came back really late and I'm sure that your stomachs are practically empty." Raynare smiles as she turns around.
"Sound great." Kuroka's stomach growls.
The other members of the group start to appear one after the other. Asia comes next before being followed by Rael, Tiamat, and finally Issei.
"Good to see that everyone is up and ready to eat my food. Take a seat." Raynare watches as everyone takes a seat at the dining table.
"All of you left," Asia says.
"Sorry Asia. It was a conflict in which you wouldn't be able to participate. We were flying through the whole ordeal and they were ready to kill any enemy on their way." Issei replies.
"But what if someone got injured?" Asia asks.
"We were fine and that nobody got injured. Asia, we do understand your concern but there's always the next time. Don't feel left out but if you do want to join us, let me train you?" Rael offers.
"Train her? Rael, she's a child." Kuroka argues.
"A child with potential just like your younger sister. The earlier we start with her training, the stronger she can become. What do you say, Asia?" Rael asks.
Asia looks at the other members of her group.
"You're a child and there's no need for you to fight but I won't stop you," Kuroka says.
"The path is going to be hard, especially for you. It will take time before you feel capable of protecting yourself but you won't regret it in the end. Just remember to balance your training with your normal life. Not everything is fighting." Tiamat recommends.
"It's all up to you, Asia. No choice is bad. Living a normal human life, the life of a supernatural being, or a mix of both. No choice is perfect or completely bad." Raynare explains. "The humans that are involved with Grigori usually live a mix of both. Tobio Ikuse is the team leader of the Slash/Dog Team and is the wielder of one of the Longinus. He is in high school at the moment but he continues to participate in missions around the world. He is only 17 but he is one of the strongest humans around. It's not impossible for you to do the same, Asia."
Asia's eyes turn and focus on Issei. The Welsh Dragon is sitting in silence until he gives his own opinion. "I offered my help to you but I admit that training you is necessary. Is up to you if you start now or later on. Choose your own path, Asia."
The girl smiles and turns to Rael. "If you're fine with me as a student I will follow your teachings to become stronger."
"It would be my pleasure. I will make sure you're stronger than most exorcists that have been trained by the church." Rael claims.
"Get ready Asia. Your training won't be an easy one." Raynare says. She knew that Gabriel wasn't the best of teachers and although her intentions were the best ones, her methods were some of the hardest ones.
"Well, let's eat. We can worry about training and other things at another time." Issei says.
Everyone nods and they begin to enjoy the food.
After lunch.
The group decides to use the pool of the building. The girls jump in one after the other but Issei sits on the side of the pool while holding the egg in which Tosca is still changing into a dragon.
"Can you hear my voice? You don't know me and I don't know about your past but I want you to know that once you come out you will find a different place. Isaiah is alive and many of the other kids are as well. A few of the kids died during that day but almost all of those that hurt all of the kids are dead. Tosca, my blood runs through your body right now and I want to make sure that you can enjoy a life in which you can be happy. I will be your father and I will offer you a home in which you can feel safe. The world can be cruel but there are things for which you have to come back. That boy is waiting for you so don't keep him waiting." Issei says.
The egg shakes a bit as a sign that is reacting to his voice and presence.
Issei smiles. "Good. Hold unto your hopes, memories, and desires. Tosca you're no longer human but you're still alive. You are a dragon just like me. Although you're not human, what matters is the fact that you're alive. Don't fear what you have become and embrace the path that is ahead of you. As a child with my blood, I will be there for you from now and for the rest of eternity."
The egg shakes once more. The egg is hot as the lava of a volcano.
Issei smiles. "What kind of powers will you develop? I'm going to watch you grow and make sure you never become a monster such as my past self. There will never be another red dragon emperor."
The girls watch from the pool as Issei takes care of the egg. He was showing real care towards the girl inside the egg.
"So, he doesn't want another one like himself?" Kuroka asks as she floats in the water. Her two-piece black bikini showed her best attributes although she was still growing.
"Us dragons hold different titles. Our primary ones are given to us by Great Red who acts as our grandpa and mentor. The Welsh Dragon, the Red Heavenly Dragon, and the Two-Headed Red Dragon of Chaos are the ones that he has gained from Great Red. All the other ones were given to him by gods and other supernatural beings. The Red Dragon Emperor was given to him close to the end of his first life and it continued alongside the boosted gear users. His time trapped within the boosted gear is one filled with happy and dark memories. Not all the users were great people, some killed many innocents, some conquered lands, some were monsters that were driven mad by him and the power. He doesn't want another dragon like that." Tiamat explains while holding Asia on her shoulders. Her exotic aquamarine two-piece bikini was more revealing and any man would have fallen for her after seeing her attractive body.
"But he is not a sacred gear user," Asia says. Her schoolgirl swimsuit was perfect for her lack of any attractive assets.
Rael nods. "Yes, he is no longer just a human with a small grasp of the true power of a dragon. He is now the whole unchained dragon. His power will attract those that fear that power, those that want to challenge him, and those that will try to ask him to join them for the sake of using that power. Kokabiel was the first one but not the last." The seraph was wearing a single-piece white bikini that was improving her impressive appeal.
"Power attracts attention. How many enemies will come to this place in search of him? 100? 1000? We will have to wait and be ready for the fights to come." Raynare looks at the sealing. "We will need to grow stronger if we want to be of any help to him." Her two-piece purple bikini was a really risky one and any man would have fallen unconscious in a pool of his own blood after seeing her curves.
The girls look at the boy and he offers them a calm smile.
"That face will surely attract the attention of other things. I'm not talking about enemies. Tiamat, how many brides can a male dragon have?" Kuroka asks while trying to hide her blush.
Tiamat thinks for some time. "I don't think there's a limit but I can tell you that we're going to see many even if I don't want that to happen. Call it fate or pure luck but it has begun. Let's just hope that the ones that end up developing interest in him are not insanely possessive. I will put anyone that tries to take him away from me in their place." Tiamat shows a creepy smile.
"Yes, you're already possessive." Kuroka thinks.
"Your feelings for him are truly amazing, Tiamat. Maybe just a bit too extreme." Rael argues.
Tiamat is about to say something but is interrupted by the appearance of a small magic circle.
"Hello, Tiamat." The voice of the former dragon king and current ultimate class devil, Tannin is heard.
"Tannin. How are you? Are your wives treating you well?" Tiamat replies after hearing the voice of her old acquaintance.
"Well, right now I need your help. Can you allow me to hide in your house for a few hours? I need to hide until the situation calms down." The dragon sounds anxious and pretty scared.
Tiamat smiles after thinking about the possible reason for his anxious tone. "Sure, come and visit. My dearest will be happy to meet you."
"Thanks, I will go alongside Bova and Yukime." Tannin says before he cuts communication.
"Tannin? Who's that?" Asia asks.
"The former dragon king. The blaze meteor dragon. The living example of what awaits him." Tiamat points her finger towards Issei. "Dear, be ready to meet your old acquaintance."
Issei sighs. "Let's meet him and see how much he has changed since the last time we saw each other."
A few minutes afterward.
His tanned skin was filled with superficial injuries. His face was red and inflamed after receiving many slaps. His purple hair was practically frozen after receiving an ice attack. Tannin, the former dragon king, was a mess. His grey suit was practically in shambles as well.
His youngest son, Bova, who looks like a younger version of Tannin, was covering his face in shame. He was sitting down on the right side of his father. He was wearing some jeans and a black jacket. He looks like a 16-year-old boy but he is much older. "I can't believe that we were forced to run away."
Yukime was the youngest daughter. She has a veil that covers her face and says nothing while she's sitting on the seat on her father's left side. She has white skin like snow. Light purple hair and her hands had a few draconic scales. Her nails are sharp like the claws of a dragon due to the genes of her father. There was also a cold aura around her as well. She was wearing a white kimono with blue flowers. She was at least 14 years old when it came to her appearance.
Most of the group was trying to figure out how the great Tannin ended up this way. They were sitting right in front of the trio.
Tiamat was just laughing like an insane lady. "Hahahahahahahaha. I can't believe it. Who was it? The first wife or one of the other ones?"
Tannin lowers his head. "All of them."
"What did you do? Did you forget the birthday of one of them?" Tiamat asks.
"… I did…" Tannin admits.
Tiamat continues to laugh. "I can't." Tiamat gets closer to Issei. "Please learn from him what not to do." She then continues to laugh.
The rest of the group starts to connect the pieces. The realization hits Kuroka like a truck. She then joins Tiamat and starts to laugh uncontrollably.
"Issei! Is this your future?" Kuroka asks.
The Welsh Dragon feels sorry for his fellow dragon. "Tannin, it has been a long time."
"It truly has been. If I remember well, we last met around 1400 years ago when one of the boosted gear wielders was training to become the greatest weapon master and martial artist. What was her name?" Tannin asks. He appreciates the fact that Ddraig is ignoring his appearance.
"Lyn. She did complete the formless style but she never taught it to anyone at least when she was alive. I'm still learning it through the process of reliving her memories. But let's talk about the present. Are these your son and daughter?" Issei asks.
"Yes. This is Bova, my youngest boy, and Yukime, my youngest daughter. I brought them with me because Bova is in trouble like me and Yukime is my only ally in moments like this one. There's also the fact that it is her mother's birthday, the one that I forgot." Tannin admits.
"Nice to meet the both of you. I welcome all of you to our home. These are the members of my group, Asia, Kuroka, Raynare, Rael, and Tiamat." Issei presents the group.
Yukime nods while Bova starts to be rude.
"Is this really the Welsh Dragon? I expected something bigger and stronger. I can't believe this. The so-called red heavenly dragon is just a small boy. This small fly can't be stronger than my dad." Bova says.
Yukime lifts her right arm and creates a massive ice claw. She then smashes it into the head of her sibling. "I apologize for his rudeness." Her voice is beautiful but almost unhearable due to her low tone.
Bova is left unconscious after one hit. His body falls to the floor. Some blood even comes out from his head.
"Is ok. One question, are you a yuki-onna? Those ice powers are not common among dragons." Issei asks while ignoring the unconscious dragon on the floor.
"My mother, Shizue, is a Yuki-onna. I'm a mix between a dragon and a yuki-onna." Yukime answers. The girl smiles behind the veil. She appreciates the fact that he didn't mind the rudeness of her brother.
Issei looks at Tannin. "You truly have gone beyond my expectations, Tannin. You either have the greatest or the worst luck of all of us. A yuki-onna doesn't sound like the easiest of mates for us dragons. They are cold while we are hot but I guess that love can achieve the impossible. So, how's the family and the clan?"
The dragon grows more anxious after hearing the question. "22 wives, 45 children, and a whole clan that I have to take care of. My life is a mixture of happiness and pure madness. Sometimes I ask myself how it came to this. One day I was a single dragon beating challengers left and right, then the next I was surrounded by so many wives that I started to forget the concept of time since they don't age. Ddraig, I'm no longer capable of exiting my mountain without a reason. They control each of my movements. I'm happy but I'm also scared because if one of them is angry, every single one is angry at me. They have joined forces to beat me up. I, the great Tannin, have become a punching bag for them to do as they please." Tannin seems to have a small mental breakdown.
Yukime pads the head of her dad. "It's alright dad. They love you. You're just a little too careless. I told you before, be careful with what you do and say around them. We just need to find a gift for her and hope all of them can forgive you."
Tiamat and Kuroka continue to laugh even harder at his expense.
Issei sighs and continues the conversation with Tannin. "Why 45? Devils have a small birth rate."
"Dragons, even those that have been rebirthed into devils seemed to not be affected by that. Especially if your wives are not devils based on my own experience. Our bodies are made to spread our genes or that's what I want to believe. I had no problems with any of my wives when it came to pregnancies." Tannin tries to cool himself down. "Ddraig, can I still call you that since the voice doesn't match you at all?"
"Call me either way. Issei or Ddraig is alright." Issei replies.
"What are your plans for the future? You have a body now and I know about the alliance. By the way, did you really pierce the floors of the underworld with one attack?" Tannin asks.
"I did. I'm much stronger than before and I have greater control over my flames now. Regarding my plans… a normal life and my own faction. There's also my debt to Great Red that I need to pay back in the future. The alliance is also in the plans. Tiamat wants children and we both know I don't have a way out of that." Issei and Tannin look at Tiamat.
The dragoness stops laughing and smiles. "I love you, dear." The creepy smile she gives to them makes Tannin even more scared.
"You're dead Ddraig. You have carved your own tomb but I wish you the best of luck with her. Regarding that faction, what are you hoping to do? One doesn't create a nation just for the sake of saying they have one." Tannin asks.
Tiamat looks mad but ignores Tannin for a moment. She was interested in Issei's answer.
Issei stands up and walks towards a window. "A nation made for dragons, his descendants, and allies. A nest in which we can finally settle down. Not just a mountain but a whole nation in the underworld. I have the way in which to create that place." He points at the bracelet that Tiamat is wearing. "I asked Hephaestus for help and he created that item for me. It holds enough power to create that place. I killed many beings to obtain the materials for that bracelet. It's the closest thing to the powers of Demeter or other gods capable of terraforming a whole place."
"Demeter, like the goddess of agriculture from the Greek pantheon?" Rael asks.
"Exactly her. Hephaestus has created many weapons but his siblings and fellow gods are ignoring his true potential. He can create many things if he is given the time and materials. His talent for the creation of artifacts is almost unmatched by anyone else. He is not the most handsome and many fake legends have tainted his name but he is the one God from the Greek pantheon that I believe in. He is a good drinking partner as well." Issei admits.
Tiamat looks at her bracelet with even more appreciation. "So, we only need to find the perfect place for its usage?"
"We do. Is a one-time item. It will lose all that power after using it once. So, we need the perfect place for it." Issei says.
"A faction for dragons? And you will be the leader?" Tannin asks.
Issei shakes his head. "Tiamat is going to be the leader. Of all of us, she is the one with the most reasonable mind. She has been alive through all of this and is not viewed as an enemy by most pantheons. I can be more like a sub-leader and the muscle behind the whole operation but she is going to be the leader."
Tiamat looks at him. "Me? But- "
"I was killed and yet you have gained the friendship of someone like Ajuka and the respect of devils before I even showed up in the picture. Power is important but a reasonable mind is more crucial for a successful faction. I kill, I destroy but I'm not the greatest role model to follow. Bova said that he was expecting a big and strong dragon. That is what the Welsh Dragon is. You are strong but you're more reasonable than any of us, the first dragons. While Albion, Tannin, Vritra, Fafnir, and I were going around creating trouble you have been calm. Not starting many fights. No heists on pantheons like I did. No wars against pantheons. You're the one leader dragons should follow. I will support you and make sure you rule for as long as you feel like doing it." Issei says.
Tiamat is speechless.
Tannin just smiles. "He is actually in the right place. It does sound like a great idea if Tiamat is made into the main leader. Sign me in, Dragon King Tiamat."
The other girls look at Tiamat and nod in agreement.
"There you go, Tiamat. You're about to become the one leader of dragons if the plan works." Raynare says. "Grigori but for dragons. This is really unexpected, to say the least."
"Michael, Raphael, and Uriel are not going to believe this," Rael says.
"Have you been planning for this that long?" Kuroka asks while looking at Issei.
"Not all of it. A land for dragons, that has been in mind for a long time after meeting Tiamat before the age of man. I knew that the world wasn't for us. The gods were killing and moving their creations around. We were born in that world but it wasn't ours at all. Sirzechs, Ajuka, the alliance and the fact that Tiamat has been there since the moment I came out from the egg has been pushing me to change my plans around. When I came out of that egg, I didn't expect that she would just confess her feelings for me. She has been an unexpected element that has pushed me to change things around. I'm happy that she has been there for me since the beginning." Issei says with a smile.
"Ddraig you really don't sound like yourself. Are you sure that she hasn't used some kind of method to control your mind?" Tannin asks.
Yukime lifts her arm once more before smacking her father. "Stay quiet. This is an emotional moment."
Tannin holds his head but stays silent. "You are just like your mother. Why do you hit so hard?"
Tiamat starts to tear up. "You stupid hot-headed lizard. You can't just say things like that so easily."
"What do you expect me to do? Deny that I care about you. You're my first bride after all and I will try to make you happy." Issei's tone is calm and his face shows a sincere smile.
"Idiot," Tiamat says while sobbing.
"I know. Don't cry. I will do whatever is necessary to make sure that you're happy." Issei tries to calm her down.
Tiamat tackles him to the ground. "Idiot, stupid. Look at what you make me do. You just know what to say to make me lose control over my feelings."
Everyone watches the cute interaction between the couple.
"A true casanova. I see many more girls falling for you in the near future." Kuroka thinks.
"The complexity of relationships such as this. Anger, appreciation, interest in each other's well beings. I may be able to feel such emotions if I keep following him." Rael's mind thinks about what the future may look like for her.
Asia feels happy about being around Issei and the rest. "I hope to find someone in the future that will show such care for me as he does for her."
Raynare takes mental notes of the mentality of the Welsh Dragon. "A faction, a future, no grudges against the gods involved in his first death. Truly a different dragon. Our future looks brighter than before."
Tannin continues to scratch his head. "You're deep in my friend. I doubt that you can get out after saying things such as those. Your fate has been decided and just like me, you'll keep attracting them even if that's not your plan. I see a high chance that the rest of these girls will completely fall in love with you as well. You will also learn to care for them and without realizing it you won't be able to let them go." The former dragon king looks at his young daughter. "Yukime?"
His daughter looks at him. "Yes, father?"
He notices something weird through the veil. "Wait are you- "Before Tannin can say another word his daughter punches him in the gut.
"Shhh, keep quiet. A lady needs to keep a few secrets and old men such as yourself shouldn't reveal his own daughter's secrets." Her tone is low but her intent is stray to the point.
The fact that everyone is focusing on the couple helps her to hide her actions.
"Shit. What have I done? Ddraig run!" But Tannin was too late to stop it. Alarms sounded on his head as the memories of his own experiences with her mother came back to him. The chase, the violence, the knives, the blood, and the incredible determination of the woman that he met under a cold night in Hokkaido. "Fuck!"
The sight of the youngest daughter was placed in one man and like her mother, she wasn't going to back away.
"Mom, I have found my chosen mate. Strong and caring. Charming like no other. A man that cares about family and one that you will approve of when I show him to you. I will see you around much more regularly, D-A-R-L-I-N-G." Yukime smiles behind her veil. A beautiful face that hides the cruel determination of a dangerous frozen dragon.
*Joseph Joestar mandatory joke: Oh my god! Nooooooo!*
Several minutes afterward.
"Thanks for visiting, Tannin. I hope that you come back. Make sure to bring your family as well. I will be happy to meet your other sons and daughters." Issei says.
"I will think about it." Tannin says with a worried smile. He turns toward his daughter.
Yukime is lifting her brother over her shoulder. "We'll come back once mom and the rest talk about it. Daddy's agenda is packed so it may be impossible for him to come but my siblings and the rest of the family is another case. Right daddy?"
Tannin feels the cold glare of her daughter. His whole body shakes and he then feels the hands of his wife Shizue around his neck while holding a bloody knife. Like a judge from the land of the dead ready to take his life away. "Why did it have to be my own daughter? Why did it have to be you Ddraig? I'm so sorry for what I have done to you." Tannin nods while trying to hide his emotions.
Bova starts to wake up. "Why does my head hurt so much?"
Yukime creates another ice claw and sends him back to the land of dreams.
"Why did you do that?" Kuroka asks.
"Is better if he stays asleep until we're back home. He is a troublesome sibling with a bad attitude. He tries to stand up by being rude and overstepping his boundaries so the other siblings have to keep him in check like mom and the rest do with daddy. I appreciate your invitation and I hope that we see each other again. Thanks for everything." Yukime says in a cheerful tone.
"It was our pleasure. Please be sure to come around with your siblings next time." Tiamat says. Her instincts are telling her that something is very wrong.
"We will. See you later… darling." That last word is directed towards Issei in a very low tone.
Nobody hears the word but a chill runs down Issei's back for a moment. His instincts kick in and his eyes lock onto Yukime. He can't see her face due to the veil that covers her face but his entire body is telling him that she's dangerous. "Oh no. Stupid male syndrome, not her."
The trio departs and Issei's mind is on high alert after the meeting. Life was full of surprises and he had just met one of many awaiting him in the future.
*Notes from the author: Don't ask about how many are going to be on the harem. I will introduce characters as the story goes but it doesn't mean they will join the main cast right away nor will they become just another addition that has no value. Yes, we do get a sort of yandere-like character. Yukime is one of those characters that I created while thinking about Tannin and his massive family. As he said, his harem has been formed through the years and mostly thanks to trips around the different realms. Tannin met Shizue around 42 years ago while on a trip through Hokkaido and let's just say that it took almost a whole year for him to develop a healthy relationship with her. She is a full-on Yandere while her daughter is more flexible and less violent but still creepy as hell. We will learn more about her as the story advances. Regarding concerns about Cleria that some may have, she will be around as part of the main cast since she is the devil in charge of Kuoh Town. Send me messages regarding any other concerns surrounding the story. *
